Some people might be interested to know, that Google Wallet works with my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, using a "Seidio 3800 mAh extended battery with NFC", and the Convert Combo rugged case.
I had to side-load Google Wallet, but it activated and Google gave me $10 to try it.
I went to 7-11 and made a purchase and it works!
For those who have not tried Google Wallet yet, once the cashier rang up the total, I turned on my phone screen, touched the back of the phone to the pay terminal, Google Wallet asked for my PIN, then touch the pay terminal again with phone, and it completed the sale.
Cool, thanks for the info.

So went to order the 2600mah battery from sprint online but they are out of stock. I call the local sprint store and they tell me they have the extended battery for the Evo in stock. I drive over and look at it and it is a 2200mah battery with just a black cover and it is 60 bucks. Since I was unfamiliar with it and the price was too steep for me I did not get it. Has anybody else had experience with these batteries?

I like to see the size of the 2200mah.. Interesting
Some info I forgot. This appeared to be a 3rd party battery as it didn't have the sprint logo on the package and not that I could see through the plastic. I was going to pop it open to look at the manufacturer but they wouldn't let me do it without purchasing it. But for that price I will hold out for either the 2600 to get back in stock online or get a seidio. This was at a Sprint/Touchtone wireless store.
After some googlin I am 99% sure it is this battery. And the touchtone store is charging $59 for it:
http://www.neweggmall.com/Product/2...CE-GoogleSearch-_--_-Electronics-_-2016118300
If I was going to buy it I would get it from newegg because they have a good return policy.
FYI They appear to be back in stock http://shop.sprint.com/NASApp/onlinestore/en/Action/OSBrowseAccessoriesDetail?categoryRefName=Chargers+%26+Batteries&PHONE_ID=APA9292KT&selectedAccessoryID=&topPageNumber=0&subPageNumber=1
Looks same as the "3500mah" battery from ebay, which I purchased for 8.64$ shipped.
You must be at a 3rd party Sprint store, as corporate Sprint Stores only carry the 2600 in Sprint packaging and nothing else. We do not carry ANYTHING not packaged with Sprint white packaging.
We have not started carrying any other mah batts other than what comes in the box and those extendeds at 2600. In fact in store we only carry the extended, the regulars are carried online ONLY (and only in black no reds...yet).
For some reason it is not a part of our min/max on push orders. I am part of the receiving end of logistics as a corporate tech so can advise you anytime about the corporate store inventory.
A lot of 3rd party store can be very deceivingly "sprint" looking even down to the employees uniforms, however, when you see packaging or different items in there that are NOT packaged in regular Sprint packaging the store is most definately NOT corporate.
Yes it was at a touchtone wireless "sprint" store.
All,
Just installed Google Wallet and can't wait to use it. I also purchased a hard case for my Galaxy Nexus and wondering if the NFC will still work when I have my case on.
Thanks for any info!
If it's just a thin plastic case, it should. The range is only a couple of centimeters though, so it really depends on what you'll be using.
Thanks All!! I just picked up the Incipio feather Ultralight Hard Shell...just wanna make sure NFC will still work with the case on.
Thanks again!
this may be the wrong section to ask this question but i went to pay with google wallet last night and i was unable to do so. i have money on the card and i tapped the phone on the pad. no luck, do i need to keep it out of the case or is there something else im missing?
I have the Incipio Silicrylic case (2 piece) on my stock LTE GN and was able to use wallet no problem yesterday. I launched the app while my son was picking out a drink, entered my pin, and waited for the cashier to ring him up. When payment time came, I rested the phone on the paypass receiver, within a couple seconds, the receiver lit up and the phone says something like transaction successful. Hope that helps.
yes it does ill try it again tonight
Ok. I did this just last night, and had similar problems....but...
First off, I have the Otterbox case. NFC works just fine with it. I maybe had it roughly an inch above the swipe pad and it worked. So I don't really see any cases as being a problem.
Next, I had the same problem. At first, it just wasn't working. In fact, it wasn't working at all at first. Then I realized something, I had Task Killer installed and that was the problem. While you don't have to have Google Wallet be 'active', the program does in fact have to be 'running in the background' in order for it to actually work. I started up Google Wallet and low and behold, it worked (after I input my code of course). I added an exemption for Google Wallet, and now it doesn't get auto-closed. 20 chicken nuggets and a double cheeseburger for free, I'm not going to complain.
I have an Otterbox, too, and it worked just fine at McDonalds last night.
Ignore in Task Killer
I could ask WHY you are using a task killer with ICS, but I must admit I have it installed on my LTE GN. It automatically restored when I upgraded as it was a must on my rooted LZ Revo.
Make sure you ignore GWallet in the task killer if you must have it, or just launch the app when you are getting ready to make a purchase.
I was looking around on verizonwireless.com and couldn't find any extended battery's for the Gnex. I know they sell them, so I talked to a rep on the chat, and they said they didn't. Does anyone have a part number that I can reference?
Edit 1: After searching around it looks like SAMI515BATX is that part number. I only wonder why they stopped carrying them already
i believe the extended battery is aftermarket

nope verizon sells them too.
Try calling a local store. That is where I bought mine.

I couldn't find it on VZW site either so, I just went to the store.
I bought mine from their website right before they sold out for $25. For some reason when they sell out, they completely remove it from the site.
If you call your local store, they may have one or they could order one for you and you pick it up there.

It is made by Samsung.
I was just in my local Verizon store and they had some available. I am talking about the Samsung extended battery not a third party one.
Be warned that with the extended battery and extended battery cover, the back cover creaks if you push on it and also creaks when pushed down on a table. (This is worse than with the standard battery cover. I also have a volume rocker that rattles. Overall I am not impressed with the build quality of these phones but I will stay with it for the software.)
I bought the extended battery right from Samsung - Verizon was sold out.
I don't notice any creaking or squeaking from the extended battery door at all.

Hate to be "that guy", but mine doesn't creak. I remember on the Droid 1 there were some battery cover issues and they were fixed by simply putting a small folded piece of paper between the battery and the cover. The number of folds were determined via trial and error.
Good luck.
I don't want to sound like a damper, but I just bought a Nexus off WireFly and am not sure an extra 250 MiH is worth $25? What are your perceptions/experiences?
Is it likely Verizonwireless.com will restock? I want to buy one but I can't find it anywhere for $25. The local VZW stores are charging full retail $50 I'm sure right?

I do not experience any creaking whatsoever with my extended battery and cover.

I did not use the standard battery all that long but from the week on the standard battery and going to the extended, on average I got an extra 1/4 of a day out of it. Also, I mainly stayed on the 3G on the standard battery but leave LTE on all the time on the extended.

I tried to complain to the store about it and see if I could get another that was more solid and they claimed that they all did it. (Probably just too lazy to try another one.) So I ended up using a small rectangle of fabric below the camera to make it feel solid.

I always get extra batteries for my phones just incase, ill keep one fully charged in the car, so for $20(corp discount) it was a steal. both battery doors, standard or extended do not creak on mine nor do my volume keys rattle.
Hi All,
I've set up Google Wallet (Flash: 1.1-R41v8, APK: 1.1-R48v4) using the APK here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
So far, the Google Prepaid MasterCard has only worked at one location, CVS (after the cashier pushed credit). The phone has failed to react at all to tap-to-pay readers at McDonald's, Tim Horton’s and Coke machines. I've even ensured that both the phone and Wallet app were unlocked prior to tapping the reader, which should not be necessary. You get really wired looks when trying to pay with your phone does not work.
My only theory at this point is that my OtterBox Defender case is preventing the necessary proximity the NFC chip needs to detect the reader, or it is blocking the RF somehow. I do know that CVS had a different reader than everyone else. Perhaps it has a stronger signal?
Has anyone else had issues with NFC and an OtterBox case? What have your success rates been with Google Wallet transactions?
I'm planning on testing Google Wallet without my case soon; I'll post the results here.
I've seen other reports about an Otterbox case and NFC, pretty much any thick case will cause issues and if there's any sort of metal in it you're pretty much completely out of luck. I've never had any issue with my naked Nexus at McDonalds or 7-11, at least not until people whined that they couldn't figure out a lockscreen and they broke my prepaid card access...
Hey guys. Can someone direct me to the best place to buy NFC tags? I want ones that can hold the most data for the lowest price, and I would like them to also be a little sturdy, unlike some of the sticker NFC tags. Also, what is the best application to program these? Make sure these all work with the Galaxy Nexus (LTE). Thanks
I got mine from here: http://tagsfordroid.com
They are great. The keychain is very handy for my car setup.

For some reason, I bought my tagsfordroid NFC tags from Amazon instead of directly from them... both were the same price, both had free shipping. At any rate, the keychain alone was worth the price of the entire package. I have mine set as an "escape" function that someone else here posted. Basically, I keep the keychain in my pocket, and if I wave my phone over my pocket, it will trigger the tag, send a text message to the website ifttt.com, which will trigger a phone call to my phone that says "You need to come home now, it's an emergency, it's bad!"
So if I am ever in need of an escape, like a bad date, I have an escape, lol!
hhaha thats such a good idea
