Working GTalk with Video

Hey Guys,
Just got my SGS2 rooted (thx slayher!!) and the first thing I did was install TI backup, and tried installing GChat with video.... and it WORKS! So here's the basic steps that I took:
- ROOT!!!
- Install TI Backup
- Make a backup of the existing Talk 1.3
- Uninstall Talk 1.3
- Download GTalk with Video GAPPS file (http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-newtalk-signed.zip)
- Place that file onto the root of your SD Card
- Reboot into recovery (adb reboot recovery)
- Flash the gapps file
- Reboot!!
I just tested a call and it worked great! No upside down vids or any of that HTC bs
edit: try the attached gtalk2.zip instead and let me know if it's better. i just took the files from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316840. seems to work for me!

hmm. force closes on me.

Just did this. Video is flawless thus far.

im getting an FC when I switch to the back camera. Other than that, its working great. Thanks!

+1 Works great, but every time I switch to the back cam I get FC after about 2 sec. Which sucks because I use the back cam a lot more than the front.

If you got a backup of the old Talk 1.3 with Titanium Backup, just delete this newone and reinstall the old backup with TB tha should work.

Thanks OP. Has the FC issue been resolved?

The FC is annoying though if you're not switching between cameras, this is working fine.

try the new attachment in the OP and let me know if it works okay for you guys. i just took the files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316840 and put it in a flashable form.

all i get is a black screen from the other person and no sound

force closes every time
I've tried both the gapps and gtalk2 zips, but all i get is a force close when trying to open the application. I screwed up in that i didn't backup 1.3 before trying the new video-enabled version.
i installed the official clockwork mod from here:

then i installed the superuser app from here:
http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip
then i downloaded "super manager" from market and uninstalled the existing (1.3) gtalk.
then i installed the gapps version. that didn't work, so i tried the gtalk2 version. still not working.

do you have either the apk or a zip i can reinstall using clockwork? my current version of talk won't open (force close every time), and i did not create a backup.
i ended up flashing this rom to get rid of bloat and get the updated gtalk with video:

I also get a grey screen and no video. Don't get FC when switching to the back camera at least. I'm using the version that clamder provided.

yes, and since i didn't back it up, i wasn't able to restore it when the new app failed to launch

[Q] help with cleangb and marcusant speed up

so I am not sure where I went wrong and I have been reading some threads and trying what people are saying but I think I am making it worse.
I have
Clean Gb build 16
then I added in Marcusant speed tweaks
the first issue was that instead of showing up as Clean GB in the about phone it shows as Mar... Revival Rom
I was told I could just go in and change the name here so i tried. didnt work out as hoped I think I may have changed the wrong file because it still says the revivial one.
I wanted to update to the newest Clean GB so I said screw it and went to Clock work mod and Wanted to do a full restore.( i backed up just before installing the speed tweaks)
I got an error and it said md5 mismatch
So I figured I would just reinstall Clean Gb as the zip was still on my phone and I had also had done a titanium back up would install clean gb and use that
I tried to install it and got an error and it went to a wierd screen with a lil android guy and an exclamation mark.
Id like to get on Clan Gb latest build and not have to spend 10 hours re -setting up all my contacts and main page and stuff if I can
Any ideas here.
I guess my next step is to do the factory reset from clock work and try to install again??
O I do not have access to odin at this time

First there are 2 entries in build.prop that have Marcusant revival that need to be changed. You would edit the one in the zip and then reflash. You can get the exact lettering from CleanGB's build prop. The other issue sounds like you sd card is going bad or corrupted. You can back it up, reformat it and restore and try again.

I did it on my PC. It is so much easier to cut and paste across build.prop files.

Anything should work. I just checked and it defaults to Wordpad on my Windows 7 laptop.

These are the lines you need to find and edit:
ro.build.display.id=
ro.rommanager.developerid=
ro.modversion=
The 1st and 3rd are the ROM and the middle one is the email address ROM Manager uses for the developer.

My tweaks wouldn't cause an md5 mismatch of a backup or CWM to not work. Seems as if you need to re Odin Cwm. The only thing my tweak might do is break ROM manager . Just go manual.

Sorry If it sounded like I implied that I dont believe your speed tweaks did that. just found that issue when trying to use the back up.
Thanks for the info guys im stuck on this for now until I can buy a pc. I had been doing everything without pc. I have never odin-ed or anything so this will be all new

Just reflash your ROM to remove the fixes.

[Fix] Network Location Updates (Cell Towers)

If you are having trouble with your network locations (cell towers) updating in the background, breaking location-aware apps like Tasker and Llama, try rolling back the com.google.android.location.apk in /system/app to a version from an older build. I am currently on Calkulin's EL29 based ROM and this has finally solved my cell tower location updating issues. Using either Root Explorer or adb, copy or push the linked file below into /system/app, replacing your current version (which will either be networklocation.apk or com.google.android.location.cpk, depending on which ROM build you are using), then reboot. The cell tower history should update in the background once again.

The purpose of this fix has nothing to do with connectivity to cell towers. It is only to facilitate the reporting by the system of which cell tower you are currently connected to, and which towers you have been connected to, in order to enable location to be reported to applications on the device that rely on network location as opposed to GPS location. For example, this fix enables Llama to function perfectly for me, so it changes my sound profiles based on my current location. It will also allow weather widgets to correctly determine you current location based on cell tower location instead of GPS.

how long have you been using this and is it still working? i thought i figured mine out by changing the modemback to el26 but after a few days this morning it would not update. just hopeing this is going to fix it for good.

its called networklocation.apk. i renamed mine after i put in apps folder then rebooted,

Interesting, as mine is actually called com.google.android.location.apk. I think the apk name changed somewhere along the line from this to networklocation.apk, which may actually coincide with when the functionality broke, but I have no way to confirm that right now.

very intersting, would be funny if that was the case. strange thing is i dont remember this being an issue with calks 1.7 rom which i believe was based off of el26. it started with el29 for me. but i could have just not noticed. i tried taking the apk from 1.7 but the version number was the same so i used the one you pulled. we will see what happens.

How are you guys copying this into the folder? I get error msg. When trying... So I have to delete Network Location.apk first?

For what it is worth, I have everything (ROM, modem, etc) based of EL26 and I noticed the problem when I went to the EL26 from EG30. Llama is useless now, hope this works...

Llama works flawlessly for me again, which is why I posted this fix in the first place .

I'm having the same problems using Astro when I try, any ideas? When I tried to rename it, I also got an error saying it was a read only file I believe.
EDIT: Nevermind, used Root Explorer and copied it after changing mount to R/W and it is fine. Then I installed it using the package installer in Root Explorer. Not sure if I should have done that or changed the name to the networklocation.apk and overwritten the old networklocation.apk, any ideas?

You do not need to rename the file or install it. Just replace the existing apk file (which would be called networklocation.apk or com.google.android.location.apk, depending on what ROM build you are on) it using root explorer, or push using adb.

I replaced the apk and now I get the following error each time I reboot:

The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Make sure you update the permissions and reboot.

I'm working on it now, found a method that works for the E4GT, not too difficult. I'll post the solution soon if the op doesn't.

I'd also Love to know how you got it to work...I'm getting the same error (resource file downloading)...PLEASE HELP ME!!! I LOVE THIS GAME and like to be able to play it on my e4gt!! any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I can finally get my SF on....
You do have to get the PRO Version of ChainFire3D to install the Qualcomm Plugins... I did a search and got the plugins from here:

Still not able to get it to work.. I'm on miui.us not sure if that helps.. I got tit back files pushed to sdcard/backup, SF data folder pushed to sdcard/SF_IV_data, install wvga 480x800 or w.e for our phone, open titanium backup touch backup/restore, preferences, switch to get backup from sdcard/backup, find SF in the list, here's where I run into problem with the instructions. It says wipe data, then restore, however it only gives option to wipe data and backup as if there was nothing to restore yet since it hasn't been backed up.. obviously if I do backup, then I can wipe data and restore but that's not what it says in the instructions. It says specifically wipe data hen restore.. any help? When loading game it said failed to connect but after playing with it got it to say the data is corrupted and it asks me to re download it but fails to connect. I have miui.us 2.1.13, titanium backup pro, I even have chainfire 3d pro with all the plugins from power to nvidia to qualcomm.. gta works perfect without chainfire.. let me know if you've ran into same issue and if so how you fixed it .. I hope the rom doesn't have anything to do with it..

Will try right now! I'm assuming. Lear everything out n start from scratch then just reboot after installing then wipe n restore then run it.. ill let ya know if it does the job!

Ok, so I did try it.. I cleared everything out completely..
1) wiped data, deleted backup, uninstalled from tit back
2) rebooted
3) installed SF
4) moved tit back (3 files) to sdcard/titaniumbackup
5) restarted
6) found SF in tit backup and wipe data & restore
7) data already in /sdcard
8) restart again to be safe
9) run game = data on SD card corrupted re download? Which then fails lol..

Make sure you're not opening the file after installing, I'm using calks 2.8.1 ROM btw & I didn't "clear" the data with tibu, just restored after files were in place. I feel your pain, but if you follow the steps in the video link I posted EXACTLY you'll be playing some SF! I tried a similar method close to the steps you listed and had problems..followed the instructions in the vid (including the site mentioned for d-loading the files) to the letter and BAM.. it worked..HADOKEN!

Haha yea, I didn't run the game.. I went to approb, that's where I got te APk data files TB files etc.. I followed those steps exactly, some off thepiratebay and from another site.. so three different methods lol.. ill figure it out! I want it lol.. you know if it works with sixaxis?

Damn you've covered just about every approach man! Lol Keep pluggin' away, it'll happen! Haven't tried w/sixaxis yet, I've heard some are having issues with the controls not responding but I've been lucky, had zero problems so far.

Yeah im in the same situation as you. Ive tried everything. I dont have the pro chainfire though it still lets me load plugins. Is there more to just loading plugins that i need to do that the pro will let me. Also, what version of chainfire is everyone using?
Edit: yeah ive tried everything to get it to work. I get the white background

Lol yea.. I can't even get the white bg.. can you pm me the steps exactly you took to get the white screen? I can tell you where to get chainfire pro for free

Here's what I did to get it working:
1. Copy SF data to sdcard/SF_IV_data
2. Copy Tit back (3 files) to sdcard/titaniumbackup
3. Install ChainFire3D Pro
4. In ChainFire3D, install CF3D driver, it will reboot automatically
5. Go back to ChainFire3D, install Qualcomm Plugin
6. Still in ChainFire3D, go to Defaut OpenGL settings, Use plugin, and select the Qualcomm plugin you just installed.
7. Install SFIV apk, do not run
8. Go into Tit Backup, Backup/Restore, find and select SF IV, and select Restore
9. Start SF IV

Cyanogenmod 12 available

There's a post in the at&t Samsung Galaxy 3 original android development for cm12 running lollipop 5.0. I flashed it on my t999 and it works great. Just follow the flashing instructions and flash all the files they say to flash. Your welcome.

Well, I can't say anything. I'm working on porting cm11 from the Note 2 LTE to the S3. If that works, I'm porting cm12 to the s3, hopefully.

Yeah it's an alpha build so the bells and whistles of cm features aren't available. It's basically just a working version of 5.0. As time goes on they will add the bells and whistles.

Its actually an almost perfect build for me... Only issue is camera and contacts fc when a synced contact's name is more than one word.... Even had faster GPS lock than 4.4 roms...
Don't seem to miss cm features as I don't use much... Just probably on screen buttons and skip tracks with volume button is what I'm missing

Running this on my phone. It was kind of wonky at first but after 2-3 wipes/flashes this is the best ROM I have ever run on this phone.
If you get tons of force closes, no root, and can't seem to download anything wipe and re flash.
As of now everything is working for me(including the camera using nexus camera).

Test builds V4 is running great, ive been running it for 2 days and ive had 0 FC's! just camera doesnt work, but you can download an alternate camera from the play store (nexus camera or camera zoom FX works for me). All you have to do before flashing is modifying the "updater script", open and edit the updater script and just replace all "d2att" with "d2tmo", save changes. Do a clean flash. I use the usual apps (fb, tw, whatsapp, a couple basic games) and everything works well. I dont use any apps that use the camera (vine, instagram, etc) so I cant report on those. No need to flash a kernel or different radio.

V5 is working fine for me. Everything works except video recording(pictures work with Nexus Camera) and cast screen on Chromecast. I tried the fix for the Nexus 7 but it disconnects immediately.

I tried editing the update script using root explorer, and it did the editing. however, when I moved/copy and paste the edited update script back to the Rom zip, it would move the original/unedited update script. So this is what I did: I extracted the update script and edited with root explorer, then I emailed the edited update script to myself, then I open the rom with 7-zip on my computer and replaced the original update script with the one I edited, saved the zip to my desktop. I then proceed to flash and it worked perfectly.

I rather not, for some reason the guy who put together the zip took down the thread and his account is suspended, who knows what happened. Its very easy to modify tho, give it a try.

i took a day or so by finally got my son s3 working

The current build is build 5 dated 11/25. It works better than build 4. You can use a few different cameras but stock camera still not working right. If you use Philz touch recovery you don't need to modify the script, it will flash just fine. It will say your phone is an i747 but that is just cosmetic it changes nothing with functionality like data or calls, etc. Because this is just a software rom and doesn't change anything hardware specific. Enjoy.

Where is the download link? I have been looking all over the place for CM12 on T999

I tried changing all the d2att to d2tmo and it is all changed but when I try to flash it, it gets a couple fail messages about mounting something and then I try to reboot it gets stuck in bootloop.
When I try to flash without changing the d2att it won't even flash.

Anyone got V5?
