Resolution: 960x800 but can be used too with 10.1 inches for Tablets.. but best for the Beast, S3

So, how many aspect ratios will WP7S have exactly?

Windows Phone Thoughts have noticed something that slipped most people's attention: there was an announcement about two resolutions, WVGA and HVGA, supported by WP7S, which makes two aspect ratios. Hardware scaler or not, this is a problem in terms of UI development. So either this is a strange change in MS's approach, or there's a simple typo/mistake somewhere.
I got the same question because I notice 2 different aspect ratios:
800x480 and 480x320.
Both are different.
And this morning, I found the answer from Microsoft developer Shawn Hargreaves:

If you just program to a fixed resolution, you will get letterboxing (black bars) if the game is played on a device with a different aspect ratio. Everything will still work fine, though, and we will never stretch or distort the image.
If you want to detect the native resolution and adjust your rendering for different aspect ratios, you can do that to. I think it will depend on the game which is the better/easier way to go.

I think they are really wanting to appeal to the business user with the 480x320 resolution and front facing qwerty. I don't think games with be a big deal on these devices. It's nice to see some diversity hopefully it doesn't cause any issues.
But it's most certainly an issue and it really goes against everything they preach with regard to platform standardization. I also can't quite imagine their start screen working well on a small landscape-oriented screen. What a weird twist.
The second aspect ratio, HVGA 480x320 will be a bit wider on the 320 side compared to the first aspect ratio.
I expect the main gui aspect ratio will not be stretched, but the "cut off" screen will be much more shown.
Well, we know very little about the 480x320 version anyway. Who knows what that one will be like?
They didn't learn sh!t from the past....
In theory, it’s usually considered best to write programs that adapt themselves to any screen
size, but that’s not always possible, particularly with game development. You will probably find
yourself specifically targeting these two screen sizes, even to the extent of having if/else clauses
and different XAML files for layout that is size-dependent.

Launch res: 480h/800w = 0.60
Second res: 320h/480w = 0.67
I don't think the hardware scaler is going to have a hard time dealing with this. When I saw them demo it at GDC I couldn't tell a difference. The developer will only have to work on one aspect ratio / pixel count and the phone will do the rest of the work automatically, they said.

Will the Evo 2 sport a 4" 1024x640 screen?

I don't see why not, since this chinese company is already doing it with their phone! C'mon HTC, quit falling behind!

Those specs are pretty much the expected standard for 2010 android smartphones. I agree with Nate, not impressed.

Really "expected standard"? What smartphones on the market today sport 10-finger multi touch and 1024x640 display?

Have to agree with not very impressed. Good luck using all 10 of your fingers at once. Some things are overkill to me...
Do you really think there will be an "evo 2"?

The G2 will be out for the holidays, why not an EVO2
A 5mp camera??? I don't believe this one bit!
10 fingers.... lol. That almost seems like BS to me. It's pointless. Seems like manufacturers are trying to squeeze any inane feature into their phone to make it seems like it's the "next" big thing.
Do we really need a higher resolution with the same screen sizes? Everything we have now looks great at the current resolution. Maybe someone can explain the benefits of increasing the resolution?
what requires you to use 10 fingers? i cant find a single app that runs 3 point multitouch.. ... good luck with that..

I would love to see a higher resolution screen. However, I wouldn't go so far as to put 1080p on a smartphone. 1280x800 seems like a practical limit. For starters, the web browsing experience would be just like a desktop web browsing experience. And you could play 720p video. And hopefully, with Gingerbread, we could fit more widgets onto our home screens.
I have a net book that's 1024x600 and even that is limiting in its use.

I use more than 3-points using Nesoid to play NES games for several games. 10-point is overkill, though, IMO.
If you scroll down the article to the latest update, it reads:
"Last update : Jack Wong has just unveiled that he will abort the old screen resolution of 780×480 and replaced it with the a new 3,5-inch screen offering a iPhone 4 like resolution of 960×640 which will be called Meizu M9. Moreover the Meizu M9II will be equipped with a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 1024×640."
The real questions are how good is the GPU and is it a real HDMI out. Processor speed and RAM is the same as the Evo. At this point, the Evo's 4.3" screen is bigger than the M9II at 4", and the Evo has a better camera, a front-facing camera, the kick-stand (which I use plenty with my SlingBox), and a lot more accessories and development. I wouldn't buy this over an Evo just for the resolution.
Well whatever the summer 2011 Sprint/Android phone is, I do believe that it'll have a higher res screen. The Adreno 220 (which comes with the dual core 1.2 GHz 45nm Snapdragons due in the first half of 2011) supports up to 1280x800 but I doubt that we'll see that in anything but tablets. On phones we'll probably see the dual core CPU down clocked to 800 MHz - 1 GHz (which would still make it a lot faster than anything on the market now) and the same 1024x640 display as on that phone. Why 1024x640? All apps would scale pretty perfectly (same ratio as 800x480).

I disagree with a few things. Let's start with the web experience. Sure, having a desktop resolution means that you could see more of a web page... but with a 4-4.3" screen, you can't read text that small. Besides, you can just zoom out to see more. So I'm not too convinced there.
As for widgets, you can load as many as your launcher allows. HTC would fit more widgets if they were smaller. Same size as they would be if you increased the resolution but kept the same screen size. I think the limit we have now is fine simply because anything more would be really cluttered.
The Galaxy S phones can play 720p movies, but of course they are downscaled. But you still get the same level of detail. It's insane watching a 720p movie on my Epic. Can't imagine anything being sharper than that.
I mean... the iPhone 4 has a larger resolution than the iPhone 3GS... but the desktop experience is unchanged. Icons are the same size. Still need to zoom in to read small text. Etc etc...

I disagree here. It's not really about seeing more, it's about the clarity of small text (which gets easier to read at higher DPI's.
The iPhone 4's display is relatively small compared to the EVO's 4.3" but even at that size the extra DPI makes smaller text more readable on the iPhone 4 than on the EVO. I should know since I own both and have perfect vision.
4.3" w/ a 1024x640 resolution would be KILLER for web browsing and e-reading.

What's so funny about that? 1024x640 is the widescreen version of the iPhone 4's 960x640, and it's worth it from my use.
I would hope it would be a 720p screen not some off the wall resolution like that.
im currently drooling over this little beast

It will take a while for smart phones to reach 720p. The DPI would be ridiculous on mid size screens.

Changing Tab S 8.4's Resolution?

I am getting FPS lags in the new game I am playing, and i think it's due to the Tab S 8.4's spec not good enough to support its huge resolution... the game is quiet graphics intensive, so I was wondering if i can bring the Tab S 8.4's resolution back down to 1080P?
Try NOMone Resolution Changer this app works on LG G3, Zenfone 5 and other devices i think it works on Tab S too P.S You need root and sorry for my bag english
Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
What game are you playing @errorrrr
Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage new rhythm game from Bandai Namco.... the 3D standard setting eats almost every device on the market alive right now....
i think the only device that runs it truly smooth is galaxy s6 edge class devices...
I tried NOMone Resolution Changer, because Hearthstone is running with a bad framerate.
I tried to set the resolution to 1280*800 160 dpi but it doesn't actually change anything.
Did someone ever manage to lower the resolution on the Tab S ?

Best Resolution for Pubg Mobile w/ GFX tools?

Hi, I'm wondering what other note 10+ players are using for their resolution settings for Pubg Mobile. I've been messing around with it and cant seem to figure out if a higher resolution improves visibility, or if I'm better off with a low res...I am running it on smooth/60fps regardless of the resolution.
I'm not new to the game, just new to the phone...any advice would be appreciated!
Bet you would get better grams if you came and played on the computer!!!
