PIXEL XL Turned Into Dark Theme - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Hi Guys, Not sure why but my Pixel XL is now having a dark theme which i did not intend to do so... all the app with white background is now black... in Instagram I can't read the notification because the background turns white (omg)
I rooted the phone and installed Adaway thats all..
Any help will be appreciated

You may have turned on "invert colours". Go to settings- accessibility and check colour inversion toggle. Alternatively, there is also a shortcut tile for "invert colours" which you can toggle after pulling down the status bar.

I tired that, if it's on, even my wallpaper turns haywire. But it didn't and it is off

posting a screenshot would help

Do you have substratum installed? It looks like you've simply themed with substratum

Did you buy it used because it looks exactly like Swift dark theme I use. I know I have dirty flashed before forgetting to wipe theme and it still shows up in some apps

Any fix guys?

I would flash factory image just take the -w out of the flash all bat file so it doesn't wipe your data. Or you can just install the substratum app from the play store and there is a recovery zip inside the folder you can flash in TWRP. Just in case it did have a theme installed

If you're on the newest May factory image with the May bootloader you're going to have to flash chainfire's V3 zip whenever you flash TWRP, SuperSU, or you will lose TWRP and probably loop.
Golf c gave me this guide worked great with su and magisk
to update to May firmware with May bootloader this is how I did it first install may factory firmware with April bootloader's then install your rom and set it up. And root. Then after you root * boot to system. Boot TWRP and install v3 zip. Then Reboot to bootloader and install may bootloader's. Both slots. Then Reboot to system. Good to go. Just remember to flash that v3 zip after you alter boot, like TWRP,magisk, kernel.
You may not have to flash both slots but I did because I have my phone set up that way.

Since I was in slot b with no root, i have just ota updated to may.. i believe bootloader is also may now? Sorry for the noob question

Yes so for you to be able to flash root, and TWRP you need chainfire's new v3 zip. Or you need to fastboot April's bootloader's and not worry about it

really read up on the guide tho, essentially you need to flash that zip each time you are about to reboot from recovery or else it will loop.

I see, I booted into twrp and installed twrp and reboot to recovery, after that I installed the Su 2.79 and then the boot signature.
It booted and it stuck at the boot animation. Maybe I have done something wrong so I did it again. It loaded into system but developer option not available, notification bar didn't come down.
Eventually I did a factory reset and now my lovely XL is rooted and works fine.
Time for adaway and YouTube background play!

[Q] TWRP

I updated the software on my DEB Nexus 7 from KOTH49H to KVT49L and now I can't install TWRP.
Are they in progress of making a new recovery img so that it works or should I revert back to KOT49H?

I originally started out with PA 5.0 BETA but, then I reverted to stock to get the update. Full flash black to 4.4.2 KOT49H then I factory reset it once more to make sure everything is okay. After that I completed the setup Wizard and let all the apps update, after that was done I would reboot the tablet and then activate developer options. I flash using a batch I made that simply boots the tablet into bootloader then it uses the command fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-deb.img and reboots the device. Once it boots up I reboot into recovery and it shows the stock recovery instead of TWRP.

In the process of resetting back to factory, did it relock your bootloader? I ask only because some tools do this automatically. I had to ask.

Nah, I did it manually to see if locking and re-unlocking it would allow TWRP to be flashed but, that didn't work.

Welp, can you BOOT into twrp...i.e. fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-deb.img then you can root it (a suggestion to use goo was here, but forget that).
If you can boot into twrp using the above suggestion, you can at least root and get some stuff done while waiting for a fix or update or someone more knowledgeable than I to solve your issue.
The only thing I can think of is that the bootloader changed and we are back to where you started, waiting for them to update it for your bootloader.

I am browsing the root and it seems like they made a backup file that defaults it back to the original recovery. I am assuming this has something to do with Verizon because they patched a lot of stuff in the update or so it seems.

Hmm, as you probably know there is a file that is normally renamed in the process of installing recoveries to prevent that, my guess is they changed the name or location or added a new one (with a diff name) or did something with the permissions so it could not be renamed, and I'll bet if you boot into twrp and rename that file you'll be able to flash and boot into twrp, though I'd make sure the contents of that file ONLY do that one thing, and that renaming it won't cause it to boot loop.

SuperSU won't install through TWRP

Hello everyone,
I'm facing a very odd issue. I recently installed 7.1.2 from factory image and decided to also install TWRP in order to install a few modifications.
I was able to install the new kernel that allows Android pay to work with unlocked bootloader just fine.
However, I can't install SuperSU for some reason. I'm installing the zip file from TWRP just fine, however when I go searching for the app it's not there, and even if I install it from Google play it's telling me the system is not rooted.
I tried even downgrading a version of TWRP and SuperSU and still no go.
Anyone have any idea what is going on?
Thanks!

Hello,
I'd try reflashing stock boot.img from your 7.1.2 factory image.
The fastboot boot TWRP.img and install TWRP zip.
Install SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/1021/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip
Reboot to system. From here you should have superSU installed.
Reboot to TWRP and install custom kernel zip.
Hopefully it will work...
Good luck...
I will try that, in that order, but before i do, can someone give me a brief explanation on what slot A and slot B are and what they do? I have a feeling it may have something to do with this. I looked for answers on the forums and I wasn't able to find a clear answer.

I basically installed the factory image without the -w flag, turn booted in TWRP (without flashing TWRP) and installed kernel, then flashed super SU then rebooted. Didn't work so I rebooted in TWRP and flashed TWRP and then flashed SuperSU. Note that I had SuperSU installed in 7.1.1 so I assumed it would overwrite. It didn't work so I uninstalled old SuperSU and re-flashed SuperSU 2.79. it still didn't work so I downgraded SuperSU and TWRP one release and reinstalled. Still no go. And that's where I'm at.

Better question is, how do we select what slot stuff gets installed in? It doesn't seem to be clear, more like a game of chance!

Your explanation in the other post and this one are different. Just try in the order from my previous post...
For your information, you can choose the active slot. It's not "like a game of chance". Just use the proper command:
fastboot --set-active=a
Or
fastboot --set-active=b
Good luck...

Sprint Root questions and clarification

Hello XDA, I am trying to figure out all the steps to get mainly Twrp, Magisk, Viper and, Substratum working correctly without any hiccups. I have been reading the forums all day and trying to get all the files necessary to get all that working and the files to revert to stock if it doesn't work. I know after the Bootloader is unlocked I won't be able to relock it due to no Moto signed boot images. I just don't want to brick it and be here with other problems later.
So far I have done the following
1. Installed ADB and Fastboot + Drivers
2. Done everything to get the code to unlock bootloader
3. Downloaded the files to flash twrp from (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/development/twrp-3-1-1-0-moto-z2-force-nash-t3687421)
4. Downloaded the latest stock NCX26.122-59-8 to extract the boot img and patch it with Magisk manager from (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/to-stock-roms-t3672859)
I think I have everything I need to get it rooted. Here's where I get kinda confused. My phone (XT1789-03 Sprint) is on NCXS26.122-59-8-11 November patch (I think the S is for sprint lol). Would It be okay to flash the Magisk patched boot img from the one I downloaded after I unlock the bootloader? Is Twrp necessary? Is there anything else I need to know about? Thanks in advance.
This forum just died? What the hell noone helps anymore???
Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
TWRP is official now. Download the bootable image from https://twrp.me/motorola/motorolamotoz2force.html and the corresponding zip. Boot to twrp and flash the zip. Flash Magisk and install what you want that needs root. Hint: I'd advise the Viper4Android from Magisk modules in the magisk app.

Do NOT flash the twrp img. "Fastboot boot imagename.img" then flash the twrp zip if you wish to have it as your recovery. You can find both on twrp.me.
This hard.. even with instructions u don't know what to flash where and what it will achieve lol. I just want unlock and root. What's the easiest way to do that on sprint z2 force?
So far I understand u need to install twrp to root with magisk, then use twrp to flash magisk Img, then boot up install magisk apk and u should be rooted. Hope I've got that all right.
But do any of the images on this site also unlock gsm on sprint or TMobile?

Not trying to be a **** here, but what exactly do you mean by imagename.img? .. the twrp.img file? and if I don't want TWRP as recovery, then are you saying that it will remain stock if I don't flash the twrp.zip file?
I recently did this on an Essential phone, and the process was: fastboot flash TWRP.img, reboot to TWRP (recovery), flash stock boot.img, then flash magisk.zip.
The last phone I rooted/rommed before that was a Nexus 6, and **** was different then.

Also, @jmagi -- you shouldn't have to manually install the magisk apk. Flashing the magisk.zip in TWRP should result in a Magisk app in your "all apps" next time you boot.

What is the CORRECT way to gain ROOT in PDP3?

I have attempted :
-Fastboot boot TWRP.img
-Reboot Recovery
-TWRP Flash Magisk v16.4
-Reboot into System
Am i missing a Kernel? If so, where is the Kernel for PDP3?
Am i missing a Patched_Boot.img? If so, where is the PDP3 Patched_Boot.img?
What is the correction instruction for gaining ROOT on PDP3?
What else may i be missing from the recipe?
I have searched and asked others via PM or in the Thread, and have received half-ass replies.... So would someone please lay it out, if not, i guess i will go back to 8.1.0....where i had ROOT, Recovery, and Viper4Android... Thank God I made a back-up....

I'm generally curious how many times, and in how many threads, you're going to ask this question.
1) Flash DP3. Let the device boot, log in, set it up, etc.. I do NOT enable a pin/pattern yet.
2) Reboot to the bootloader & fastboot TWRP.
3) Flash Magisk 16.4.
4) Boot into the system & have root.
I've done this process damn near 10x going between dp2/8.1/dp3. There is no special trick to it.

Semantics. OP's post, and general boggle, is that they cannot obtain root on DP3. My response was directly related to the OPs post, and last like 10 comments across this sub. What OP had is presently irrelevant since the current goal is to obtain root. If the OP had an additional question as to how to obtain static TWRP I would have addressed that at a later date/time or your response would have been appropriate. Perhaps I took it for granted that the OP had an understanding on how to get static TWRP but, again, the point of this thread is getting root on DP3 which my response answers & yours does not.

No, flash Magisk unless you want to try a custom kernel. If so, flash it before Magisk, flash Magisk, then reboot.
After flashing magisk, the phone will not reboot, instead keeping me in a bootloop and sending me back into TWRP. Any ideas? Im happy to go back to stock if thatll make my phone work again!

Hey,
I was installing from P (9.0 DP3)
I installed TWRP first by flashing the image and then installing the zip file on to the phone.
Next i installed magisk, the installation all went through absolutely fine.
When i hit reboot, it goes onto the white splash screen, then brings up a small progress bar that goes across. This lasts for a minute or two, then dumps me back into TWRP.
I attempted all ways listed, and i end up Booting into Stock Recovery with a corrupt message forcing me to Power Off or Factory Reset or i got stuck at the Loading "G". Ended up restoring my June 8.1.0 Back up. Thanks for trying to help... I'll wait till there is more info on the subject...

A complete wipe when going to P is the best way to ensure there are no problems but what has worked for me is after installing dp3, rebooting to fastboot, booting to TWRP and doing a factory reset in TWRP. You will not lose data but will have to set your phone up as new. Then, boot back to fastboot and following the instructions as stated in the prior posts to gain root and recovery.

Which version of TWRP are you using (twrp-3.2.1-2 is the latest)? Are you seeing errors in the twrp gui while flashing? I'm not sure what you mean by "more info on it" because it's literally just flash the Magisk zip then reboot. The only things I can think of are that you're using an older version of twrp or the magisk zip is corrupt giving you a bad install.

Yes, always using the latest TWRP Official Builds. No errors in the script. What i mean by more info, is just that, when someone posts a thread, and i see it is working for users without issue, i will take the plunge if this doesnt work this time. And im using Magisk v16.4beta...
I think i am so use to Fastboot boot TWRP3212.img, then flashing the installer and rebooting to switch slots. I'm sure i am just not following something. Do i need to reboot after flashing Installer and before flashing Magisk, or NO reboot?

Don't reboot, TWRP installer installs to both slots.
Flash installer, hit back button, find magisk.zip, flash it.

What happens when you just do this:
Get DP flashed & configured. No passwords/patterns/security features.
fastboot boot TWRP3212.img
Flash your magisk 16.4 file.
Reboot.

[ROM/FW][STOCK]LG V30 (Joan) T-Mobile H932 20r TWRP flashable firmware (incl. ROM)

LG V30 T-Mobile H932 20r ROM
For U.S. T-mobile H932 ONLY. Do NOT install this on any other V30/V30+/V30S except U.S. T-mobile H932. You will brick your phone.
DISCLAIMER : I do not hold responsiblity for any of the following but not limited to : Bricks due to not reading, nuclear war, cat dying. I will not be held responsible for any damage of any kind due to the result of this zip. It is held under your own risk. This does not mean that i wont help in any way shape or form to recover from anything that may happen at the result of flashing this zip. PLEASE FLASH RESPONSIBLY! PS. This zip has NOT been tested by me!
This Rom is 100% Stock. Most recent TWRP should first be installed. Then you can install this Rom and have Oreo with working TWRP.
This zip is created from the original KDZ. It contains almost the complete 20r firmware, but the partition table rewriting part and recovery image is removed. I changed the system.img, so you do not have to reinstall TWRP (recovery-from-boot.p deleted) when ROM once booted. I also changed the partition size of system.img, so the vendorized people can install this too without having problems because of a too small system partition. This is a continuation of westwood24's idea and work, I've updated it to the newest fw version and edited / advanced it a bit. I followed his idea and made this for users who can not take OTA's because they have Custom Recovery / Root installed.
Features
Stock build made from official KDZ
Stock Build.prop
Unrooted
system.img modified to keep TWRP
System image size shrunk for being able to flash this on a smaller system partition, mainly caused by vendorizing
Removed dm-verity
Removed rctd (LG's root checker tool daemon)
Enabled opt-encrypt, it's your choice now if you want to encrypt your phone, it's no more forced. TWRP now is capable of decryption (both AOSP and stock) since a few versions
Added DTS build prop
Added all lockscreen weather animations build prop
Installation
What you need
Unlocked Bootloader [How to do]
Working TWRP installed (should be installed already, otherwise you wouldn't need this zip )[Link to newest unofficial TWRP]
When you need Root, Latest Magisk [Download]
H93220r.zip [Download]
How to install
When you are still on Nougat,
you should start fresh: Reboot to recovery using button combo or reboot app (needs root; btw, Magisk offers this possibility too: Menu -> Modules -> three dot menu top right - Reboot to recovery)
Then flash this TWRP.img via image flashing function in TWRP, reboot to recovery again (for fully working new recovery) and do a backup, then copy this backup to your PC.
Then initiate a factory reset. Wipe your system partition too in TWRP advanced wiping menu, copy the 20r firmware zip to your SD and install it. Reboot and enjoy
From Oreo:
For clean install: Factory reset and wipe system
You can also keep your data by simply dirty flashing the zip. *Be aware that problems may occure, maybe you need to do a factory reset to start fresh*
Flash the 20r zip, then Magisk zip when you need root, then reboot to System = you're DONE
P.S.: could be, that you first need to boot up your fresh install and set it up before you can flash magisk.
At the first time you boot to system, it can be TWRP says No OS installed. You can ignore it.
If TWRP asks if you want to install SU, hit no (in newest TWRP SU is disabled, and the option to install the TWRP app is disabled too.)
Rom Version
Android Version: 8.0 Oreo
Android security patch level: 2019-1-1

Please to anyone who had issues with the zip.....
We have a fix!
Flash this zip
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397908552
Then flash a rom from your SD CARD
ONLY FLASH THIS OF YOU HAD A BRICK FROM 20R!!
Zip is live! Enjoy!
your zip name is wrong.. should be h93220r* ( it doesnt matter but i was confused at first)
also, i flashed it and nothing happened. my system is still the same as i was before (20p)
and in the script, i think it says 'model=VS996' or something. since it just words, it may not matter.
but maybe you used the wrong script for h932
In any case, the zip did nothing for me. flashing only took about 10 secs in total, and flashing system barely took a second.
So seems theres an issue with the zip. Maybe upload didn't quite finish as I did it while at work via rdp to my pc at home. Will look into it when I get off work

At the end of the flash it looks like it flashed fine but then it tells me it failed to mount everything. When I go to reboot into the system it tells me there is no OS. I was just going to flash the 20p zip I had but then it restarted and now I can't get into TWRP again. Now it just restarts into fastboot mode
UPDATE: I was able to get back into TWRP by going through the factory reset option (Volume down + Power, etc.) I'm now flashing the 20p zip I have.
UPDATE 2: Didn't work. Got into a bootloop. Restoring an old Lineage backup I have. Should have made a backup of my current state before flashing but I wasn't thinking
UPDATE 3: That didn't work either. Everything I flash it tells me failed to mount '/persist-lg' and just boot loops. I guess the next thing to do is try and use LGUP to restore
Same here as above. Doesnt mount system persist cache.

Thanks. Searching around, I see there have been people having issues like this before with other devices. Something to do with the persist.img. Did the last zip include one? Also, I hope whatever it is can be fixed with a new zip. I don't know why restoring a backup or flashing an old full stock zip wouldn't fix anything.
This is basically what I'm getting
