[Q] jelly bean and skype - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys i am new member of xda developers/.....
here i have some questions regarding my kindle fire..
1: can i install jelly bean on my kindle fire currently running energy ice cream sandwich which have some problems that is not running some of the games and softwares like fruit ninja and medscape.
2: how can i use skype in kindle?? i have mobile head set which have both microphone and headphone with one pin jack plug???
plz help me i ll wait for ur reply and cooperation
thanks

There is no stable jelly bean rom out as of right now a few people are working on it though. Not sure about Skype never tried nit.
Sent from my Kindle Fire

You can't you Skype because we don't have the ability to use a headphone mic combo. We still lack the ability to output audio while inputting as well. As far as jelly bean no one can even think about making a rom until Google releases the source code in mid July, which if you think isn't to far away but we will still have to debug a sh!t ton before a stable release is out.

[Q] Do you recommend buying Kindle Fire ?

Hi All ,
Want to get a cheap tablet as already own HTC Desire HD and just want to try Android at bigger screen ...
after searching found that Kindle Fire is the cheapest tablet that i can get but also found some problems related to few limitations Amazon added to it's tablet but also found that there is a solution for that problems
i will use it in Browsing , Facebook , Twitter and other normal stuff ,,, don't need a super performance
also noticed that there is other ROM's for the devices and already tried MIUI and CM7 at my Desire HD and was good so i guess using other ROM will solve most of Kindle Fire problems
another question ,,, is there any Honeycomb or ICS ROM for it either officially or by developers
Thanks a lot and waiting your help and if there any other tablet with good spec and good price that will be better than KF let me know plz
maybe you want to take a look at this thead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393617
Yes, there is unofficial CM-7 ROM and CM-9 for kindle Fire. CM-7 is more stable and all features are running. CM-9 is also fairly stable but some features are still under development such as HD.
I am running CM-9 for almost more than three weeks in daily bases as the main ROM.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
Please note there are other Android tablet with more features such as external SD card and 3G network with a reasonable additional money if KF spec does not meet you requirement.
I forget to mention in my previous note that the blue youth is not enable on the stock ROM. Development is underway to enable it on CM7 and CM9.

Thanks all for your quick help
is installing other ROM like MIUI make it a full functional ROM with all video playback - using MX Video as example - and Full music player either it's MIUI player or other one ?
does using other ROM like MIUI or CM remove all limitations and allow me to install apps and games and whatever i want ?!
i guess MIUI based on 2.3.7 is stable enough for daily use and there is MIUI ICS ROM for it and Stock ICS ROM also was available while i was searching
i guess MIUI will be great on it
The Question is : Does Removing Stock ROM And Installing MIUI , CM , ICS Ports To It Convert It To Normal Tablet With All Android Functions ?
Thanks again all

Yes. I'm on CM7 and have full Android experience. Of course, no BT, no ext card. And you will lose some Amazon goodies, but anyway most of them are useless if you are not in States

Thanks again and i will try to find way to get it by friend or whatever
If you just want it for Facebook, twitter, porn, ect... then the Fire will do you good. For $200 you really can't go wrong. Anyone know if it's possible to get the web browser from CM9 to run on CM7? I just like the way it's setup more.
Just flashed CM7 on my KF and couldn't be happier!!!! Seriously, it's an amazing tablet, especially for $199. As Morrison79 stated above, you really can't go wrong.
Does other browser like opera , firefox , dolphin hd working good ??
also what about MX Video Player , it's the best video player i have ever used , does it work good with KF ?
i know that it's for 200$ it's an amazing tablet and already like MIUI and CM Rom and have no problem in using any as my main ROM
i will search for any friend that can got it for me soon

Yes all three of those browsers work great on Cyanogenmod 7... I loved the ICS browser so much that I did not try them though I do not know about video player sorry..
Have the Fire and 32gb HP Touchpad...I have CM9 on the touchpad and like it better over the KF. But for travelling and on the go the KF comes with me most of the time due to the smaller size.
Paid almost the exact amount for the KF and Touchpad.
Hi all ,
As i have a friend now in US that can grab the KF for me ,, shall i get one or wait for ASUS Google Nexus Tablet ???
Also is there a ICS ROMs for KF Full Functional now or no ??

Some of the ICS Roms look very stable and have very little bugs that are minor

if you find something I posted helpful please thank me
I use CM9 as my daily now. Currently using the Energy ROM w/ Hashcode's June-8 kernel and it is solid as a brick. Minor issues: It seems the ROM has regressed regarding recognizing ad hoc networks (for tethering). Some other ROMs appear to support ad hoc networks. Auto brightness doesn't work yet in this ROM, either.
Those are the only issues I can find right now and I use it every day. I give it the "Daily" seal of approval!

So you all recommend that i get the Kindle Fire , Remove The Stock Firmware , Install Miui/CM9 and enjoy a dual core tablet for 200$ till the Quad Core Tablets are released ,,,
Any issue with common Applications or Games or every thing is just working fine ?
Most of use will be Movies , Games , Internet , Music
I play MassEffect Infiltrator, FLCommando on my kindle quite often. Both run without a hiccup.
I don't know how far in future a new/better deal is going to come out but right now this is as good as it gets. And you must come to grips with the fact that sooner or later something better is inevitably going to come out. Doesn't mean you should regret your decision to go with the kindle. It is a bargain at $200 after all.

I have a kindle fire, running ICS (gedeROM v1.55).
It works great. Music, videos, games, internet, Google apps & store.
Definitely don't think it would be a mistake getting this tablet if you just can't wait any longer.
But with the nexus tablet is likely to be announced by end of month, I would wait just a bit longer to weigh options.

My nexus jelly bean 4.1.1 review

Hi everyone I'm gonna try my best to review the jelly bean 4.1.1 update on the nexus and what the advantages are versus ICS 4.0.2 that I had on a yakjuux build.
First off 4.0.2 wasn't as bad for me but when I heard 4.1.1 was rolling out and what the changes were I had to have it. So I pounded away at the check update button for 4 days without any luck. I then took matters into my own hands and with help with xda forums unlocked the bootloader and installed a yajku 4.0.4 build. Once that was done I did not lose time setting up anything just yet and went for the check update button again and first try boom! Jelly bean update. So I installed it and the magic began.
First off I said to myself will it be as laggy as ICS was? Well no everything is smooth, buttery smooth. Because of what Google calls project butter jelly bean is extremely responsive and almost never lags. I say almost cause some apps will. There is a huge improvement when we talk opening apps, phone, keyboard, camera, it's just what ICS should have been.
Now for the new features. Well there is Google now, voice recognition is wayyyyy better in fact I'm using to write this article and so far very few mistakes that I had to fix. And of course NFC tweaks which makes android beam get a couple new tricks suck as video and picture sharing and not quite sure of the rest haven't had the chance to test it yet.
Google now, well once activated it remembers the stuff you do on Google mostly and gathers everything for for some when you need for say check the weather well hold the home button and when you see a Google signs drag up to it and boom all the info you need like weather, sports results, etc and very fast. Works great and is customizable if you want to add stuff.
Like I said did not yet get the chance to try android beam yet but I'll edit when I do and compare both the older version vs newer.
Flash: As you may or may not know adobe no longer supports flash on 4.1.1 and I thought that would be an issue for me. Well I was surprised at how many sites already run html5 as I had barely no issues yet and I'm a heavy user. Besides there is probably a browser that fixes all that for you already.
So that pretty much rounds it out but the main improvement is speed and how smooth things are. From the photo app to the 3rd part drawing app everything loads quicker and without any lag. I remember typing with 4.0.2 yakjuux build omg a word would appear 3-4 secondes after typing it and now its flawless. So my fellow Canadian users you should take the time to switch your build for a yakju build and gets updates directly from Google and not Samsung like the jakjuux build as I still had 4.0.2 not 4.0.4 to show how fast they are.....lol
Thank you for reading and if you have questions and it was not covered please feel free to ask.

Hello all again,
So it has been 2 weeks now and jelly bean still is my favorite. Had no issues with it so far and it's blazing fast.
Internet wise I did have 1 or 2 encounters where I needed flash player but nothing major.
Finally android beam! I have tried it with my nexus 7 works wonders. Much faster then ICS and more options including video, pictures, and contact sharing with just a close up and a click.
So that pretty much sums my 2 week experience with my nexus and jelly bean and this experience is wonderful I could not ask for better except Flash player!!!!!!!!,
Enjoy your jelly beans everyone!!!!

[Q] Volume booster for KF on jellybean?

Has anyone found a good app to boost the volume on the kindle fire with jellybean installed? I've tried a few apps and none have any impact. I know jellybean fixed the flaw these apps were exploiting. Is there any way to boost the sound on jellybean on the KF?

any if not all of the jellybean roms are running some form of hashcode's kernel. he recently just put new drivers for the speakers in and mine are pretty loud half way. maybe factory reset and update your rom if needed
which rom are you using?
I'm on the stock 4.2.2 rom from february, put it on and had no issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041694 Verizon just released a streaming live TV app so sound is only just now something I care about to be honest.
I like everything just how it is I just would like more volume, if there's an updated stock rom I'd like to put that one for sure.

Its not just the Ouya, almost any device from 4.1 or before breaks if updated past 4.1.2.
This may not be a fix for everyone on android 4.3+ but for people with a PS3 sixaxis you might consider this: http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/about.html. It works on my 4.2.1 tablet and is suppose to have been updated to fix the 4.3 bug. AFAIK
Looks like this will be a problem preventing us to get Netflix HD as only 4.3 does the DRM handling the way the Netflix app expects....I started to hate Netflix so much as they seem unable to get their acts together on any platform - either DTS is missing, or HD missing or both...
Maybe they need to hire some developers...
I heard that the next Ouya will come out with an updated operating system and no updates for this generation..

[Q] Realistically, is CM usable or am I better off installing Play Store with Stock

I just got the 8.9 and I am wondering if I should bother to install CM or just keep it stock and install the play store? What advantages / disadvantages would I have for both? Also if I am rooted can I still use Amazon services if I stay on stock? I really wanna watch prime movies / rent from the kindle library. I know I will lose this if I go on CM

If you root, you will lose no functions of the stock KFHD. Rooting just gives you access to the roots of the system allowing you to add/remove what you please. Adding Google Play (Gapps) just adds those APK's to the system so you can use them. Again, this effects nothing as far as the stock KFHD goes.
Installing any custom ROM will remove the ability to watch prime movies, loose the lending library and any audio books that are not backed up to an audible account.
This was no big to me because I can watch the prime movies on the ROKU, I don't borrow books and had my audible books backed up. A custom ROM is so much better and faster. Sky's the limit for customizing. That choice is yours.
Because I use some of the stock functionality, I went with rooting.
Then installed Go Launcher and set it up as my default launcher.
Installed LMT Launcher to replace the default softkeys.
Changed a config file to remove the softkey bar
Installed Thumbkeyboard from the Google Play (purchased for a previous device), a much better keyboard than stock.
All this took quite of bit of searching around for different tweaks, but I have an experience thats closer to Android, while retaining access to
the Kindle Carousel as an app, so I can access Prime and the lending library.
My point is, if you can define how you're going to use your Kindle, you have a lot of options.

I've just bought a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G on eBay.
Is there a noob's guide to installing non-Amazon ROMs? I just want it to be a standard Android tablet. I've looked through dozens of posts, but I seem to be going round in ever-decreasing circles and will soon disappear up my own USB port

Pure android Kindle
May I suggest you check out a company called N2Aos. They have developed a
version of CyanogenMod 10.1 especially for the Kindle. They will even perform the upgrade for you remotely. The cost is 20 dollars US. I had this done about a month ago and I now have a fully functioning, pure android tablet. I, sir, am a very happy camper.
And no, this is not a paid endorsement!

He is looking for the 8.9lte which they can't have because Hashcode is still developing it. For free people can do it themselves. Damn paying someone else.

I believe N2AOS works on LTE models as well. I don‘t know what Hashcode has to do with it. As a senior member, you must remember that many of us may not be as experienced or as talented as you are. Or, as in my case, although I‘ve been involved with computers for over 50 years, my brain no longer functions as well as it once did. For example, I've been working on this message for almost 30 minutes. Old age kills. Have a nice day.

Hascode matters because his code is the original and only kernel for the Kindle Fire HD series tablet because there was only one exploit for the Kindle Fire HD models. All other ROM's use his kernel as a starting point and fork from it. Hashcode is still trying to get the 8.9lte ROM done right and has not got to the point to where everything works proper. If he has not, it's probable N2AOS can not be there yet either. That is why my statement about the 8.9lte.
