You don't need a guide for the most part.
There's no reason to mess with most of the stuff it offers. Just mess with CPU and some of the stuff or voltages.
can you explain it further please? where can i change the voltage? and what does it do?

You only have the voltage option if your kernel supports it. The new Franco r10, Faux, and eternity should all support voltage option.
What do you do? It allows you to decrease voltages so the phone uses less energy thus saving more battery. Look in the respective threads to know safe/stable voltages. With you lack of knowledge on it (no offense) i'd recommend not messing around with it.
There's really nothing to do with system tuner right now besides undervolting. I'd recommend leaving everything else besides voltage stock.
Either way, I've found stock kernel to be the best still surprisingly as of right now. Best on battery and speed doesn't feel any different.

Hey guys, I was looking at flashing a cm9 rom, just for fun, and on the rootzwiki page, it does not show a kernel to flash along with the rom and gapps. I just want to make sure that there is no kernel, or for someone to direct me to where the kernel is, just to avoid anything going wrong.
Thanks.

Aeroevan made a kernel that allows extra governors and the ability to underclock. I posted a link in the ICS thread in the general section for Inc2 here.
Thanks for the quick reply, another question though.
You said something about the smartassv2, and good battery life in the same sentence. What is smartassv2, how much does it improve battery life, and how can i get it/flash it?

SmartassV2 governor improves battery by sitting on the lowest possible cpu speed when you have it sleeping and then only uses the amount of cpu necessary for your phone to run smooth when you have it awake. So if it's set to say 1.3ghz, which is what my max cpu is oc'd to, then it will run at that speed when it needs to but fluctuate between my lowest setting and that in order to conserve battery use. When you use that along with incredicontrol app to undervolt your cpu it improves your battery drastically.
I have my settings as so:
SetCPU: Max CPU: 1305600 (1.3ghz), Min CPU: 245760 (245mhz) using smartassV2 governor.
Incredicontrol: -25 across the board, this is done by clicking the back button on the top of the app one time, which sets all of the frequencies -25 at once.
hmmm... I'm looking at your sig, and if im flashing between roms, and not flashing radios, do I need to worry about what radio I'm on? I just read that it is very important not to downgrade your radio, but I have no idea how I would do that...

The radio is a seperate flash that is not necessary for the OS to run a certain way. You can try out different radios if you like. I have the newest because it gives me the best Data and Voice signals in my area. Different radios give better reception for people depending on where in the U.S. they are located. If you have a good clear signal you can choose to stay on what you have, I'm assuming you have the .722 radio. It doesn't hurt to try others though, worse case scenario you get no signal and have to flash the previous radio back again. Just make sure you are installing the correct radio for the Inc2 and OS. The GB radios work fine with ICS.
Is there other apps that function like Trinity/Franco/Glados app? Because currently, I don't want to shell out a few bucks. I know i'm cheap, but just for now... Is there another app that is similar to those but free?
Also, I searched up SmartFlex, but I can't find an answer... Can anyone explain what it does?
I searched it, but I got answer like the system does not control CPU voltage or something.
Regarding the kernel apps... I don't think you'll find that in a free version. You could flash AOKP, which has some of those functionalities built-in the Rom Control menu in the Settings. There you can at least overclock & undervolt. For all the options you'll have to get the paid app however. Maybe reconsider buying them? At least the money goes to a good cause (that is the devs making those great kernels )
For the SmartFlex, I suppose you mean Smartreflex? I'm no expert on the matter, but as far as I know it's used to calibrate the voltages of the different hardware components like CPU & GPU. Turning off Smartreflex (if you've undervolted) will result in those components using 'stock' voltages, thus draining your battery faster. Difference should be minimal though, but I suppose it all depends on how far you undervolt.
Be wary with that by the way, too much undervolting could make your system unstable and in worst case damage the hardware...
Hm, one last question. For trinity kernel the Color Preset, it means the color setting is already in place right? So you don't have to adjust..
No you don't need to change the settings, but in the end it boils down to your own preference. Usually the defaults are fine of course.
Hi guys,
I'm a bit of a noob so please bear with me. I recently rooted my phone (SGH-I747M Telus), I have CWM recovery installed. I was interested in overclocking so I installed this kernel on my stock rooted rom (I installed the "sammy" one). I also cleared the delvik cache, cache, and fixed permissions before rebooting. Now I'm having a weird problem with video playback. I get these bleep like sounds, like you might hear on a spaceship, lol. The normal audio plays in addition to these sounds. Yet, regular audio plays fine (mp3s), same with youtube. So, my question is, why? Is there any way of fixing this? I'd rather not play around the stock ROM. I made a backup before doing anything and recently tried to restore the boot, but I got an invalid md5 check.

Okay, I was able to fix my problem by flashing the stock at&t kernel... but I would still like to be able to overclock... is there another kernel that I can try or a way to fix the problem with the kernel I already tried? Thanks.
If you still want to try previous kernel your problem might be because of heavy undervolting , kernel creator posted this voltage chart.
You can experiment by increasing voltage and see if that helps.
Or you can just try this faux kernel , its pretty good also, we don't have many kernel choices for Samsung based roms at this early development cycle.

Thanks for the reply... but I was able to fix the problem. It was something wrong with the settings of SetCPU which I installed earlier. I changed it from on demand to performance and now all is well. Now I have a question about battery life. Will overclocking drain battery a lot faster? I imagine it would only make a difference if I was doing CPU intensive things.

Well.. performance setting makes it so that your CPU runs 100% all the time. I don't think that will be battery friendly . Overclock generally uses more power and battery longevity will depend on your usage.
You can try messing with setcpu settings. Try Conservative, then limit minimum speed to 384 and max to your preference. Try your movie again.
Current kernels and setcpu are a bit quirky.
I had the same issues on ktoonsez Sammy. Ended up back at stock AT&T. I've heard it's an issue with many of the kernels but a fix is on the way. Couldn't find a way to get rid of it, but that's not to say it can't be done. Don't have much time to tinker right now.

Its a known issue on ktoonsez kernel. Flash faux's kernel, it has the same features (as well as GPU OC) and doesn't have the audio issue.
I was wondering on how exactly I do this? I looked through and seen people talking about it, but not how to do it. Can someone explain to me what it does, and how to do it?

There are actually several ways to do this. The most popular of which are to have a rooted rom, install a separate application and use that application to modify your cpu speed. The more popular applications to do this are:
SetCPU
ROM Toolbox
ROM Toolbox light
I've used all of these and if I could suggest one to you, I would say ROM Toolbox, because it gives you a lot of other tools that SetCPU does not. HOWEVER, I find that in regards to overclocking/underclocking and setting profiles, SetCPU is much more handy and offers more customization.

Is there any certain configuration that you find best? Thanks for all the links and suggestions also!
System tuner pro is also nice. There is no " right" settings. Your phone might not like my settings profile. They are all different. I do however under clock. I see no lag on cm9 beta1. I use a Max CPU of 1ghz. I also under volt everything by -25 because -50 on Evert step crashes my phone. Yours may like it. Just remember do not push the set on boot button until you are sure your phone can handle the new setting.

It is pretty much a try what works. I find that over clocking is nice for certain things, but I like to have a long battery life as well, so I have mine set up so that the CPU is usually running ondemand 800-200 and for certain programs, ondemand 1200-500 and when the screen is turned off it is ondemand 500-200. I haven't had any problems and my battery life is generally very nice. Everyone's phone is different though.

I use Elementalx custom kernel. All the things in its app confuse me. The only thing I understand is setting min and max CPU rates. I did a lot of searches on what everything else is and what to do with it, and nothing made sense. I need an explanation in layman's terms. Any help would be infinitely appreciated. My device stutters a lot and I don't get very good battery life.
You can take a look at this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/ref-to-date-guide-cpu-governors-o-t3048957
There are a lot of basics and information.
I run EX too and leave the default settings as is. Flar knows more than me that's for sure!

Just leave the default settings as they are. The kernel devs know what they do.
I would recommend testing all kernels and choose the one that fits for you and your usage.
For me mvk is the best but I know people were mvk is not fitting their usage and they swear on francos or elemental or....
Test them all and find the best for you.
I usually turn off zram as this phone has so much ram it didn't seem to need it. Had no noticable issues or anything.
I thought leaving everything at default is the best thing possible for this phone, at least Flar said to not use any other governor other than default sched anyway. Phone is smooth enough for me to not tweak anything anyway. That was the point for buying this phone at first place, leave Google to do their optimisation and sorts so we can simply start using it and save time.
Use the "L speed" app by paget96 in the playstore.
