I edited the gps.conf file inside the V3 zip and flashed in clockwork mod. works great.

i put this in my ROM right from the start only i use the SONY servers because they work better (in my area at least). I can confirm it works
BTW, thanks for being a decent guy and sharing apparently a lot of people are not like that

Holy mother of god that worked amazingly...

Make sure you mount /system as read/write and not just read. I think most default to just read and you have to specify the write option/permission somewhere in the settings (at least with ES File Explorer).

To make the changes, I simply took the Vicious rom zip, opened it with Winrar on the PC. Went to the gps.conf file and opened with notepad. Pasted the changes, and choose file, then save inside notepad. Winrar will ask you if you want to save the changes back into the zip file. Choose yes. Upload the zip to the nexus, then simply flash it in clockwork.
As I was already running V3 of Vicious, all I did was wipe cache, then wipe delvik and flashed the modified rom.
I take no credit for this, simply was bored at work (everybody took off for the 4th)
When i get home I'll download the 4.0.4. stock toro image from google and see what the gps.conf file says.

This worked... im rocking V2 of VanirBean by jdkoreclipse...i was having issues with the gps not locating and locking on...(rocking V2 cause its stocky stock brah!) I used root explorer to edit the gps.conf remember you have to open it up as a text editor...anyways typed everything that OP had and saved and rebooted...cheers! awesome thanks.

You can get the stock jelly bean kernel in v3. You just have to flash it after you flash the ROM.

The only difference from the GSM jb rom is the first line, which is absent in GSM jb developer preview .

Still didn't work
I've also tried the GPS fix flash.
The hilarious part is that it always shows me at New York New York casino in Vegas when I'm actually in Houston, and has since Thursday night.

Would it be wise to edit this gpsconfig file right on the system folder of the ROM you are currently running? I'd reboot before I looked for any changes. I'm also running V2...trying to stay as close as possible to stock. (I'd love an exchange security disable though if possible)

if you reflash, try including the GPS fix from my thread by putting it in the .zip before you flash it. It's been working great for me on my rom, but seems to cause problems when added to an existing rom. I'd be curious to see if it works when included with the rom. Thanks

Gps.conf to us servers. Reminds me if old hd2 days lol
For those it isn't working for not sure what they are. But the hd2 had the same issue and some servers worked better for others. There is us servers, north America servers, and east and west coast. And other host sites

[Fix] Network Location Updates (Cell Towers)

If you are having trouble with your network locations (cell towers) updating in the background, breaking location-aware apps like Tasker and Llama, try rolling back the com.google.android.location.apk in /system/app to a version from an older build. I am currently on Calkulin's EL29 based ROM and this has finally solved my cell tower location updating issues. Using either Root Explorer or adb, copy or push the linked file below into /system/app, replacing your current version (which will either be networklocation.apk or com.google.android.location.cpk, depending on which ROM build you are using), then reboot. The cell tower history should update in the background once again.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7821039/ET4G/com.google.android.location.apk
The purpose of this fix has nothing to do with connectivity to cell towers. It is only to facilitate the reporting by the system of which cell tower you are currently connected to, and which towers you have been connected to, in order to enable location to be reported to applications on the device that rely on network location as opposed to GPS location. For example, this fix enables Llama to function perfectly for me, so it changes my sound profiles based on my current location. It will also allow weather widgets to correctly determine you current location based on cell tower location instead of GPS.
how long have you been using this and is it still working? i thought i figured mine out by changing the modemback to el26 but after a few days this morning it would not update. just hopeing this is going to fix it for good.

Interesting, as mine is actually called com.google.android.location.apk. I think the apk name changed somewhere along the line from this to networklocation.apk, which may actually coincide with when the functionality broke, but I have no way to confirm that right now.
very intersting, would be funny if that was the case. strange thing is i dont remember this being an issue with calks 1.7 rom which i believe was based off of el26. it started with el29 for me. but i could have just not noticed. i tried taking the apk from 1.7 but the version number was the same so i used the one you pulled. we will see what happens.
How are you guys copying this into the folder? I get error msg. When trying... So I have to delete Network Location.apk first?

I'm having the same problems using Astro when I try, any ideas? When I tried to rename it, I also got an error saying it was a read only file I believe.
EDIT: Nevermind, used Root Explorer and copied it after changing mount to R/W and it is fine. Then I installed it using the package installer in Root Explorer. Not sure if I should have done that or changed the name to the networklocation.apk and overwritten the old networklocation.apk, any ideas?
Thanks, really hope this works.
Do we need to rename the file? Or install it? Or just push via root explorer?

You do not need to rename the file or install it. Just replace the existing apk file (which would be called networklocation.apk or com.google.android.location.apk, depending on what ROM build you are on) it using root explorer, or push using adb.
I replaced the apk and now I get the following error each time I reboot:
Sorry!
The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

What I do on my ROMs is delete the camera.apk AND camera.odex file using root explorer (or some other good file system explorer).
Delete the camera sound files in this folder folder /system/media/audio/ui/: Cam_Stop.ogg Cam_Start.ogg camera_click_short.ogg Shutter_01.ogg VideoRecord.ogg
The push over the 'quite' camera.apk to the system/app folder (pick one from a previous ROM maybe the one posted here or Calkulin's or whomever - just try to keep it recent and of the same Android version ICS or GB).
Then set the permissions RWX-R-R
Then you'll have to reboot the phone for the camera to work to build the cache!
Once booted try launching the camera you may be told that media scanning is in progress, that's OK just wait a few minutes and try again.
Bam no camera sounds.
By the way a deodexed file will work on an odexed ROM. But the system will have to be rebooted and the application may be slow to start the first time while it builds the cache(s).
good guide.

Easy GPS fix for JB ROMs - 12/04 Updated

This is NOT my work. I found it in another forum and linked to in in the CNA JoyRide thread a couple of days ago. It works so amazingly I want to post it here for more to see. Original thread can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747943
Look for the gps.conf inside the system/etc folder. Make a backup copy of the original file if you prefer. Replace the content with these below and push it back to the system/etc folder. No need to even reboot and you can expect to get a GPS lock within seconds and it's very accurate!
NTP_SERVER=server 0.us.pool.ntp.org
server 1.us.pool.ntp.org
server 2.us.pool.ntp.org
server 3.us.pool.ntp.org

I did try flashing a stock ROM, update PRL &Profile and get a lock and then nandroid back. It worked at first and then stopped working. Tried that multiple times and it was so frustrating. My GPS was working after a clean install but stopped working after I set up my phone and installed a few irrelevant apps. I flashed the GPS fix zip but it didn't help either. The above method worked instantly, no need to make a zip and flash, just replace the file and it's done.
I'm not a dev so even if you tried it and it didn't work, I wouldn't know how to fix it lol. I'm only good at a little research and finding things that are already there. I have at least 6 or 7 people report back and said it worked amazingly on our phone, plus the people from that thread. So hope you enjoy it

Update:
Thanks g_ding84 for making this file and flashable zip. This should work in all JB Roms, TW based or AOSP Roms, and also reported to be working on TW based ICS Roms.
Premade file: http://d-h.st/i3i
Flashable zip: http://d-h.st/yRy
Replace the gps.conf file in system/etc folder or flash the zip in recovery.
Also this fix is included in g_ding84's rom you can check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993102

12/04 Update:
If the above didn't work for you, try replacing the content with these below. Clear data from the google map app, reboot.
NTP_SERVER=server 0.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=server 1.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=server 2.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=server 3.us.pool.ntp.org

Some said the first script had some incorrect format but it worked well for me in CNA and a lot of members reported back and said it worked great, too. However, after I installed the FK23 leak my GPS stopped working after a couple of days. I tried the first one but it didn't seem to work that well so I edited it, cleared data from google map, rebooted and got a lock within 10 seconds with an accuracy of 10 meters (about 33 feet). If you're on a stock ROM you can also update PRL and Profile after you change the file and then reboot. Let me know if it helps.
Here's the updated zip (Thanks a lot g_ding84)

But it also suggests you make a backup of the original file, so you might want to do that, too. :good:

Ok I flashed this earlier today. Everything's running great, it's fast responsive no lag, my CPU is deep sleeping like a bear in the winter. I'm loving it. Only problem I have is I'm getting an error when I try and download something from the play store....
I've tried wiping my play store apps data, didn't help, I even went so far as to reinstall the play store app manually, no go.... WTF, any ideas people...:banghead:
When the fu€k did we get ice cream?

I've had that same error when I updated to 4.3 on my Nexus 7. What I did to fix it was remove the Google Account under settings and login again and accepting the user terms and stuff again.
when i tried restoring in clockworkmod 6.0.3.3, recovery tells me that no files were found.
I put the extracted contents of the stock.rar into the clockworkmod\backup directory in the sdcard but no go
did the same in my internal and obviously, no go. am i missing something?
thanks for your work by the way!!

you will just need to put the folder which has the date format like the 1970.25 something not the folder name which has stock....

got it working thanks!
I was using this and noticed that the signal cuts off randomly then reconnects. I flashed the baseband.
Also the issue with downloading apps from the play store reappears. I would remove the account and re-add the account and it would fix the problem but then reappear.

what you can do is use root explorer or browser and go to system/apps and delete the playstore and reinstall it from the web or apk google it you shuold get a latest one... that will fix the issue ,
for signal I know the issue I will add a patch , its due to the increase in network throttle added so if signal gets a little weak it drops and tries to reconnect
What APN settings are you guys running to get LTE..?

I saw in the other xperia thread you asked if anyone wanted an aosp rom and its kinda funny but thats what i thought this rom was lol but stock meant factory stock not aosp.
Anyway, i think ppl would rather have you focus your energy on a an aosp one than a debloated lg one, tho both are important. The aosp one needs more work of course so yea. Looking forward to that network patch, thanks!

Phone and contacts Force Closing

I'm running the new 9.1 ROM with the new modem.
Everything was working great except I tried to download the new blacked out phone, but I screwed it up.
When I get a call the com.android.phone app FCs and I can't answer the call, when I try and place a call, it says CONTACTs has stopped responding.
Can anyone post the phone and contacts app that I can push to the system/app folder?
Thanks,

You already have it, it's inside the Wicked rom zip file you downloaded and flashed.
Open the Wicked rom zip file which you flashed and open the SYSTEM folder.
(if you don't have the zip file just re-download the wicked v9.1 rom)
Inside that folder there is a folder called APP, open that folder and scroll down until you see
"SecPhone.apk" copy/extract that file to you desktop and then push or copy it to your phones
internal/external sdcard or if you PUSH the file, push it to /system/app .
You will need a root capable file manager like root explorer to do the above.
Be sure to reboot the phone after you are finished doing the above.
Once that's done you will have the same phone (contacts/dialer screens) as you had when you
first flashed the rom.
Just in case you have an issue with it or its not working right be
sure to use the fix permissions options in cwm or twrp recovery.
The reason the blacked out phone did not work for you and caused all the issues
you are having with it is because its not compatible with the phone and or the rom.
Good luck!

Hey, thanks, I really appreciate it, can you confirm what the permissions are supposed to be?
or you could just flash the ROM again without wiping.

When you look at the permissions it should look like the diagram below.
R W R R
(an upside down backward "L")

.
Good luck!
Did you do a nandroid backup?
You might need to do a full wipe and flash ROM again if pushing SecContacts doesn't solved it.

Yeah, this isn't working.
I tried ripping out and replacing both the contacts and phone, changed the permissions, but it's still not working.
Is the phone app permissions the same?
****! Any other last ideas before I do a full wipe?

(there is only one app which needs to be copied back to the phone)
(it's filename is SecPhone.apk - the permissions are RWRR)
(there is no contacts.apk or any other filename which is needed)
Sorry I have no other ideas.
Good luck!
