Is it based on AOSP or CM? I want to say AOSP but I can't quite remember.

cyanogenmod
aokp/cyanogenmod/miui = all are based on aosp (android open source project).
MIUI v2 is based on CM
MIUI v4 is based on AOSP or stock ROM for each model
Gingerbread was CM, but they moved to AOSP.

yeah, right.
"based on stock roms for other devices". what other devices? source isn't available for non-nexus devices, only kernel which is gpl.
so, yeah, miui is aosp based, but then tell me, why does miui support nearly every device that cyanogenmod does? they "solve" stuff, yeah, but the harder parts they lurk around waiting for cm team to do the job.
they dont even put out their source.
miui it's cyanogenmod based, as far as i'm concerned.

Simply not true! When one doesn't know, one should keep their mouth shut.
MIUI V.4 is based and many different roms. The one for SGS2 is based a a regular heavily themed Touchwiz rom. No official MIUI-rom is based on CM anymore a few unofficial though. You can even see it inside the roms, cause everything in the framework can't be themed and certain parts of the default graphics is still sadly there.

not entirely true since most manufacturers contribute code to aosp, google merges a great part of aosp into its internal trees and vice versa, and that is what the vendors get to build their frameworks on. so from a certain point of view, it's all aosp based. this is the base for the android ecosystem.

See my post above. It's just because CM supports almost all devices out there. If one created a ROM for a phone which CM supports, does it mean his ROM is also CM-based? :silly:

At least you'll have to differentiate between MIUI v2 and MIUI v4.
Everyone knows MIUI v2 (Gingerbread) is based on CM, that's why it was so good in both performance and features. But since ICS came out, MIUI v4 is built on AOSP, that's the reason there are less features in MIUI v4 and the performance is noticeably worse when compared to MIUI v2. A simple example is CM has "volume rocker skip track" since ages but MIUI v4 still doesn't have it. And it's one of the "most wanted" features by the users

Sure, but my point is, if they have to cherry-pick it then the assumption that MIUI v4 is based on CM would be strange... no?
Are you all retarded? Miui is built from the ground up using aosp. Most builds you see for devices are unofficial ports. Go to miuis website if you want to see official devices.

So right now the awesome developers are working on the ICS SDK Port, and CyanogenMod 9, which has not been released to the public, is also being worked on for the Epic and is actually more functional than the ICS SDK Port. What is the current status on the development of the ICS port and CM9? Are there other ICS-based projects being worked on, such as a complete ICS Port (non-SDK), ROMs like MIUI 4, etc?
Check in general, there should be a thread that gives the status of CM9. And there's a video as well.

And there is a WIP thread on the ICS port in Development you can read.
The sdk port is dead. I got later source built ports from the charge booting, but not much worked. Let's just wait for cm9

Thanks for that. May try MIUI for the first time this weekend. Is there any chance of getting WiMax on MIUI4? Or is it that it will never be available because there is no WiMax in China?
Same thing with the Chinese. According to qbking77 and noobnl cm9 is getting ready and almost perfect other than the memory leak and some issues with camera.

Although the SDK port is dead, will it ever be possible for stock ICS to be ported to the Epic? And from the video, it appears as though CM9 looks just like stock ICS. I'm assuming it will be like stock ICS but with the cyanogenmod features? It doesn't seem like the UI is different the way it's different on CM7. And as for MIUI 4 (which I have high hopes for) will the Epic get any of the MIUI 2 versions, or will it go straight from a v1 to v4? Thanks for the info!
CM9 goodness!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2r7anSiI5I we're very close guys!

Its not v1. V4 is just ics. By that number scheme, we're on v2.3. And v3 would be honeycomb, so its straight from v2.3 to v4. And if you're talking about the 2012 like 2.1.6, miui.us is skipping those releases for most devices and focusing on ics, which is what I'll do too.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
ok, thanks, i meant it like MIUI 2.1.6, so we're going from MIUI 1.12.13 (i forget what version it is) to an ICS based MIUI right? That sounds good.

AOSP is clean system. It's just how you would remove CM9 and there left only system - Android 4.0
AOKP is like CM9, almost the same, but it is more customizable than CM

I'm not sure what does it mean, but I think it might mean 'unofficial' or it means that rom is built from sources. I don't know. Correct me
In-topic: A KANG project means to take somebody else's work and put it to good use. From the word gank(ed).
Off-Topic: safariking I sent you a PM with the problems in your ROM you might want to fix in V8.
Regards
Can you change themes in AOSP with Theme Chooser? If not, then this ROM will quickly become very boring imo. Tbh, I'm looking forward to AOKP more than anything if CM9 will be abandoned.
I think the ICS theme is just fine, probably why I've stuck to CM7.2 Miracle Edition for so long.
But in all honesty I'm tired of GingerBread and just want a functional ICS with full hardware acceleration. That means no cheating with a half-***ed camera app and the ability to watch HQ YouTube videos and regular videos, period.

Hey,
Just curious why there isn't an AOSP rom in the making or anything. There's pretty much every other rom available either in beta or stable but I'm just surprised that an AOSP rom hasn't been started. My assumption is that it would be easier to port AOSP compared to AOKP or CM, but I'm probably wrong in that statement. Anyways, just curious why there isn't one.
Thanks

AOKP is AOSP with some mods, CM is a more heavily modified version of AOSP.

Right, I knew that, but they are still not pure AOSP considering all of the mods put into the roms.

So many ROM's popping up lately for the GS3 (and One X), that are AOSP and TW hybrids.....why are these builds not TW and CM10 hybrids? Mainly I ask for the CM10 lockscreen over the AOSP lockscreen.......Ever since Sense 3.0 started with the lockscreen shortcuts, I have been addicted to them.

LOL gee thanks for the help.....
obviously I know CM10 is AOSP based, which is why I asked the question in the first place. Why would the dev's use AOSP when CM10 is generally a much better experience?
Because using cyanogen development would not make them devs.... if you build a ROM you start from the source not another ROM.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
its not a matter of using cm10 cm9 or aokp pa etc as a base for a tw hybrid rom......my rom has touches of aokp and cm and future releases will include features from other aosp based roms.....using features from cm still makes a dev a dev because it is very difficult to include aosp type features into a tw rom......a lot of people can build roms from source but to put those features into a base that isnt meant for it is very time consuming and requires a lot of code adapting etc
Thread title.
I was just wondering because TW roms are based on the current released version for the phone whereas AOSP roms are the latest android version ported over to the phone, is this correct?
My experience is yes, tw is more stable. Although aosp roms are for versions unreleased to our phone, such as 4.2.2. They are usually pretty stable and get better with time. It just takes time for developers to fix things. But you miss out on things such as being able to update prl or profile in the Aosp ROMs. AOSP ROMs aren't necessarily ported though, a lot are built from source, but I get what you are saying.

Thanks, for the longest time (up until today) I never saw the point in TW roms.
I was pretty naive and thought they were inferior in every way but the more I look into it I see there are lots of pros and cons to both

It really depends on who is building the Rom... right now, with them working out the bugs with the new 3.4 kernel must aosp roms are going to have some bugs.... tw is great though, more goodies in them and I generally get better performance and battery with tw roms... once the 3.4 kernel gets ironed out things should be pretty on par with tw on aosp though... I know of an almost completely stable 3.4 kernel, but it can't be mentioned here..
