Hey,
Just curious why there isn't an AOSP rom in the making or anything. There's pretty much every other rom available either in beta or stable but I'm just surprised that an AOSP rom hasn't been started. My assumption is that it would be easier to port AOSP compared to AOKP or CM, but I'm probably wrong in that statement. Anyways, just curious why there isn't one.
Thanks

AOKP is AOSP with some mods, CM is a more heavily modified version of AOSP.

Right, I knew that, but they are still not pure AOSP considering all of the mods put into the roms.

It is possible he is wanting an official release so he can have wi-fi calling. I personally don't like the CM based roms since my banks website doesn't work with any of them, whether it was on my vibrant, G2x, MyTouch 4G or my galaxy s II. So it's clearly something with the CM coding that makes my banks website not work correctly. That's a major deal breaker for me.

He's talking about the update from telus. Telus doesn't support wi-fi calling.
OP needs to just flash CM10 already.
Why wait for something that you can have now?
Of course he could be wanting an update with Touchwiz, in which case i have no idea how to help (p.s. Stock launcher is better than TW)
I am personally awaiting an official JB update as well. While our phone has great developer and community support I am itchy for some product butter. That amazing smoothness is one of the main reasons I have been running ASD's Tweakwiz even though I'm usually always loyal to AOSP

You either haven't tried other amazing ROMs outside of the CM10 community or you're a really big CM10 fan... can't tell~

Completely agreed. While I do like cm10 I am starting to take a good liking to touchwiz. I am looking forward to the official release of jb it should be pretty darn smooth. Also I find battery life to be significantly better on TouchWiz roms

aosp experience is none like other to me
even though aosp has its short fall
I just like that vanilla aosp experience
Most stable JB roms? They are getting better but with an official release it would be better. I have JB on my note 10.1 and its awesome. Way better than jb roms here do far

You are right! I like the look of stock launcher, but I love the new touchwiz. It is very smooth and useful. I always go back to Touchwiz roms after trying CM10 or aokp.

Well yeah its a better device but if JB was working the way it is meant to on this device it would be better than it is now. The devs do a great job here but would be able to do more with an official, stable rom.

What is the difference between AOKP and AOSP? I see these two terms thrown around a lot but I've never been able to find a very good explanation of what exactly AOSP is. I know what they stand for abs I know that AOKP is a specific ROM, but what is the difference?

AOSP is the Android Open Source Project, i.e. the Android codebase that Google makes available to developers. See here, for example.
AOKP is a specific AOSP-based ROM, i.e. a ROM developed using the AOSP codebase as a starting point.
Is CyanogenMod AOSP-based as well? Is that why ParanoidKANGdroid can combine it with AOKP and ParanoidAndroid?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Yes cyanogenmod is based off of AOSP.
Technically anything android is based on aosp as it is the source code. An aosp rom simply means pure google. Basically any nexus stock Rom could be considered aosp.
Kang on the other hand means "jacking" or borrowing a version spicing it up and making it your own that's why you have aokp a "kang of aosp". You're going to see a lot of kangs thrown around.
Feel free to add or correct me if I'm wrong.
To verify that we are on the same page:
Can there be a AOSP ROM that you can simply flash do a device like the i747 without the carrier bloatware or any other modifications?
Now things are making sense And yes, according to the previous post, technically a stock ROM, whichever version of Android you go for could be flashed, and be pure Android, no bloatware.

What I want to get is a ROM for my i747 that doesn't have any AT&T bloatware installed but is still 4.1.2 current.

4.1.2 isn't current any more; 4.2.1 is.
If you're enjoying your stock experience other than the bloatware, what I'd do is root your device and use something like Titanium Backup to freeze out the bloatware that you don't want to use - thus, you can keep doing what you've been doing and be happily bloat-free.
If you want to go further than that, by all means go ahead... it's fun to experiment and find out what works best for you.
I like custom ROMs mostly because I hate TouchWiz lol

which one is better aosp or aokp
I am a long time CM user. I used AOKP briefly a while back but switched back to CM. I recently (yesterday) gave AOKP another shot. I like the small customizations not found in CM, but I would really like to know what are some features found in AOKP that you frrlntou cannot live without? I'm looking for something I may have missed in my evaluation as well as opinions from other users on features they like the most from that ROM.

In my experience CM is more stable than AOKP. But AOKP has more mods that I like, small things like a centered clock and the ability to change navbar. Navbar customization is very limited in CM. Also I stopped using kernels other than what is packaged with the ROMs, and I haven't had any random reboots.

well, I'm using AOKP, and before used CM. I liked more AOKP cause your customizations. but about stability, for me both is the same. but I chosen AOKP cause my Gnexus had a problem that usb in not charging, I had hoped that the problem were the software and after install some ROMs, AOKP was unique that make my usb work good

I was just wondering because TW roms are based on the current released version for the phone whereas AOSP roms are the latest android version ported over to the phone, is this correct?
My experience is yes, tw is more stable. Although aosp roms are for versions unreleased to our phone, such as 4.2.2. They are usually pretty stable and get better with time. It just takes time for developers to fix things. But you miss out on things such as being able to update prl or profile in the Aosp ROMs. AOSP ROMs aren't necessarily ported though, a lot are built from source, but I get what you are saying.

Thanks, for the longest time (up until today) I never saw the point in TW roms.
I was pretty naive and thought they were inferior in every way but the more I look into it I see there are lots of pros and cons to both

It really depends on who is building the Rom... right now, with them working out the bugs with the new 3.4 kernel must aosp roms are going to have some bugs.... tw is great though, more goodies in them and I generally get better performance and battery with tw roms... once the 3.4 kernel gets ironed out things should be pretty on par with tw on aosp though... I know of an almost completely stable 3.4 kernel, but it can't be mentioned here..

Looking for the most STABLE ROMs. I use GPS/Bluetooth frequently, and the ROMs so far I've tried have had some issues with BT. On Dirty Unicorn so far, it's great, but I want to try something else.
Sorry if this has been posted before, there's just so many ROMs to choose from....
I'll consider TouchWiz as well, but I love AOSP/Cm10.1. If I went TouchWiz I want something at leeeeast debloated..

IB4TL. Personal opinion is WOR5 for tw Rom and Pacman for the aosp side. Take a weekend and flash a few... just please read every OP and flash clean every time. Oh and make sure your changing to the correct modem If going back and forth between aosp and tw or you won't have data.

Yeah I read every OP and clean flash, and let the ROM sit for a couple hours before I give an opinion of it. Good recommendations though.

I personally like Slim Bean and as far as tw roms go. I like jellyverse and blue cuban. All three of these roms are rock solid. I think anyone of them could become one of you're go-to-roms....But as stated through out this site, everybody likes something different. Hence the reason there is more than one rom thread,lol.. Good luck.. Hope this helps..
