[Q] 3G network not working after drop - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I would like to ask for help and/or any suggestions that might lead to the solution of this problem.
Basically I was skating and had an accident and the screen cracked, which i got replaced, but then at the same time the network was connecting and disconnecting continuously. It sometimes shows the bars like there is good signal but i cant make calls or send texts, as soon as i try it shows a cross and no signal.
I tried everything from factory reset to changing the Radio/RIL to changing the rom. After a while I switched it to GSM only and it worked!!! So now the phone works on "2G" only which is annoying as the internet is quite slow. But as soon as i switch to Auto between GSM/WCDMA it goes back to doing that problem.
I would appreciate any suggestions, It might a damage to the mother board, but everything seems to run brilliantly on the phone.

Hi I've encounter the same accident too, but luckily I'd use casemate barely there, so it proof had protect my phone. You may need to sent for repair, as it sound so serious.

run an RzrU on the phone and send it to HTC or your carrier for repair. Definitely one hundred percent hardware failure

Is the bottom plastic cover cracked from inside or damaged in any way?

[Q] Death grip

Hi everyone
I have this problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gu9oKlWq1Y
Anyone know how to solve this problem ?
Just as a disclaimer, every phone will lose signal if you grip it a certain way. Remember the iphone debacle?
But the quick fix is to just put a case on it. Your body will no longer interfere with the antenna and your phone will have the added bonus of surviving a fall.

Downside is cases tarnish the natural beauty of the phone that the cell phone manufacturers intended. I just take the risk. I would rather have a nice looking phone IMHO.
I already have this one http://www.otterbox.com/HTC-G2-/-HT...C4-G2XXX_color=20&start=1&cgid=desire-z-cases
gripping ANY phone tightly/awkwardly over the antenna will cause loss of signal. Some are worse than others, but it happens to any modern phone with an internal antenna. Cases help, but you're still going to be able to replicate it if you try hard enough. The phones are designed so that the antenna will more than likely not be blocked if you're holding it in any normal conventional way during regular use.
One usual culprit for the G2/DZ is the WiFi signal getting weaker when using the hardware keyboard, because your hands are covering the top and bottom of the device.
so isn't any idea to solve or help a little with this problem ?

Like I just said, there's nothing you can do other than just don't hold the phone in such a ridiculous way. You can't move the antenna inside the phone, it is where it is.
In normal use I highly doubt you'll ever see drastic signal drop because of the way you hold your phone. Nobody normally holds a phone in the way shown in the video.
So tell me how to play in gameloft games where all of them is in landscape mode

like I said, using the phone normally (yes even playing games in landscape) your signal shouldn't drop so low that you will be completely disconnected from the network. Don't get scared just because the bars drop.
But i already play at Order and Chaos and this game are also in landscape mode and unhappily i get lost connection every few minutes ;/ and the game has reconnecting.

There's nothing I can tell you. The antenna is where it is. If for some reason you're in a low signal area to start and you cover the antenna you're going to see loss of signal.
Tell me if i give back this mobile on warranty then they are able to solve issue ?

You're not listening. Every phone has this issue if you hold it in the right place. Its a cell phone with an antenna. Its just going to happen, there's nothing you or the manufacturer can do to "fix" it after the phone has been made.
I acutally thought this was a radio problem. I switched radios and noticed a slight improvement.

A radio update can help your signal a bit overall, but it will never remove the effect of strategically covering the physical antenna. What it would help with is a default low signal, that gets worsened to the point of disconnection from the network by covering the antenna (aka your normal signal could be higher, so that when it gets lessened it still stays connected).

Weird Issue with Sound

Hi all,
Been having some problems with my Defy's earpiece.
Abit of background, before it started acting up:-
1. Damaged the screen and LCD in a fall, phone could turn on but nothing visible on screen
2. Sent to repair in a mobile phone repair shop, they replaced the screen and LCD
Phone now works fine, but the earpiece works abit randomly. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to work more often when I receive calls, compared to when I make calls.
The only way I can make a call is by checking first whether the earpiece is working, by logging on to Skype and calling the Echo/Test Sound Service thing. If it's working at the time, then I can make the call as usual. If it's not working, I usually end up having to use the speaker, which works fine.
Is this issue likely to be due to manufacturing problems, or could it have been damaged (along with the screen and LCD) when I fell?
I got the phone in December 2010. I would take it into a T-Mobile store to see if the warranty covers it, but I have a feeling they might somehow know that I sent it elsewhere to get the screen and LCD replaced - I'm guessing this would void my warranty.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Would appreciate any help, thanks
They definitely know you'd sent the phone to another shop for repair. All phones having the warranty sticker sitting in the battery compartment. Now all you can do is pray they just go blindly repair your phone..

Hmm.. thanks, I might just bring it back to the shop that repaired the screen for me.. if it's too expensive then maybe I'll try change the earpiece myself..

i drop my DHD and its wifi dead

yesterday i dropped my DHD, and i realized the wifi stop working. when i turn on the wifi at settings, it just said "error", and wont detect mac address.
thingkng it just rom acting abnormally, i just reflashed over, aaand.. it still the same. so i factory reset, and it still the same. so i came with a conclusion that the wifi hardware must be broken, so i gave a try to 'knock' it and it works!
so after a small knock again my wifi dead again..
i wonder if it possible to nudge the wifi module, but i dont know where the module located,
the service centre said, they had to replace the main board and cost $145, duh!
anybody had tried to work with wifi antenae?
happened to me two days ago
Check to make sure your battery cover is on properly and not loose. I'm pretty sure that is the wifi antenna.

i'm not sure the battery cap has anything to do with this, but i'm pretty sure the battery cap was snap properly.
yeah, i hope someone had the clue how to nudge the antena,
The wifi antenna sits in the battery door, it's the little metal clip you can see in the door when taking out the battery.
You can try to fix yours if it's broken, or buy a new one on Ebay.
Hope it helped.

It happened the same to me, I repalced the battery cover and still no WIFI.
I tried using an APK named "FXR WIFI Fix and rescue" it fixed it, but after a day it was unable to connect again.
Looks like it's time to change my dear DHD
Duh, is it so hard to try for yourselves before giving an useless advice?
I just tried wifi with removed battery cover and it's scanning without giving any error.
gampangingats, if you are using Sabsa, it's still possible that this is a ROM issue, happened to me a couple of times, but system restart (full) always fixed it.
Right. This is a royal mess here, with everyone giving different ideas.
First ensure that both covers (battery door & bottom SIM/SD Card cover).
Then try a rock stable ROM (BlackICE, or something CM7 based is always good)
Then try the rooted stock ROM (search for it, its here somewhere)
Report back once you've done all that..
If not, go to the Ace Think Tank (in my signature) and post there. Resident HW expert Glevitan can help you out)

[Q] 3g problems after I dropped phone

I dropped my phone on some tiles and the screen cracked. Phone seemed to be working fine for a few days, but then it got into a reboot loop, as in rebooting again and again within a minute after last reboot. Tried recovery and recovered to another rom just to check, but still same problem. Found out that disabling 3g (only connect to 2g networks, in settings) ended the constant rebooting.
So what I wondered was is there something I can do to fix this? Replacement parts?? Flashing radio? Is there a chance 3g problems is NOT from dropping phone? I have no clue Just not that keen on spending lots of cash on a new phone
Btw, replaced the screen, 3g problem still there. (Knew those probobly werent related, duh )
Well, problem happened after dropping the phone, chances are its hardware. Check the battery cover sinc, and I believe, the antenna is located there and makes contact with that cover.
Sent from a dream.
Phone antenna is down part of cover were is sim and sdcard are. Maybe connectors or antenna or it's hardware problem. If it hardware problem then you maybe have to buy new phone.

[HELP] Poor reception after repair

So, A week ago, I broke my galaxy s4 successfuly damaging the LCD. No Big problem, Ordered a used LCD from e-bay and carefully took the old one off and installed this one. Boot up the phone and wallah! it works fine. EXCEPT! The stupid thing doesn't have reception half the time.
Sometimes its stuck on edge with full bars, sometimes its got 4gLTE but no bars, Sometimes its got a circle with a line through it saying no service and sometimes it has all bars and 4glte yet it still says searching...WEIRD.
So I tore apart the phone again up till the board and carefuly started inspecting everything , looked normal. Looked on the rear frame. A plastic piece where it says R1 was coming off, so I took it out completely and re-glued it back on. Turn the phone on and same thing. I did lose all the screws during the repair.... silly me lost the magnet they were stuck on and have not been able to find it. So unless the screws act as antennas which is possible, it is losing service all the time. I suspect the plastic piece where it says R1 is the problem and have ordered a new piece due to arrive on monday next week. The only problem is I just moved and am expecting quite a few calls for job interviews. Can't risk losing a great opportunity.PLEASE HELP ME WITH ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE!!!! thanks!

If you're having issues with the reception I recommend having a look at the micro USB/charging board. I swapped that part out before after breaking it and had horrible reception. I then purchased another one (actually meant for my phone) and all was well again.
