AOSP is clean system. It's just how you would remove CM9 and there left only system - Android 4.0
AOKP is like CM9, almost the same, but it is more customizable than CM

I'm not sure what does it mean, but I think it might mean 'unofficial' or it means that rom is built from sources. I don't know. Correct me
In-topic: A KANG project means to take somebody else's work and put it to good use. From the word gank(ed).
Off-Topic: safariking I sent you a PM with the problems in your ROM you might want to fix in V8.
Regards
Can you change themes in AOSP with Theme Chooser? If not, then this ROM will quickly become very boring imo. Tbh, I'm looking forward to AOKP more than anything if CM9 will be abandoned.
I think the ICS theme is just fine, probably why I've stuck to CM7.2 Miracle Edition for so long.
But in all honesty I'm tired of GingerBread and just want a functional ICS with full hardware acceleration. That means no cheating with a half-***ed camera app and the ability to watch HQ YouTube videos and regular videos, period.

So I know what AOKP and AOSP both stand for, but I'm not quite sure what they are. What makes it so that some ROMs called themselves AOSP but others don't? I thought AOSP just meant Android Open Source Project... so wouldn't every ROM be an AOSP that isn't the stock Sprint ROM?
Another question I have is about Android 4.0.4. From my understanding, most ROMs are Android 4.0.3. But if the Sprint leaks are all 4.0.3, where are people getting 4.0.4 from? What are the major differences anyways?
Sorry for the noob questions. I've just been wondering for awhile and whenever I search, I can never find a good description asides from what the acronyms AOKP and AOSP stand for.
Most roms that call themselves AOSP are made to look as close as possible to stock android. Also, the reason we are able to have Android 4.0.4 roms is because those roms are ports from other devices rather than built straight from the leaks. The only noticeable difference between 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 is better battery life.

Ohh makes sense, thanks. What about AOKP then? Would that be everything else? I always heard that Kang meant to either improve on someone's ideas or steal it.
AOSP is straight up Android, no manufacturer over lay (TouchWiz, Sense, Blur). The AOSP roms tend to have a lot more tweaks and customizability since they are built from Android source, and our devs, as generous as they are, like to include goodies for us to make our phones as cool as possible.
AoSP (aokp,cm9,codename) are built from Google's source repos. This is also where 4.0.4 is from, its the next update for ICS with many bug fixes including video(Netflix,YouTube) and video in browser working, as well as many other numerous bug fixes within the code. The manufacturers have 4.0.3 have already put alot of work into it and will continue using it as their base until they have the initial release out then will start merging 4.0.4 into their upstream, to be included I'm the next round of OTA's. Anything 4.0.4 is AOSP meaning pure android no 3rd party manufacturer UI such as TouchWiz(Samsung),Blur(Motorola),or Sense(HTC). AOSP is what ships on the Nexus line, also called the Google experience.

Kang does mean stolen code. AOKP is a rom built by a group that likes to call themselves Team Kang.
Makes a lot of sense, thanks everyone! Never knew that aosp was a customized vanilla rom

Android is open source meaning no one owns anything, its all shared under the Apache license. So technically no one is stealing anything, a Kang is using other developers code and either adding your own onto it or combining multiple sources to make the existing code better

I have a quick question, why do I have to go back to a rooted EL26 to flash AOKP/AOSP? Why can't I use the current recovery like rouge recovery? Is it not the same?

I believe it is to avoid bricking of phones. Ics rouge is known to brick phones so that's why you can't flash using well not recommended

EL29 is a repacked version of CWM, ICS flashes are most successful on bare CWM. You go to EL26 (a stock CWM) to help prevent issues, its the safest route to (and from) ICS

I never said anything about how the word Kang applies to Android. In general it means stolen code but in this case it means improving on the source code.

Which of them is best is matter of preference. Each person will appreciate something different about any ROM, so the best advice is try all of them and pick which is best for you. At present they are all based on Arco's CM9, and I prefer that.

Oh, okay.. I prefer to choose a ROM that's not much of bugs, could you suggest me which ROM?
Because when I read each of ICS ROM thread comment's it's confusing me to choose which is almost stable ROM because of the bugs
By the way thanks for answering
wrong section dude! you should ask in general section. not in development. btw, all others ICS rom will be updated according to arco cm9
I would pick CM9, its since the others just use CM9 as a base while the others are great I find using the pure CM9 much better.
No bugs? Go back to gingerbread. No ICS can give you that yet. Please do know that ICS development for Galaxy Wonder is still on alpha stage. And also post appropriately. This is development section.
Sorry I'm new on creating thread
And I don't mean with no bug, I said with not plenty of bugs
Okay thanks for the answers guys, just asking, sorry for posting in a wrong section

yeah. pure CM9 is better. I have once tried Paranoid, it was pretty good too. it is more customizable than pure CM9 (I think you knew it). Im currently using CM9 build 6 which is pretty stable. the other ROM are based on CM9 build 5 anyway. so, you know the rule, build 6 is better than build 5 (literally), but in some case, it upside down. just flash any ROM. you will find your own answer.

Wow! ARCO has a tough job! Kudos to him! We patiently await the results of his hard work.
Umm, this may be unusual request but I really love AOKP and I wasnt really able to enjoy it much because of Sim card issues and No camera.
Ben did a great work porting it but unfortunately he had to move on to other projects. :crying:
I would be happy to see a good and stable (atleast like CM9 ) AOKP.
Can someone pick it up from where he left off and fix these two issues?

Yeah I was aware of that but don't you think AOKP on ICS will be much more stable than JB?
Maybe JB is in an early stage and it's hard to predict but I wanted a AOKP ICS ROM which could function properly on my phone.

(project) LLAMA
Website: www.projectllama.tk
Features so far:
- AOKP Settings/Customisation options
- Modified bionic for Camera fixes
- Modified msm7k common for GPS fixes
- Protips widget
- Flip-to-loudspeaker, etc. app called "PhoneMotion"
- Project Llama music player (pinata)
- Project Llama launcher (slingshot)
- Unique wallpapers designed by me (they're better than you'd think)
- Advanced settings app, music settings, etc.
The idea is for this to be packed full of features, run AOKP settings and fix all the annoying little things I didnt like when using CM or AOKP.
I am trying to throw everything I know into this ROM, I have arranged things behind the scenes with other developers to have this ROM built from source with modified device trees as well as other developers to have a Gerrit server and web server for the project. If you are interested in this project and wish to help me develop it then please contact me or just post on this thread.
Oh yeah, and Ivan is helping me a bunch
There is no download link as of yet, as I am still preparing stuff before a clean compile. This is also why I have been playing about with CM10 to try and get a clean compile of that, so I know the device tree works for project llama.
I also need a graphic designer if anybody's interested in designing wallpapers, bootanimations or themes for the ROM.
The devices that will most likely to be supported are:
* HTC Wildfire S (GSM)
.....(maintainer: Benjamin Gwynn)
* HTC Salsa
.....(maintainer: Benjamin Gwynn)
* Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM)
.....(maintainer: Ivan Brazza)
* HTC ChaCha
.....(maintainer: Lucas Arran)
Other devices that might be supported are:
* HTC Wildfire S (CDMA)
* HTC One V (GSM)
* HTC One V (CDMA)
* HTC Evo 3D (GSM)
* HTC Sensation
The reason this ROM is different is because it's a mix of stability from CyanogenMod, speed from RobotoMod and SlimBean and features from AOKP.
Gerrit currently isn't working for us, so if you wish to patch something, use pull requests for now
https://github.com/ProjectLlama
Please do not ask for a ROM download! It'll be ready when it's ready, a lot of testing needs to be done first, don't ask to test, we'll test internally
If you can speak another language then please say bellow
All other projects (besides CM10 for the marvel and CM10 for the icon_g) have been suspended in way for this.
Thanks to Eoghan for his server hosting!
IF YOU WANT TO HELP BUT CAN'T DEVELOP, PLEASE DONATE INSTEAD. WE DON'T NEED TESTERS UNLESS SPECIFIED.
Our new website is here: www.projectllama.tk

aokp/cyanogenmod/miui = all are based on aosp (android open source project).

so, yeah, miui is aosp based, but then tell me, why does miui support nearly every device that cyanogenmod does? they "solve" stuff, yeah, but the harder parts they lurk around waiting for cm team to do the job.
they dont even put out their source.

Simply not true! When one doesn't know, one should keep their mouth shut.
MIUI V.4 is based and many different roms. The one for SGS2 is based a a regular heavily themed Touchwiz rom. No official MIUI-rom is based on CM anymore a few unofficial though. You can even see it inside the roms, cause everything in the framework can't be themed and certain parts of the default graphics is still sadly there.

not entirely true since most manufacturers contribute code to aosp, google merges a great part of aosp into its internal trees and vice versa, and that is what the vendors get to build their frameworks on. so from a certain point of view, it's all aosp based. this is the base for the android ecosystem.

At least you'll have to differentiate between MIUI v2 and MIUI v4.
Everyone knows MIUI v2 (Gingerbread) is based on CM, that's why it was so good in both performance and features. But since ICS came out, MIUI v4 is built on AOSP, that's the reason there are less features in MIUI v4 and the performance is noticeably worse when compared to MIUI v2. A simple example is CM has "volume rocker skip track" since ages but MIUI v4 still doesn't have it. And it's one of the "most wanted" features by the users

Sure, but my point is, if they have to cherry-pick it then the assumption that MIUI v4 is based on CM would be strange... no?
