Review: Spigen SGP GLAS Premium Tempered Glass series for Galaxy S3 - Galaxy S III Accessories

So my SPG GLAS came in the mail yesterday. I've had some time to fool around with it, so I thought I'd post some of my more detailed impressions as well as some pics.
The biggest surprise of the entire product was its size. The GLAS does NOT cover the entire phone, but stops short a couple of millimeters on all sides - actually, right before the screen starts curving. It does make your screen feel smaller, and does remove that wonderful edge-to-edge glass feeling, but it doesn't impair functionality.
It does fit well - all cutouts are perfectly aligned, IF you can put it on perfectly. Mine was shifted just down and to the right, which made the Samsung logo under the speaker grill look a bit odd. But the soft key backlighting did turn out - when the light is on, it's impossible to tell that it's actually coming from a layer behind the GLAS. Maybe it's because its so thin - especially of you have a case that is raised around the edges, and even if you don't, it hardly seems thicker with than without the GLAS.
And glas(s) it is. The surface feels extremely smooth and infinitely better than any wet screen protector. I don't have the Curved Crystal, so I can't compare to that, but this does feel *very* slick. But it's not perfect. If you have SHS (sweaty hands syndrome) like me you'll notice a little bit of friction increase over the original screen, but not much. Overall, it feels awesome.
And then you turn your phone on. And try to swipe to unlock, but nothing happens. Really. Touch responsiveness is noticeably decreased with the GLAS. Especially while typing. It's fine if you make a conscious effort to press a little harder, but it has almost driven me crazy when keys don't register, when it mistakes a swipe for a tap in the app drawer, or when my screen doesn't unlock. If you're a more deliberate or heavy-handed user, this probably won't affect you, but those of use who use Swiftkey like a crutch and fly through homescreens like there's no tomorrow, you might want to stick with a dry protector like the Curved Crystal.
...And here are some pics. Feel free to ask me anything, just don't expect to get answered instantly.

i think the image links are broken..

I'm not gonna lie, I loled hard.

Not to be a **** but there's already two other reviews about this. The sensitivity has been a concern but nothing is never perfect the first time. Look at the Spectre. There's a lot more complains for both the S3 version n GNex version

Also after a while there's a trick to getting along with the sensitivity issue. I really noticed it when I first got it. I barely notice it now although I make the common typing errors cuz of it. I still contacted SGP n I'll try to get a replacement. I didn't exactly align the protector right (did it the moment I woke up) n it kinda bugs me lol

i prefer a protector that is cut to size..

Was about to buy this, after seeing this, imma stick with my belkin anti-glare..

Of course, the ideal would be something like Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) Diamond on top of the original GG2 face. Hmmm... maybe I just invented GG3?
That would have to be the ultimate scratch resistance but would of course not help you when it comes to dropping the phone.
Having said that, there is no after market "screen protector" that will stop the glass actually breaking.

I got the SGP Ultra Crystal protectors for my gs3 and my Nexus 7 and I am very impressed. Can't even tell they are on there and they clean up amazingly hardly leaving finger prints at all...it feels like I don't even have one on. They made a glass version for the Galaxy Note 2 that is supposedly even better than the Ultra Crystal, but people are reporting it's too thick and is making the S-Pen hard to use.
I was about to buy the Zagg HD invisi-shield, well I actually did buy it at Best Buy at the recommendation of a friend, but when I got home and looked up reviews I was astonished to see it was awful, and I paid $25 for it. I then listened to everyone in the thread and got the SGP Ultra Crystal dry protectors for $13 comes with 2. I am very happy with my purchase. I just ordered one for my Note 2, bout to get one for my iPad.

Screen protector

I bought 5pcs for about $3 off of ebay which is a great deal but it looks like they were cut wrong because it doesnt line up great.
Here is the link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/29064751891...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1898wt_897
I really dont want to pay $18 for a single one, like Steinheil.
My question is, have any of you bought cheap ones that lines up perfect with the phone and corners?
As with many things you get what you pay for.
I have the Skinomi which one of the early ones available and its been ok:
http://www.skinomi.com/
The more I use them the more I recommend the wet apply one as they seem to have less bubble and last longer. For people who are worried just go to best buy or a mall stand and have someone who installs them all day install it.
Most of the newer screen protectors don't line up directly to the edge if thats what your referring to. They save space on the edges so that it doesn't peel off as easy and a lot of new cases cover the edges to. Plus they save money by using less material. I have the ones from verizon and they dont go edge to edge. I even believe that the new Zagg's are being cut the same way.

I actually hate the ones that uses water to install, such as invisiShield. They are not as slippery as the ones that stick on there.
Is skinomi requires water to install?

No I am definitely not looking for a perfect fit but the ones I bought does not line up straight, from top corner to bottom corner. I can buy verizon protectors $9 for 3pcs. So, if they dont line up crooked I am fine.
i bought this http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...BX5A/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1324879125&sr=8-6
i think it's worth it since i started using that brand since my first android, 2 yrs ago. it's really tough and durability is super good.
The reason why the nexus doesn't have a dry install that doesn't extend to the edge because our screens are slightly curved so they will create bubbles at the top and bottom of the screen. The wet screens protector will fit better because they are more bendable
I use a brand called terrapin on my GN. They're cheap on eBay but they're made from very hard plastic. They go right to the edges of the screen and fit really well with cut outs in the right place for the speaker, camera and various sensors.
The quality of these protectors is brilliant, no affect on screen quality at all and there's no rainbow effect or orange peel. There's a few light scratches I can see on the screen protector when bright lights are shone on the unlit screen but as soon as you wake the screen up you can't see them at all.

I would still use a screen protector dust/sand/dirt can get on your fingers and still scratch it plus anything gets in the case and the cover may scratch it. I am super paranoid about scratches though so it may be just me.
There's a bunch of discussion in the Accessories forum on which screen protector is the best. I vote for Verizon "clear" one.
Great! Ordered them. Hopefully they will turnout better.

Me too. Too paranoid. As much as I would like to use the phone without a screen protector to view s amoled with its glory, I will kick myself in the gonads if I end up scratching it.

In their videos the take a dremel to one and it stops the bit. No way the cheap plastic ones would.
Orange peel is my biggest problem with expensive ones such as invisible shield.
XO skins looks pretty legit. I wish I had seen it before I purchased the one I posted earlier
If they are not too too expensive I might pick that up too, as a back up.

Review: A.R.M. Screen Protector

Made by: A.R.M. (www.armstation.com)
Model: Samsung i9250 (GSM)
Dry or Wet: Dry
My Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE (Verizon)
Compatible with GSM & LTE
Rating: 8/10
About me: I am writing this section because I want to justify my review. I have been following phones and accessories since 2002. I have tried anything and everything. I have put screen protectors or similar products on almost all my electronics (iPod, Macbook Pro, Nintendo DS, etc) since 2002. I have tried Zagg, Best Skins Ever (BSE), Verizon brand screen protectors, SGP, etc.
A.R.M. vs ALL: I always bought SGP screen protectors because of the clarity and glass-like feel of the screen protector. I swore by it, but I was disappointed at the coverage. And there was no way in hell I was going to get a wet screen protector again. The one thing I learned is that never ever ever ever ever buy a wet screen protector, I don't care what you say about XO having ALMOST ALMOST ALMOST no orange peel. ALMOST isn't going to cut it for me. I decided to get the A.R.M. because it was dry, great screen coverage, and the Nexus glass is pretty strong.
A.R.M. Customer Service: A.R.M. had great customer service, I requested a sample through my connection on Thursday, received it on Monday. It took less than 3 business days to arrive from Hong Kong. INSANE, not only was it free (for me) but it arrived safely and quickly. This is the reason why I am writing this review. No I do not work for A.R.M. I don't know how you can buy it, I'm just writing this review because I like their product and company.
The Review: Packaging is simple, just a gold envelope you tear with your finger. The screen protector has 2 cutouts, 1 for the front facing camera and the other for the speaker and sensors. It is covered both sides to keep it protected. The install is simple as usual. I installed in the restroom with steam from the shower. The screen protector is noticeably thinner than most which is why it has such great coverage while not lifting up on the sides. It uses static to stick on the phone, no sticky residue. There was somewhat of a drag at first, so I thoroughly wiped it down with a microfiber and it felt a lot better. Obviously there is nothing like glass, but this feels similar to the SGP dry screen protectors. It attracts some oil (not much), but it comes off easily. In some angles you can see some rainbowing, but not noticeable in normal situations.

i just put on vzw clear ones on my gnex.. hate it.... want to take it off already . There is this crazy rainbow pattern going on that i cannot stand.
Where do i purchase this A.R.M screen protector? looks really good

I'm using a Clairvue protector and no word of a lie, it feels just as smooth as the glass on the GN or iPad 2. Zero friction that I can feel.
Compared with a Zagg invisible shield, which had a lot of friction, this protector is a joy. Do you think the one you are using will always have that drag? That would make gaming a pain (literally ) in the fingers.

I dunno, I have a Clarivue ultra-clear on mine, and there is a bit of the drag sensation when it's clean (as in, just wiped down with isopropyl alcohol clean). But once you get a bit of oil from your hands on there it's very smooth.

The alcohol is drying the plastic, this might be the cause of the drag. I stopped using alcohol years ago to clean my screen (protectors) as they would always be negatively affected by it.

Bummer. I can't believe how smooth it is.
I emailed them the other day and got no response. Looks like they are waiting for the website to be setup before taking orders.
Received an email from them this morning and heres what they said;
"Mike,
Thanks your support and sorry late to reply email.
We are no any online shop."
Wow I want that... tried almost every screen cover wet and dry for the galaxy nexus and none of them have satisfied me still...got spoiled by the sgp glas when I had my Galaxy SII How is the coverage on the Clarivue screen covers? Is it close to the ARM?
I got a set of these in the mail yesterday and they are fantastic. The protector itself is extremely thin though and thus results in imperfections. Way better than the VZW ones I had been using that's for sure.

Why bash this company and say SGP was first? This company could have been first they are actually shipping now not just taking pre-orders. I first saw this protector on ebay around the same time the SGP was posted on here so who knows who was first?
I have no affiliation with them I'm just saying there is no point in saying it's not unique when they are the first company SHIPPING one so it actually is unique

Strange, before it said pre-order rather than add to cart
Might have been overwhelmed because of preorders, hence the long expected ship time. Either way I'd love to see a review on the Tridea, but SGP makes some high quality products, especially screen protectors.
Also, it is available on Amazon. It's $11.99

This has a good price but the sgp covers under the button and above the speaker. Wish this one did, I'd try it.
Fwiw. The sgp dealer i ordered from told be they had issues with the first batch that came in and that they are going to have to cut a new match which might cause further dealay.

I got mine today and they were a little difficult to align properly but not bad. You have to press on the edges several times to get them to stick but if your persistent they will stay down. The clarity is pretty good. When the screen is off there are some weird looking sport that almost look like orange peel but they are smooth and you cannot feel them. When the screen is on you cannot see these spots at all. These are just my first thoughts. I will report back in a few days to see if the edges stay down.
Overall I am pretty happy with the protector. They are much better than the straight ones that don't stick to the edges.
Amazon no longer has this screen protector. I was just about to order it too.

Then SGP failed with first batch of Neo Hybrid.
Goodness, are they testing it out on a customers?
p.s. Tridea owners, any comments on a subject?

Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
No it won't but I'm on my third zagg hd and they (in my opinion) aren't the greatest. I recommend spg or dba screen protectors.

im honestly not certain how some people can be having so many problems.
(im not saying that there can't be...)
I have the Zagg HD with a case on my phone and it covers pretty much everything that I could want, its nice and clear, it's stayed on well, it feels way nicer than the old Zagg screen protectors ( you can still feel it) but my finger glides very nicely on it, it cleans off well.
the only problem I've heard about it that people dont like is that it dents easily ( I haven't managed to dent it yet except for while I was applying it.
people are saying the dents don't go away....and after I dented mine I was worried that would be the case for me too, but sure enough, 2 days later, I noticed the dents were gone.
Now...I got mine for 50% off ($10) would I pay $20? eh......yeah...but I might investigate some other options first.
now...as far as wrecking the phone...nah, be careful don't get a ton of solution in any of the holes, and make sure you have the battery out when you do it. I'd also leave the battery out for a few hours if you really want to be careful but I tossed mine back in almost immediately.
There are many peoole who are unhappy with this zagg after googling. Most of the review are only half good. I think I will skip this. And get the curved spigen

There are many reasons I dislike the zagg hd that I don't feel like going into right now.

I have the Zagg HD on my S3 and I don't like it because it still requires a bumper. I wish they had it wrap around the edges for drops.
I will never buy a ZAGG protector again.
This is the "HD" version.

Damn that looks bad. Mine was just like yours but not as bad. I finally went with a spg ultra clear and didn't have a problem with it. Feels and looks like glass. Zagg's are not the greatest. I will never use a Zagg again.

It just got worse and worse and worse, I couldn't bear it. They then want to charge you for shipping and handling to get it replaced, which is AFTER you send it back. It's so stupid. It's not just phones either, I had a zagg on my iPad 2 a few years back that did the same. I got it for the S3 because I assumed they would realize their stupidity. Oh well.
Where did you get yours? Link please .
I ordered the Spectre glass, hopefully that does the job.
hmm someone has to post their screens of these other protectors people have been mentioning.
Ram, how long have you been using that screen protector? I've had mine for about 3 months now.. and it has maybe one or two small marks similar to yours. You seem to be making very good use of the screen protector lol.
Rams99
That's exactly how my first replacement looked like after two weeks. I'm on my third and even though it's better then the previous two I had it still has two marks that won't get away and I can't stand the rubber feel.

Zagg is crap like most people know. I had one on my old GNex and it felt like crap and dented really easily. So I got Skinomi.
If you want a good wet apply screen protector then Skinomi is the one. Little to no orange peel, and doesn't have that rubbery feeling. xoskins is also good but it's more rubbery. Free shipping too for US and Canada.

Thats about what mine looks like too. Zagg HD sucks.
This is what happened to my phone when i tried to use zagg.
Wow HanMan that looks horrible. I've had Zagg covers in the past but I've never seen such denting. I've tried the cheap screen protectors available on auction websites for a few dollars and overall they aren't horrible and offer at least some protection. Much better than having a screen that looks as bad as what you are observing.
They aren't the best available anymore, but they get the job done when applied correctly. I have them installed on all my devices.

Help me with picking a screen protector

Right now I am using a DBA screen protector and although it is a great protector, it is not what I am looking for. I am looking for a protector that covers the whole screen and does not leave the 1mm edge around it that looks like it is lifting up. And a protector that looks as clear as the naked screen.
So far I have narrowed it down to these two. I wish I could see both in person. Thats why I am asking you guys is you have had experience with either. I figure XDA is probably a better source than amazon reviews as many here are picky like I am.

Thanks!

I just ordered a set of 3 from xtremeguard.com. They're $5 each, but order 3 and use the code '80off3' and get 80% off. So 3 for $3, free shipping! I hope they don't suck...
Thanks phixional for the tip.
Unfortunately, I haven't tried either of those. I use the Zagg HD screen right now, and I can say that it keeps the screen looking sharp and protects it well. Don't go to cheap and end up with a scratch and regret not spending the extra $5
try the realook one, its really high quality and is super durable
I've used the both ArmorSuit screen protector and the dba one, currently using the dba. The ArmorSuit does indeed cover the whole screen and even comes with a small film that covers the home button. Installation is the standard wet application, it slides around pretty easily once you set it on the phone before the water is squeege'd out. Be warned though that the ArmorSuit dents very easily and contrary to their "self healing" claim, it's not true. I had a weird dent on the top part of my screen protector and thought it would go away eventually, two weeks later it was still there. Also in terms of smoothness, it's pretty smooth for a wet application but the dba screen protector wins in that regard. Customer service for AS is also pretty good, I told them about the dent and they sent me two new screen protectors.
Just for comparison's sake, I've owned a skinomi screen protector for an iPhone4s, it's not as smooth as AS and it acquired an orange peel effect in a pretty short amount of time. There was also some imperfections on the screen protector that caused vertical streaks all over the protector. But customer server for skinomi is excellent and they sent me a new pack after I told them about the issue.
I would still say that dba > AS > skinomi but if you're really keen on having the screen protector cover the whole face of the phone then I would suggest you go with AS
dont know how come this isnt mentioned more often but i have been using bestskinsever for some time and ive been extremely pleased with them. they are pretty cheap to boot too. just grabbed a bunch during the BOGO for black friday
I have a friend that says he likes the armor suit military. I have yet to get a screen protector and might just go without one but I think if I do I will go with the armor suit as I have heard others that like it.

I actually ended up with the hd. I like it and it has minimal orange peel. However, the installer nicked it in a couple of spots and said they would go away within 5 days or so (otherwise they will replace it). They have gotten smaller and I am on day two. Have you had experience with dings fully going away?
Thanks for the replies!!

Heard good things about the skinomi protector. I ordered the armorsuit. Both are highly rated on Amazon.com.

What do you think of the Skimomi? I wonder if I can use it with the TPU case.
I tried the Armor Suit and it shows nicks in it ... they say it heals over time, but after a week it still shows them

I'll echo this. I've used this brand on multiple devices and I've always been very happy with it. I just ordered from them yesterday. They are very inexpensive and have a 30% off sale through the 14th.
Anyone tried glass screen protector from xgearlive.com for this device?

I like the Xtremeguard protectors because mine seems to get better the longer I use it.
