[Q] Stuck on "touch android to begin" after attempting to flash stock - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello, I tried to post this in the developer forum but I am new so not allowed. I currently have a Galaxy S2 White t989 from t-mobile. Two days ago I upgraded my phone to official ICS via kies, I was already on Stock GB before and ICS made me phone practically unusable. I read a thread with directions on how to flash to stock from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359
I followed those procedures to a t and now when my phone boots I can't get it past touch "android" to begin and a million things begin to "force close..g,apps,etc) Is there something I am missing? Just got this phone and I hope I haven't forever messed it up. If anyone has a link to a thread already solving the same issue...please let me know. I am a newbie with flashing so please have patience.

factory reset data

Thanks for your reply, but how would I go about doing this...I can't get pass the set-up screen to access the phone features. Is there another method to performing this.

Happened to me also, what I read was install clockwork recovery via ODIN (look for the thread in the other sections). Then you'll need to wipe cache and dalvic cache. Then you'll be able to continue to set up your phone.

OK great, will try it out, please wish me luck everyone. Love my s2, would be terrible if it is unusable.

Ok, so I installed clockwork recovery and still having the same issues...how I didn't anything with the recovery prompting to clear those caches?

yay!! back on stock and everything is working great..much thanks!!

Hello
I'm having the same issue that was stated above. I used the SGSII toolkit to do the stock rom flash and that is how I got to this point. I just wanted to know if using the process shown here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858435 ? I skipped number 1 since it says it is optional. I now cannot find the "T989UVLH1.tar.md5" and all I can find is a file named "T989UVLH1_T989TMBLH1_T989UVLH1_HOME.tar.md5". Am I supposed to rename this one? Thank you very much.
edit.
I used the file T989UVLH1_T989TMBLH1_T989UVLH1_HOME.tar.md5 in odin>PDA>start. Then had an com.android.phone stopped unexpectedly problem. Used the toolkit to do a factory reset and everything is fine now. I'll have to do a little more research before I try rooting again, gave me too many headaches.

wipe and reflash the rom. or wipe and try another rom and kernel. every time you wipe, you want to reflash.
yea i already tried doing that and it would do the same thing.
I would try going into recovery and load a restore point first, hopefully there IS one.
I had this happen a few times to me while over flashing and restoring fixed the problem.
I'd rather flash the takju build via fastboot using efrants step by step instructions. If I were to buy a used phone I'd want to do all the rooting and flashing as if it were a new device.

restore point? lmao! theres no such thing. you can restore a nandroid backup, but i doubt the previous owner would leave it in your sd storage considering all his/her personalinformation/data would be contained in it.
i got it to work now. i was able to learn and unroot the phone through the guide. at first i thought it wouldnt work cause i couldnt access the phone to put it in debugging mode but i guess it was already on and i did the whole unrooting process and flash stock image with no problems. thanks guys

[Q] GNex Unable to Boot

Hello there, I've tried searching before starting this thread, but as of now, I'm panicked already, that I might have killed my GNex.
My GNex is unrooted, and is of the yakjuxw variant. I just received the OTA update to 4.2.1 today, but immediately regretted my decision - as it was noticeably laggier and buggier compared to my previous version - 4.1.1. I searched on how to downgrade it to 4.1.1 / 4.1.2, and I found several threads mentioning doing it manually (the SDK method), but being a total noob on these, I decided to go for the Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit.
I backed up my files, unlocked the bootloader, and rooted my phone using the toolkit (my phone could still enter the homescreen in this step), and proceeded to flash the IMGs with the factory image from Google, but after that, my phone gets stuck at the Nexus's flashing "x" screen, never entering the homescreen. And, I did not make a Nandroid backup prior to flashing it (sigh). Is there still hope for my GNex?
What I plan to do now is to install Odin, download this Stock-Unroot Jellybean thing, then restore it to stock following this thread, then maybe go for the SDK method this time. Are there any other methods for the situation I'm in? E.g. use Odin to flash it to 4.1.2 (the version I want) straight?
I also found this Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, should I use it instead?
Please help, I'm really confused and panicked . I'm downloading the required stuff currently, with a very slow internet speed, so I'll check this thread tomorrow morning.
download the "wugfresh toolkit", and choose the option "soft bricked" , and flash another rom, the program is very easy to use. your phone is probably ok.
Thank you, thank you so much! I tried that just now, but it said that the Fastboot couldn't work or something, that's why I freaked out. Tried again and yeah, it works. Thank you so much!
Thread can be closed, sorry for spamming, moderators.
Stop trying to use a crutch like the toolkit. Take 5 minutes and follow the stickies on setting up ADB and fastboot so you can do if correctly yourself.
The lowest risk is to follow this post: Link
It will restore factory image. No matter if it's rooted or not!
It's easy and you don't need to setup Android SDK or something.
Greetings

[Q] Bootloop with no Recovery/Download mode

Hi everybody,
I'm relatively new to ROMs and I think I've made a mistake. I rooted my phone with CASUAL (because I'm a noob like that), and after about of week of playing around with my new features I decided to try and get a new ROM, CyanogenMod 10.1. I followed a video guide on youtube called "How to install CyanogenMod 10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on the Samsung Galaxy S III/3" (can't post links) and used GooManager to flash the ROM over. The phone rebooted and it took me to a teamwin loading screen followed by a menu with 8 options. I thought it was weird, as it wasn't in the video, but one of the options was "install" so I clicked that, it showed the .zip for the ROM so I hit "flash". It rebooted again now and now continuously displays the spinning loading screen for CyanogenMod. I remember reading something something about CM 10 not working with ICS bootloaders, but all of the guides I read about flashing CM made no mention of it, so I didn't think much of it. Is this my problem?
I made a ROM backup with CWM Recovery, app and data backups with Titanium root, and even backed up my EFS folder, so I'm not worried about any data loss involved in a factory wipe or reset, but I need help getting there. I've read things about a USB jig, is this what I need to do? If so, , do I just need to make/buy and plug in the jig? What do I do afterwards?
Any and all help will be appreciated

If it does anything it isn't a hard brick. Never use rom manager or goo manager to flash something. That is a sure fire way to kill your phone.
If it was an out of date boot loader it wouldn't have flashed.
By the sounds of if your bootloop is from not wiping.
Go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38838122
Everything you need to know is there. Pay close attention to step 5a it's proper wiping for twrp. Re wipe, re flash and you'll be fine. Don't forget to flash the gappps. Those videos are good and bad. Especially if you have no idea what you're doing it's a real fast way to a brick.

[Q] CWM recovery Incomplete phone restarts

Hello all, my First post so please bear with me, Been using these forums for quite a while and all answers have been allready given, so no need to post... till now.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 i747 running android 4.1.2 OTA update and used CF-Autoroot. No problems there,
installed Rom manager, and cwm recovery touch. no problem
When I restart in recovery mode, also everything seems fine...
When I try to backup the phone however using cwm recovery it starts backing up everything including system but the just as it starts data the phone restarts.
Tried reinstalling cwm over and over different versions.. nada same result..
went into the settings to mount the various options as suggested to another user. same problem nada...
To be completely clear, I am trying to make a backup of my stock / rooted only Galaxy s3 i747 onto it's own storage NOT SDcard.
as I also could not figure that out either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Erdericks1976
Sorry about misleading Subject. This is about making my first backup successfully..
Followup.
Well seems there are/were more problems here than I thought, it has begun randomly? restarting,..
Well. not Ramdomly. Whem specific apps are run it would restart.
I did a titanium backup and it would backup alot of the apps. but them would restart the phone when it got to 1 specific app.
I think I figured out what I did wrong here.
I have a Galaxy Note 2, and I may have flashed something from it by mistake......
so I have restarted my Gs3 From scratch Re-Following all instructions.. waiting to test and see if CWM works to back it up now..
It sure was faster with the Note2 rooted Kernel though. (if that was in fact what happend)
I'll update soon as its done..
Followup 2
Yep. that musta been it. Used the correct stock (rooted) Rom
OTA updated from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2, then used CF auto root to Re-root, then reinstalled SU and CWM and Backing up now.
Just passed the Data section the phone would always restart at...

Can't get Note to boot.

Hey all. Fist off, sorry about the new account and posting here in the Q&A and not development, but let me explain. I have been a member of XDA for a few years- my main account(and only account until being forced to create this one) is andr0id23. However, I am unable to login to that account. I keep getting an incorrect password error message and am constantly locked out of my account. I have emailed the people who can help with this issue, but still not having any luck. They did reset my password(even though I knew my password), but that still doesn't work. I try it once but it says i have used up all my attempts and locks me out for what is supposed to be 15 minutes, but seems to be forever instead. But I digress, just wanted to explain why I am posting from a brand new account and in this section(new accounts are not allowed to post in development). Now on to my issues I am hoping someone can help with. I typed it up in notepad last night while waiting for my account to be accessible and am just going to copy and paste it:
Hi all, I was hoping to get some help on my Galaxy Note 8.0. It is model number GT-N5110. It was given to me by a friend, who likes
to try rooting his devices, but has no experience and is actually quite computer illiterate. When I received it it wouldn't boot up,
but only go do a screen that says something like "Downloading. Please do not power off". I have no idea what is on there as far as firmware
or custom ROMs.
I am pretty comfortable with Android development as far as flashing custom ROMs, rooting, unlocking bootloaders, etc, but haven't been active for
some time now. I have owned a Droid, Droid 2, HTC Incredible, Droid X, HTC Thunderbolt, and Motorola Xoom and have rooted,
unlocked, and/or installed custom ROMs on all of them, ass well as doing so on several devices that aren't mine. I have used "one click" type methods
as well as more hands-on adb methods. I just mention so to show that while I am far from an expert, I do have some experience.
But I am stuck on this tablet. I can boot into Download Mode and was able to flash CWM Recovery via Odin. In CWM I tried
wiping data, cache and Dalvik cache, but when I go to reboot I get a message saying the device is not rooted and would I like to root. It doesn't seem to do any
good. I did try rooting thru odin, and it said it was successful. I have also flashed the stock firmware thru odin, but am still not able to boot. The
closest I get is a boot loop. Also, Kies does not recognize my device.
So, I can boot into download mode and CWM Recovery(though I don't know if I am actually rooted
and it will be of any use), and Odin does recognize the device. I have tried flashing stock firmware to no avail. If anyone
has any suggestions, I would be greatly appreciative and definitely willing to try. I can give you any additional info you
request. I was thinking of flashing a custom ROM, but not sure as I don't know what the tablet is currently running. If anyone
has anything to try as far as flashing a ROM or firmware, a d/l link would be greatly appreciated if at all possible.
I have been having the worst luck with samfirmware or sammobile(two sites that are named something like that). I have spent
literally hours waiting for the downloads, and the 2 times i did get lucky, the files were messed up. Again, I would be
extremely greatful for any and all help.

I would download stock ROM and flash with Odin 3.07. There are a number of threads that explain the process. Here is one... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728370&page=3

I was never able to grab any downloads from SamMobile or SamsungUpdates. It just loads forever until it times out. I did, however, grab a stock firmware download from another thread. I flashed it with Odin 3.07 but it did nothing for me. I am attempting to download the files from the 2 sites again now. Hopefully I'll have better luck. Thanks
Idiot
Ok so I am a complete tool. I was able to get it going. I knew what to do, and was doing it, but was doing it wrong. The thread you linked made it dawn on me. I was able to flash the stock firmware through odin 3.7. Sorry if I wasted your time and I thank you wholeheartedly. Now time to root and have some fun :good:
