Hi All,
I've set up Google Wallet (Flash: 1.1-R41v8, APK: 1.1-R48v4) using the APK here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
So far, the Google Prepaid MasterCard has only worked at one location, CVS (after the cashier pushed credit). The phone has failed to react at all to tap-to-pay readers at McDonald's, Tim Horton’s and Coke machines. I've even ensured that both the phone and Wallet app were unlocked prior to tapping the reader, which should not be necessary. You get really wired looks when trying to pay with your phone does not work.
My only theory at this point is that my OtterBox Defender case is preventing the necessary proximity the NFC chip needs to detect the reader, or it is blocking the RF somehow. I do know that CVS had a different reader than everyone else. Perhaps it has a stronger signal?
Has anyone else had issues with NFC and an OtterBox case? What have your success rates been with Google Wallet transactions?
I'm planning on testing Google Wallet without my case soon; I'll post the results here.
I've seen other reports about an Otterbox case and NFC, pretty much any thick case will cause issues and if there's any sort of metal in it you're pretty much completely out of luck. I've never had any issue with my naked Nexus at McDonalds or 7-11, at least not until people whined that they couldn't figure out a lockscreen and they broke my prepaid card access...

Has anyone used this case? I bought the kickstand case and after 3 weeks the bottom half of the kickstand broke off. I was thinking of getting the credit card case because in L.A. we have these things called Tap cards for bus passes. You just tap it onto a sensor and it'd be easier for me to tap my phone and put the card in the slots. Is the case fine? Is the plastic between the slots and the back of the thick or just right for sensors to maybe reach it?
Sorry for writing so much!
Thank You.

I don't know about those cases but that's a great idea! I wouldn't mind having one for a pay pass debit card. They work on the same concept.

i have the case mate for the mt4g. it hold up to 3 cards. works amazingly. not sure about your bus pass though
I've used that case since December of last year. It's a really nice case and it holds 2 cards, but I managed to fit one more, lol. As far as the Tap card goes, I'm not sure. Never tried it. I always had the Tap in my pocket. Not so sure if it'll work since it is a little thick.
I have one really convenient
Where did you guys find this case with credit card slot?
please link.
^google "casemate mytouch 4g"
I love mine, had it on since I bought phone last year. It is only good for 2 cards though, I have found 3 makes it too tight to pull them out. It has literally saved my phone from a lot of damage.

Planning on picking this up at local TMO store today after work. They have em on sale for $15, and my best skins ever is peeling off, so I figured why not? I like the idea of the card holder...any more updated reviews on this case? Does it protect decently? Not too bulky?
UPDATE in case anyone reads this thread: The $15 price was only for online TMO, in-store was still $35. But I wound up getting it on Amazon for $10
Quick review: Love the case. It adds a little bulk to the back of the phone (due to the slot for cards), but not much - and I consider it worth it because I can fit: my drivers license, my bank card, my metro pass, and my gym key card all in the space provided; which means I don't have to carry my wallet around, so the slight bump in the back of the phone is worth it to me. (Side note that makes this case more beneficial: there's growing evidence to support that carrying a wallet in your back pocket can lead to serious back problems).
All,
Just installed Google Wallet and can't wait to use it. I also purchased a hard case for my Galaxy Nexus and wondering if the NFC will still work when I have my case on.
Thanks for any info!
If it's just a thin plastic case, it should. The range is only a couple of centimeters though, so it really depends on what you'll be using.
Thanks All!! I just picked up the Incipio feather Ultralight Hard Shell...just wanna make sure NFC will still work with the case on.
Thanks again!
this may be the wrong section to ask this question but i went to pay with google wallet last night and i was unable to do so. i have money on the card and i tapped the phone on the pad. no luck, do i need to keep it out of the case or is there something else im missing?
I have the Incipio Silicrylic case (2 piece) on my stock LTE GN and was able to use wallet no problem yesterday. I launched the app while my son was picking out a drink, entered my pin, and waited for the cashier to ring him up. When payment time came, I rested the phone on the paypass receiver, within a couple seconds, the receiver lit up and the phone says something like transaction successful. Hope that helps.
yes it does ill try it again tonight
Ok. I did this just last night, and had similar problems....but...
First off, I have the Otterbox case. NFC works just fine with it. I maybe had it roughly an inch above the swipe pad and it worked. So I don't really see any cases as being a problem.
Next, I had the same problem. At first, it just wasn't working. In fact, it wasn't working at all at first. Then I realized something, I had Task Killer installed and that was the problem. While you don't have to have Google Wallet be 'active', the program does in fact have to be 'running in the background' in order for it to actually work. I started up Google Wallet and low and behold, it worked (after I input my code of course). I added an exemption for Google Wallet, and now it doesn't get auto-closed. 20 chicken nuggets and a double cheeseburger for free, I'm not going to complain.
I have an Otterbox, too, and it worked just fine at McDonalds last night.
Ignore in Task Killer
I could ask WHY you are using a task killer with ICS, but I must admit I have it installed on my LTE GN. It automatically restored when I upgraded as it was a must on my rooted LZ Revo.
Make sure you ignore GWallet in the task killer if you must have it, or just launch the app when you are getting ready to make a purchase.
Some people might be interested to know, that Google Wallet works with my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, using a "Seidio 3800 mAh extended battery with NFC", and the Convert Combo rugged case.
I had to side-load Google Wallet, but it activated and Google gave me $10 to try it.
I went to 7-11 and made a purchase and it works!
For those who have not tried Google Wallet yet, once the cashier rang up the total, I turned on my phone screen, touched the back of the phone to the pay terminal, Google Wallet asked for my PIN, then touch the pay terminal again with phone, and it completed the sale.
Cool, thanks for the info.
Hey guys. Can someone direct me to the best place to buy NFC tags? I want ones that can hold the most data for the lowest price, and I would like them to also be a little sturdy, unlike some of the sticker NFC tags. Also, what is the best application to program these? Make sure these all work with the Galaxy Nexus (LTE). Thanks
I got mine from here: http://tagsfordroid.com
They are great. The keychain is very handy for my car setup.

For some reason, I bought my tagsfordroid NFC tags from Amazon instead of directly from them... both were the same price, both had free shipping. At any rate, the keychain alone was worth the price of the entire package. I have mine set as an "escape" function that someone else here posted. Basically, I keep the keychain in my pocket, and if I wave my phone over my pocket, it will trigger the tag, send a text message to the website ifttt.com, which will trigger a phone call to my phone that says "You need to come home now, it's an emergency, it's bad!"
So if I am ever in need of an escape, like a bad date, I have an escape, lol!
hhaha thats such a good idea
Hi all,
Anyone here with the Google Fabric Case experiencing problem with NFC detection? The case seems to be too thick to allow NFC to pass through.
Kinda weird considering the case is endorsed and sold by Google but to make a Google Pay payment, I need to remove the case first.
Anyone else experience the same issue or my case is one of a kind?
Thank you.

I don' use Pay, but I use NFC to connect to my BT speaker almost every day with no issues. The range of NFC is supposed to be 2-4 inches. The fabric case is really not any thicker than any other case out there. Have you installed a metal plate inside the case for a magnetic mount?
That's what I thought too. But first time I tried to pay using NFC and nothing happened, I thought it was a problem with my phone. So i went home and experimented with placing a NFC enabled card all over my phone but nothing happened.
As soon as I took off the fabric case, the card was detected immediately. Very strange indeed.
Nope. It's just my pixel xl 2 and the case, nothing in between...
:crying:
I have the fabric case and have noticed Google Pay acting extremely finicky the entire time I've had the phone. It was instantaneous on the Pixel XL and Nexus 6P.
Just curious do you guys know where is the nfc reader on the pixel XL 2? Im guessing under the back glass I might be wrong...
