Is there other apps that function like Trinity/Franco/Glados app? Because currently, I don't want to shell out a few bucks. I know i'm cheap, but just for now... Is there another app that is similar to those but free?
Also, I searched up SmartFlex, but I can't find an answer... Can anyone explain what it does?
I searched it, but I got answer like the system does not control CPU voltage or something.
Regarding the kernel apps... I don't think you'll find that in a free version. You could flash AOKP, which has some of those functionalities built-in the Rom Control menu in the Settings. There you can at least overclock & undervolt. For all the options you'll have to get the paid app however. Maybe reconsider buying them? At least the money goes to a good cause (that is the devs making those great kernels )
For the SmartFlex, I suppose you mean Smartreflex? I'm no expert on the matter, but as far as I know it's used to calibrate the voltages of the different hardware components like CPU & GPU. Turning off Smartreflex (if you've undervolted) will result in those components using 'stock' voltages, thus draining your battery faster. Difference should be minimal though, but I suppose it all depends on how far you undervolt.
Be wary with that by the way, too much undervolting could make your system unstable and in worst case damage the hardware...
Hm, one last question. For trinity kernel the Color Preset, it means the color setting is already in place right? So you don't have to adjust..
No you don't need to change the settings, but in the end it boils down to your own preference. Usually the defaults are fine of course.

Running AOKP with Franco's kernel, haven't tried anything else since most people recommended this combo, and I haven't noticed any cons (if there are any) to them. Anyways, been using the CPU Master app since the Mytouch 3G Slide days, up to Vibrant, G2x, and now GNex. There's always voltage controls that make it much easier to tweak the CPU, but I'm assuming the GNex isn't supported, as I can only change the frequency through the app.
I can however change it though the performance settings in AOKP, but its a little more of a pain to find the right settings, as its more manual. Anyone have any UV settings that work fine (IE, no shutting down while turning Wi-Fi on, etc.) Much appreciated, and feels great to own a Nexus!

suggestion: checkout ezekeel's kernel if you're into uv/oc; you should really read a lot more than this post on uv'ing manually.
you need to find your own uv values and what breaks in your phone when you uv too much. you have to do it manually or you're taking too big of a risk imo, or use kernel devs tweaking app (ezekeel, franco have this). voltage control also works.
uv i used to use (today i think smartreflex is more stable, thanks to nikademus)

edit: dont set uv on boot until you're sure that everything runs fine! even then, you should know your way out, by adb shell or cwm flashable zip to recover to stock voltages (or last know working ones )

You don't need a guide for the most part.
There's no reason to mess with most of the stuff it offers. Just mess with CPU and some of the stuff or voltages.

You only have the voltage option if your kernel supports it. The new Franco r10, Faux, and eternity should all support voltage option.
What do you do? It allows you to decrease voltages so the phone uses less energy thus saving more battery. Look in the respective threads to know safe/stable voltages. With you lack of knowledge on it (no offense) i'd recommend not messing around with it.
There's really nothing to do with system tuner right now besides undervolting. I'd recommend leaving everything else besides voltage stock.
Either way, I've found stock kernel to be the best still surprisingly as of right now. Best on battery and speed doesn't feel any different.

There are actually several ways to do this. The most popular of which are to have a rooted rom, install a separate application and use that application to modify your cpu speed. The more popular applications to do this are:
SetCPU
ROM Toolbox
ROM Toolbox light
I've used all of these and if I could suggest one to you, I would say ROM Toolbox, because it gives you a lot of other tools that SetCPU does not. HOWEVER, I find that in regards to overclocking/underclocking and setting profiles, SetCPU is much more handy and offers more customization.

System tuner pro is also nice. There is no " right" settings. Your phone might not like my settings profile. They are all different. I do however under clock. I see no lag on cm9 beta1. I use a Max CPU of 1ghz. I also under volt everything by -25 because -50 on Evert step crashes my phone. Yours may like it. Just remember do not push the set on boot button until you are sure your phone can handle the new setting.

It is pretty much a try what works. I find that over clocking is nice for certain things, but I like to have a long battery life as well, so I have mine set up so that the CPU is usually running ondemand 800-200 and for certain programs, ondemand 1200-500 and when the screen is turned off it is ondemand 500-200. I haven't had any problems and my battery life is generally very nice. Everyone's phone is different though.

Would anyone be kind enough to list a step-by-step process on how to overclock the Note 8.0 using SetCPU? I'm a new user of this app and I'm afraid I may end up doing some irreparable damage to the device.
I am also just curious to see if I can squeeze some more gaming juice from the Note 8.0.

I was going to post a link to a setCPU guide, but its no longer available
Id only push the CPU a little. In order to gain real gaming perfomance increases you need to push the GPU, but in order to do that you will need a kernel that supports it.
I only received my tablet last night and wont be rooting it until the weekend so cant say what settings ill be using yet. my aim is to attempt to overclock slightly and undervolt where I can...
You're not going to break it with SetCPU. If you overclock too much, the system will become unstable, then just back off. Also, the system will shut itself off well before any temperature possible of causing permanent damage was reached.
SetCPU has an option to create a recovery-flashable zip file, which resets the CPU settings to default. I would absolutely take this precaution, as I've had to resort to it on my old HTC Flyer tablet (became unstable, and bootlooped). As long as you select this option, you're pretty safe.
Other than that, just follow the basic rule of overclocking any computer, and push the clock up one or 2 increments at a time, then test for a few hours to see if the tablet is stable under various usage conditions. Repeat until you've either reached a desirable clock speed, or encounter instabilities.
Also, as you may already be aware, higher than "stock" CPU clock steps are normally not available unless you flash a custom kernel.
The trickster app supports GPU overclock on Civato's kernel.
If you're looking to push the GPU that's the way to go.

Does the Trickster app allow for senario clock settings. Ie. underclock the CPU on screen off or if battery is bellow a certain percentage?
I may have to switch from setCPU to it if it has the same settings and more...
I use Elementalx custom kernel. All the things in its app confuse me. The only thing I understand is setting min and max CPU rates. I did a lot of searches on what everything else is and what to do with it, and nothing made sense. I need an explanation in layman's terms. Any help would be infinitely appreciated. My device stutters a lot and I don't get very good battery life.

Just leave the default settings as they are. The kernel devs know what they do.
I would recommend testing all kernels and choose the one that fits for you and your usage.
For me mvk is the best but I know people were mvk is not fitting their usage and they swear on francos or elemental or....
Test them all and find the best for you.
I usually turn off zram as this phone has so much ram it didn't seem to need it. Had no noticable issues or anything.
I thought leaving everything at default is the best thing possible for this phone, at least Flar said to not use any other governor other than default sched anyway. Phone is smooth enough for me to not tweak anything anyway. That was the point for buying this phone at first place, leave Google to do their optimisation and sorts so we can simply start using it and save time.
Use the "L speed" app by paget96 in the playstore.
