First off:
R800x
VZW 2.3.4
Rooted
Okay, here is the issue. After installing the Darkforest CDMA 3.0.5 rom for locked bootloaders, I began to notice that after about 0.5-12 hours of my phone being on, it would REMAIN on (I know this because using the volume rockers would either vibrate or make noise) but the screen would be completely black, and use of the power button or home button would cause no reaction from the phone. Then I would have to remove the battery, replace it, and then attempt to reboot (reboot would only happen about 1/10 times, unless booting into recovery mode.) Reluctantly, in an attempt to fix this I wiped system, flashed back to my 2.3.3 ftf, rooted, and OTA'd to 2.3.4. But, it is still happening, but I notice boot DOES work, only about 10 minutes after pressing the button.
Any help is gratefully accepted.
EDIT: After a little testing, I noticed after the screen goes out, sliding the gamepad out fixes the issue, I am not sure if it fixes it on boot. Is this possibly a hardware issue, or software issue?
EDIT: Pulling out the Game pad once or twice during boot or after the screen goes black DOES fix it and shows the screen, no idea what's wrong, if it is hardware issues is it possible to fix?

Uhm, to start, mind sending me a link to the ROM? Couldn't find it.
Initially, I thought it was the from but since you flashed stock and then OTAd, I'm not sure what it could be

Sorry, my phone was officially broken, hadn't checked XDA since, all is fixed, just got a replacement instead of fixing it myself.

Hey all -- I am an idiot, first and foremost.
I was running an older version of CM7 and just bought an Evo 3D. I decided to sell my Evo 4G online, and went to unroot it. I ran the original software RUU (1.06.651.4) on the phone, (because I am dumb and didn't think things through) and now it is semi-bricked.
Symptoms:
The phone turns on with only a black screen (it is "lit up" but nothing appears on the screen).
The phone vibrates once, then the phone plays a sound (a little tune) to indicate it is booting up.
The phone plays a sound to indicate a low battery warning.
The phone plays a sound to indicate when I connect the USB cable to it.
If I try to boot to bootloader by holding Vol-Down when powering up, the black screen appears with no sound and no further action.
If I try to re-run the RUU, or run a different RUU, I get a USB Connection Error.
I can't run an RUU, I can't flash anything because I have no access to Recovery, etc.
Can anyone help fix my stupidity? I shouldn't have rushed into unrooting. Damnit.
Mmm. Interesting situation. I don't think you're screwed though.
Try this.
Pull the battery and let it chill for a minute.
Put it back in
Try to boot into bootloader again by holding volume down key.
Hopefully it will allow you to boot into hboot.
Report back how that goes

Have done combinations of 'remove battery, let sit, reboot (into bootloader OR regular reboot)' since yesterday. No change.
Smash it and get a replacement

All of those require the ability to access the bootloader.
But thanks.
This may be a dumb question but before today I never even knew it existed. What is "safe mode"? Is that like safe mode on a windows pc where it only loads default drivers, or is it something else entirely?

I'm interested too. In what capacity did you first learn of "safe mode"?
??
I don't think this exists on this phone, so I am not sure what you're talking about here.
There is the bootloader, recovery, and then normal phone functions.
Where did you hear about safe mode?
I know there's hboot.. recovery and bootloader. But safe mode never heard of it

I actually found out about it on accident. My phone kept looping at the boot animation. I went to pull the battery but accidently hit vol down and power button at same time wile pulling off the cover. All of a sudden phone vibrated 3 times and then booted but it had safe mode printed in the lower left corner. I tried googling it but couldnt find anything thay explained exactly what it is.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
You can try it on your phones. When the boot animation starts playing hold vol down and power at the same time. Keep holding it untill your phone vibrates.

It did allow me to fix my phone without having to restore a nandroid. I was trying to get a hotboot mod to work on the new stock rooted GB when i got the boot loop. But being able to boot into safe mode allowed me to change the moded file back to the original therfore fixing my boot loop issue.

Hmmm I did try it but couldn't replicate your results. I tried holding V-&Power at both the splash screen and the bootanimation. Both attempts yeilded only booting normally.

Hmm not sure works constitently for me. You have to keep holding them until your phone vibrates. You are on a DINC right? Are you on custom or stock rom, not sure if its specific to the rom or not. I am on stock rooted GB.

Yea no, I think its a HTC Sense thing. I'm currently running CM Nightly 168 so I don't think its a 'general' Android thing.

I've been doing some more googling and it seems every stock rom running android phone has safe mode, but different phones have different ways of entering into it. Some vol down and power, some vol up and power, some you have to hold the menu button, some vol down power and menu, and some holding down the track ball.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Hmm, never stumbled onto that before. Thanks to everyone for feedback!
Interesting, I'll have to try it next time I change up my phone config
Edit:
Wow, that just saved me from a lot of trouble. Flashed a voltage table that was unstable and caused the phone to bootloop, this worked saving me from an uninstall.

Saved me a lot of trouble and time too. Cant believe i never knew about it. Also this did work on CM nightly? The earlier post by wildstang said he could not get it to work with cm. Leaving me to believe it was a stock rom or sense related thing.

I don't know, it worked for me yesterday, however I'm not sure what I pressed. I can't seem to get back into safe mode now
Edit, seems like if you press vol down, menu, and trackball it goes into safe mode. I updated my cm7 nightly, now safemode does not work....

This happened to me yesterday while I was running the RC5 Community ROM. The phone froze would not respond so I went to pull the battery and it rebooted itself into Safe Mode. Took me by surprise too.

I had just received this phone, and I haven't modded anything. When I got this phone, it was stuck in boot loop, and I have no idea what the previous owner did to it. He said it was a battery issue, but the battery charges and holds a charge. The phone boots, makes it to the ATT screen, and reboots. I have no idea how to boot this phone into recovery, or if it even has one (which would be pretty crappy on Sony's part if it didn't.) Is there any way this can be fixed? Also, I tried downloading flashtool and it's not compatible with my version of Windows 8 (Eval copy :/ ). Am I out of luck?
BUMP
Need help ASAP.
See if you can get into recovery by either spamming Vol up or the back button when you turn the phone on.

Hello People!
I am afraid that I somehow ended up with my phone bricked. I have been running Stock Gingerbread but rooted. I upgraded to 2.3.6. recently and this morning, for reasons yet unknown to me, my phone was dead.
It was on the charger all night so the battery should be charged all right. When I turn it on, it vibrates, but that is it for about 30secs. After that the keyboard and the capacitive buttons below the screen light up and remain turned on for seemingly indefinite time. I cannot test if the phone responds as the screen is ... black. What might this be ? Are there any peopl ewith experience ?
Kind regards
mlksh
You could always try to odin to stock ics? Can you get into download mode? If so there are guides to get to stock ics from there and guides to root it. gingerbread is old school

But the phone failed for no apparent reason - I have never heard of any phone behaving like this. I try to hook it up when I get back home on Tuesday. I am actually wondeirng if it might be a hardware fault ? But if it is ... then why does the keybaord light up and glow indefinitely ?
Can you get into download mode? If so then most likely a software issue. I believe you hold power button and volume up till its in dl screen.

it sounds like something wasn't upgraded right. Try going into download mode (pwr + up) and use odin to flash UCLJ3 (ics) and try to see if that fixes the os not booting up completely

Hi,
Recently, my XPS has been showing a strange thing with the back hw button (the left one).
I click on it, I feel the buzz but nothing happens. Only when I click anywhere on the screen it goes back. It happens in many different apps.
Have you noticed anything similar?

It appears to be nothing but software glitch.
How about re-installing the phone's software ?
That would result in loss of root access though
I really don't feel like reinstalling anything before JB update.
In the meantime I've developed a new theory yet to be tested. Maybe this only happens when the phone is charging. Could be an electrostatic phenomena with the capacitive button... I will try to register the conditions every time it happens.

All right, that would be great.
I've tested on mine, it's working fine in every case.
It's a long time for JB. You can expect it at the end of April or in later month
It really seems that only happens when I'm charging the phone...
