new "Galaxy Nexus HSPA+" listed in google play store same or diferent? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I Just looked at the google play store and along with the tablet and social media hub (nexus q) that has been added.. the galaxy nexus is now listed as the Galaxy Nexus HSPA+
Obviously the new thing here is the HSPA+ branding and the fact the phone will ship with JellyBean...
but other than that.. does anyone know if this phone is any different than the one I bought a month ago? :-/
I've been using my phone on t-mobile since it came in the mail.. and although the download speeds are fast enough (fastest tested so far was 8.66Mbps).. it could be just tmobile and my unfortunate location rather than the phone lacking HSPA+
Anyone know if the old one was also HSPA+?

No difference in the device. They are just distinguishing that it isn't the CDMA version.

Yes, the nexus you bought is hspa+ capable.

Don't want to disappoint you but the phone does NOT ship with 4.1. Re-read under tech specs:
"OS
Ships with Android 4.0
Soon upgraded to Android 4.1, Jelly Bean"
Its supposed to receive OTA mid-July.

OP, please sell your Google device, as you have not learned to use the website that started it all

All of the GSM Galaxy Nexii are HSPA+. They surely just put it in the name now to distinguish from the CDMA model.

Show the love to AT&T for the Galaxy Nexus

Made a Google+ Page to try to get AT&T to officially carry the Galaxy Nexus. I have the phone myself (unlocked) but I just want to continue showing AT&T they should bring this phone to their network.
+1 the page, add the page even comment on it. I will not be posting any type of news or updates or anything in that nature so you wouldn't have to worry about that page spamming your g+ account. I might post something once in a while just to attract more people on it if I have to. But its there to show AT&T just how many customers want the Galaxy Nexus on the network.

Don't forget about Rogers Network runs the same bands as AT&T. I thought that too but heres is what I am thinking with i9250T and I could be wrong completely but I am thinking outside the box and looking at the previous Nexus S release and how things panned out:
Rogers has already announced it is releasing the phone in January 2012.
We know that the International version runs on all GSM networks. So why wouldn't Rogers launch at some time as others in Canada? Maybe because they have a 32GB exclusive only up there and only on those bands? AT&T hasn't made any official statement that they will carry the Galaxy Nexus. Though that silent release, basically, Verizon did doesn't mean AT&T wouldn't do something like that as well.
I am looking at this as it might not come to AT&T. Look how long it took for the Nexus S to come to AT&T.
Nothing is lost from what I am trying to do. Worst thing that happens is AT&T doesn't release it and all of that was for nothing. But why not try when we, the public and customers, do not know what their plans are.
:-D

Such a punch in the face for the "Nexus" title. I'm thinking that Google is trying its hardest to encourage manufacturers from putting skins on top of Android by making stock Android more favorable with all these marketing ads that are being released.

If there is no lte..... its DoA
If there is no lte in the att phone then this will be a dead on arrival. At the moment lte is not everywhere yet, but it is in my area already (Schaumburg IL- zip code 60193) and the thought of an upgrade to a new phone that I will be stuck with for at least 18 months makes no lte a huge disappointment.
Even if lte was not in my area- the massive expansion of lte would make me choose a phone with LTE for my next upgrade.
With lte using the 700mhz spectrum it is a stronger signal and better in buildings than 3G will ever be.
I oppose to your idea. I already have it on at&t btw.

GALAXY NEXUS gt-I9250 4g ?!?!

hi. i ordered the galaxy nexus from handtec.co.uk a while ago
and it arrived 2-3 weeks ago. i live in kuwait and the cost is around 207 KD shipping included.
yesterday a store called electrozan started selling it for 199 KD with one year warranty with a company called wefix (what i care about is the LOCAL warranty)
and the model is gt-I9250 and in the poster it says 4G !
is it lte 4g ?
i did a google search and many sites are saying lte 4g even gsmarena.
and i discovered my phone have dead pixels. so i talked to handtec and managed to get an approval for a refund. so i buy the phone from electrozan and get a local warranty so i don't have to ship it to the uk everytime something happens to it.
anyways ... your thoughts?
Thanks for the no replies ...

Some networks are marketing HSPA+ as 4g. HSPA+ is basically the fastest mobile data connection possible on the GSM version of the Galaxy Network.

Again, 4G is a generic term. There are three versions of 4G out in markets now. LTE, WiMAX and HSPA+ (anything faster than 14.4Mbps). The GSM Galaxy Nexus supports 4G on HSPA+, but the I-9250 is not an LTE version and no Galaxy Nexus has WiMAX support.
thanks for the replies i get it now that they are stupid. i even asked them are you sure this is 4g and they said Yes then i asked them again " are you sure it is LTE" they said yes it is and referred me to the GSMarena link

Fyi, settings --> about --> status will give you your signal data. AFAIK, Verizon exists only in the US but they have Vodafone as Sister company abroad. I think Verizon is owned by the same people that own Vodafone. Don't quote me on that.

Which Nexus ?

So I am with Sprint and have the GNex but I am seeing more support for the GSM version ... so even though I have a Nexus.. is it really a Nexus? Does CDMA/LTE play a part in updates? Why doesn't h
My phone received the full Jellybean update? Is it antennas?
The GSM version by default is just going to have more support. Putting the fact that you can buy it cheaper aside, the GSM model works everywhere in the world. Compare that to the Sprint and Verizon models which are different devices for just those carriers (ROMs aren't compatible). Also consider that of the 3 models, the Sprint one probably has the smallest user base just considering the size of the carrier and how relatively recently the phone has gone on sale. The GSM model has been on sale since November 2011, the Verizon has been on sale since December 2011.
CDMA/LTE does play a part in the slowness of updates, basically because the carriers get involved. They have to test the updates on their networks (quite strenuously) before they give the OK to put the update out. We'll see how long Sprint takes (we've yet to get an update for the Sprint model), but we know that Verizon does take a while to push their updates. Your phone will get the Jelly Bean update, it'll just take a while.
The reason why the Sprint Galaxy Nexus isn't an "AOSP device" is simply because Google and Sprint haven't come to terms on their ability to license and distribute the proprietary radio parts with the rest of the Android code. They're currently able to license these for the Verizon model (this is new), and don't need to get specific carrier permission to use the GSM parts.
Your phone is a real Nexus. It'll get updates and will hopefully soon be an AOSP device too. You just have to realize that when the carriers (CDMA specifically) get involved, things get a little weird and not all phones get treated equally.
All of that being said, if you're interested in ROMs and development, I'm sure there will be plenty of great options for you on your Sprint model. If you're not interested in hacking (and that's okay!), then just patiently wait for the OTA and enjoy your device for what it is today.

Just because Google and Sprint decided to try and do things like Google Voice Integration and Google Wallet doesn't mean that they'll be able to come to terms on a licensing agreement for proprietary CDMA and LTE code.
Not to mention that there has been some friction between the two over the time since the NS4G has launched. Remember, Google launched the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint over 6 months after it became available worldwide (GSM) and on Verizon (CDMA/LTE). That doesn't seem to be something that would happen if they were really that good of buddies. Sure Verizon likely had a good agreement ($$$) with Google to have exclusivity, but if Google really wanted to launch a Sprint model they could've.
So explain to me why CDMA takes longer than gsm? What do the radios have to do with it ?

CDMA is not open source like GSM, so they have to add in all the proprietary code for the CDMA versions.

Opinion as to whether Verizon will work with Google on next Nexus device

What do you all think? Any chance that Verizon won't be so stubborn with Google this time and release another Nexus device? I'm curious... I love my GNexus, but would love a new toy to tinker around with... It's highly subjective, obviously.

I personally feel that the GNex is the last pure Nexus device we will see branded with Verizon. The whole fiasco with the 4.0.4 update was probably the breaking point. Google released it, and it took Verizon's poor excuse for technical support to "approve" it to be pushed out... while the iPhone has updates available as soon as Apple pushes them out with no delay.
It's sad too, because I truly feel that Verizon's LTE network is the best around so far (at least the most available). I would love to buy a Nexus 4 with LTE capabilities, but knowing Verizon, their crappy silk-screened logo on the front, back, top, and sides will hike the retail price of it to $650 because they love their contracts.
There may not be another Nexus on VZW for a while, at least until the sunset of CDMA. If my memory serves me correct LTE is open.. So once we don't need CDMA for voice and a secondary data network, Google will be able to sell unlocked LTE phones to VZW customers.
I know there are people here more knowledgable than I am that could help put some more light to that, or maybe tell me where I am confused. I am pretty sure that is what I have read in the past.

LTE on vzw is open and will allow unlocked LTE devices on it.
the problem is voice service still demands their CDMA network and their LTE frequency is limited to vzw. until we get multiband VoLTE capable phones, you will more than likely never see a nexus phone on verizon.

I guess it's different where ever you are. I have a device on both phones and there are times my note gets better service and there are times my Verizon gets better service.
Beyond that. I don't think you would see much of a difference if you rooted the bad boy.
A lot of Verizon owners have complained about the Verizon logo on the home button but that's water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.
Verizon 4glte is sweet but atts is faster in my tests. Hope this helps.

Probably a typical xda answer, but 'it depends' on where you will be using your phone. Poke around the Verizon GN2 forum (I assume you posted the same question there) and see how people like it. You might also want to base your decision on how active the AT&T and Verizon GN2 forums are if you plan to root/install a custom ROM.
Have you seen much difference between at&t and verizon connection indoors (both cellular and 3g). Also how abuot voice clarity? People claim that verizon has better reception indoors (due to lower spectrum) but i'm curious what you are seeing with your phones. I'm tempted to switch to at&t (from verizon) but bit concern that voice quality will suffer as will reception when I'm indoors (I live and work in the city; and while boston is not new york; it also isn't the plains of iowa).

I can't say which one has an edge. I'd almost always chose at&t here cause you can browse and be on the phone at the same time where as Verizon if you aren't on 4g you can't do it without a htc.
I definitely use Verizon more for the phone calls and I think their 4g is more accessible.
It's an even split for me.
If it helps. I believe I've had more dropped calls with at&t but that's common with them.
As far as Indoors.. I don't see Verizon being better or worse in that department. That too depends on where you are I believe.

I just switched from Verizon. My wife's phone was first back in July (S3). I have noticed since switching that AT&T's 4gLTE is faster than Verizon. Plus I like having a 4g signal as a second drop back. Verizon all you have is 3g.

Verizon note 2 doesn't have wireless charging functionality. Also b home button has Verizon logo. From what I read from Verizon forum boot loader is also locked and latest update will brick your phone if you have custom software.
I'd go with ATT note 2 if I were you. That's my 2 cents

To check your best coverage at home, work, relatives, got to the market and download the 4g,cdma,lte,gsm,wifi coverage maps app from Sensorly. You enter the address and you can see the coverage of the carriers you want.
Verizon also puts more bloatware on your phones than AT&T. Having had their Droids in the past, the locked bootloaders on Verizon are a huge pain. You have to put off updating until the exploit is found.

If I were you I'd get the AT&T version simply for the fact that of you have coverage your data will not be slow. With Verizon that's not always guaranteed. In many instances I've seen my HSPA+ pull faster speeds than Verizon's LTE. Photo is case and point. Then there's also the matter of root accessibility and that hideous logo on the home button.
