Just wondering. After using my iphone 4 for about a year with an iphone bumper I eventually took it off. Along with the screen protector. When I bought the one X I decided not to purchase a case. Although the phone can feel slippery at times, I just make sure to pinch both sides of the phone. (thumb on the screen, middle finger on the back of the phone) when reaching into my pocket to pull it out. Anyone else not using a case that might of regretted it?

I have a case but I only use it when I go mountain biking. I think cases are FUGLY, particularly on the sexy One X. As for screen protectors, if you can apply it flawlessly its okay. However, its next to impossible to apply it flawlessly, so I never use them either.
Got my one x for three weeks now, no scratches and such. The reason could be that im still using my DHD a lot. thinking bout to get full body screenprotector.
Mostly I don't bother with a case, but now and then I use the htc v701 case
you can see this thread i made = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681427
TBH, if I worked in an office or a clean indoors enviroment then I probably wouldnt use a case, the handset would just slip into a shirt/trouser (pants for the americans here) pocket.
I work outside a lot though, often have dirty hands and sites I work on have hardcore all around… drop my phone on that, then its screwed.
Dont use a SP though, hate them, spoils the lovely feel of the glass.
To be honest though, I dont tend to have phones for more than 6 months, so like to keep them as nice as possible if I decide to sell them on ebay.

Hi
I've been using my phone without case or protection... But since I accidentally dropped it and the back got some scratches, I feel like there should be a case back there, you know, just in case
Also screen protector is not necessary since it has Gorilla Glass, but I saw a topic here about people getting scratches on the screen, so if you're comfortable with them, that wouldn't hurt either

It's not hard to apply screen protectors if you know how. I got 10 one x screen protectors from eBay for £2.50 the official HTC ones are £6 for 2.....

I wouldn't be so crazy about gorilla glass, sure it's rugged but I got a few scratches when I had my dell venue pro (best phone ever, if only it ran android)
I use to be real careful with phones, treating them like little babies lol but overtime you just get use to your phone then your not so delicate with it. Although I probably should throw a case on mine since I work as a mechanic, another reason why I didn't get the white one lol

No case here, regrettably. Dropped it a fair few times now so there are some nice scratches and dings in the back and sides. One day I will learn to look after my stuff...

I did too until my last phone caught an STD. (Sudden Tarmac Destruction)
Joking aside, I found that the HOX was a lot harder to operate one handed in comparison to my Sensation and came close to dropping it a few times.
For the last couple of days I've been using this and I'm finding the phone a lot more secure in my hand and easier to operate one-handed. It adds very little bulk to the phone and I'm delighted with it.
I just need to find a car mount now that will fit with the cover on as it's a bit fiddly to remove the cover.

I have ordered an HTC One X, just waiting for it to get in stock. I don't think I'll be using it with a case. I never did with my O2x. I handle my phones with care. Partly due my appreciation of having the privilege to afford such devices, but also because it ups the re-sale value. I'll probably get a screen protector though.
The phone looks so damn good without the case but as it's a wee bit too large to fit in pockets when you're sitting down I decided to put a case on it. Tried two cases, metal skin and aprolink, settled with this one:
http://creativemylife.com/htc-one-x-aprolink-designed-case-ceramic-red.html
Screen protectors, I simply hate the cheap ones you get off ebay and the like, you always get bubbles, so I bought a good one and for the first time I was able to find a screen protector that's bubble free:

No case, but I'm using a pouch similar to @tsukurimashou. Reminds me of my Nexus One's pouch. I only use it on the weekends/traveling though as when I'm in the office it just stays on the desk or in my pocket.
No case. The design of the phone was a major factor in my decision to buy it...not going to cover it up with a case. This is the first time I've gone without a case on my phones.

I've pre-ordered a HTC Desire and would like to find a case for it before bringing it with me (just to be on the safe side).
It seems most case manufacturers out there have products for the Google Nexus One but nothing for the HTC Desire...
I'm searching something like one of those: CaseMate Gelli, Boxwave Slim Rubberized Shell Case, Seidio Innocase II, Otterbox Commuter, ...
Does anyone know if such a case for the Desire exists?
they have the same body (more or less) .. the nexus one and the Desire that is ... the desire is slightly taller though

The Desire has a chin, although very slight. I doubt a nexus one case would work.
I've been using an iPhone case by DLO for my Touch TD which I got from my local O2 shop. By my reckoning it will work for the Desire too.
There is a entry for the HTC Desire at Case Mates feedback site:
feedback.case-mate.com
I didn't know they had a suggestion page, I filled-in an entry for a Gelli.
feedback.case-mate.com/forums/26011-product/suggestions/569547-htc-desire-gelli-case?ref=title
I ordered this one:
http://www.fommy.co.uk/view-full-page.asp?divid=Google&cat=Cases&skuno=82280
Simple
I dont like any "hard" case ... I prefer naked, but the above case would add some protection while on my pocket, and I still be able to play it naked.
I wish htc would supply a case with the desire like they did with the hd2 and nexus one.. I love my hd2's case.

As far as I know all Android phones come with a "pouch case". Even the Nexus One. Don't see any reason why this one would be different.
Hope they do supply one.
Personally I don't like pouch cases. They are good at protecting the phone while it is in it but they are worth nothing while you are using the phone because of course it is not in the pouch at that time...
When it is being used, you dont need more protection, do you?
Probably true for scratch protection, but I still cant believe my finger will scratch it.
My experience with my WM device (HTC Kaiser):
I dont use pouch.
I only put plastic screen protector.
And I always put the phone inside my jeans pocket.
Result:
- No scratch on the screen / LCD (I am using one of the best plastic screen protector, martinshield.com)
- A lot of dust!!!! But this is expected because I put in the jeans pocket.
- The camera glass at the back has quite some scratch which make the photo quality horrible.
This is the biggest regret, to buy the back cover will cost me around 30 euro
Lesson learned, so I am thinking to really sealed the phone before putting in my jeans pocket. Thats why I bought this case:
http://www.fommy.co.uk/view-full-page.asp?divid=Google&cat=Cases&skuno=82280
It is a nice soft leather small bag/pouch which completely seals the phone.
I dont know the build quality or else because I dont have the phone yet nor the case ... not yet

This is true but my hd2 has not have a mark on it. I had a bodyguardz full protector on my iphone because the back is so easily scratched.. my phone never goes in my pocket and if not on a desk or in its dock it lives in the htc pouch. If im goin out drinking or somewhere where i no it involves dirt etc etc i take out an old phone.

Hi thanks for the suggestion, I think I prefer the samsonite one though, just looks nicer.
I own an HTC S740 currently and am about to upgrade to a Desire.
The S740 came with a neoprene pouch/sleeve to put the phone in whilst in your pocket etc. It did make a massive difference to the amount of scratches and general abuse the phone got. But, after 18months the phone still has huge chunks missing from the corners and a cracked screen. Both were caused as i pulled the phone and pouch from out of my pocket whilst it was upside down. As they cleared my pocket the phone slid from the pouch and descended unprotected to the floor whereupon it promptly received said damage.
I think I will be going with a permanent cover for the Desire as I am very concerned about damaging the screen with it being touch screen.

Thanks. I've looked at those skins for other devices but don't know anyone who has actually tried them. They look good on the website.
These work really well. My wife has had a few different ones on her iPod and they stay put, are easy to install, and don't leave any residue. I would recommend them to anyone.
I also had one on my N1. It was pretty nice and held up well. I've actually got a couple pics of it on the eBay listing I have for it now. It was a stormtrooper with a blaster. I think they will put pretty much any pic you want on the skin.
I have used these on ipods and xbox controllers they come off just fine dirt builds up around edges a little rubbing alcohol takes it right off

and just like with cases, I imagine they don't make any for the extended battery?
Very durable.
I have one of their skins on the front of my PC (It was free when I bought it...)
Since it's vinyl and not plastic, I'm sure you could trim it with an Exacto knife to put it on an extended battery, but I know that's not the same thing.
I wonder if someone sent them an ext cover if they'd be willing to mock one up?
I've used gelaskins brand skins before and they leave no residue. Alas, none available for TB yet. If these are similar vinyl I wouldn't think residue would be much of an issue.
Does it stick against clothes? I'm thinking about it, but I wouldn't get it if it makes hard to take out of my pocket.

My company gave skinit's out for its last birthday and I picked up one for my old moto droid. They work fine, they don't peel at the edges, no residue, no issues taking it in and out of my pocket. Only problem I had was with the front panel sticker, it didn't seem to fit as well as I would have liked, so I ditched it.
I eventually got bored of it and just peeled all of it off, came off in one quick peal.
One thing to note (iirc) the front sticker covers the softkeys in the front bottom. I didn't use this on the moto droid so I can't say anything about it affecting usage.
The gelaskins for the TB are out, but they do not include a front sticker, it seems.
http://gelaskins.com/store/skins/phones/HTC_Thunderbolt/
i'm using a real dry carbon fiber skin from skinomi... fits perfect and looks slick
I had a skin on my EVO I believe was from DecalGirl, but the edges of the stickers raised a little, so after a few weeks it took extra effort not to accidentally peel them off. Could be fixed by making them thinner, tapering the edges, or overdosing the edge with adhesive. Are these better?
Sent from my T-Bolt
I have been using since original post no peeling at all and my phone goes in and out of my pocket alot. For application I did wipe my phone well with alcohol taking off the oil from my hands
It does not affect usage of my front buttons. Although it does diminish the light.
Every sticker fit perfectly on the phone not to big or small.

How do you think this skin would work if I used my phone in a case sometimes? Would it play nicely or do you think it would be a problem? (Yes, I realize the silliness in putting a case on a phone with a skin - I personally use my phone both with a case, sometimes, and naked at other times.)

I have had the same skin installed on my phone, it fits fine in the case-mate pop case. I haven't had any issue with it or with the car mount.
I had to exchange my TB just last week and it took some real effort to actually peel off the skin. I am getting a second set for the new unit soon.
PS. I think the phone wit skin would fit fine in a soft/rubber/gel case but hard case like seidio surface which is very tight fitting. I think that will create an issue.
I would say it would fit easily inside almost all cases maybe even all.
It's less then 1/16th in thickness
If I still had a micometer I would check it for you but its really not serious.
Tapatalk
Skin makes it difficult to put on a hard case... Even though it is not very thick it still makes it difficult to put a hard case on and if you do use it with a hard case the case will screw up the skin and put creases on the skin as well as scratch marks on the skin.
Do you think its necessary to carry this phone in the case? I have the One V only a week and I really dont want to have scratches on the phone body - which is made from alluminium, so I dont thing I need a case. Its just so uncomfortable to put the phone out of the case everytime I want to use it. (But Ive bought a screen protector).
Do you wear a case?

Ahoj,
I would definitely recommend using a soft or hard case. I have mine for couple weeks now and I am starting to see the metal on the sharp corners next to the top of the display. The black colour is wearing off. Maybe I've scratched it with keys or something. So I immediately bought two hard cases on ebay.
No nazdar
Well, I carry it in a separate pocket. But... I´ll probably get a case :I .. Thanks for your quick reply.
i will tell you my personal experience that i bought a back cover for my one v and after 2 days of usage it heats up my phone as hell!!!. I do not use it anymore and its cool as cucumber
I've bought the Quicksand case and its nice... still it heats up quick and leaves some slight purple stain (colour of the hard case) on the back cover (chin)
so now.. i use it occasionally when i go traveling~
That's not very good news, that it heats up with a back cover. Will see about that when the one I ordered arrives.

I dont use any hard case. it's a slim phone and I want to feel the slimness. my lumia 800 is as thin as one v but when I use hard case it looks sluggish, heavy and fat. I've been using this phone without screen protector without any scretch on the screen.
The first time you drop your phone, you will wish you had a case on it. They add slight bulk to the device, but its a reasonable trade off to avoid damage to your $500 phone.

More like $350...anyways i also recommend having a soft jelly(silicone) case!
Try this:

It gives you the feel of a hard case but the shock absorption of a Soft case..

I'm very paranoid about dropping my phone so i bought a hard case for $35. You can get a thinner gel case. I got mine from case mate and i have a little bit of heating issues.
I'm wondering... Which is better in terms of protection? Hard case or soft?

Having used both hard and soft cases, I'd say a hard case is going to offer better impact protection. While a soft case will prevent scratches, it won't protect aginst impact damage. For exampme; if your phone fell, and landed on the corner, a soft case won't prevent dents and dings, whereas a hard case would. This of course is only based on my personal experience. Other people may other opinions.

Hi,
I have buyed on ebay this hardcase and it's wery nice and good material. Aluminium case of One V is too slicky, but now I'm satisfied.
There's little bit heating when I'm playing some games, but not so much. With normal usage it's not heating.

Koodo, a pay as you go operator in Canada is selling the black One V for $175! With local sales tax that is $196 all in.
Telus, my operator wants $189.99 on a two year agreement. Canada is famous for it's three year plans (I am still under a plan for my Desire), but buying it contract free for less then I can get it.......with a contract at my own carrier is starting to make it a no brainer for me. Now if only I could convince my Wife I need this phone!
Put my 32gb card in the one V, the old 16gb back into the Desire for my oldest son....done!
EDIT: Sorry for the off topic post guys, especially while quoting a moderator! My Desire has been "naked" since the day my pre-order arrived late August 2010 ( Canada was late getting this phone). I have dropped it tonnes, banging it against my airplane's rudder pedals while picking it up, and besides a few marks in the corners where the finish has worn to bare medal, and some dings in the plastic back cover, she's still a beauty, just shows her age. I like my phones to look used though!

I bought 2 of this ref for my girlfiriend and i, and the fit is perfect for both or us. No loose point. But i can confirm one thing despite of the minimalist design this protection is incredible. My deary let her One fall 2 times, once inside house, once in the street very badly...after removing this Belkin protection to check the phone, not a single mark on it. I even used the belkin screen protect which is really easy to apply, no air bubbles, and really protective. Best ever used.

My deary let her One fall 2 times, once inside house, once in the street very badly...after removing this Belkin protection to check the phone, not a single mark on it. I even used the belkin screen protect which is really easy to apply, no air bubbles, and really protective. Best ever used.

Would u mind posting any pics? I'm really interested in how it looks on the phone

Well I went out and got one at target but quickly returned it, it was a tight fight like the phone is secure but the sides, top and bottom stick out so it makes the phone look roundish, basically made my htc look look like a galaxy s4 lol, the top and bottom stick out too much to where u can see a gap between the lip and phone, it was a bummer because if it was a perfect fit the case is extremely nice looking on the silver one and probably the nicest tpu case I've come across, I hope there is a revision of this

that's a shame
running out of options... looking for a less bulky case than the uag yet still protective. i've pretty much given up my hopes of sgp making a neo hybrid case for us HTC One owners.. not feeling any love from them lol
hopefully someone will step up and create a quality fake neo hybrid for the HTC One or something :fingers-crossed:

I feel u, the only case I use is my uag because I feel like I'm settling with other cases, diztronic would have been the perfect one but the camera cutout is a joke to me it looks like an eye

I know I'm resurrecting an older thread, but I just wanted to chime in with my experience. I bought one of these cases on eBay, and I agree that the fit on the top and bottom leaves something to be desired. Other than that, I really like the case, so I got out my heat gun (not just a hairdryer), and heated up the top and bottom until they were warm enough to push in and reshape a little bit. That made the case fit a lot better. Be careful if any of you decide to do this, though. The grey part can melt if you get it hot enough.

Exact same problem with my Belkin Grip Sheer Matte case.

i think that this cover could be very nice ! but i should go for a 3mm because i think its the same for protection but the weight its better !
The case does add quite a bit of bulk to the phone. It makes it a lot wider than it needs to be, and there's sort of a sharp seam around the edge near the top. I stopped by a T-Mobile store today and picked up a Speck Candyshell Grip case for less than $20. It fits amazingly well, and really makes the fit of the Belkin look terrible, even after I got it to fit better with a heat gun.
I have been using cases and screen protectors on my phones all my life. This time I decided that enough is enough, I'm going to use this brand new phone naked. I already dropped it and it has like 3-4 dents at 2 of the corners. I was sad for a while but this is bound to happen anyways. I considered using only a screen protector without a case, but that would make me a half-way crook and I'm too hard for that.
So, any cold-blooded thugs out there using their HTC 10 naked like me? We need to unite.
Running it naked, haven't put a case on any of my phones for past 3 years. Why buy a marvel of engineering (smartphones in general) and then cover it with a case. No scratches or anything so far, but they add character to the device.

I'm currently using mine naked while I wait for my case to show up sometime next week. I might end up deciding to just forget the case and enjoy the phone for how it is supposed to be. Having Uh Oh protection definitely offers some peace of mind, though.

great now that I opened my mouth ill probably drop my 10 in the toilet or something
If you go through devices like me (one every other month or so) a case is important to protect the device for resale. But it is certainly nice to sport around naked once in a while.

I go through devices like you and I don't use a case. Hell this is XDA, you are not unique here going through devices.

The Uh Oh protection is one of the reasons that motivated me to go naked. Does anyone know if HTC will replace phones that have scratched up screens without cracks? Or do I have to hit it with a hammer before calling them for a replacement later on if necessary.
Never use a case or screen protectors, can't stand them.
I ordered a Ice View case along with the phone. I got the phone today but the case wasn't in the box (they said it is still a pre-order item). I guess I'm running naked for a while anyway.
skinned mine with dbrand skins...
i mean yet to receive the shipment though was supposed to be dispatched on 4th may no news yet.. but this is how its going to be....

Completely naked. Why cover a beautiful smartphone?
I never use a cover on my phones.
Ohai!
The ice view case looks great and all, but it adds extra efforts in using the phone. So say in general, cases ruin the beauty of the phone altogether, regardless of what case you get.
Apart from the screen having a potential of breaking, the rest of the device is meant to last. Live life on the edge (until the phone breaks, then you can cry)
I use a slim cover, with kids my M8 has taken more than a dozen falls... still well rounded.
My 10 is already scratched the screen brushed against something edgy and I cant figure what it was.
I never used to use cases, but I have a tendancy to drop things thhese days so I do use one, but I'd rather not have to! Going to get a tight fitting skin like above I think as have rugged case that you can't see the phone through, so it looks like my old phone!
Same here, dot view cases were fun but now I a want to enjoy the new design of the 10, perhaps I will put a tempered glass but not a cover, I am very careful with my phones but you never know when someone put his stuff on your phone when it's on a table, I got a hairline scratch on my M9's screen last year because someone put his earphones on it (yes I know screen coating by HTC is not so good)
This phone is so beautiful that are huge case would just ruin the design but also you need to opt for some protection. Therefore I have purchase the Spigen thin fit.

I haven't received mine yet but I've never used a case for any phone, I've only cracked 1 screen though and that is my current phone Nokia 1520, but it cracked when I was holding it in my mouth not from dropping it D:
Around the house i do, when i leave it's covered by a flip case.

Lol cases are for galaxy phones to cover up the ugliness
