Accidently Installed Jelly Bean and... - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going to try to make a long story short
I downloaded a Jelly Bean ROM and the Amazon Update Stock ROM
I renamed the Jelly Bean ROM to Update.zip (there's my mistake)
I booted into TWRP recovery and applied Update.zip, when I rebooted I had Jelly Bean
No big deal right? I used Kindle Utility to reinstall TWRP, rebooted and was stuck on the Kindle Fire splash... No big deal right?
While trying to correct the problem, I went from not-so-bad to very terrible.
Eventually a fellow co-work built a factory USB cable for me I was able to finally get back to TWRP recovery, flashed the original stock ROM and when it rebooted, I was stuck on Kindle Fire splash again. HELP! Well I had the birght idea of taking all the knowlege I learned to get back into TWRP and was successful in doing so, I then re-flashed the Jelly Bean ROM... lo-and-behold, My fire booted into Jelly Bean
Now with all that said, I would like to know if anyone knows how to take the Kindle Fire back to stock from Jelly Bean, would it be the same as reverting it back if there were another ROM installed? As you can tell by all the problems I've had, I'm a bit hesitant...
Any direction would be apperciated
I went with this following suggestion and was able to get back to the stock look and feel

Thank you everyone for your suggestions... I was very hesitant to re-try it again, this is the first time I've had anything happen like this too me and I've been using Andriod Cupcake days!

I just hope you did a backup before updating and so forth? If so, restore from that.
Otherwise, you'll have to do a Google search and try to find a zip of the stock ROM.

Did you wipe

I did not do a backup. Do you say I would have to find a full Amazon ROM and not the Update from Amazon?

Wow lots of information there...
I did make the mistake of trying to flash stock rom and lost fff and twrp, I was able to recover from that by using a modified USB cable
I would like to go back to 100% stock even without root, I've had my Fire rooted from day one and don't really use any of the features that rooting unlocks, basically I use it to view Netflix and Amazon prime, play some games on it... I thought I'd use it for work but if work wants me to have a tablet, they'll buy me one! HAHA
If I decide to use the rom you suggested, I'll make sure not to use the version you said to stay away from
If I make a backup now, it's going to just backup the existing freshly installed rom. What's the difference between backing up the fire now and reinstalling the JellyBean rom?
I appreciate all your information

I have successfully installed JB 4.1.1 (full_otter-userdebug 4.1.1 JRO03 eng.hashcode.20120713.003406 test keys) and I have two issues:
1. google play does not run (start). It was not installed at all, and when installed from APK (v3.7.11) is crashes at startup
2. I don't see the device using adb and I am not able to boot into recovery mode to re-flash it...
Any ideas appreciated, since now I am now able to read my amazon content on it.... ;(

First of all you must flash gapps after your ROM secondly don't you have fff bootloader use that to enter recovery if you don't have fff will need to add it using kfu if you can't get kfu to see your kindle likely you will need to reinstall your drivers to do so
Daniel if you have a yellow triangle when you first boot hold the power button till it turns orange this will take you to recovery where you can flash jb gapps if you have a screen with white kindle and blue fire press your power button quickly a few times till you get a small boot menu at the bottom select recovery with your power button this will take you to recovery sorry you can't use smirkis unless you can get to recovery so completely disregard that

Thanks. I would like to flash gapps, but as I can not access recovery mode I dunno how to do it. I don have FFF, how can I install it once having JB 4.1?

Your welcome

Possible brick, left with no files whatsoever on my KF

I have looked through the Kindle Forums and it seems I cannot find something that matches my problem, but if I missed the correct thread please link me to it if necessary.
So I've finally bricked my device after no problems since I've owned it. I had been on Twa_Priv's CM10 ROM and loved it and have had no problems whatsoever other than my lack of storage. I had a backup of my original rooted Amazon ROM on my device, and I planned on reverting to stock to start over so I can have a decent amount of memory. Little did I know, and I now learned my lesson for this, but without reading XDA before taking any action I went ahead and factory reset the device through the settings and left the room. I come back, for a second I see code running on the blank screen and then it reboots straight to TWRP.. That's when I checked my files and saw that when my KF was wiping files, it literally wiped EVERYTHING except for the TWRP folder of course., including important android system files a long with it. I've read similar threads where they were stuck with just TWRP, but from what I've read this is not the same.
If there is anything I can do to just get some form of Android running so I can revert to stock from there, I would be very much appreciative if someone could let me know. Thanks.
Will restoring the backup not do what you're looking for?
Well that's the thing, it even wiped my restores too somehow.. Pretty much at the moment my Kindle is like a really big flash drive with a screen :/
Do you want pure stock (no root, no TWRP, no FFF) or custom rooted stock (keep root, TWRP, FFF, and have Gapps included)?
For now just pure stock, I can always re-root and all the good stuff when I'm willing to move away from Amazon's limitations since I know the information is out there for how to do so.
Then again if I can get a custom rooted stock that would be fine too, I forget the Amazon app store doesn't have good applications.

Alright Thanks, I will let you know how it goes once I have everything downloaded and flashed
Sadly it didn't boot. It continues to just boot into recovery even after factory resetting and flashing the ROM.
When your device boots, do you see a blue Kindle Fire logo?
No, I just see the FFF logo and the power lights orange on its own and it goes straight to TWRP, I've even tapped the power to see if it was possibly stuck in, but it's not.
Download and flash FFF1.4.zip via TWRP and reboot. (don't wipe)
When you see the blue Kindle Fire logo, hold the power button until you see the boot options appear at the bottom.
Choose "Reset boot mode".

Ah ha, thank you.

[Q] Kindle fire I believe is stuck in a boot loop.

When ever I turn on my kindle fire it first boots up to TWRP v2.6.3.1. Then I have to reboot it to the system. When it finally boots to the system stock 6.3.2 after 5-10 seconds it will turn off and boot into TWRP again. When it is in TWRP it doesn't reboot after 5-10 secs. I've tried using KFU and fastboot/adb command to try to boot it to normal boot. It still reboots. After that I've tried install CM11. After about 2 hours on it it didn't reboot. So I figured I should try a modded stock 6.3.2, but that still reboots after 5-10 secs.
Any ideas on how to fix? I can't seem to figure it out even after reading Kindle Fire For Beginners.

I don't recommend using KFU once you have a working TWRP.
Use a TWRP installable bootloader (zip file) like [bootloader][05-26] FFF 1.4A bugfixes + new look + recovery boot [.zip file size]

I guess I'll probably use a custom ROM then. I had permanent root with super user installed a while back from KFU . What would happen if I updated? Would that brick my KF? If I did update I could always re-flash it with a lower ROM/custom rom with TWRP, correct.

Wait I'm a bit confused. You will lose the recovery and the bootloader once you upgrade? I thought the the recovery and bootloader were stored on a separate partition so even if you upgrade your ROM, losing your root won't affect your separate partitions. Also from reading your post in the other thread, is what I'm experiencing might cause by TWRP since mine is v2.6.3.1 and only 2.2.2.1 can install 6.3.2 stock ROM or its might be caused by what Haus said that OTA 6.3.3 update is causing my reboot.

[Q] Kindle/Root crashed - Can't get past TWRP menu

I rooted my Kindle Fire a year or more ago. I'm not a super user and simply followed a guide I found on Youtube. I don't even recall which one. Things have been working fine for months but the last time I tried to use my Kindle, it boots up to a TWRP v2.5.0.0 Menu (Install, Backup, Restore, Wipe, etc).
The only instructional guide I can find online is a step-by-step to unroot the Kindle for warranty purposes. I don't want it unrooted. I just want it usable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I'm traveling with my Kindle and laptop. This is not the machine I used originally to root the Kindle.
Thanks.
Tipsy
I'm not an expert as you can see by my post count, but if you can boot into TWRP then try to download another ROM and install it.
You can follow this guide on what to do, its the one I just used a couple of minutes ago and it solved my problems.sd_shadow's pre-root 6.3.3. 6.3.3 Can't be rooted yet but instead of using the link I posted you can try a modded stock 6.3.2 with root installed, but the ones I tried would try to update and cause it to reboot after 5 seconds. If you have a working TWRP and want it to be working right now you can use the link I put till someone who knows better replies since you can always re-flash the system with TWRP.
Use the mount options in twrp to copy my pre-rooted 6.3.3, to the sd card.
Unmount, and install, if you want latest rooted stock rom.
.
You will need to upgrade twrp if you want to try a current custom rom
I will go into more detail if you want.

The newest roms are using the Project OtterX: TWRP and Bootloader

just use the current TWRP and bootloader here

Okay, I watched your video. I'm over my head. I'm sure if I spent an entire weekend reading and researching, I could figure it out. But I don't have that much time right now. Is there a simple tutorial I can follow that will simply get this thing up and running?
Thanks.

If kindle is connected to WiFi, it will download 6.3.3 update, then try to install, install will likely fail, and reboot to twrp. In the unlikely event the update installs, you will lose root, and need a fastboot cable to reroot

Strange. It's indicating the version I listed above. It's conected to Wifi and the "Update your Kindle" prompt is not selectable.
I'm sorry. I realize these questions must be utterly basic to you but I have no idea what the Kindle Fire Utility is or where to look for it.

Just wanted to follow up. I'm finally back with the PC I used for the initial Kindle root. I once again followed the instructions in your video and reinstalled your rooted 6.3.3 OS v1. This time, there's no doubt it was successful. Thanks very much for your help!
Do I understand correctly that this should remain stable and the Kindle will not attempt to auto-update the OS, rendering the rooted OS inoperative?
Tipsy
It should be as stable as stock, just rooted.
It is safe from updating, only till next update is pushed.
If there ever is another update.
But if you have twrp installed, update should fail.

Okay...I think I screwed up. I was in the Play Store and there was a Go Launcher update, which I installed. From that point on, everything went down hill. Parts of the screen were obscured, preventing me from making selections and nothing in my Newstand was usable. Also, Zinio, the primary app I use, would not load.
I figured I should not have loaded the Go Launcher update, so I went back to "Install" and reinstalled your .zip rooted OS. But it didn't seem to bring me back to where I was the other day. And I still have the same issues (Newstand and Zinio don't function).
Any ideas?

[Q] Tried Pre-rooted Stock 6.3.3, But Stuck after Boot Up

Hi, I just tried to install sd_shadow's prerooted 6.3.3 stock rom, and it shuts off after about 10 seconds of the Kindle Fire boot up screen.
I use TWRP 2.7.1, and it looked like it installed properly.
Any ideas or thoughts?
Think you need to wipe data if using 2.7.x.x it will install fine with 2.2.2.1

Hmmm...tried wiping data. But let me try downgrading to 2.2.2.1 and installing it.
I tried flash installing the Otter X 2.2.2.1 TWRP recovery, but when I try to go to Recovery, OtterX just takes me back to Fastboot. Any idea why that might be happening?

TWRP 2.2.2.1 is not compatible with bootloader 2.04 or 2.05
if you have used otter X partitions you need to revert to anazon partitions, and do proper wipes formats
see [How-To] Revert from OtterX Project to Stock Kindle Fire Rom
if you are on stock amazon partitions
I would flash openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-blaze.img in bootloader
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-blaze.img
fastboot reboot
select recovery
install fff-u-boot_v1.4a.zip
and zip-otter-twrp-2.2.2.1-blaze.zip
reboot
not sure if 2.2.2.1 will boot or not, if not
just flash 2.2.2.1 recovery.img in 1.4a bootloader

Followed along with your video perfectly until I flashed TWRP 2.2.2.1. I'm at the bootloader screen and it's stuck right after I go to Recovery. It's just stuck on "Booting...". Any ideas?

did you verify md5 for files?
you have 1.4a/1.5 bootloader? if yes
could try flashing a different recovery.img like COTR http://d-h.st/XWy

My mistake, I installed the .zip file instead of the .img file. After installing the .img file, TWRP has come up.

So got everything to work, but could there be something wrong with the 6.3.3 Amazon stock rom? It asks me to factory reset before the rom starts up. And then a bunch of applications fail to start at the beginning. Then when I try to restart, it just loops me back into factory resetting again.
Should I go back and try to load the pre-rooted 6.3.3 rom?
Just when I thought I had done it, haha.

the problem with the stock firmware is it wipes TWRP and FFF,
to reflash TWRP/ FFF you need to root with saferoot or you need a Fastboot cable
try [How To][Root] Kindle Fire 1 update 6.3.3 and Flashing FFF/TWRP [2014]
or Using Factory/Fastboot Cable to Flash FFF Bootloader and TWRP Recovery

Do you think that's the best strategy? To try the pre-rooted stock rom next? Not sure what else to do at this point to get it to the stock rom.

You can't use the pre-rooted, without Twrp
You need to Root or use a Fastboot Cable so you can reflash TWRP

Right, I was going to flash TWRP on there again, and then try the pre-rooted stock rom. Not sure why the regular Amazon rom failed so much for me.

Oh boy...so I tried to factory reset from inside the Amazon stock rom, and it's now basically frozen on the Kindle Fire boot-up screen (it's been going for like 30 minutes). I can't get ADB working nor can I get fastboot up. Does it sound like I bricked it?
Any other solutions without using a fastboot cable?

I'm just thinking - will a fastboot cable/adapter even work if the stock rom isn't even loading up?
Btw, just wanted to say thanks for your help and the time you've given me. No matter how this ends up, I do appreciate it.

Tried command
Code:
fastboot devices
If you get something like
Code:
1234567890 device
Fast boot is working
If not, you need a fastboot cable.

Ah, did not know that. I'm assuming I can just grab the adapter - will do now.
Alright, I'm back here for help! : )
So, I watched like 3 of your videos, and I got my fastboot adapter, and I loaded a recovery and bootloader.
The issue I have now is that I can't access the Kindle Fire from my PC to send the stock rom. Every time I ADB, it says "error: device not found". I mounted the SD card just like you did in the video, and it still doesn't come up. Any ideas?
Also, is there any way I could donate some money to you or something for all of your help. I don't have much, but your time should be compensated.
