KindleWater v3.0
KindleWater is now a part of BreakDroid all in one tool. I am also slowly backing off of Kindle development because of the Nexus 7
The new version is bundled as a part of BreakDroid (A multi device rooting app). Just download breakdroid from the download link below and you're good to go!
Downloads:
Download the newest version of BreakDroid from BreakDroid's website northmendo.com/breakdroid
Credits:
ST3P_2 (Me) writing the UI and some of the scripts, and slimming the SDK to the essentials
northmendo (co author) for writing the scripts and hosting the website
pokey9000 for fastboot
Team Win for TWRP recovery
Common fixes:
Try opening up terminal on your Mac and typing "adb devices" without the quotes. It should list a number like 29491656. If it doesn't the app isn't going to work.
Try opening terminal and typing "adb kill-server". Then try the adb devices trick above, it should now list a number.
Try restarting your Mac and kindle
Try rerunning KindleWater.
Changelog:
0.6.4 Changed recovery to TWRP and changed boot loader to the new FireFireFire 1.4a!
0.6.2 Became a part of BreakDroid with the 6.3 root
2.1.8 Added instructions for flashing your first ROM
2.1.7 Changed some command timing
2.1.6 Sorted out some su access problems
2.1.3 Fixed some bugs
2.1.2 Improvements to the rooting script
2.1.1 Added the new CWM recovery that doesn't have to be downloaded! 2.1.1= 100% automatic
2.1.0 Fixed some problems with ADB and added a cleaner app to remove older versions of ADB
2.0.0 (first version co authored by northmendo) Basically rewrote everything to automate everything except recovery download (we can't get permission from its author)
1.1.0 Changed some code to speed things up, fixed a misspelling, and rewrote some parts of the tutorial to make things more understandable
1.0.1 Fixed some things requested by northmendo, the creator of the USB.ini installer and ADB installer scripts
1.0.0 Created the application (duh)

To install the recovery after you're already rooted just follow the instructions for installing TWRP here.
If you were having trouble with the kindle not rebooting after installing ADB, download and run the ADB fixer for 2.0.0 and run it. Then you can run the "2. Root" from the main menu and it should work!

Accidently Installed Jelly Bean and...

I'm going to try to make a long story short
I downloaded a Jelly Bean ROM and the Amazon Update Stock ROM
I renamed the Jelly Bean ROM to Update.zip (there's my mistake)
I booted into TWRP recovery and applied Update.zip, when I rebooted I had Jelly Bean
No big deal right? I used Kindle Utility to reinstall TWRP, rebooted and was stuck on the Kindle Fire splash... No big deal right?
While trying to correct the problem, I went from not-so-bad to very terrible.
Eventually a fellow co-work built a factory USB cable for me I was able to finally get back to TWRP recovery, flashed the original stock ROM and when it rebooted, I was stuck on Kindle Fire splash again. HELP! Well I had the birght idea of taking all the knowlege I learned to get back into TWRP and was successful in doing so, I then re-flashed the Jelly Bean ROM... lo-and-behold, My fire booted into Jelly Bean
Now with all that said, I would like to know if anyone knows how to take the Kindle Fire back to stock from Jelly Bean, would it be the same as reverting it back if there were another ROM installed? As you can tell by all the problems I've had, I'm a bit hesitant...
Any direction would be apperciated
I went with this following suggestion and was able to get back to the stock look and feel

I just hope you did a backup before updating and so forth? If so, restore from that.
Otherwise, you'll have to do a Google search and try to find a zip of the stock ROM.
Did you wipe

Dunno what your point is about returning to stock but just flash modaco instead use ota root keeper for your prime video and enjoy the benefits of the Google android market a sort of have your cake and eat it too deal when flashing place modaco on your sdcard wipe factory reset wipe cache wipe dalvik wipe system flash modaco reboot and enjoy

Wow lots of information there...
I did make the mistake of trying to flash stock rom and lost fff and twrp, I was able to recover from that by using a modified USB cable
I would like to go back to 100% stock even without root, I've had my Fire rooted from day one and don't really use any of the features that rooting unlocks, basically I use it to view Netflix and Amazon prime, play some games on it... I thought I'd use it for work but if work wants me to have a tablet, they'll buy me one! HAHA
If I decide to use the rom you suggested, I'll make sure not to use the version you said to stay away from
If I make a backup now, it's going to just backup the existing freshly installed rom. What's the difference between backing up the fire now and reinstalling the JellyBean rom?
I appreciate all your information

First of all you must flash gapps after your ROM secondly don't you have fff bootloader use that to enter recovery if you don't have fff will need to add it using kfu if you can't get kfu to see your kindle likely you will need to reinstall your drivers to do so
Daniel if you have a yellow triangle when you first boot hold the power button till it turns orange this will take you to recovery where you can flash jb gapps if you have a screen with white kindle and blue fire press your power button quickly a few times till you get a small boot menu at the bottom select recovery with your power button this will take you to recovery sorry you can't use smirkis unless you can get to recovery so completely disregard that
Thanks. I would like to flash gapps, but as I can not access recovery mode I dunno how to do it. I don have FFF, how can I install it once having JB 4.1?

KitKat ROMS dont work with TWRP 2.2.2.1

I have sucessfully installed CM 10.2, it frequently shuts itself off (but never when the screen is on). I suspect this is a ROM issue. I would like to flash a new ROM that is KitKat based, because those are the only ones that i can seem to find and i would think there would be some performance upgrade. I've tried to flash a couple KitKat ROMs already and they give me a "status 7", which if im not mistaken is due to the TWRP version not being compatible with KitKat. I've looked all around for an updated TWRP version and all i have found is .img files (this is a no go for me because adb is just very difficult on my computer right now).
Edit: found a .zip file but it says blaze instead of otter, would this be compatible?
that's the right one
no for CM11 you need TWRP 2.6.3.0 or better

If you have problems with that file and/or don't want to use adb/fastboot flash method, you can download a flashable .zip from the following locations. Use your existing recovery to flash the update:

The fastest and easiest way to install TWRP is to use the GooManager app:

1) Install GooManager from the Play Store
2) Open GooManager and provide root permissions
3) Hit Menu (or the button with the 3 dots on your screen) and then Install OpenRecovery

[Q] Kindle/Root crashed - Can't get past TWRP menu

I rooted my Kindle Fire a year or more ago. I'm not a super user and simply followed a guide I found on Youtube. I don't even recall which one. Things have been working fine for months but the last time I tried to use my Kindle, it boots up to a TWRP v2.5.0.0 Menu (Install, Backup, Restore, Wipe, etc).
The only instructional guide I can find online is a step-by-step to unroot the Kindle for warranty purposes. I don't want it unrooted. I just want it usable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I'm traveling with my Kindle and laptop. This is not the machine I used originally to root the Kindle.
Thanks.
Tipsy
I'm not an expert as you can see by my post count, but if you can boot into TWRP then try to download another ROM and install it.
You can follow this guide on what to do, its the one I just used a couple of minutes ago and it solved my problems.sd_shadow's pre-root 6.3.3. 6.3.3 Can't be rooted yet but instead of using the link I posted you can try a modded stock 6.3.2 with root installed, but the ones I tried would try to update and cause it to reboot after 5 seconds. If you have a working TWRP and want it to be working right now you can use the link I put till someone who knows better replies since you can always re-flash the system with TWRP.
Use the mount options in twrp to copy my pre-rooted 6.3.3, to the sd card.
Unmount, and install, if you want latest rooted stock rom.
.
You will need to upgrade twrp if you want to try a current custom rom
I will go into more detail if you want.

The newest roms are using the Project OtterX: TWRP and Bootloader
I made a [Video] OtterX ROM/TWRP/Bootloader [ROM 2014-05-08]
just use the current TWRP and bootloader here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671619
and a rom that says OtterX compatible like SlimKat,SGT, or CM11(posted in OtterX thread)
Okay, I watched your video. I'm over my head. I'm sure if I spent an entire weekend reading and researching, I could figure it out. But I don't have that much time right now. Is there a simple tutorial I can follow that will simply get this thing up and running?
Thanks.

Okay, I've down loaded your .zip file. I selected Mount in TWRP. "SD Card" and "Cache" are already checked. On the right, it says "Mount USB Storage." There is no option to Mount ADB.

Okay...I'm not really sure where I stand. I followed your instructions above. It's now booted normally, but the System Version shows 6.3.2_user_4110520. I was expecting to see Version 6.3.3?
Honestly, as long as it's functioning, I don't really care. But maybe I should try installing those drivers and repeating the process? How do I go about installing the necessary drivers to this laptop?
Thanks by the way for all the help!
Tipsy
Installed failed, I guess.
Easiest way to install drivers is with kindle fire utility.
What os is on laptop?

Win 7 64 Bit.

If kindle is connected to WiFi, it will download 6.3.3 update, then try to install, install will likely fail, and reboot to twrp. In the unlikely event the update installs, you will lose root, and need a fastboot cable to reroot

Strange. It's indicating the version I listed above. It's conected to Wifi and the "Update your Kindle" prompt is not selectable.
I'm sorry. I realize these questions must be utterly basic to you but I have no idea what the Kindle Fire Utility is or where to look for it.

Yes you should install drivers, but if can mount sd card, and copy files to it, all is good.

Just wanted to follow up. I'm finally back with the PC I used for the initial Kindle root. I once again followed the instructions in your video and reinstalled your rooted 6.3.3 OS v1. This time, there's no doubt it was successful. Thanks very much for your help!
Do I understand correctly that this should remain stable and the Kindle will not attempt to auto-update the OS, rendering the rooted OS inoperative?
Tipsy
It should be as stable as stock, just rooted.
It is safe from updating, only till next update is pushed.
If there ever is another update.
But if you have twrp installed, update should fail.

Okay...I think I screwed up. I was in the Play Store and there was a Go Launcher update, which I installed. From that point on, everything went down hill. Parts of the screen were obscured, preventing me from making selections and nothing in my Newstand was usable. Also, Zinio, the primary app I use, would not load.
I figured I should not have loaded the Go Launcher update, so I went back to "Install" and reinstalled your .zip rooted OS. But it didn't seem to bring me back to where I was the other day. And I still have the same issues (Newstand and Zinio don't function).
Any ideas?

Thanks for help.
if u dun mind, can u upload these to dropbox? (in my area, mediafire is blocked )
http://www.mediafire.com/download/q0..._Stock.1.4.zip
http://www.mediafire.)com/download/z...g_Version).zip
I can't revert to stock recovery .. it stuck in waiting device (cuz i think usb debugging is not on)
My room is already on B510.
I think the problem (stuck on huawei logo and there is no os) occurs bcoz I accidentally wipe all data (Dalvik Cache, System, Cache, Custom Storage, Data, Internal Storage) via TWRP.
What can I do to install OS?
download this stock recovery first
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760973625
^ after you download extract and rename it's file to recovery.img
then
If you can still access your twrp try rebooting in bootloader mode then>
use your adb /fastboot on pc
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then follow the instructions above for how to reinstall your android os
also to download those mediafire files try using http://onlineproxyfree.com/
also in the future when using twrp never format internal or external memory..
---------- Post added at 09:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:08 AM ----------
also make sure you have adb drivers loaded? try this maybe http://adbdriver.com/upload/AdbDriverInstaller.exe

Hello,
Thanks again bro. but i still have problems.
in CMD, when i typed "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", it's still in waiting for device.
For "onlineproxyfree(dot)com", it's also blocked by FortiGuard Web Filtering.
Yeah.. I won't format internal / ext again
I already installed adb drivers to my laptop.
hmm try rebooting your phone directly into fastboot> hold vol- and power continuously till it boots in fastboot>plug phone back in> then try flashing the recovery again
also make sure to replace your drivers with the ones in the software i provided the link for, also remove any huawei pc sync or whatever the name of the pc software was, it sometimes clashes with adb
maybe try using tor for downloading from mediafire.

still stuck in "waiting for device"
hmm i faced that issue too once, give me a few min let me check something
---------- Post added at 10:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 AM ----------
Can you send me a screenshot of your device manager screen? ie goto control panel>admin tools>Computer management>Device manager, also are you using adb in your cmd command or are you using fastboot? Try adb devices and see if it shows a serial number,
also maybe try replacing your adb/device/fastboot (whatever device manager is picking your phone up as) with this driver http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi

Download firmware from official website and extract it. Copy dload folder and paste it in sdcard. Now turn on your device by pressing volume up + volume down + power button. This will force install firmware in your phone.
