Hello People!
I am afraid that I somehow ended up with my phone bricked. I have been running Stock Gingerbread but rooted. I upgraded to 2.3.6. recently and this morning, for reasons yet unknown to me, my phone was dead.
It was on the charger all night so the battery should be charged all right. When I turn it on, it vibrates, but that is it for about 30secs. After that the keyboard and the capacitive buttons below the screen light up and remain turned on for seemingly indefinite time. I cannot test if the phone responds as the screen is ... black. What might this be ? Are there any peopl ewith experience ?
Kind regards
mlksh
You could always try to odin to stock ics? Can you get into download mode? If so there are guides to get to stock ics from there and guides to root it. gingerbread is old school

But the phone failed for no apparent reason - I have never heard of any phone behaving like this. I try to hook it up when I get back home on Tuesday. I am actually wondeirng if it might be a hardware fault ? But if it is ... then why does the keybaord light up and glow indefinitely ?
Can you get into download mode? If so then most likely a software issue. I believe you hold power button and volume up till its in dl screen.

it sounds like something wasn't upgraded right. Try going into download mode (pwr + up) and use odin to flash UCLJ3 (ics) and try to see if that fixes the os not booting up completely
Hey i like this idea... Lol

Hello everyone. NOOB here... so i've downloaded a ROM from galaxys2root.com and i downloaded the Paradox 2 Paradise ROM. once i downloaded i backed up my ROM and set it on CWM. i hit to reboot it and it starts with the darksidex kernel loader and then it shows a google sign with mechanisms turning. and it just stays there... nothing else happens... can anyone provide assistance. thank you
Maybe you had a bad download. Download the rom again and try flashing it again and see what happenes.

i havent been able to open anything at all... i try to do a hard reset by pressing the volume up, home button and then the power button... it turns the screen off and it just vibrates once every 3-4 seconds .... and nothing shows...
When I first flashed that ROM the google logo was there for 15 minutes. Just reflash or be patient.

ever since i rooted and flashed nard rom, my rogers splash screen goes from the normal red to a dark blue....no matter what i do it wont ever stay red....ive tried flashing the stock rogers kernel....any suggestions?
Mine did it too when I flashed ICS roms. I kind of like it. Mine stars red then goes blue after a few sec. It stays blue on reboots but goes back to red for a few sec if I do a power down.
I can tell you when I flashed back to Inc3ption it went back to only red.

I like that it's different...I found some place on youtube that was changing the red rogers to say 'Rooted' in Red instead of 'Rogers' but couldn't be done on our phone. That would be coo if it could be done on our glide? Anyone know how or if theae types of changes will be able to be done on the cm9 build? PeACe

I was on Rogers GB initially. Then went to one click which removed rogers and put at&t at the boot. Then i'd NardROM for quite a while and now i'm running LiteROM, but both of these have a samsung logo followed by galaxy s boot screen. I'm amazed you guys still have the rogers logo . Also i've flashed the alpha bults by dman which changes the boot animation to the cool CM9. Haven't seem the rogers logo since flashing the one click ICS.
Never flashed the 1 click.I actually flashed the cwm ICS stock. Flaky USB makes me afraid to flash the 1 click. ICS is working fine with this method I wonder what is different doing it this way. Oh and I got to keep my cwm 5.0 this way.

What is the difference between the cwm5 and 6 bc I haven't been able to find much of one. Is there a benefit to using one or the other?
CWM 5 volume keys up and down to navigate and power button to select. CWM 6 touch controlled. I have 5 and I am quite happy with it. Some people love 6. Guess it's a matter of preference. Since 5 is working for me I saw no need to try 6.

It's weird...whenever I try to do any of those things, the screen will turn on for a moment [the backlight, no logo or anything comes up] and then after about a second immediately turns off....I tried injecting a rooted version of the stock rom with Odin into my phone, but I kept getting strange error messages like TouchWiz isn't working and some other android process isn't working.
[That didn't work, so I decided to try a different method. This is where I ****ed up, because I forgot to go back to stock rom...]
Anyways, after that, I tried to use the SGS3 Toolkit [if you search sgs3 toolkit xda, it'll come up] and I tried to use that to root. I went to "rooting options" and i selected option number 3, the all in one. I got to the point where it mentions your phone must be in USB debugging, and now nothing comes up when I try to start the phone..but it vibrates whenever I hold the power button long enough [as if it was working normally]. I can't get into download mode right now, either...
How do I reverse this and go back to stock? Please help...thank you so much.

I'm basing this answer based on how I understood what you said...
But, if you're already rooted, then hopefully you've made a backup before installing another ROM. If you have a backup, then put into recovery and backup.
I wasn't already rooted, I was trying to root it. I can't get into recovery.

Same thing, no dice :[
Plug it into the computer and see if anything shows in device manager.
I hate to say though, I think you may be bricked....
Unless anyone else can think of something to try?
Sorry man...

Also you can try safe mode. Doubt it'll work but I just learned how to do it so thought id suggest. Hold volume down + power.

Have you plugged into the computer and checked device manager yet? What does it say?
I think if it says something like qhsusb that means its bricked.
I'm hoping someone can verify that though since I'm going by memory.

Well, I sent it back to T-Mobile and said hey it doesn't work. Let's see if they say anything about it. They sent me a new one, though
I'm having exactly the same problem with my T-Mobile Galaxy SII T989 running Open Kang AOKP JB Jelly Bean. After reading this thread, and another related thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679492), my less than scientific observation is that pressing/massaging/jiggling the power button seems to bring the device back to life. At least until it flakes out again. The posts in this thread were a big help. I was going to ditch the ROM, which would have been a shame. Thanks.
Stock SG3. Never rooted. Got a notice for an upgrade, I assume to Jelly Bean, that said the phone will reboot and it will take 10 mins. Hit OK, it turned off and there it sits. Tried to get to recovery after 40 mins, no joy. Took out battery, no joy. Best I can get is if I hold down the power button it'll buzz after 5-6 seconds and flash teeny tiny words "Recovery Booting..." in the upper left corner in a nice blue color. Up, power, Home does nothing. T-Mo said to take it to a store. NOT real impressed with the update or aftermath. Ideas or suggestions?
I would suggest you provide a little more info. Was it stock firmware?...root?...etc etc
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'd suggest taking it to the store.
There can be problems with any big rollout.
It's really 6 of one and a half a dozen.
Just flash cm10 you'd be straight.
My dad won't let me upgrade his stock one. Pebble blue.
I could fix it up.
You're only hard bricked if you can't get into recovery or down load mode
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Hold down volume down + home + power button and see if it turns on. That's recovery mode. You will see a warning signs... If your able to do that just bite the bullet and root it. Let me know so I can link you to no trip method

Thanks folks. As I said in my original post, this is a stock, non-rooted phone and - eventually - I got it back working. I guess it just wanted a rest. Then i applied the update via Keis BUT it wasn't Jelly Bean. It was something else because I still show 4.0.4. Disappointed.

I just updated my phone yesterday, and im having two issues. The main issue is the flasshing red boarder around the entire screen the appears mostly when switching apps, going home, and turning on/off. It even happens during the boot-up.
Second, my keyboard is lagging. I have all of the "feedback" features turned off and it still does it. No 3rd party boards installed. I really like the new keyboard and I wont have some third party app developers recording every keystroke.
Any ideas?

I wasn't aware there even was on OTA update to 4.1.1. Far as I knew you could only do it through Kies. Maybe try redoing it through that? Or find the stock image on here and flash it through Odin.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Check the developer options. One of them is set to update when the screen draws. Just disable anything in there you don't need.

It was due to user error.
I had strick mode on for some reason.

It was a dubuging feature turned on.
4.1 is available OTA for AT&T right now.
I dont know when it became available, but its really nice. I use adw pro launcher always on all my android devices so I dont get the full experience of 4.1. I really love what they did with the keyboard and the dropdown, but I really wish they kept the data switch there.
My battery life is not as good anymore though...
Anyway, let me know if its not available to you.

Nvmnd it didnt completely fix the problem.
It doesnt do it nearly as much, but its still there. I will redo from kies.
