my 80g9 works really good with 4.0.7 - Gen9, Gen10 General

Anyone else notice the responsiveness of the touch, smoothness of the tablet and stability as a whole increased with the latest update? Or did I just get lucky.
Sent from my ARCHOS 80G9 using Tapatalk 2

I agree with every point except the touch responsiveness..
As mentioned in the Touchscreen Gaming thread, it is somekind accurate, but not responsive enough.

Agreed. Gaming is no good, but I don't game on it. It's not near the tablet my ipad2 is but since 4.0.7 it's useable and I find myself using it more.

Switch from other phones? Opinions?

Anyone come from other android devices and have opinions on performance, usability, signal, battery life, etc? I'm considering jumping ship from a nexus s. Primarily for the size and battery life, if it is as good as I hear.
Anyone comment on pros/cons vs other android devices you have owned?

Bump.........
Well, I just had 1 smartphone before the Defy, which was a Samsung Galaxy Spica - an Android device as well. It was a piece of ****, often crashing multiple times a day at random, problems with WiFi switching (sometimes causing a system crash) and mobile connectivity (no INet axx occasionally) as well as numerous other issues. These occured using the original firmware. Because of the instability it was basically unusable.
I'm really happy I switched to the Defy, because its a reliable phone, fast and you can actually play some games on it - another thing that was barely possible on the Spica.
Ill totally trade my defy for your nexus s xD

Defy has incredible battery life, sound, touch accuracy. Invincible exterior and nice contour design.
Good rom support and great signal.

Motorola has a locked bootloader. About the only thing bad about this phone.
Compared to the nexus S, slower processor and inferior graphics. I got it because it was incredibly cheap for the performance.

That seems a pretty fair summary.
Though I'd add that whilst the CPU/GPU does sit beneath the Nexus S's performance-wise, it's certainly not an under-powered handset.
The battery is really impressive - I get anywhere between 2 and 4 days, depending on how heavily I use it.
I came from an XT701 moto phone. The specs much lower on that phone and u notice the improved performance with the DEFY. one thing the XT701 was better was camera... very nice xenon!
But the DEFY is much better... much more internal memory, much faster, screen doesn't scratch, have dropped it numerous times... not a single scratch, I scratched up my old phone in 6 months.
I've also done the water testing at the pub and it wasfully submerged in a jug of water... and survived, many in the crowd VERY IMPRESSED!

The Motoblur launcher seems a little laggy. Switched to GoLauncher EX, and it's smooth as. LauncherPro is even smoother, but I prefer Go.
I literally JUST rooted and overclocked it to 1GHz. Pretty easy procedure and runs smoother. It's a really good phone, especially for the price point. Add in the fact that its waterproof and pretty much indestructible makes it awesome.
I am looking at getting this phone on my next contract upgrade, its either the defy or htc desire can anyone point me in the right direction ?

when overclocking, do you lose any battery life? Don't you lose the blur widgets on another launcher? What do the variety of roms out there provide?

I'm still on the standard ROM (2.1), just rooted with SuperOneClick, and using SetVsel to overclock. It's scaleable, and I've noticed better battery life when the phone is on standby (SetVsel settings are force 300MHz when screen off), but it does seem to drain more when used (vsel at 1.1GHz I have as the same as it was at stock 800MHz). Haven't noticed any instability.
I havn't played around with any ROMs yet, I just don't want to waste any more time

This is a good phone, but I'd go for the desire. The reason I got this is because I bought it sim-free, and the desire was about £350, whilst this was £270.
My first Android phone was the G1, then followed by Moto Cliq, HTC Hero, Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro and most recently Samsung Galaxy S.
I'm really glad I switched from the Samsung Galaxy S, even though the processor + graphics aren't as good I feel the Defy still performs much better. Maybe that's because the Defy has more RAM?
I've experienced very little lag, during times when you'd expect very heavy multi-tasking.
The downside is the locked bootloader and lack of firmware updates that Moto displays.
As for battery life, I've had decent results. Most older handsets I used to worry about switching down to 2G to extend the battery life.
Using Setvsel I usually have it clocked at 600mhz and undervolted and everything still runs really smooth.

They're both nice and in performance I think they're roughly equal except the Defy graphics are better and has better battery life.
The Desire will serve you better for Custom ROMs and firmware updates if that's you're main priority. Don't expect the Defy to get anything past FroYo.
As it looks like you're on T-mobile, I'd aim to go through retentions when it comes to upgrade time and back yourself a good deal.

I haven't really reached a limit for the defy's utility yet at 1.1GHz oc, but what I can say for certain is that the LCD's is pretty midrange and it seems that screen on really chews down the battery life as well.
I've seen worse screens (cheaper nokia phones) and better screens (AMOLED, apple iphone and ipod touch screens). It's not really a problem unless you have two or three people trying to see what's going on though.

SG2 and Hardware Acceleration

There's no denying that as it stands the SG2 is the fastest android smartphone out now. I don't own one but based on what i'm hearing its crazy fast. My question is with its speed (thanks 2 the dual-core processor) would it benefit from the hardware acceleration that comes with ICS?? Does the UI in this phone running as smooth as an iphone or the Samsung Galaxy Nexus without hardware acceleration? Or despite its speed does it occasionally still stutter in between screens from time to time or jumping in between apps??
It stutters because we don't have the Exynos. Still pretty badass overall, and hopefully ICS makes it even better.

You can truly fix any lag with good software. It's no different than a ps3 and xbox 360. The ps3 is more powerful but xbox 360 games are easier to program for. Why you think that all multi-platform games run better on the 360 than ps3. Most developers here have massive experience with qualcomm processor. Then with a exynos.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
with the stock rom, it stutters from time to time, when you scroll through the apps list (people who say its just the same, either doesnt pay attention to details, haven't seen how smoother exynos versions run, or are in denial. period). from what ive been reading here, touchwiz is hardware accelerated on phones with exynos. and it is true that good software can fix this problem. i started using beastmod 1.0 rom 3 days ago, and the stuttering (while browsing through the apps list) went away. mostly because of the tweaks. and another thing is, its the smallest file sized rom for our sg2, so far. that means, less load. more free RAM. obviously it'll run faster. the trick is, keep more than 450mb+ RAM free, to keep it silky smooth. at least on my phone, it works.
but one thing for sure. hardware acceleration gives a very big advantage. imagine combining hardware acceleration with these dev's modded roms..
the only con part of the snapdragon is, it is running both cpu and gpu on a single bus lane, which causes more traffic, and can be easily bottlenecked. while the exynos has 2 dedicated lanes, one for the cpu and another for its gpu. giving more space to breathe and run processes smoother, separately. plus exynos' mali-400mp gpu has four cores.
the good side about the snapdragon is its power management. runs on battery much, much longer.
it all boils down to one thing. when ICS comes out, im counting on it to make our phones a lot smoother, not just on a few things that the exynos hardware accelerates, but overall.
people are saying our gpu is much faster, its just not utilized correctly (i dont know how much technically inclined, on the hardware side, those people are). but websites have a variety of benchmark/real world results showing how powerful the exynos gpu really is.
honestly, i really dont care if exynos' gpu is much better, i dont play crysis on my phone. as long as our phone's gpu deliver enough power to be as smooth as the exynos' with ICS, i'll be an even happier camper
i don't know how it's going to be when ICS arrives
but even know the phone feels sooooooo fluid, it's hard to imagine how much better it can get with HW accel
on the I9000 and nexus S it's a night and day difference when you have HW accel apps vs not

Why is the Nexus so laggy compared to other phones?

I mean the frames are just so slow when you press the app drawer button. I even have it rooted and tried different ROMS and kernals, but I'm beginning to think it is ICS itself. I had a Sensation that seemed like it was running at 60 FPS and it was just smooth. When people say that their Nexus phone is running "buttery smooth" I'm sure they're blind. After playing with my girl friends SGS2, I'm completely jealous of how smooth and snappy her phone is compared to mine.
So the question is, why the hell is Nexus or ICS so damn slow and choppy compared to other phones like the SGS2 and my old Sensation?
Its not...are you overclocked? That could cause stutteryness. Maybe you should try restarting he phone or clearing RAM? My phone is buttery smooth, faster than any other phone I've seen.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
i hate to say this, but your either trolling or you have a broken phone.
out of every phone i've owned. (including the Sensation and the Galaxy Note) my GF's Nexus is by far the smoothest out of all of them. the closest one i've owned in 'smoothness' was the Note. followed by the Sensation. difference is the Sensation took 1.7GHz to get to anywhere near smooth. whereas the Note and the Nexus were/are bone stock.
For the 1st time you call the app drawer it could be a bit lag, but I can hardly observe that without this thread.
Maybe its your phone. Have you tried another one? My co-worker just got one and he also has occasional lag when he goes back and fourth from the app drawer to the home screen. He returned it, got another and he was able to duplicate the problem. I've had mine since day one and have never had any lag issues, and yes mine is "buttery smooth", and no I'm not blind. We figured it must be a bad batch.
My Galaxy Nexus is way smoother than my Galaxy S2.
my phone is smooth.
OP is nut. Sorry friend. I am unlocked rooted 4.0.4 no mods at all and this phone is fast as one could hope for.
You must have a software bug or something, my UI is easily hitting the 60fps mark and buttery smooth compared to all my previous android phones.

It just feels like it's frame rate is low. If your looking at your home screen, you have some widgets and press the home button to fly back to the main screen, you can see the frames just drop. It's stupid.

Don't use live wallpapers. Aside from a few of the bundled ones, they're all made for 800x480, and even the optimized ones don't help the framerates.
No worries man, I know what you are talking about but its more to do with the Resolution of the Nexus's screen more than anything. Its pretty taxing on the phone to pull off the resolutions its rendering but it can tweaked to be pretty smooth and fast. The launcher on the Sensation is very optimized whereas the SGS2 is overly powerful that it can run pretty much anything at full blast due to the superior GPU on the SoC. Luckily our phone can run 2D graphics and calculations faster than any other phone on the market even being clocked at 1.2 Ghz.

Well, there are big differences on the Gnex and HTC one X hardware. You cant just think that it will have the same performance.
The question is, do you really need a phone that is 100% smooth?
But android is becoming a heavy OS. Its natural to evolve this way, as well as hardware.

"Need". Otherwise you're probably going to have to buy a new device soon.
I can conquer.
When downloading from the Play store, It is extremely slow on various roms.
I believe the problem is the read\write speeds of the storage which is extremely slow.
too bad
yes, i have the same problem whem the app is installing. Its very slow and laggy. Its important to say that there are many apps for android that are poorly optimized, so even in a powerful hardware you may have some issues.
Considering Gnex is a mid end device, i think soon you have to change your phone to a high end if you want more smoothness and if you are willing to pay the price.

i disagree bro...
if you compare GNex with the smartphones with the same h/w config, u wud definatly agree dat its the best in its generation.
writing to disk normally slows the phone. Probably is more related to the OS than hardware.
No, just 4.2* is junk. Go back to 4.1.2 and you'll see the difference.

LG gpad general lag

So I recently purchased a bargain priced g pad here in the UK. I am currently an Ipad air owner(boooo) but wanted to get an Android tablet and this seemed like my best option. But I have to say that I am really disappointed as it it laggy as hell and the battery life is pretty poor.
Is this normal or am I the proud owner of a dud? The lag occurs in stock launcher and apex. It also happens in browsers, namely chrome, Uc and dolphin. It even lags when browsing threads on tapatalk.
I have factory reset it and no joy. I am outside the 7 day return period and so kind of need to fix the issue if poss.

Is there any other app that lets one fix the black levels? The G Pad without any fixing of the black levels isn't that great for watching shows, movies or playing games where details often can be found in the darker areas. And trading better black levels for more lag (or having to use the Performance governor isn't great). I even noticed watching shows with Screen Adjuster made the FPS a bit jittery (like it's missing frames here and there).
