Do you think its necessary to carry this phone in the case? I have the One V only a week and I really dont want to have scratches on the phone body - which is made from alluminium, so I dont thing I need a case. Its just so uncomfortable to put the phone out of the case everytime I want to use it. (But Ive bought a screen protector).
Do you wear a case?

Ahoj,
I would definitely recommend using a soft or hard case. I have mine for couple weeks now and I am starting to see the metal on the sharp corners next to the top of the display. The black colour is wearing off. Maybe I've scratched it with keys or something. So I immediately bought two hard cases on ebay.
No nazdar
Well, I carry it in a separate pocket. But... I´ll probably get a case :I .. Thanks for your quick reply.
i will tell you my personal experience that i bought a back cover for my one v and after 2 days of usage it heats up my phone as hell!!!. I do not use it anymore and its cool as cucumber
I've bought the Quicksand case and its nice... still it heats up quick and leaves some slight purple stain (colour of the hard case) on the back cover (chin)
so now.. i use it occasionally when i go traveling~
That's not very good news, that it heats up with a back cover. Will see about that when the one I ordered arrives.

I dont use any hard case. it's a slim phone and I want to feel the slimness. my lumia 800 is as thin as one v but when I use hard case it looks sluggish, heavy and fat. I've been using this phone without screen protector without any scretch on the screen.
The first time you drop your phone, you will wish you had a case on it. They add slight bulk to the device, but its a reasonable trade off to avoid damage to your $500 phone.

More like $350...anyways i also recommend having a soft jelly(silicone) case!
Try this:
I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Amzer-AMZ93509-Soft-Gloss-Cover/dp/B007K6DRC0
It gives you the feel of a hard case but the shock absorption of a Soft case..

I'm very paranoid about dropping my phone so i bought a hard case for $35. You can get a thinner gel case. I got mine from case mate and i have a little bit of heating issues.
I'm wondering... Which is better in terms of protection? Hard case or soft?

Having used both hard and soft cases, I'd say a hard case is going to offer better impact protection. While a soft case will prevent scratches, it won't protect aginst impact damage. For exampme; if your phone fell, and landed on the corner, a soft case won't prevent dents and dings, whereas a hard case would. This of course is only based on my personal experience. Other people may other opinions.

Hi,
I have buyed on ebay this hardcase and it's wery nice and good material. Aluminium case of One V is too slicky, but now I'm satisfied.
There's little bit heating when I'm playing some games, but not so much. With normal usage it's not heating.

Koodo, a pay as you go operator in Canada is selling the black One V for $175! With local sales tax that is $196 all in.
Telus, my operator wants $189.99 on a two year agreement. Canada is famous for it's three year plans (I am still under a plan for my Desire), but buying it contract free for less then I can get it.......with a contract at my own carrier is starting to make it a no brainer for me. Now if only I could convince my Wife I need this phone!
Put my 32gb card in the one V, the old 16gb back into the Desire for my oldest son....done!
EDIT: Sorry for the off topic post guys, especially while quoting a moderator! My Desire has been "naked" since the day my pre-order arrived late August 2010 ( Canada was late getting this phone). I have dropped it tonnes, banging it against my airplane's rudder pedals while picking it up, and besides a few marks in the corners where the finish has worn to bare medal, and some dings in the plastic back cover, she's still a beauty, just shows her age. I like my phones to look used though!

I bought a case mate from eBay on Tuesday and after 2 weeks with my nexus it's finally arrived. The fit is great and makes the phone feel much easier to grip and more solid too. Its a 2 section case, silicone inner with a hard plastic outer layer. They can be found for £24.99 on eBay.

Aindow, did your Tough come with a screen protector from Case-Mate?
Had one of these for my Desire before I had the GN and it came with one included. The CM screen protector was pretty good so would like to get one for the GN too.
thanks for the review
I just ordered one from thecellguru, hopefully it won't feel too thick on the phone the slimness on the phone is amazing

No I didn't get a screen protector which is kinda disappointing as someone told me they normally come with one.
I've ordered an spg protector off eBay but it's coming from south Korea so will be a while before I get it. I guess I just have to be careful for now.

It is quite thick as its a double shell(I'd say about 2-3mm thick as an estimate on all sides of the case) but for me it makes the phone easier to hold anyway and the edges of the case stick up past the screen anyway so the screen is pretty well protected anyway.
Don't forget to let us know what you think.

+1 would also like to know. Also if you could comment on how tight or loose the top and bottom above and below the screen is. I know on my sensation with a tough case it was loose below and above the screen where the hard plastic shell didn't quite extend.

WELL TONIGHT THE CASE HAS PROVEN ITSELF. My girlfriends mum knocked the phone off the worktop and it landed face down on a tile floor! Expecting the worst I picked up the phone and it's perfectly fine and was still turned on.

It's a really tight fit on the sides. The top and bottom are not quite as tight but I've had no issues with it pulling off or anything. As for the fit around the edges of the screen and dust protection its excellent apart from at the top where its not 100% snug but I think this case may possibly be designed for both versions of the GN. I wouldn't let this put you off though. I'm currently waiting for my sgp screen protector to arrive (plumped for a premium one that comes with the applicator and micro fibre cloths).
All in all I'm happy with the case.

This is the case I've been waiting for. I got the same one for my Nexus One two years ago, and it has protected it from drops on the pavement dozens of times. My N1 is still in mint condition thanks to this case.
I can't wait until real retailers start stocking these. I'd rather not order it on eBay from Asia.
I can personally say this case is great. Looks brilliant and feels really sturdy.
Only problem is that the power button doesn't click anymore, but it doesn't feel too bad and is still responsive.

Yes. It's a silicone inner shell with a very hard plastic outer case that wraps round the back/sides of the phone.

Just wondering. After using my iphone 4 for about a year with an iphone bumper I eventually took it off. Along with the screen protector. When I bought the one X I decided not to purchase a case. Although the phone can feel slippery at times, I just make sure to pinch both sides of the phone. (thumb on the screen, middle finger on the back of the phone) when reaching into my pocket to pull it out. Anyone else not using a case that might of regretted it?

I have a case but I only use it when I go mountain biking. I think cases are FUGLY, particularly on the sexy One X. As for screen protectors, if you can apply it flawlessly its okay. However, its next to impossible to apply it flawlessly, so I never use them either.
Got my one x for three weeks now, no scratches and such. The reason could be that im still using my DHD a lot. thinking bout to get full body screenprotector.
Mostly I don't bother with a case, but now and then I use the htc v701 case
you can see this thread i made = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681427
TBH, if I worked in an office or a clean indoors enviroment then I probably wouldnt use a case, the handset would just slip into a shirt/trouser (pants for the americans here) pocket.
I work outside a lot though, often have dirty hands and sites I work on have hardcore all around… drop my phone on that, then its screwed.
Dont use a SP though, hate them, spoils the lovely feel of the glass.
To be honest though, I dont tend to have phones for more than 6 months, so like to keep them as nice as possible if I decide to sell them on ebay.
Steve
Hi
I've been using my phone without case or protection... But since I accidentally dropped it and the back got some scratches, I feel like there should be a case back there, you know, just in case
Also screen protector is not necessary since it has Gorilla Glass, but I saw a topic here about people getting scratches on the screen, so if you're comfortable with them, that wouldn't hurt either

I wouldn't be so crazy about gorilla glass, sure it's rugged but I got a few scratches when I had my dell venue pro (best phone ever, if only it ran android)
I use to be real careful with phones, treating them like little babies lol but overtime you just get use to your phone then your not so delicate with it. Although I probably should throw a case on mine since I work as a mechanic, another reason why I didn't get the white one lol

I did too until my last phone caught an STD. (Sudden Tarmac Destruction)
Joking aside, I found that the HOX was a lot harder to operate one handed in comparison to my Sensation and came close to dropping it a few times.
For the last couple of days I've been using this and I'm finding the phone a lot more secure in my hand and easier to operate one-handed. It adds very little bulk to the phone and I'm delighted with it.
I just need to find a car mount now that will fit with the cover on as it's a bit fiddly to remove the cover.

I have ordered an HTC One X, just waiting for it to get in stock. I don't think I'll be using it with a case. I never did with my O2x. I handle my phones with care. Partly due my appreciation of having the privilege to afford such devices, but also because it ups the re-sale value. I'll probably get a screen protector though.
The phone looks so damn good without the case but as it's a wee bit too large to fit in pockets when you're sitting down I decided to put a case on it. Tried two cases, metal skin and aprolink, settled with this one:
http://creativemylife.com/htc-one-x-aprolink-designed-case-ceramic-red.html
Screen protectors, I simply hate the cheap ones you get off ebay and the like, you always get bubbles, so I bought a good one and for the first time I was able to find a screen protector that's bubble free:

No case, but I'm using a pouch similar to @tsukurimashou. Reminds me of my Nexus One's pouch. I only use it on the weekends/traveling though as when I'm in the office it just stays on the desk or in my pocket.
No case. The design of the phone was a major factor in my decision to buy it...not going to cover it up with a case. This is the first time I've gone without a case on my phones.

Finally arrived is right. How long does it take for case manufacturers to get the ball out on the heavier duty cases? This phone has been out for about a month or so and with it being such a high end device it seems that there should at least be some buzz on high end case websites about the development of protective overlays. I'm anxious to see a Trident Kraken, Otterbox Defender, or Ballistic Hard Core on this phone.
Also, are there any other worthy manufacturers that I could consider for quality protection besides these guys?
Mine was delivered yesterday, I've been using otter box for about 4 years now the first was a commuter for my 3gs but the protection wasn't very good on it. Upgraded to the defender and it was much better (broke once and they replaced immediately.) . I then bought a s3 (phone) I was hesitant to put a defender on there because the Damn thing would be the size of a kleenex box haha. So I got the commuter for it instead and the design and overall quality of the materials is much much better than it was 4 years ago. It would easily withstand a drop to concrete. I don't think otterbox has plans to make a defender case as far as the website shows.
I've searched for other companies (ballistic, and lifeproof) and they don't seem to be mentioning anything about the e971 so I'm thinking it's doubtful we'll see much more cases unless it explodes in popularity.

Korean F180, its the same body as the Sprint LS970.
OK, case arrived today. CLeaned up my phone and slapped it on. Initial impressions...
- quality materials, fit and finish are high end. Fits the device very well.
- a little bulkier than I had hoped for, but right on par for what I realistically expected. The protective lip around the screen edge of the device is a bit taller/ deeper than I anticipated. Doesn't exactly interfere with using the capacative back/ home/ menu buttons, but I am aware of the case when using them. Definitely adds weight and girth to the device.
- Rubber button covers for the power and volume controls reduce tactile feel of the controls. Even within a few hours, I can tell that the rubber covers on the controls is going to 'break in' and there will be some tactile feel there, but how much is yet to be determined.
- port covers for USB and headphone jack are great. USB port cutout is large enough to accommodate nearly any connector. Headphone jack cutout likely not compatible with L-shaped connectors, however all my earphone connectors are straight.
Sweet mine should be in the mail today or tomorrow but I'm out of town so it will just sit frozen in the mailbox lol

Indeed, the AT&T is the only Optimus G in the whole world with a different body.
Here is some pictures for those of you who asked. I took a picture with the screen on too. I wanted to show that the case goes right to the edge of the screen. It makes it somewhat difficult to tap the edge but you still can. I am not a photographer. Also, sorry I could get a better screen picture. Us Americans are still waiting for LG to update our phone.

I picked up the commuter at a cell booth in the local mall, was surprised to find one, this phone is not common around here, 40 bucks even was a great deal for what it is and i couldn't find it any cheaper online.
However I don't like the provided screen protector, top 2 corners are cutout and i'd rather a full cover as I work around a lot of dusty/dirty places, i don't mind if it covers the notification light or front cam.
I like how Otterbox has changed the feel of the silicone/soft piece, i had one on my HTC Desire a long time ago and the amount of pocket fuzz and lint it attracted was crazy so i wasn't interested in them for a long time.
You just made this beautiful phone very ugly with this case

Hi all,
I've been a lurker for many years here on XDA and figured I'd try and contribute for once. Sorry if someone has posted a review on this case in the other threads. I looked around for a bit but didn't find any.
I received my Speck GemShell for my HTC One http://www.speckproducts.com/smartphone-cases/htc/gemshell-for-htc-one.html about 3 days ago. It's a hard plastic case with gel incorporated around it. BTW, for those considering shipping options, mine shipped out from Oklahoma so it reached me in Chicago in a day via the free shipping option (USPS). That being said, here are my impressions so far:
Pros:
- The case still leaves the phones feeling pretty slim (though I still do prefer it nekkid).
- It's clear except for a gel around the front rim, corners, and inputs.
- The gel around the front rim elevates the phone when placing it on its face.
- The gel around the inputs will hopefully prevent wearing/cracking of the hard plastic.
- Seems well sealed enough that I haven't seen any dust or pocket enter the space between the case and phone.
- The speck logo on the back is really well done. It makes it seem like it's a part of the aluminum.
Cons:
- The power button becomes really recessed. Not a deal breaker for me but definitely something to take note of.
- Interacting with the volume buttons requires more effort.
- I'm OCD on keeping fingerprints off my phone/case and the cleaning has left micro-scratches on the case. So far it doesn't interfere with the appearance but we'll see after a longer period of time.- Wish the gel actually covered the entire sides, top, and bottom for better coverage. Even with the clear plastic, you don't really see the aluminum on the sides, top, and bottom.
So you can see the selling point of this phone is not only that it's a clear case but the gel that they've incorporated into it. I'm a bit sad on the micro-scratches but I'm not convinced there's any other case-based solution that would be cost effective. I've attached pictures of the case below.
Hope this mini-review helps!

Thick, will turn yellow after a couple of weeks unlike other hard clear cases (such as the Spigen) and it's not very clear. Its very visible on the phone and defeats the purpose of it being clear.
and cturetar
It's good to look. Maybe i will have one.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

You sir know your cases. I definitely agree here. It may be "grippy" but this will yellow immediately... for clear cases you have to go with a hard case

And you know what they say about opinions.
I just got this case in the mail over the weekend (still waiting on phone) and The case feels rather flimsy on its own and is incredibly thin. I have no doubt it'll protect against scratches, but feels like it'll do nothing for drops. I didn't expect Otterbox protection, but was hoping for some kind of impact absorption. Anyone have any experience with these cases and drops with previous devices?
Actually I went into the Sprint store on Thursday the 18th & purchased the white & silver speck case cor my HTC ONE that I was receiving in the mail the next day on the 19th & liked my case on it because it matches tne phone perfectly & fits it really tight like a body glove. It's hard to put on & hard to take off but I saw the clear gel case by speck o line yesterday morning & wanted that one because it will show my phone all the way around, I just dont want it to loosen up over time but this one I do have by speck is a hard shell case on the outside but a softgray rubber on the inside

I have ordered the black one but it is still in post. Can someone tell me whether it adds any bulk to the phone? I bought a cheap one from ebay till my speck arrived and im completely satisfied with my cheap one and i hope speck is not bulky.

I was completely surprised at how thin the speck is. It's hardly noticeable.

I've had mine for two weeks and it's VERY yellow. I'll post pics when I can. I've had other clear cases before, hard and soft, but never had them turn yellow like this one.

I'm not sure of anyone has mentioned as o didn't read entire post. Leet414 u may try that compound they sell for headlight lenses to get scratches out. May be a stretch but that stuff works.

I have been using cases and screen protectors on my phones all my life. This time I decided that enough is enough, I'm going to use this brand new phone naked. I already dropped it and it has like 3-4 dents at 2 of the corners. I was sad for a while but this is bound to happen anyways. I considered using only a screen protector without a case, but that would make me a half-way crook and I'm too hard for that.
So, any cold-blooded thugs out there using their HTC 10 naked like me? We need to unite.
Running it naked, haven't put a case on any of my phones for past 3 years. Why buy a marvel of engineering (smartphones in general) and then cover it with a case. No scratches or anything so far, but they add character to the device.

Same here . cases are silly.

I'm currently using mine naked while I wait for my case to show up sometime next week. I might end up deciding to just forget the case and enjoy the phone for how it is supposed to be. Having Uh Oh protection definitely offers some peace of mind, though.

great now that I opened my mouth ill probably drop my 10 in the toilet or something
If you go through devices like me (one every other month or so) a case is important to protect the device for resale. But it is certainly nice to sport around naked once in a while.

I go through devices like you and I don't use a case. Hell this is XDA, you are not unique here going through devices.

The Uh Oh protection is one of the reasons that motivated me to go naked. Does anyone know if HTC will replace phones that have scratched up screens without cracks? Or do I have to hit it with a hammer before calling them for a replacement later on if necessary.
Never use a case or screen protectors, can't stand them.
I ordered a Ice View case along with the phone. I got the phone today but the case wasn't in the box (they said it is still a pre-order item). I guess I'm running naked for a while anyway.
skinned mine with dbrand skins...
i mean yet to receive the shipment though was supposed to be dispatched on 4th may no news yet.. but this is how its going to be....

Completely naked. Why cover a beautiful smartphone?
I never use a cover on my phones.
Ohai!
The ice view case looks great and all, but it adds extra efforts in using the phone. So say in general, cases ruin the beauty of the phone altogether, regardless of what case you get.
Apart from the screen having a potential of breaking, the rest of the device is meant to last. Live life on the edge (until the phone breaks, then you can cry)
I use a slim cover, with kids my M8 has taken more than a dozen falls... still well rounded.
My 10 is already scratched the screen brushed against something edgy and I cant figure what it was.
I never used to use cases, but I have a tendancy to drop things thhese days so I do use one, but I'd rather not have to! Going to get a tight fitting skin like above I think as have rugged case that you can't see the phone through, so it looks like my old phone!
Same here, dot view cases were fun but now I a want to enjoy the new design of the 10, perhaps I will put a tempered glass but not a cover, I am very careful with my phones but you never know when someone put his stuff on your phone when it's on a table, I got a hairline scratch on my M9's screen last year because someone put his earphones on it (yes I know screen coating by HTC is not so good)
This phone is so beautiful that are huge case would just ruin the design but also you need to opt for some protection. Therefore I have purchase the Spigen thin fit.

I haven't received mine yet but I've never used a case for any phone, I've only cracked 1 screen though and that is my current phone Nokia 1520, but it cracked when I was holding it in my mouth not from dropping it D:
Around the house i do, when i leave it's covered by a flip case.
