Hi All ,
Want to get a cheap tablet as already own HTC Desire HD and just want to try Android at bigger screen ...
after searching found that Kindle Fire is the cheapest tablet that i can get but also found some problems related to few limitations Amazon added to it's tablet but also found that there is a solution for that problems
i will use it in Browsing , Facebook , Twitter and other normal stuff ,,, don't need a super performance
also noticed that there is other ROM's for the devices and already tried MIUI and CM7 at my Desire HD and was good so i guess using other ROM will solve most of Kindle Fire problems
another question ,,, is there any Honeycomb or ICS ROM for it either officially or by developers
Thanks a lot and waiting your help and if there any other tablet with good spec and good price that will be better than KF let me know plz
maybe you want to take a look at this thead:

Yes, there is unofficial CM-7 ROM and CM-9 for kindle Fire. CM-7 is more stable and all features are running. CM-9 is also fairly stable but some features are still under development such as HD.
I am running CM-9 for almost more than three weeks in daily bases as the main ROM.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
Please note there are other Android tablet with more features such as external SD card and 3G network with a reasonable additional money if KF spec does not meet you requirement.
I forget to mention in my previous note that the blue youth is not enable on the stock ROM. Development is underway to enable it on CM7 and CM9.

Thanks all for your quick help
is installing other ROM like MIUI make it a full functional ROM with all video playback - using MX Video as example - and Full music player either it's MIUI player or other one ?
does using other ROM like MIUI or CM remove all limitations and allow me to install apps and games and whatever i want ?!
i guess MIUI based on 2.3.7 is stable enough for daily use and there is MIUI ICS ROM for it and Stock ICS ROM also was available while i was searching
i guess MIUI will be great on it
The Question is : Does Removing Stock ROM And Installing MIUI , CM , ICS Ports To It Convert It To Normal Tablet With All Android Functions ?
Thanks again all

Yes. I'm on CM7 and have full Android experience. Of course, no BT, no ext card. And you will lose some Amazon goodies, but anyway most of them are useless if you are not in States

If you just want it for Facebook, twitter, porn, ect... then the Fire will do you good. For $200 you really can't go wrong. Anyone know if it's possible to get the web browser from CM9 to run on CM7? I just like the way it's setup more.
Just flashed CM7 on my KF and couldn't be happier!!!! Seriously, it's an amazing tablet, especially for $199. As Morrison79 stated above, you really can't go wrong.
Does other browser like opera , firefox , dolphin hd working good ??
also what about MX Video Player , it's the best video player i have ever used , does it work good with KF ?
i know that it's for 200$ it's an amazing tablet and already like MIUI and CM Rom and have no problem in using any as my main ROM

Yes all three of those browsers work great on Cyanogenmod 7... I loved the ICS browser so much that I did not try them though I do not know about video player sorry..
Have the Fire and 32gb HP Touchpad...I have CM9 on the touchpad and like it better over the KF. But for travelling and on the go the KF comes with me most of the time due to the smaller size.
Paid almost the exact amount for the KF and Touchpad.
Hi all ,
As i have a friend now in US that can grab the KF for me ,, shall i get one or wait for ASUS Google Nexus Tablet ???

Some of the ICS Roms look very stable and have very little bugs that are minor

if you find something I posted helpful please thank me
I use CM9 as my daily now. Currently using the Energy ROM w/ Hashcode's June-8 kernel and it is solid as a brick. Minor issues: It seems the ROM has regressed regarding recognizing ad hoc networks (for tethering). Some other ROMs appear to support ad hoc networks. Auto brightness doesn't work yet in this ROM, either.
Those are the only issues I can find right now and I use it every day. I give it the "Daily" seal of approval!

So you all recommend that i get the Kindle Fire , Remove The Stock Firmware , Install Miui/CM9 and enjoy a dual core tablet for 200$ till the Quad Core Tablets are released ,,,
Any issue with common Applications or Games or every thing is just working fine ?
Most of use will be Movies , Games , Internet , Music
I play MassEffect Infiltrator, FLCommando on my kindle quite often. Both run without a hiccup.
I don't know how far in future a new/better deal is going to come out but right now this is as good as it gets. And you must come to grips with the fact that sooner or later something better is inevitably going to come out. Doesn't mean you should regret your decision to go with the kindle. It is a bargain at $200 after all.

I have a kindle fire, running ICS (gedeROM v1.55).
It works great. Music, videos, games, internet, Google apps & store.
Definitely don't think it would be a mistake getting this tablet if you just can't wait any longer.
But with the nexus tablet is likely to be announced by end of month, I would wait just a bit longer to weigh options.

I don't count on it ever working, but I put playon on mine and it works pretty much perfectly. You can install it on your computer then you are basically steaming but you have Netflix, Hulu CBS,tbs comedycentral, syfy and the list goes on.You can try it out for a couple of weeks for free and then if you want to keep it they are pretty cheap and have several ways to subscribe, from monthly, yearly and even a one time payment for a lifetime subsciption.Anyway I got tired of waiting and got it on sell and haven't looked back.It is more than you can imagine and you can use it on PS3.Xbox,Wii,and several blueray players.Pretty much anything that is DLNP capable .
Anyway didn't mean to ramble but hope this helps.
There is a netflix app available without the checks and already signed. Most have said they can get it running in a gingerbread rom. I haven't been able to get it working on the A7's rom however.

I had installed the cracked version on my Evo4G and Evo3D, and it installed on the A7 but would never work.
I always ignored the "there is a newer version available" message until I read your post. Works like a charm now... Resolution seems like it sucks a little, but that may have just been the movie I tested with.

On my completly factory A7+ I got netflix working only through an account on amazon
Still can't find way for un modified A7+ to get HBO GO
more to point. I cant get netflix audio (or any audio) through hdmi on my ~5 yr old Insignia HD TV, is it possible adjusting stream quality will solve the no audio? I tried it on a new 55" Toshiba and audio/video work perfect (and wow, a 3' tall angry bird is cool)
This has been answerd in old threads as, "some tv's audio works, some don't"
Any new fixes?
Anyway to put screen to sleep while still streaming through hdmi?
I got a kindle fire for my mother. Wondering what the best course of action would be. Looking for a rom that i can install and not worry about updates, so as stable as possible. i was looking through and it seems like there is a netflix bug with the 3.0 roms? that is a bit of a deal breaker. can i get the play store and everything just with root?
can someone at elast tell me if there are any bugless roms? actually a couple bugs are fine, but i think no netflix kills it.
Have you a considered leaving it like it is? There's a lot to be said for the stock ROM for Moms and suchlike.

I agree, the stock rom is pretty hard to "F" up through normal usage.
Just my opinion, I had the same decision to make on my wife's, so I flashed the MoDaCo 6.3 and she didnt even know, except that you can tell by some downloded apps icon's resolution not showing great. But she is OK with that. Also, keep in mind that she doesn't watch movies on the Fire.
I have no problems on ics roms with Netflix. Once you mod the build.prop it will work. For her, I would go with modaco though. Everything works, and it feels like an Amazon device.

I'd say keep it stock too. If she has issues with it, then you can try a rooted rom then.
i just stayed with stock 6.3 and rooted and added the play store with go launcher...can't beat it...
i have no problem keeping it stock. i haven't looked into it too much. but mainly I just need to be able to side load apps, movies, music and books. I just assumed it wasn't possible with stock. the play store would be very nice too, but i'm almost positive that isn't possible stock. plus i'll be doing any tech support so i'd rather her have a nice ics rom that i know well.
i also just noticed aokp is officially supported, i didn't realize. I've got that on my phone and tablet. but there is no thread for the fire on rootzwiki, so i can't really tell what kind of bugs there are. anyone using aokp m5?
getting the play store on stock is possible cause i have it on mine, have you check xda for the aokp m5....you stay this is for your mother,i just leave it stock then cause the ics maybe a little confusing for her....ics is more advance in customization, don't get me wrong about ics...it's good, but there is always problems and it's not yet 100%...good luck in your journey...
So I got a kindle fire for my mom for mother's day...need some advice though. *Keep in mind that she used to use a touchpad running CM9, but recently broke her screen...
With that said, she also did occasionally need help with ICS. That *may* have simply been bc cm9 wasnt entirely stable on the touchpad at the time (wifi issues, occasional reboots, etc.)...do you suggest that I give her AOKP/CM9 on her Kindle Fire, or should I just leave it stock? She mainly used the touchpad for reading, simple gaming (puzzle games mainly, angry birds, etc), email, and web, basic news apps (last I know of was Google Currents).
I know most ppl suggest that stock is fine for basic users, but just wanted some other suggestions in my case, since she's coming from a CM9 touchpad...albeit she did not use ics to it's fullest IMO.
Thanks

If she's only going to be using it for that stuff then I say go with the MoDaCo Gr8 ROM. It's stable, fast, and has Google Play.
If you want ICS then go with Energy or gedeROM.
Thanks for the suggestion...I did see that, but I wonder how any of Amazon's auto-updates may affect it? I do not live nearby, so if somehow her firmware gets autoupdated, and it breaks things (mainly GAPPS I would assume), I wouldn't be able to fix it asap...I don't want to set false expectations
i would stay on stock with root, with most of the roms not being stable and you don't live close...then stock is best,i'm on stock 6.3.1 with root...if it does updated the only think is she looses root and that very easy to get back...i'm using go launcher and over clock to 1.2 ghz....all i think one would need for basic things...

I'd recommend AOKP Milestone 5. Remember to remove the unicorns.
HOWEVER, the recovery is extremely easy to get to, and the last time my grandmother accidentally went into recovery she wiped the entire system. Flash stock recovery if possible.

I just got my mother a kindle fire and put MoDaCo Gr8 on it because I figured it would be the best of both worlds: Play Store with no updates but stock Amazon functions intact (only way to still play Amazon Prime Video, which you get free for first month). She also lives to far away for me to maintain it for her, so I decided on MoDaCo because some folks said it is immune to updates. However after reading through the MoDaCo ROM thread, I see that previous versions were not immune to updates and nobody has talked about this version being immune to updates, but some are renaming the file etc/security.otacerts.zip to be doubly sure it will be immune to updates (you dont want updates because it breaks root and Play Store). A few folks who have MoDaCo Gr8 did NOT rename this file and report that they did not get the update.
I would highly suggest the MoDaCo Gr8 ROM because it is really nice, stable, optimized, stock, has location services, rooted with Play Store and other Google services, and possibly immune to updates, but do what I failed to do when I sent mine off to my mother and rename that etc/security/otacerts.zip file. Then I think you can be reasonably sure it will be immune from updates.
You can install GO Launcher, make it the default launcher, configure a wallpaper and lock it (with KFU), and add a shortcut back to "Launcher" (kindle fire launcher) which will launch the stock looking kindle fire interface like an app... home button always brings you back to GO... this way it feels like a fully unlocked android tablet.... VERY SLICK!
something i cant seem to figure out please excuse my ignorance in advance. so i flashed gede rom for example but i use the kindle with amazon's stuff such as newspaper subscriptions that update everyday, amazon's video streaming and so forth running a rom i basically have an android tablet without the amazon features ? can i still have those same amazon capabilities with a rom or do i need to go back to stock?
is there a launcher or app that i can use ?
thanks in advance for any help/ advice
the amazon apps dont work on any ics roms
if you want the best of both worlds (albeit gingerbread-based like the amazon system), look at the modaco rom
you may be able to workaround some of the issues, e.g. you can use amazon video via flash in a browser, use the amazon kindle app, etc
ahha okay i understand now ok great thank you so much i really appreciate it !!

If you root, you will lose no functions of the stock KFHD. Rooting just gives you access to the roots of the system allowing you to add/remove what you please. Adding Google Play (Gapps) just adds those APK's to the system so you can use them. Again, this effects nothing as far as the stock KFHD goes.
Installing any custom ROM will remove the ability to watch prime movies, loose the lending library and any audio books that are not backed up to an audible account.
This was no big to me because I can watch the prime movies on the ROKU, I don't borrow books and had my audible books backed up. A custom ROM is so much better and faster. Sky's the limit for customizing. That choice is yours.
Because I use some of the stock functionality, I went with rooting.
Then installed Go Launcher and set it up as my default launcher.
Installed LMT Launcher to replace the default softkeys.
Changed a config file to remove the softkey bar
Installed Thumbkeyboard from the Google Play (purchased for a previous device), a much better keyboard than stock.
All this took quite of bit of searching around for different tweaks, but I have an experience thats closer to Android, while retaining access to
the Kindle Carousel as an app, so I can access Prime and the lending library.
My point is, if you can define how you're going to use your Kindle, you have a lot of options.

May I suggest you check out a company called N2Aos. They have developed a
version of CyanogenMod 10.1 especially for the Kindle. They will even perform the upgrade for you remotely. The cost is 20 dollars US. I had this done about a month ago and I now have a fully functioning, pure android tablet. I, sir, am a very happy camper.
And no, this is not a paid endorsement!

I believe N2AOS works on LTE models as well. I don‘t know what Hashcode has to do with it. As a senior member, you must remember that many of us may not be as experienced or as talented as you are. Or, as in my case, although I‘ve been involved with computers for over 50 years, my brain no longer functions as well as it once did. For example, I've been working on this message for almost 30 minutes. Old age kills. Have a nice day.

Hascode matters because his code is the original and only kernel for the Kindle Fire HD series tablet because there was only one exploit for the Kindle Fire HD models. All other ROM's use his kernel as a starting point and fork from it. Hashcode is still trying to get the 8.9lte ROM done right and has not got to the point to where everything works proper. If he has not, it's probable N2AOS can not be there yet either. That is why my statement about the 8.9lte.
