Upgading Blazer to ICS? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am currently on a GB Blazer Rom (EL29). It's been a long time since I've flashed anything to it and I haven't done any ICS flashes at all. I would like to try out thr FF18 Blazer but I don't wanna screw anything up. I've been looking at the forums all day and I'm still a little confused. I also want to install the AGAT kernel since it seems to be the safest. If someone could please help me with the steps, or at least tell me if these are correct.
1. backup
2. flash EL26
3. Calkulin's Format All
4. flash Blazer
5. wipe cache???
6. flash AGAT???
Also any Modems or regular mods (like extended power) can be flashed at any time just wipe cache???
Thanx alot

Since i literally just updated to FF18 Blazer ICS... here's what i did.
1.Nandroid backup (just go to recovery and backup to SD card)
2. Calk's format all
3. Flash Blazer ICS rom
4. Flash Agats kernal
5. Fash Calks TW Launcher 5x4
6. Flash Extender Power Menu mod
Wallah!

Installing Gunslinger Kernal with Blazer Rom

I currently have my epic 4gt rooted with Blazer Rom installed and OC'd to 1.6 GHz with Tegrak. So If I wanted to install Gunslinger 1.4 all I would have to do is uninstall tegrak, then download the Zip file for the kernal. use calkulins format all and then install the zip?
This won't affect my ROM, and will I be able to reinstall all my apps through Titanium Backup? I just want to verify before I screw something up myself
I don't think you need to use calks format all if you're just flashing a kernel. I'm certain it will wipe your ROM in doing so. Here's instructions per the Gunslinger thread OP:
CWM-
-Make a backup in your current recovery
-Download zip from link below
-Place zip on sdcard
-Boot into recovery and install zip
-Let the phone boot back up fully
-Update profile and PRL (optional)
-Reboot
-Sit back and bask in the Rogue glory!
Yes I saw those instructions BUt I wasn't sure if installing the kernal would delete my Rom or mess with my settings. IS it possible for maybe someone to post my question in the Gunslinger Kernal thread for more clarificcation
flashing a kernel won't delete your rom. its a separate entity. kind of like flashing different modems.
just make a nandroid back up as usual before the flash and back up your apps in titanium back up just in case anything goes wrong... but you don't need to flash calks format all. That usually used when flashing between roms

[Q] Blazer Pro Problem

when i flashed the latest Blazer Pro my phone gets stuck at the samsung boot screen. I noticed that that download page said don't flash with hitman. The only El29 with CWM is offered with Rogue. Is that the reason? I used Calkulin's format, and i did all the wiping necessary. Is there any other way to get a regular CWM mod for EL29?

It should work with Rogue. That's how I flashed it.
I had that issue after I tried to install the 3.8 update(which you install on top of 3.7). If you still have recovery just flash to 3.7, it is very stable and the changes made to 3.8 don't make it that much different. just use the modified calkulins no data wipe, then flash 3.7. after you can just reflash hitman or gunslinger
I had the same problem going from 3.7 to 3.8. I used the modified calk no data format and it wouldn't boot, so i fully wiped, clean install 3.7, then just went straight to 3.8, no calk wipe at all. You do NOT want to use calk's format, even the no data one. It won't work.
Thanks to all of your comments I successfully flashed blazer. Much thanks

[Q] help with flashing Blazer 4.0

Hey all. today I decided to try the blazer 4.0 rom. Im currently on Senzation 2.3 . I followed the instructions completely but the phone got stuck on the galaxy logo screen after rebooting. It would not boot into recovery either. I had to go into download mode and use odin to get it working again. can someone please help me out? would it be an issue with the kernel? Im attaching a screen shot so hopefully it would help. Any kind of help, suggestions, flaming or trolling is much appreciated!!!
Make sure you follow the install instructions in Blazer's OP. My experience with fresh Blazer installs:
-Nandroid
-Wipe /system, /data, /cache
-Install Blazer ROM
-Reboot and let phone site for 10 minutes
-Reboot recovery and install kernel of choice (if different from packaged Blazer kernel)
-Reboot
Good luck. Feel free to poll the large user community for help in the Blazer ROM thread in the Dev section
Make sure you are NOT flashing with the hitman touch recovery that has given allot of people problems including myself.

Hi. Your procedures are just like what i did but no dice for me. will trying doing it again today. Thank you for your help.
If you have not flashed EL29 modem, do so... Then follow steps. After Manuel wipe, I would flash format all zip too. Btw, first boot could take up to 5mins...
I have the same problem when I went from blazer 3.8 to blazer 4.0. It just won't boot pass the galaxy logo. I have since flash a couple if different recoveries (cwm, rogue, etc). I was finally able to make it work blazer 4.0 with I've of them recoveries (but I forgot which one). Only problem now is that it won't work with the blazer 3.8 ROM.
I like the Blazer roms but they are very tricky/troublesome to flash. I don't have a problem with any of the recoveries with the other roms.
Blazer rom install
I've been using Rogue Recovery 1.1.2 (CWM v5.o.2.7) flash blazer roms 3.7. to 4.0 with out a problem also Caulkins roms might try that if your on a different version.
If you get stuck on SGS2 screen after flashing the new ROM, reboot to recovery (volume up + power). Flash the ROM again without wiping anything, then reboot.

You're flashing calkulins format all zip, after wipe, and before flashing the rom....right?

I didn't flash calkulins format all zip at first, just did nano, wipe and flash and I was running into the same issue. I finally did a complete format, then flashed calkulins format, then flashed Blazer..worked perfect.
I can Only go into download mode after flashing blazer. it will not let boot into recovery at all.

Yeah that happens to me too. You have to use odin to flash a recovery tar file to the phone. I use the cwm 5.0 tar file.
Hi guys, I have one question. When flashing the rom, should I select wipe data/factory reset option before flash calkulins format all zip or just flashing calkulins format all zip is going to be enough? Also, should I select wipe cache partition option too? I am on stock and this is gonna be my first rom.

[Q] Issue with Clockwork Recovery

I started out with (I believe) this rom- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323763 and all was good for months.
When the ICS rom leaked, I figured I'd try it, so I performed a backup in recovery mode and then flashed.
Now, Calkulin has an ICS rom and I wanted to play with that, however the leaked rom didn't have clockwork installed.
I grabbed Rom Manager, flashed CMR, and rebooted into recovery.
I had all the zips on my sdcard and went to flash the Calkulin wiper and the little droid started glowing and then fell over with a !. The log said that the signature couldn't be verified. I tried all 4 of his zips and none of them would flash.
So, I figured I'd just restore my old ROM backup... except that there is no backup/restore in recovery now. There is a restore section in the app, but it doesn't see any of my old backups.
My question is, is there a different recovery manager? Why can't I flash or restore?
you need to flash a custom ics kernel, like rouge, most ics roms should have this baked in already, however if not, you can flash it through odin via download mode, just put the rouge ics tar file in pda slot
Ok, so the leaked rom came with a stock kernel and that's bad...
Now I need to find the Odin flasher and rouge image.
Thanks
Mobile odin el26 with cwm. Rogue repacks are not safe to flash ROMs with. They can flash, but risk a brick. Use el26 and hold power+volume up to reboot into recovery. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvick, flash rom and gapps. Reboot and you will be good to go.

I just grabbed an ICS kernel off the wiki and it worked just fine.
No CWM with ICS roms.
afaik, none of the ICS roms have CWM bundled yet because CWM is unstable. Did you get CWM straight from ROM Manager, and it worked?
Actually, there is no bundled CWM because we don't have kernel source. EL26 was the last kernel with official CWM. DO NOT USE ROM Manager unless you want a brick.

Going from stock GB to CM10 or JB

Hey, I used to run CM9 on my phone, and eventually got tired of not having a few things work, so I flashed back to stock (rooted) GB for the time being. I was wondering what are the steps to go from what I have flashed now, to something like sbrissen's AOSP JB ROM or CM10. Like what files should I flash and in what order so I don't brick my phone?

Things you'll need: Odin, EL26 file (.tar version), Calks format all, JB ROM (I like CM10 but it's up to you) and Gapps for JB
Make a nandroid (if you dont have a custom recovery, go to next step). Boot into Odin mode and open up Odin on your computer and flash the EL26 file in the PDA version (turn off F reset time). Then go to recovery, (make a nandroid if you didn't before), wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache, (optional but recommended: flash Calks format all) and then flash whichever ROM you want and then flash the jb gapps and reboot
Almost all of the devs have instructions on their threads so you could follow that too. Hope this helps and happy flashing!
