KitKat ROMS dont work with TWRP 2.2.2.1 - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have sucessfully installed CM 10.2, it frequently shuts itself off (but never when the screen is on). I suspect this is a ROM issue. I would like to flash a new ROM that is KitKat based, because those are the only ones that i can seem to find and i would think there would be some performance upgrade. I've tried to flash a couple KitKat ROMs already and they give me a "status 7", which if im not mistaken is due to the TWRP version not being compatible with KitKat. I've looked all around for an updated TWRP version and all i have found is .img files (this is a no go for me because adb is just very difficult on my computer right now).
Edit: found a .zip file but it says blaze instead of otter, would this be compatible?

that's the right one

no for CM11 you need TWRP 2.6.3.0 or better
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591850
from OP
If you have problems with that file and/or don't want to use adb/fastboot flash method, you can download a flashable .zip from the following locations. Use your existing recovery to flash the update:
Mirror 1: Download (Goo.im)

The fastest and easiest way to install TWRP is to use the GooManager app:
Play Store Link
Direct Download
1) Install GooManager from the Play Store
2) Open GooManager and provide root permissions
3) Hit Menu (or the button with the 3 dots on your screen) and then Install OpenRecovery

yea then TWRP downloaded and i rebooted

I would think that a reboot is required, and goo should auto reboot when ready,
but if it has been several minutes, maybe a manual reboot should be done.

How to change TWRP recovery

I have a t-mobile Galaxy s4 that is rooted and uses TWRP 2.6.3.0. The recovery keeps hanging at the Teamwin Blue screen. I downloaded the flashable TWRP 2.5 which is said to be more stable so can I just flash this with Goo Manager or will I have to remove the TWRP 2.6.3.0 first. If so how can I downgrade
Just flash in twrp like you would a Rom but don't do any wipes
No Boot into revcovery
I flashed the TWRP but when I try to go into recovery it opens to the Samsung screen with the blue writing and then it turns off, vibrates twice and boots normally. I did not wipe as you instructed

Download 2.5.0.2 version tar here http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2 click on Get TWRP for your device and type s4 and click on T-Mobile version jfltetmo, you should flash it through Odin. Whenever you flash another recovery to your phone, it replaces the older recovery.

Some people have huge issues with TWRP I know I did. You might want to flash CWM touch. I did and haven't had a problem since. You can easily download and flash from Rom manager. You can get that from play store. It will give you latest version of cwm touch. Easily. It should solve your recovery problems.i know it solved mine. Don't know why some can use twrp and others have nothing but problems with it. I know I couldn't use it.i needed a stable recovery and twrp was NOT stable for me. CWM touch had never given me a problem once..it might be time to give CWM touch a try...it worked out really great for me.

Your screenshot shows "philz 6.01.4" the downloadlink http://d-h.st/users/philz_touch/?fld_id=29384#files is broken. It seems if it was an old version of cwm you try to flash. Did you flash your CWM 6.0.4.5 via odin? And did you a full wipe before installed CM11? AND if you want to flash a zip via recovery pls put it in the root of your sd-card. Sorry, forgot to say this. Yes i'd try flashing it via Odin. I flashed your zip on my phone. took a screenshot. It seems as your actual cwm does your phone not recognize as "ancora or i8150" and aborts the installation. This also can happen if you have modified something in your "build.prop" of the installed Android.

[Q] Update From 4.2.2 To 4.4

Hey guys,
It has been a long time since I posted.
My Kindle fire is on CM SmoothRom v1.3
Kernel version 3.0.69 [email protected] #1 wed mar 13 12:18:03 EDT 2013
Twrp v2.4.4.0
I'm planning to update it.
1) what rom should I update to ? I'm looking for something fast which doesn't have any major bugs and its compitble with all of the new things.
I was thinking about InFriction ROM v11 or HellFire™KitKat
what do you guys think ?
2) what would be the exact stages I need to take in order to update ?
do I need to do something with FFF or do I need to update TWRP ?
please advise!
thanks in advance.

for cm11 (and likely the other 2 you listed) you will need to update TWRP recovery to 2.6.3.x or newer
several ways to do that
1. download http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/blaze/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-otter.img
copy to fire's sd card, then install with Flashify
2. Download http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/otter/recovery/flash-zip/zip-otter-twrp-2.6.3.0-selinux-recovery.zip and install in old TWRP
3. more options in my list Updating Twrp
If Gapps are not included in rom make sure you install a gapps version that works with the rom installed
I've been using http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-kk-20140105-signed.zip with Cm11
edit; Hashcode recommends gapps-kk-20131119.zip
and Verify that your downloads are complete with MD5/SHA-1 Hash Checksums

I had the same problem until I ran across this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698267 {Acually the same you quoted}
If you'll go down to the download Step #3 and copy that zip file to your computer and unzip it and run the bat file it will install TWRP v2.7. Of course you'll have to install the LG USB drivers and install from your computer. (Won't work otherwise) Also be sure and use the second down connection for USB on your tablet - M-something, but not the charging one.
Also - get a good reboot app so you won't have to hold the buttons.

You're quoting an old post (way back in April 2014).
1st - Do you have a recovery installed?
2nd - If so, you should update to at least TWRP 2.800
I may be confused about exactly what you are doing...now if you're only booting with the buttons (power-sound down, sound up) that is the message you get and you have to push 'power' 2 times to enter recovery. Are you doing that when you see the display of android recovery after using the cold boot, then the volume and power buttons?? And you are expecting to see TWRP opening, but instead of going straight to TWRP recovery - you're getting what you say 'Android Recovery', or Factory Reset?
Post back so we will understand please. Hope I'm not being confusing in my answers...

I know that is an old post. I was trying to flash the TWRP recovery without any downgrade of the software, since this method was suposed to work with the software version V50020b.
I simply want to flash TWRP recovery, the tablet is all stock with root (TowelRoot), but I just realised that I have to downgrade the software (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58198471&postcount=44), and wanted to avoid this! I already softbricked the tablet with only 3h of usage, and now I'm a little afraid! lol
Do you now any method that works without the downgrade trick?
Thanks.
Flash TWRP with flashify (root) - (from Play Store).
This *should* work & if not I think no harm will come ... Flashify.app just won't 'work' if things are not correct.
Good luck!

I did that. That's what softbricked the tablet!

I would shut the tablet completely down.
You should be able to use the 'buttons' to get to 'Factory Reset'. Do what you know: Power/+down then all 3. If you can't get to TWRP, it must not be installed.
Check with a command window. Be sure & use 'su'. Ask a guru 'how'...I may not be 'expert' enough!

Hi, i had the same problem as yours with v50020d 4.4.2
first i rooted with ioroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776198
second install step 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2698267
you have to run "runme.bat" from the zip. If did not install here is a post that helped me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54027265&postcount=9
then flash witch recovery you want with flashify or twrp app
if you have any questions message me.
good luck

PIXEL XL Turned Into Dark Theme

Hi Guys, Not sure why but my Pixel XL is now having a dark theme which i did not intend to do so... all the app with white background is now black... in Instagram I can't read the notification because the background turns white (omg)
I rooted the phone and installed Adaway thats all..
Any help will be appreciated
You may have turned on "invert colours". Go to settings- accessibility and check colour inversion toggle. Alternatively, there is also a shortcut tile for "invert colours" which you can toggle after pulling down the status bar.
I tired that, if it's on, even my wallpaper turns haywire. But it didn't and it is off
posting a screenshot would help

Do you have substratum installed? It looks like you've simply themed with substratum

I did buy it used.
But It was not in dark theme when I get it... Only appears after I install supersu in twrp.
Funny thing is it made Instagram's all white in the notification page.. I wouldn't like this them if it is the case haha
Any fix guys?

I would flash factory image just take the -w out of the flash all bat file so it doesn't wipe your data. Or you can just install the substratum app from the play store and there is a recovery zip inside the folder you can flash in TWRP. Just in case it did have a theme installed

If you're on the newest May factory image with the May bootloader you're going to have to flash chainfire's V3 zip whenever you flash TWRP, SuperSU, or you will lose TWRP and probably loop.
Golf c gave me this guide worked great with su and magisk
to update to May firmware with May bootloader this is how I did it first install may factory firmware with April bootloader's then install your rom and set it up. And root. Then after you root * boot to system. Boot TWRP and install v3 zip. Then Reboot to bootloader and install may bootloader's. Both slots. Then Reboot to system. Good to go. Just remember to flash that v3 zip after you alter boot, like TWRP,magisk, kernel.
You may not have to flash both slots but I did because I have my phone set up that way.
Since I was in slot b with no root, i have just ota updated to may.. i believe bootloader is also may now? Sorry for the noob question

Yes so for you to be able to flash root, and TWRP you need chainfire's new v3 zip. Or you need to fastboot April's bootloader's and not worry about it

really read up on the guide tho, essentially you need to flash that zip each time you are about to reboot from recovery or else it will loop.

I see, I booted into twrp and installed twrp and reboot to recovery, after that I installed the Su 2.79 and then the boot signature.
It booted and it stuck at the boot animation. Maybe I have done something wrong so I did it again. It loaded into system but developer option not available, notification bar didn't come down.
Eventually I did a factory reset and now my lovely XL is rooted and works fine.
Time for adaway and YouTube background play!
