Hi I'm having trouble finding a good guide to downgrade my Verizon Xperia play from version 2.3.4 to 2.3.3 so that I may root my phone.
Does anyone know of one, that I may use?
Thank you.
Watch this video. It worked for me and is the only known way to downgrade and root.

Also a little tip: To make things much easier on yourself, before you go back to an ICS ROM (or whatever), make a nandroid. You can just flash another GB kernel when you want to go back and then restore the nandroid. Makes switching much, much easier.

He can't make a nandroid to downgrade because he needs to downgrade in order to root. Without root, he doesn't have a custom recovery in able to make a nandroid backup

or acknowledge that i'm asking a question, so without further ado
i want to flash the kernel to fix the 30fps cap on the novatek panel, but i don't want to do it without a way to fix it encase i want to get rid of it. i believe it's the stock boot.img i need but where do i find it and how do i flash it.
again sorry for the stupid question.
Flash whatever you want. Running any of the three RUU files will restore everything on your phone to stock unrooted and make it returnable.
If you flash the latest RUU, you won't be able to every root again (for now), so be sure you are returning it in that case.
Take a nandroid backup before flashing the new kernel. If you don't like the changes, restore your backup.
Hey, can anyone tell me the risks of rooting/using a custom ROM and such?
very hard to muck it up with unrevoked, just follow the instructions. dead simple.
Meant having it rooted
well, you wont get OTA updates, but the plus sides are you get custom roms that are tailored for whatever you want, speed, looks, etc, plus aps2sd, the main reason i took the plunge...
Yeah, but I can always return to factory defaults and then get the OTA updates right?
using clockworkmod recovery that is installed when you use unrevoked, make a nandroid backup, use restore to go back to original state, then you will get OTA again, no point though, just pick another rom! I can recomend Roufianos.com Desire V6 rom, had no trouble yet. happy rootin....
Thanks for the advice.

Hi, I just got the Epic 4G Touch today. I plan to root the phone in about a month after playing with it on Stock Rom. there is an update that Sprint wants me to do. if I do it will I'll be ruin the chances to Root my phone later?.
The current update won't affect your ability to root. A future update might affect how easy it is to root. So this update is ok, but before future updates you should check back again.

You can root before or afterwards, doesn't make a huge difference. I would recommend after you upgrade that you stick with the stock rom for a day or two to get a feel for how things are working on stock. Then when/if you install custom ROMs or make changes, you will have a baseline to compare to for figuring out what is causing issues you might encounter.
You can go back to the original ROM if you want. There are multiple ways to do it. You can use the EG30 ODIN tar in my signature. Alternatively if you want to root right now, use the Auto Root thread in my signature to root (Option A) and install EG30+CWM (Option C). From there, boot into CWM and make a CWM/nandroid backup of your system. That will be an exact image of what you are currently running, except for the modem. That way it is easier to go back to where you started. You can put the EG30 modem back using other means. The CWM/nandroid backup gets you 95% of the way there.
sfhub : thanks for all your help. this community has been great to me. thanks so much!!!
Good day! My wife has her phone rooted with the stock 4.54 ROM that was in her phone when I rooted it. Has anyone come up with a way to update her phone to the current 4.67 version without losing root?
I know that I can just get a rooted, stock 4.67 ROM and flash it, but that is going to freak her out...starting over, so to speak. I guess like a few others I'm waiting for a rooted 4.67 update for a 4.54 ROM. If anyone knows of anything that can help, it would be great. If I could just let her upgrade and then re-root it using revolutionary, I certainly would.
Thank you for your time.
Only option is to back everything up in titanium backup, mybackup root, ultimate backup pro or something similar flash a stock rooted rom and restore all the apps and data for contacts just sync to Google and SMS use SMS backup/restore from market
We are legion, for we are many

You could just do a nandroid, then wipe just cache & dalvik cache (I'd probably wipe boot and system too), then flash one of the stock rooted ROMs. That would preserve all the data, though it might cause some instability. But if it doesn't, you're golden. I might play around with actually putting together a rooted OTA zip, though I personally don't see a need for it. But that's a project for tomorrow.....
Thanks for the input, folks. I guess I'm going to go with the full backup of everything and flash the rooted stock. She'll just have to deal with it.
Have a great day!
Get Titanium or My Backup. She will lose call log and SMS. If this is an issue the get SMS backup. I flash a different ROM atleast twice per week and it is simple with Titanium. It usually puts every app back before I even open titanium. If something is missing you just go in and click restore.

So, per my post above, I was able to put together a rooted version of the OTA, but there are some restrictions on its use, unfortunately. It'll only work if you are currently rooted, and haven't removed any system apps. The OTA looks for each file that needs to be patched and if one is missing, it'll error out.
If you want to try it, let me know. All you have to do is flash it in recovery, actually. It's just like any other zip.
Hi,
I've had enough of custom ROMs for now and want to go back to stock 4.0.4, without having to go through the whole unlock bootloader, root process - all the guides I find seem to say this is the only way, however what I want is a CWM-flashable stock ROM.
Is this possible or do I have to go back to square one (I still want root)?
Thanks,
Sahajesh
I give u a clue. Its in the galaxy nexus forum development section.

It is possible. You (or someone) has to package the stock system and boot images into a CWM-flashable package. It's not too difficult.

So you must already be unlocked then... Why not just fastboot (or heaven forbid even use a toolkit) the stock images and be done with it?
