I just realized today I use a screen protector and a case to protect a phone even though I baby my phone. I also realized my sp gets easily scratched and looks like ****. And the case adds bulk and isn't as nice as the phone. Hmmm. I guess the case protects from shock that's how I'll rationalize it. Do you over protect? How do you rationalize it?

I have a Zagg screen protector and the Androdified CruzerLite TPU case on my phone, and I think it's just fine. I baby every phone I own, so I don't usually go for the full protection on my phones. But this is the best phone I've ever owned by far and it's the most I've spent on a phone, so I gotta protect this phone well.

I do, I use a case and a screen protector. I think the screen protector is normal however. I sometimes take out the case at home to admire the beauty then put it back on.

I use a zagg as well lol. I was using my phone case less the other day but I mean in six months or so I'll be selling it and a mint phone is worth more on eBay lol. New way to rationalize my paranoia.

Having a good case and screen protector isn't really overprotecting your phone.. It doesn't matter how careful you are or how much you may baby your phone, accidents happen and not everyone can afford to replace their phone when it gets dropped and broken.
I use only a case. The oleophobic coating is just too hard to resist. Screen protectors ruin the experience.

I use a screen protector, a hard silicone case and when I'm at work (car factory) I also use a zip lock bag to keep out the weld/iron dust, biggest killer for a mobile, gets into speaker and does all sorts of nasty stuff.

I've used an otterbox defender (built in screen protector) since I got the phone. Recently bought and applied a Zagg protector on a whim thinking maybe I'll carry it around without the case and this will help with that.
Now I'm thinking that may have been a mistake since when it comes down to it, I picture myself dropping it, or standing up while it's in my lap (did that with my old phone all the time getting out of cars), and cracking the screen or something else fatally expensive. The phone is nice and sleek on its own but honestly I don't think of it as being clunky or anything in the case. I've got these big hands, might as well use them.
The zagg and the otterbox's screen protector are definitely excessive together though. And they stick together from time to time. Could pop off the otterbox's, but then gunk might accumulate inside the case as it won't be sealed... could take off the Zagg, but then I have to confront the buyer's remorse.
no screen cover/protector or case. but i treat it with care, my pocket or holding it with care. it's been 6 months still no scratch.
Can't find a case so i ran it with only a matt screen protector..
So far dropped 3 times after owning it for 1 month, had a few small scratches though, not noticeable unless you go hunt for it.
several cases but my phone still has a full body skin from bestskinsever. i'm just careful in putting the case in and taking it out so that the skin won't get messed up. also have a pouch when i only bring the phone with the skin on. all my gadgets are like that. i guess, yes, i over protect but then again, i like to baby my phone. no issues since new in feb and hopefully none in the future.
I bought Xoskins screen protectors because people were saying there was no orange peel like Zagg...
My experience is if you look at the screen at an angle in a well lit room or outside you can still see that "pebbly" orange peel effect.
Would like to try something else, but don't care to throw the money at it.
No. I have faith in my devices build quality. It has yet to fail me.

Used to use a screen protector and a TPU case. Then I realized that I am extremely careful with my phone and this phone is beautiful. No need for either anymore and enjoy the phone a lot more.
when I had my nexus s...I had full body ghost armor on it....and then also had a matte tpu case on the phone as well.
I did this as my nexus won't get micro scratches from the matte case I had on my phone...I know I am very strict with my phone..lol

I've tried a few screen protectors now and I hate them all. The Gorilla Glass seems to hold its own without one at all, plus it feels much smoother when scrolling on the screen. Just try not to have piles of keys or rocks in your phone pocket and you'll be fine. I've had mine since it launched in February and have had no issues so far.
Realook by far is the best one I have tried, and I have tried many. You gain security without any drawbacks. Don't knock it till you try it. Have had this protector on my phone for several months now and several small scratched have shown up on it. It's $5.50, plastic and takes a beating so my real screen doesn't have too. (Obvious point, no one scratches their phone screen on purpose, the point of a protector is not to protect your phone from normal daily use when you are being careful, but for the times when **** just happens and there was nothing you could do about it. That's when having these things are most important / useful).

I say get a screen protector and don't leave the gorilla glass naked. I babied my phone for a week before I got anything on it... then two scratches from god knows what. Gorilla glass will NOT hold up to minute particles of nothingness in your pocket so be aware.
I personally like the marquee splash screen protectors (I think that's the name) that are on amazon. Clear, feels like the normal screen, went on fine.
I tried ghost armor at first and I hated it.. it had orange peel and dented really easily. It seemed to shrink over time, too, which is weird..

Gorilla Glass is bull**** man. I took off my old screen protector because there was a minute imperfection in it and cleaned it with a brand new lint free cloth and now there are 3 tiny scratches in the glass. I mean with the new screen protector you can't really see it, but it's such bull****.
ZAGG Invisible Shield.
Lifetime warranty FTW!
I think i order BestSkinksEver total body skin.
I had bad experience with Zagg, i just don't like it.
Thank you all
I accidentally sat on my phone wearing jeans with rivets for about 15 minutes; no scratches. I still wouldn't put it in my pocket naked though. But no protector.

Do you have it installed on your Atrix? I installed on my son's iPod touch 17 months ago and it still hasn't peeled. Then I did my Dad's iPhone 4 8 months ago and the front is still looking great. Not sure why I didn't do my Atrix yet.
Edit: I added Moto ruggedized battery cover for minimalistic grip to phone. Really like it so far. In stock at cnn.cn.

Yes that's true, you can actually call it an OP magnet but we're talking about screen protector here and I dont think there's anything else that can protect your screen but the Invisible Shield by zagg.... I have speck casing on my atrix with the invisible shield for the screen and I accidentally dropped it like 3-4 feet high on its flatscreen and not even a scratch on the screen.... my co-worker bought an atrix too and with it he also got a speck casing and one of those screen protector from at&t store, couple of days later while we were talking about our atrices/atrixes he accidentally dropped it in front of me and when he picked it up the screen was cracked! He was mad as hell because he didnt listen to me... lol
I mean the stuff they show on their demos is for real, I've used invisible shield on each of my phone for so many years now and each of them were protected by invisible shield... yes the invisible shield is a orange peel/lint magnet but you can easily wipe them off, I guess for me I'd be more concern about the protection of my phone and not the OPs
I tried an extra Skinomi protector a friend had and it developed bubbles a couple weeks after installation. Then I got a SGP Steinheil Ultra Crystal and I'm extremely happy with it. My friends who also have Atrix couldn't even tell it had a protector on. Plus it isn't a wet install and takes just a couple of minutes to put on. It's the hard plastic type and very slightly drags more than the bare screen but it's hardly noticeable, especially in comparison to the soft plastic type like Skinomi.
i got zagg just because i got tired of the fingerprints that attract to the glass. before i got it though, the screen was exposed to some harsh conditions at my job, and did not scratch or anything; so it is a tough screen
Invisible shield's original screens were pretty bad op, but I've had one on my evo for nearly a year now and it's just as good as the day I installed it.
They have a new formula that is SUPPOSED to be less op, but it's only for the iPhone right now

Just wondering. After using my iphone 4 for about a year with an iphone bumper I eventually took it off. Along with the screen protector. When I bought the one X I decided not to purchase a case. Although the phone can feel slippery at times, I just make sure to pinch both sides of the phone. (thumb on the screen, middle finger on the back of the phone) when reaching into my pocket to pull it out. Anyone else not using a case that might of regretted it?

I have a case but I only use it when I go mountain biking. I think cases are FUGLY, particularly on the sexy One X. As for screen protectors, if you can apply it flawlessly its okay. However, its next to impossible to apply it flawlessly, so I never use them either.
Got my one x for three weeks now, no scratches and such. The reason could be that im still using my DHD a lot. thinking bout to get full body screenprotector.
Mostly I don't bother with a case, but now and then I use the htc v701 case
you can see this thread i made = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681427
TBH, if I worked in an office or a clean indoors enviroment then I probably wouldnt use a case, the handset would just slip into a shirt/trouser (pants for the americans here) pocket.
I work outside a lot though, often have dirty hands and sites I work on have hardcore all around… drop my phone on that, then its screwed.
Dont use a SP though, hate them, spoils the lovely feel of the glass.
To be honest though, I dont tend to have phones for more than 6 months, so like to keep them as nice as possible if I decide to sell them on ebay.
Steve
Hi
I've been using my phone without case or protection... But since I accidentally dropped it and the back got some scratches, I feel like there should be a case back there, you know, just in case
Also screen protector is not necessary since it has Gorilla Glass, but I saw a topic here about people getting scratches on the screen, so if you're comfortable with them, that wouldn't hurt either

I use to be real careful with phones, treating them like little babies lol but overtime you just get use to your phone then your not so delicate with it. Although I probably should throw a case on mine since I work as a mechanic, another reason why I didn't get the white one lol

I did too until my last phone caught an STD. (Sudden Tarmac Destruction)
Joking aside, I found that the HOX was a lot harder to operate one handed in comparison to my Sensation and came close to dropping it a few times.
For the last couple of days I've been using this and I'm finding the phone a lot more secure in my hand and easier to operate one-handed. It adds very little bulk to the phone and I'm delighted with it.
I just need to find a car mount now that will fit with the cover on as it's a bit fiddly to remove the cover.

I have ordered an HTC One X, just waiting for it to get in stock. I don't think I'll be using it with a case. I never did with my O2x. I handle my phones with care. Partly due my appreciation of having the privilege to afford such devices, but also because it ups the re-sale value. I'll probably get a screen protector though.
The phone looks so damn good without the case but as it's a wee bit too large to fit in pockets when you're sitting down I decided to put a case on it. Tried two cases, metal skin and aprolink, settled with this one:
http://creativemylife.com/htc-one-x-aprolink-designed-case-ceramic-red.html
Screen protectors, I simply hate the cheap ones you get off ebay and the like, you always get bubbles, so I bought a good one and for the first time I was able to find a screen protector that's bubble free:

So my SPG GLAS came in the mail yesterday. I've had some time to fool around with it, so I thought I'd post some of my more detailed impressions as well as some pics.
The biggest surprise of the entire product was its size. The GLAS does NOT cover the entire phone, but stops short a couple of millimeters on all sides - actually, right before the screen starts curving. It does make your screen feel smaller, and does remove that wonderful edge-to-edge glass feeling, but it doesn't impair functionality.
It does fit well - all cutouts are perfectly aligned, IF you can put it on perfectly. Mine was shifted just down and to the right, which made the Samsung logo under the speaker grill look a bit odd. But the soft key backlighting did turn out - when the light is on, it's impossible to tell that it's actually coming from a layer behind the GLAS. Maybe it's because its so thin - especially of you have a case that is raised around the edges, and even if you don't, it hardly seems thicker with than without the GLAS.
And glas(s) it is. The surface feels extremely smooth and infinitely better than any wet screen protector. I don't have the Curved Crystal, so I can't compare to that, but this does feel *very* slick. But it's not perfect. If you have SHS (sweaty hands syndrome) like me you'll notice a little bit of friction increase over the original screen, but not much. Overall, it feels awesome.
And then you turn your phone on. And try to swipe to unlock, but nothing happens. Really. Touch responsiveness is noticeably decreased with the GLAS. Especially while typing. It's fine if you make a conscious effort to press a little harder, but it has almost driven me crazy when keys don't register, when it mistakes a swipe for a tap in the app drawer, or when my screen doesn't unlock. If you're a more deliberate or heavy-handed user, this probably won't affect you, but those of use who use Swiftkey like a crutch and fly through homescreens like there's no tomorrow, you might want to stick with a dry protector like the Curved Crystal.
...And here are some pics. Feel free to ask me anything, just don't expect to get answered instantly.

Was about to buy this, after seeing this, imma stick with my belkin anti-glare..
Of course, the ideal would be something like Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) Diamond on top of the original GG2 face. Hmmm... maybe I just invented GG3?
That would have to be the ultimate scratch resistance but would of course not help you when it comes to dropping the phone.
Having said that, there is no after market "screen protector" that will stop the glass actually breaking.
I got the SGP Ultra Crystal protectors for my gs3 and my Nexus 7 and I am very impressed. Can't even tell they are on there and they clean up amazingly hardly leaving finger prints at all...it feels like I don't even have one on. They made a glass version for the Galaxy Note 2 that is supposedly even better than the Ultra Crystal, but people are reporting it's too thick and is making the S-Pen hard to use.
I was about to buy the Zagg HD invisi-shield, well I actually did buy it at Best Buy at the recommendation of a friend, but when I got home and looked up reviews I was astonished to see it was awful, and I paid $25 for it. I then listened to everyone in the thread and got the SGP Ultra Crystal dry protectors for $13 comes with 2. I am very happy with my purchase. I just ordered one for my Note 2, bout to get one for my iPad.

im honestly not certain how some people can be having so many problems.
(im not saying that there can't be...)
I have the Zagg HD with a case on my phone and it covers pretty much everything that I could want, its nice and clear, it's stayed on well, it feels way nicer than the old Zagg screen protectors ( you can still feel it) but my finger glides very nicely on it, it cleans off well.
the only problem I've heard about it that people dont like is that it dents easily ( I haven't managed to dent it yet except for while I was applying it.
people are saying the dents don't go away....and after I dented mine I was worried that would be the case for me too, but sure enough, 2 days later, I noticed the dents were gone.
Now...I got mine for 50% off ($10) would I pay $20? eh......yeah...but I might investigate some other options first.
now...as far as wrecking the phone...nah, be careful don't get a ton of solution in any of the holes, and make sure you have the battery out when you do it. I'd also leave the battery out for a few hours if you really want to be careful but I tossed mine back in almost immediately.
There are many peoole who are unhappy with this zagg after googling. Most of the review are only half good. I think I will skip this. And get the curved spigen

It just got worse and worse and worse, I couldn't bear it. They then want to charge you for shipping and handling to get it replaced, which is AFTER you send it back. It's so stupid. It's not just phones either, I had a zagg on my iPad 2 a few years back that did the same. I got it for the S3 because I assumed they would realize their stupidity. Oh well.
Where did you get yours? Link please .
I ordered the Spectre glass, hopefully that does the job.

Zagg is crap like most people know. I had one on my old GNex and it felt like crap and dented really easily. So I got Skinomi.
If you want a good wet apply screen protector then Skinomi is the one. Little to no orange peel, and doesn't have that rubbery feeling. xoskins is also good but it's more rubbery. Free shipping too for US and Canada.

Thats about what mine looks like too. Zagg HD sucks.
This is what happened to my phone when i tried to use zagg.
Wow HanMan that looks horrible. I've had Zagg covers in the past but I've never seen such denting. I've tried the cheap screen protectors available on auction websites for a few dollars and overall they aren't horrible and offer at least some protection. Much better than having a screen that looks as bad as what you are observing.
They aren't the best available anymore, but they get the job done when applied correctly. I have them installed on all my devices.

I have been using cases and screen protectors on my phones all my life. This time I decided that enough is enough, I'm going to use this brand new phone naked. I already dropped it and it has like 3-4 dents at 2 of the corners. I was sad for a while but this is bound to happen anyways. I considered using only a screen protector without a case, but that would make me a half-way crook and I'm too hard for that.
So, any cold-blooded thugs out there using their HTC 10 naked like me? We need to unite.
Running it naked, haven't put a case on any of my phones for past 3 years. Why buy a marvel of engineering (smartphones in general) and then cover it with a case. No scratches or anything so far, but they add character to the device.

I'm currently using mine naked while I wait for my case to show up sometime next week. I might end up deciding to just forget the case and enjoy the phone for how it is supposed to be. Having Uh Oh protection definitely offers some peace of mind, though.

am I the only one who hasn't dropped my phones, EVER. ive seen so many people drop theirs, break them ect....
great now that I opened my mouth ill probably drop my 10 in the toilet or something
If you go through devices like me (one every other month or so) a case is important to protect the device for resale. But it is certainly nice to sport around naked once in a while.

I go through devices like you and I don't use a case. Hell this is XDA, you are not unique here going through devices.

The Uh Oh protection is one of the reasons that motivated me to go naked. Does anyone know if HTC will replace phones that have scratched up screens without cracks? Or do I have to hit it with a hammer before calling them for a replacement later on if necessary.
Never use a case or screen protectors, can't stand them.
I ordered a Ice View case along with the phone. I got the phone today but the case wasn't in the box (they said it is still a pre-order item). I guess I'm running naked for a while anyway.
skinned mine with dbrand skins...
i mean yet to receive the shipment though was supposed to be dispatched on 4th may no news yet.. but this is how its going to be....

Completely naked. Why cover a beautiful smartphone?
I never use a cover on my phones.
Ohai!
The ice view case looks great and all, but it adds extra efforts in using the phone. So say in general, cases ruin the beauty of the phone altogether, regardless of what case you get.
Apart from the screen having a potential of breaking, the rest of the device is meant to last. Live life on the edge (until the phone breaks, then you can cry)
I use a slim cover, with kids my M8 has taken more than a dozen falls... still well rounded.
My 10 is already scratched the screen brushed against something edgy and I cant figure what it was.
I never used to use cases, but I have a tendancy to drop things thhese days so I do use one, but I'd rather not have to! Going to get a tight fitting skin like above I think as have rugged case that you can't see the phone through, so it looks like my old phone!
Same here, dot view cases were fun but now I a want to enjoy the new design of the 10, perhaps I will put a tempered glass but not a cover, I am very careful with my phones but you never know when someone put his stuff on your phone when it's on a table, I got a hairline scratch on my M9's screen last year because someone put his earphones on it (yes I know screen coating by HTC is not so good)
This phone is so beautiful that are huge case would just ruin the design but also you need to opt for some protection. Therefore I have purchase the Spigen thin fit.

I haven't received mine yet but I've never used a case for any phone, I've only cracked 1 screen though and that is my current phone Nokia 1520, but it cracked when I was holding it in my mouth not from dropping it D:
Around the house i do, when i leave it's covered by a flip case.

Lol cases are for galaxy phones to cover up the ugliness
