Review: A.R.M. Screen Protector - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Made by: A.R.M. (www.armstation.com)
Model: Samsung i9250 (GSM)
Dry or Wet: Dry
My Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE (Verizon)
Compatible with GSM & LTE
Rating: 8/10
About me: I am writing this section because I want to justify my review. I have been following phones and accessories since 2002. I have tried anything and everything. I have put screen protectors or similar products on almost all my electronics (iPod, Macbook Pro, Nintendo DS, etc) since 2002. I have tried Zagg, Best Skins Ever (BSE), Verizon brand screen protectors, SGP, etc.
A.R.M. vs ALL: I always bought SGP screen protectors because of the clarity and glass-like feel of the screen protector. I swore by it, but I was disappointed at the coverage. And there was no way in hell I was going to get a wet screen protector again. The one thing I learned is that never ever ever ever ever buy a wet screen protector, I don't care what you say about XO having ALMOST ALMOST ALMOST no orange peel. ALMOST isn't going to cut it for me. I decided to get the A.R.M. because it was dry, great screen coverage, and the Nexus glass is pretty strong.
A.R.M. Customer Service: A.R.M. had great customer service, I requested a sample through my connection on Thursday, received it on Monday. It took less than 3 business days to arrive from Hong Kong. INSANE, not only was it free (for me) but it arrived safely and quickly. This is the reason why I am writing this review. No I do not work for A.R.M. I don't know how you can buy it, I'm just writing this review because I like their product and company.
The Review: Packaging is simple, just a gold envelope you tear with your finger. The screen protector has 2 cutouts, 1 for the front facing camera and the other for the speaker and sensors. It is covered both sides to keep it protected. The install is simple as usual. I installed in the restroom with steam from the shower. The screen protector is noticeably thinner than most which is why it has such great coverage while not lifting up on the sides. It uses static to stick on the phone, no sticky residue. There was somewhat of a drag at first, so I thoroughly wiped it down with a microfiber and it felt a lot better. Obviously there is nothing like glass, but this feels similar to the SGP dry screen protectors. It attracts some oil (not much), but it comes off easily. In some angles you can see some rainbowing, but not noticeable in normal situations.

I'm using a Clairvue protector and no word of a lie, it feels just as smooth as the glass on the GN or iPad 2. Zero friction that I can feel.
Compared with a Zagg invisible shield, which had a lot of friction, this protector is a joy. Do you think the one you are using will always have that drag? That would make gaming a pain (literally ) in the fingers.

I dunno, I have a Clarivue ultra-clear on mine, and there is a bit of the drag sensation when it's clean (as in, just wiped down with isopropyl alcohol clean). But once you get a bit of oil from your hands on there it's very smooth.

The alcohol is drying the plastic, this might be the cause of the drag. I stopped using alcohol years ago to clean my screen (protectors) as they would always be negatively affected by it.

No, the drag was there fresh out of the box, just after I installed it.

Bummer. I can't believe how smooth it is.

I emailed them the other day and got no response. Looks like they are waiting for the website to be setup before taking orders.

Received an email from them this morning and heres what they said;
"Mike,
Thanks your support and sorry late to reply email.
We are no any online shop."

Wow I want that... tried almost every screen cover wet and dry for the galaxy nexus and none of them have satisfied me still...got spoiled by the sgp glas when I had my Galaxy SII How is the coverage on the Clarivue screen covers? Is it close to the ARM?

I got a set of these in the mail yesterday and they are fantastic. The protector itself is extremely thin though and thus results in imperfections. Way better than the VZW ones I had been using that's for sure.

Screen protector

I bought 5pcs for about $3 off of ebay which is a great deal but it looks like they were cut wrong because it doesnt line up great.
Here is the link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/29064751891...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1898wt_897
I really dont want to pay $18 for a single one, like Steinheil.
My question is, have any of you bought cheap ones that lines up perfect with the phone and corners?
As with many things you get what you pay for.
I have the Skinomi which one of the early ones available and its been ok:
http://www.skinomi.com/
The more I use them the more I recommend the wet apply one as they seem to have less bubble and last longer. For people who are worried just go to best buy or a mall stand and have someone who installs them all day install it.
Most of the newer screen protectors don't line up directly to the edge if thats what your referring to. They save space on the edges so that it doesn't peel off as easy and a lot of new cases cover the edges to. Plus they save money by using less material. I have the ones from verizon and they dont go edge to edge. I even believe that the new Zagg's are being cut the same way.

I actually hate the ones that uses water to install, such as invisiShield. They are not as slippery as the ones that stick on there.
Is skinomi requires water to install?

No I am definitely not looking for a perfect fit but the ones I bought does not line up straight, from top corner to bottom corner. I can buy verizon protectors $9 for 3pcs. So, if they dont line up crooked I am fine.
i bought this http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...BX5A/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1324879125&sr=8-6
i think it's worth it since i started using that brand since my first android, 2 yrs ago. it's really tough and durability is super good.
The reason why the nexus doesn't have a dry install that doesn't extend to the edge because our screens are slightly curved so they will create bubbles at the top and bottom of the screen. The wet screens protector will fit better because they are more bendable
I use a brand called terrapin on my GN. They're cheap on eBay but they're made from very hard plastic. They go right to the edges of the screen and fit really well with cut outs in the right place for the speaker, camera and various sensors.
The quality of these protectors is brilliant, no affect on screen quality at all and there's no rainbow effect or orange peel. There's a few light scratches I can see on the screen protector when bright lights are shone on the unlit screen but as soon as you wake the screen up you can't see them at all.

I would still use a screen protector dust/sand/dirt can get on your fingers and still scratch it plus anything gets in the case and the cover may scratch it. I am super paranoid about scratches though so it may be just me.
There's a bunch of discussion in the Accessories forum on which screen protector is the best. I vote for Verizon "clear" one.
Great! Ordered them. Hopefully they will turnout better.

Me too. Too paranoid. As much as I would like to use the phone without a screen protector to view s amoled with its glory, I will kick myself in the gonads if I end up scratching it.

In their videos the take a dremel to one and it stops the bit. No way the cheap plastic ones would.
Orange peel is my biggest problem with expensive ones such as invisible shield.
XO skins looks pretty legit. I wish I had seen it before I purchased the one I posted earlier
If they are not too too expensive I might pick that up too, as a back up.

One of those will last the life-time of the phone.

Best CLEAR screen protector ???

I need a really good clear screen protector that isn't crap. Something that will last and I don't mind spending $20+ on it. Any suggestions?
I got the XO skin case fit. It's cut more around the edge so you can use a case with it and not have to worry about it peeling the skin. It's awesome so far. It doesn't have the orange peel effect like invisible shield which I used on my Incredible and Blackberrys back in the day. Gave the XO skin a try a just to see and it worked out great. If you use SPRINTXO as the promo code you get a discount. I did, but that was about a month ago. Could still work though. With the code it's like 14 bucks I think.
Thanks, I'll give it a try, but before I do I'd like to see what other people suggest, thanks for your suggestion though!

+1 for XO Skins. I use the regular one and it works with a case, it all depends on the case that you use. Even the regular goes from edge to edge except for the bottom, it leaves a small gap of uncovered space
Even though XO skins is really good, you might dislike the rubbery feeling of the screen protector. So far most screen protectors are either too short, has orange peels, thin, oil conductor, or rubbery. I don't think there is a dry application matte protector that covers the entire screen (will have somewhat of the edge peel effect, but cases like diztronics or otterbox should lip over it). I've ordered baselant couple days ago, and I'll see how that goes, and I've heard good things about martin fields, but they're really expensive.
The screen protector that comes with the otterbox commuter is clear and smooth for operation. No discoloration or orange peel effect like I had with the I shield on it. a good option if you don't already have a descent case.

Awesome, I just ordered that case last week lol. It's coming in the 2nd so I will see it then, does it cover the whole front or JUST the screen?
+1 For XO Skins as well. Mine fits great, has no orange peel. Here is their video if you missed it. It fills in scratches and hides smudges really well.
I am using SGP Ultra oleophobic dry protector and Diztronic v3 case and have been real happy with the setup.
I had used the Verizon clear dry protector and it's hard to wipe off oil and smudges.

Sadly, this is pretty much the state of the GNex screen protectors now. You really gotta ask yourself what you like to have and what you hate.
Dry (clear/matte) - large margin around the screen
Wet - slight rubbery
I went with wet (XO skin) because I don't use swype, so the slightly rubbery texture doesn't bother me at all but having a visible border of the dry protector does. And there's no orange peel effect like Zagg.
Just ordered some boxwave cleartouch screenprotectors yesterday. Will report back when they get here.
I have always use Zagg invisible shields for every phone and tablet I have had no no issues at all. The only phone it didn't look good on was the nexus one. I just went to Best Buy and got one for the Galaxy Nexus and applied it perfect. I hope that the one sold at BB is supposed to fit the GSM model. I didn't have any issues except a very small amount at the top but not sure if that's normal because I think they are the same size.
I recommend Martin fields. It's a dry screen protector, edge to edge, and clear.I got it for $15.99 + free shipping from expansys.

Agreed. I've just took mine off and washed it under the cold tap (had dust under the screen but only just decided to remove it after 2 months or so) and it stuck back down with no trouble at all.

I had a zagg and it was okay but took a hit and luckily saved the screen which is what it is there for. I had to replace it because of the gash it suffered but the screen was fine. I had already ordered a ghost armor screen kit and decided to try it instead while waiting for my zagg replacement. Needless to say the zagg is still unopened in the box. The ghost armor has less orange peel and I also like the way the cutouts were done. The zagg looks cheap and sloppy around the speaker and camera and leaves the glass exposed. It is also prone to peeling in that area. The ghost armor does scratch more than the zagg because I think the zagg is softer. So that is the trade-off for less orange peel. The zagg does seem to heal itself a tad better but its not enough for me to put it back on.

And I think we could more or less reach the conclusion that if anyone wants full screen coverage for GNex, he/she has to go for the wet protectors because of the curved screen.

When I said no full coverage, I mean the visible margin around the phone because the screen protector is cut smaller than the screen. Thanks for sharing though. Its cutting is better than SGP already judging by the photos.

Why bash this company and say SGP was first? This company could have been first they are actually shipping now not just taking pre-orders. I first saw this protector on ebay around the same time the SGP was posted on here so who knows who was first?
I have no affiliation with them I'm just saying there is no point in saying it's not unique when they are the first company SHIPPING one so it actually is unique

Strange, before it said pre-order rather than add to cart
Might have been overwhelmed because of preorders, hence the long expected ship time. Either way I'd love to see a review on the Tridea, but SGP makes some high quality products, especially screen protectors.

Fwiw. The sgp dealer i ordered from told be they had issues with the first batch that came in and that they are going to have to cut a new match which might cause further dealay.

I got mine today and they were a little difficult to align properly but not bad. You have to press on the edges several times to get them to stick but if your persistent they will stay down. The clarity is pretty good. When the screen is off there are some weird looking sport that almost look like orange peel but they are smooth and you cannot feel them. When the screen is on you cannot see these spots at all. These are just my first thoughts. I will report back in a few days to see if the edges stay down.
Overall I am pretty happy with the protector. They are much better than the straight ones that don't stick to the edges.
Amazon no longer has this screen protector. I was just about to order it too.

You might've seen a momentary Amazon stock hiccup, because I see that it's still in stock for $12. I have it "saved for later" as a 2nd choice while I await SGP's Curved Crystal.
with the sgp one's you get two pieces.

SGP failed with first batch of "Curved Crystal"
Then SGP failed with first batch of Neo Hybrid.
Goodness, are they testing it out on a customers?
p.s. Tridea owners, any comments on a subject?
Are these worth it? Seem to be the cheapest screen protectors for the quality?

New XtremeGuard HD Screen Protector

Today XtremeGuard released a new "HD" screen protector model, now with dry application instead the old wet application
It's a clear model (invisible), ultra anti-scratch, etc. The FAQ says it's not a tempered glass protector, but a "ultra hard PET very similar to glass".
https://www.xtremeguard.com/Articles.asp?ID=261
Someone already tried it? It's a good protector?
It's already avaible to nexus 5 here, just U$6,00 + 90% off if buy 2 or more items using coupon "90off" (+ free shipping to USA)

Awesome, thanks for the heads up! :good:
Just placed my order.. $1.20 shipped for 2 great protectors?? It's crazy not to get.
I have the 'old style' of XtremeGuard on my phone right now, and even though its protecting my device REALLY well, I'm starting not to like the thick 'rubbery feel.' I also have a small scratch on the protector that I accidentally made when rubbing out bubbles when I first got it, and my OCD hates it! lmao.. So i didnt want to buy another one, and i didnt wanna spend $15-$40 on a freakin' protector, so im stoked about this!
Thanks again
Order a HD and a Original ^.^

Just ordered a hd for my Nexus 5 and iPhone 5. $1.20 shipped. I'll report back with a mini review when it arrives.

I have had nothing but a great experience with the regular xtremeguard shield, had it on my Nexus 4 too. One thing I did was to use some car wax on it, make it considerably smoother and easier to clean. Just placed an order on the new HD one.
Ordered a red 16gb N5 yesterday, and just saw this thread. Thanks OP. I got a back protector, new HD front protector and install kit for $1.70 shipped. Nice!
Did anyone get their's? Wonder how thick it is, how it feels vs bare glass, and the clarity.
Boo for $6 shipping to get them to Canada.
I got mine already :3

My guess is that these are just the normal plastic screen protectors that were popular before the wet application ones came out. No different than the ones you can buy at T-Mobile or Verizon stores. I use the regular XtremeGuard screen protectors for every device of mine and I love them. They're cheap and I'm good at installing them. No need to spend $30+ at a Ghost Armor or Invisible Shield kiosk in the mall.

Same thing here... Not very happy with the product. I knew it was bad before i even installed it as the side edges weren't even cut straight.
I received mine too and the top/edge is peeling off and there were dust particles. i contacted them and asked for a replacement.
Thought I'd order one of the dry application ones, it's gonna take a MONTH to arrive!!! now, I know I'm in the UK but come on, in this day and age it shouldn't take a month to send something from the US to the UK...
It feels really nice and smooth. But the top cut outs are terrible. Contacted customer service they said they will replace. We'll see if they fixed their first run issues.

I got the hd ones. Didn't even bother installing. They are generic plastic screen protectors. I'll stick with my non hd wet apply for sure

Same thing happened with me. I thought I was just incompetent.
Still don't know why people continue to go with XtremeGuard. The only thing that gets them sales is their big discounts of their "original" price. The quality is pretty horrible. The wet apply ones are very grippy and make your device feel crap.

maybe its a carrier fault, we cant blame the seller. Here on brazil the national carrier is a huge sh*t. The progress between any country to brazil only took 3~5 days. Then the package goes to the national carrier on the "international scan" and stay there for 40 days until anyone found your package lost in a pile of other millions package and send it to your city carrier

I dont bought this HD screen protector, but looking these pictures it feels really crap
I'm using the "standard" (wet) protector and althrough the wet installation and "grip-feeling", I'm already using for 3 months and it stay 100% perfect as the first day I apply it. No dust, no damage, no scratches, no edges taking off. It's not the 'best' protector in the world, but much more resistant than others brands
I'm glad to see I'm not the only person having bad luck with the HD ones. they already shipped me out 2 replacements.

My review of the amFilm Moto G screen protector

Just received my amFilm screen protectors and have to say they are one of the best plastic screen guards I've used to date. Here is what the company has to say on their amazon page: (then my opinions)
Invisible, superior quality, 3-layer PET film that will not distort the High Definition screen clarity/natural color pallette
Protects screen from daily scratches, dust, scrapes, and normal signs of wear
Attaches smoothly with self-adhering surface, leaves no residue when removed
Includes: (3) Screen Protectors, Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloth, Squeeze Card, Installation Manual
The package I received looks very professional and was undamaged during transit thanks to the bubble wrap envelope they used to send it in. :good:

Inside the packaging, I found the usual items, (squeegee card, microfiber cloth) plus a couple things usually not found with screen protectors, like detailed installation instructions (2 methods described) and dust removal/hinge stickers. Nice touch.
I prefer using the side hinge method of application, but I'm sure vertical application is just as good.
After applying the protector, I went about looking closely at it in different light sources, swiping and tapping my brains out. I have to say that after the initial "break-in" (getting skin oil worked in) I really couldn't tell the difference between the protector and real glass. It's very smooth and hard. Touch response was not affected at all by it, at least I couldn't tell any difference. There is no rainbow effect when viewed closely in the light, and as a matter of fact, it looks like clear glass.
Screen coverage is just about edge to edge, so even without a case, you really can't tell it's on there. Cutouts are perfectly aligned.
It is somewhat oleophobic, but I have yet to see one that is 100% anti skin oil. But good nonetheless. If I didn't tell you I had a screen protector on my phone, you'd be hard pressed to notice it. This is simply the best one I've used so far, and they now have a loyal customer. And, as of this writing, they are only $1.00 for 3 (includes shipping) http://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Invisi...ywords=amfilm+premium+screen+protector+moto+g
I defy you to find a better deal. Great product, awesome price. I would pay $1 per sheet for these, easily. Look no further if you need screen protectors for your G. amFilm makes screen protectors for other phones too.
I would show you how it looks on my phone, but it's invisible!

You won't regret it. Just take your time and do it right.
A friend of mine just commented how much like glass it looks and feels like. :good:

In my opinion this is much better , yes the price is a little higher, but worth the money

This isn't a comparison thread. If you want to talk about that particular screen protector, start a new thread.
I bought one the other day. $1 total.
How is it installed? With water or?
Dry install
Just ordered mine of Amazon. Good price and looks really good!
Got mine today!! I ordered it the 13th and Amazon said it was going to come either the 20th or 25th. Pretty damn good.
The installation is very easy, though you have to have stickers ready when doing step 1-2 because otherwise keeping the protector in "place" is sort of hard because its a little slippery. But once you put on the stickers it's very easy to just simply put it on.
The screen quality is great. I don't even notice it's on. Great protector for the price. I did the Hinge Installation by the way. It's very easy. If you don't get it, watch the video they supply in with the QR code in the instruction manual.
I just received my amFilm screen protectors today, and they're pretty good, but I don't have much to compare them to. I've only put screen protectors on two of my phones before. The only thing I'll have to get used to is the fact that swiping from the side, I catch on the edge of the screen protector. I use Sidebar Pro, with my trigger set at the middle of the right edge of the screen. Swiping to open the bar, I catch on the protector, but not badly enough to disrupt what I'm doing. Other than that, so far, so good.
Hi,
your review reads so awesome that I tried to purchase these protectors. However I live in Germany and they do not ship to countries outside the US.
I would like to ask you for a favour: would someone buy these protectors (pref. with prime for free shipping) and then forward them to be in Germany? Can someone guess how much this would be? I would really appreciate this.
Screen protectors here cost about 9-11 USD and I cannot find any reviews.

They are no longer $1.00 on amazon, and now go for $4.95. With shipping, they would be very expensive. You're better off just buying what's available in Germany.

So they don't get unresponsive? I've had some on my Pico which did.
after removing the crap screen protector that came with my otterbox commuter case, which had an insane amount of glare and made the screen so unresponsive it was frustrating, this HD clear screen protector by amfilm truly delivers as op stated. there is now zero glare and the touch responsiveness is pin point accurate! I'm one very satisfied customer. thank you for the recommendation sir.
