Hello all, my First post so please bear with me, Been using these forums for quite a while and all answers have been allready given, so no need to post... till now.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 i747 running android 4.1.2 OTA update and used CF-Autoroot. No problems there,
installed Rom manager, and cwm recovery touch. no problem
When I restart in recovery mode, also everything seems fine...
When I try to backup the phone however using cwm recovery it starts backing up everything including system but the just as it starts data the phone restarts.
Tried reinstalling cwm over and over different versions.. nada same result..
went into the settings to mount the various options as suggested to another user. same problem nada...
To be completely clear, I am trying to make a backup of my stock / rooted only Galaxy s3 i747 onto it's own storage NOT SDcard.
as I also could not figure that out either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Erdericks1976
Sorry about misleading Subject. This is about making my first backup successfully..
Followup.
Well seems there are/were more problems here than I thought, it has begun randomly? restarting,..
Well. not Ramdomly. Whem specific apps are run it would restart.
I did a titanium backup and it would backup alot of the apps. but them would restart the phone when it got to 1 specific app.
I think I figured out what I did wrong here.
I have a Galaxy Note 2, and I may have flashed something from it by mistake......
so I have restarted my Gs3 From scratch Re-Following all instructions.. waiting to test and see if CWM works to back it up now..
It sure was faster with the Note2 rooted Kernel though. (if that was in fact what happend)
I'll update soon as its done..
Followup 2
Yep. that musta been it. Used the correct stock (rooted) Rom
OTA updated from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2, then used CF auto root to Re-root, then reinstalled SU and CWM and Backing up now.
Just passed the Data section the phone would always restart at...

Disclaimer: This worked on my phone. I am not responsible if your phone turns into an expensive brick.
I know this isn't quite the update everyone was waiting for I managed to pull the 2.3.6 OTA files. I also managed to figure out how to flash them. Turns out CWM 5 offers root adb access, everything we need to update and root this phone. Note I tried CWM 6 but it said "possible loss of root" so apparently CWM 6 likes to reside on an already rooted phone.
Note this is not the most elegant solution. The most elegant would be a signed update.zip. The second most elegant would be something flashable with CWM or Odin. Too bad I don't know how to do those. I do know how to do this.
The first thing to do is make sure you are on the AT&T stock firmware. It doesn't matter if you've already flashed something else. No need to wipe cache or factory reset or anything (although if you run into problems you should try to do that step). Download it from samfirmware.com. Flash it with Odin. This will put you on stock 2.3.5. Even if you were already on 2.3.6, or rooted, or on Rogers, this will work. After the flash, boot the phone normally, wait a minute or so, and shut it down.
Now for the fun part. AT&T will not push the OTA to a non AT&T customer. The flash will also not work with a modified phone (hence the reflash to stock). How to gain root access to manually flash the OTA? If we install root, it will not install. If we install CWM, we will not have the stock recovery which is required to process the OTA. So...
How about this? We install CWM 5. You can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458153
Then we adb into the phone, and push the OTA files, and then reflash the stock recovery over CWM, and then manually reboot into OTA mode. That sounds crazy... crazy enough to work.
After you've flashed CWM, reboot into it and make sure your phone is still connected to your computer. We won't actually be using CWM, just the root access it provides over adb. Unzip the two zip files below (why use external hosting, I can store zips up to 11 MB on here) into a folder and run fota.bat. Ooo and ahh over your Gingerbread.
But what about root? Well, I posted in another thread a complicated method for rooting 2.3.6 using the root access from CWM, but how about easy? Boot your phone into 2.3.6 and let it sit for a minute or so, and shut it down. Reboot into Odin mode, and reflash CWM over the stock recovery (again). Copy the Superuser zip from the folder you made earlier to your SD card. Flash this with CWM. This is the beta of Superuser 3.2, courtesy of Rom Manager. Download the stericson busybox app from the Market if you want busybox as well.
This was a fun way to kill a weekend
Throws a signature verification failed error.
Try again with the new method
Had a few mild scares. After flashing CWM on stock, it refused to boot into it but after 3 tries and my screen acting up upon boot, it finally booted into CWM. Launched the bat file and it went well. Upon booting up and entering the update process, it froze up at 74% and refused to continue. Rebooted the phone and it once again entered the update process and this time it managed to finish. Phone rebooted and after checking "About phone", my phone is on 2.3.6 stock. When you initially provided the OTA files and the sig check failed, I had a good feeling this would be the only other way to do it as I tried to sign it and it also failed. Thanks for taking the time to post all of this.
Why go to 2.3.6? It´s better than 2.3.5 customized?
Better question: we're getting ICS within the month, so why bother with 2.3.6 when you can just upgrade to 4.x.x when it comes down?

Because there are some people who will want to stick with 2.3.5/6 . He made this so that those who do, can update to 2.3.6 even when they aren't with AT&T, almost hassle free.

When I was testing this, I saw that behavior if you didn't completely boot up the phone between steps (ie, flash stock firmware, boot phone, flash CWM, boot phone). I don't know what would cause it otherwise. Glad to see your phone made it.

Actually I did it because I've owned this phone for exactly two weeks and discovered all the available ROMs are based on 2.3.5 even though 2.3.6 has been out since December. CWMR with root has been out since January, and since then nobody else has rooted 2.3.6 or found a way to flash it. And I thought, it couldn't be that hard? And even more amazed when I discovered CWMR comes with root out of the box, without even touching /system. The only other missing piece was the stock recovery, which also wasn't out in the wild. 3 birds for one stone
On a side note, if you want to do some cleaning after the OTA and you decide to root, you can delete /cache/fota and /data/fota safely.

Ah, I see. Well, still, being able to flash to 2.3.6 is nice because if anyone ever decides to stick with 2.3.6 they can easily flash the update now. Maybe more people like you will pop up and start pushing out more useful content like this for the Glide so it won't be a dead area of development anymore.
First of all, yes, I am an idiot, and yes, I have looked through the forums but just have to make sure I am downloading the correct thing.
So, a while ago, I rooted my t-mobile galaxy s3.
Today, I wanted to download a root-compatible app, it didn't work, turns out that my root somehow became disabled ( I might have accidentally wiped the superuser binaries)
So, I try to re-root my phone...several times. I finally think I have it rooted (using the official xda guide on how to root), and everything was fine, until i try to use superuser and it turns out that I am not rooted...for whatever reason. I do a hard reset a couple of times, it still shows that I am running alternate software and cannot update. I try to flash a stock rom to my phone, and that just simply fails on odin.
Now, I have completely formatted the SD and internal storage (probably very stupid), and I am just wondering how I could possibly flash a stock rom onto my phone, and if you could please link one because I believe the one I tried was not for my device.
If not, please provide some suggestions on what I should do. My device works, so it's not really time-sensitive, but I do want to re-root my android after I revert to stock roms, properly this time.
Thank you for your time and help!
Fixed
Fixed the problem, will be posting tutorial in the morning for anyone who might have the same issues!
Waiting for u!!
Hey guys I hope this isn't a noob question I watched the video and read the forum rules but a forum search comes up empty, something about adblock but I'm not running adblock!
Anyways I have an international unlocked samsung galaxy note II n7100, the non 4g version.
I used Odin to root the device and went on with my life enjoying root. Then I made the mistake of updating from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 while still rooted and it removed my root.
I've gone through so many links and forums here and elsewhere for three hours now, ran at least three separate versions of Odin. Most of them failed at the connection attempt, so a driver reinstall and restart of the samsung kies stuff fixed the connection problem.
After that I ran Odin with CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.tar and it said Restart ok and turned green but Clockworkmod recovery and supersu tell me root fails.
I'm really not sure what to do next here should I full wipe and start over? The data isn't super important to me so much as I need my external card flipped to internal so I don't have to deal with this tiny 10 GB useable space internal flash...
Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Did a full wipe and restored factory...then ran Odin and it finally rooted it back! Now however the app external 2 internal isn't working right so all of my backed up apps aren't showing up in carbon...er...Helium.
Thanks for help with the root and odin.
Edit
Sorted out the sd card issue as well. Thanks for the assistance in returning my phone back to life.
That was all u man
So I'm not a complete and utter n00b here, as I've been rooting and installing CM for at least three years now on several different phones. But this problem vexes me...
Patient: SIII, formerly rooted and running CM10.1 just fine. A few weeks ago, I tried to install a 10.2 stable build, and it somehow took my root away. I tried every trick I knew how - installing the root files via Odin (many versions), via ADB, via Kingo Root...nothing. Absolutely nothing I try will get this thing to give me my root back, and the ads are starting to really get on my nerves.
My ticker says 15 attempted installs, but I don't think it's blocking me from rooting...is it? All the phones I've rooted I've never had a problem like this, where absolutely nothing will allow root to "take", such as it is.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!
Wow, nothing? I figured someone would at least sigh heavily, berate me for not reading the forums completely, then point me to a thread where this has been discussed ad nauseum
Last night, I tried rooting with TWRP, CWM, every variant and trick I could find to get this thing to root for me, and while these things all seem to load fine, none of them give me my root access back. No one has any ideas?
Thanks!
help
im using rooted 4.3 stock rom in t999..
everytime i boot into recovery it says "fixed root"
any solve for this?????
Did you dirty flash CM10.2 over CM10.1? if so, it might have failed to write the partition completely/correctly. I would suggest to backup everything that you can (adb backup or similar) and then wipe everything then reflash fresh CM10.2.0 + GApps + SuperSU or Koush's Superuser flashable zip.
It is auto loaded when you load flashify. Then u can select wether u want twrp or cw recovery.
Hope this helps someone as twrp. Wifi t520 is not available on twrp site.
+1 confirmed it worked on mine (t520).
Can also be retrieved here if you want to flash via Odin.

I fond myself in a situation where my tablet wouldn't boot and I needed to install a custom recovery, so I had to flash via Odin.
I was just going to post a thread about this. Flashify app is the easiest way I have ever used to install custom recovery!
More details?
All,
I rooted my 10.1 yesterday, since ROMS are starting to come out. I used TWRP and CWM on a Toshiba Thrive prior to own the tab pro.
Anyways...I rooted last night with Odin, but still only have the stock recovery.
Please tell me how to get TWRP installed, without messing up the tablet (it is an expensive device, just want to make sure I don't brick it!)
Just flash the zip from the stock recovery?
Unroot and re-root using flashify or Odin?
I can't wait to get rid of all the Samsung crap!!! (but want to backup first)
Thanks a lot,
Damien
Re twrp for t520 and roms
Wish there was some way to help young 14 year old ik4ver [written first custom rom for our device]...some deadbeat loser keeps sabotaging his account now hijacked to extort a rom for the 12.2!!! I have never seen anything like this...hopefully karma works her magic on this scumbag!
I know right...I fortunately got his v3 rom yesterday before his posts got hacked again.
Tried to flash his rom today and almost bricked the tab, twrp couldn't mount ./system. Got stuck on the Samsung logo after this. Fortunately after 3 tries my twrp backup finally restored properly.
Does anyone know the exact steps to follow in twrp before flashing his rom?
Before not being able to mount system, it was saying can't mount cache, which seems to have resolved itself. Weird...

Yep...I tried again...
So, in order, I...
- Rooted using Odin
- Install TWRP using Flashify (thanks to K8108 for the earlier post)
- Went to recovery
- Went to "Mount" and made sure all was checked
- Went to "Wipe", "Advanced"
- Checked everything except internal and external storage
- Install ik4evr's ROM
- Rebooted...
Tablet booted no problem (it stays on "SAMSUNG" for a little bit, which worried me...)
All Samsung apps are gone!!!
that's awesome thanks for the procedure details!
Actually it was young ik4evr that let me know bout twrp being auto loaded in flashify .. that's why I started thread as it's kinda confusing as twrp site doesn't list t520 wifi only.
Good work!

This all forum is freaking confsuing, as it is about 6 (8?) different devices, where some are kinda similar, and others completely different (thinking especially of Exynos vs Qualcomm).
Plus there is no real guide, and takes hours trying to figure out if this thread/recovery/rom applies to our device or not.
Plus 8.4 became modrian, and 10.1 picasso.
Yay, confusing is the right word!!!
well I've loaded Treo with flashify and done full stock rooted rom
Backup. Now have to grow a pair and flash ver3 of ik4evrs rom! So you have zero issues and everything working?
I was going to wait at least till his thread gets sorted out...hmmm...i voided warranty anyway at this point lol

Zero issue wouldn't the word lol! I did have a bit of a cold sweat yeterday...
I'd say as long as you have the stock rom backup go for it!
I actually started a thread separated from here. I wonder if "wipe internal storage" ok or not...what I can see is that bunch of folders remained from apps installed before flashing the rom.
As far as the steps listed above, I just did it this morning and all went well. As far as deep testing to see if everything is still working, I can't answer yet (at work, no time to play with it).
Let me know if you have any issue...
Ball grown yet?
Alright...so:
- Went to recovery
- Went to "Mount" and made sure all was checked
- Went to "Wipe", "Advanced"
- Checked everything except external storage
- Install ik4evr's ROM
- Rebooted...
Just reflashed the rom, this time wiping the internal storage as well.
After apps update, 472mb used, 11Gb free (was 6gb used before wiping the internal storage).
So far, the only issue is something I read on a post somewhere, but contacts aren't syncing.
I am sure a V4 will be here soon!!
Everything else seems to be working.

I did the same. All worked.
Unfortunately I cannot restore apps succesfully from Titanium backup. The restore seems to be ok, but I only get FC's. The apps will not start. I cannot find the cause of the errors.
Something in directions of maps destination changed? Knox?
I do not understand it.
I had a hard time with TB also. Had to get most of my apps back from the play store. Lost some data. Oh well. My contacts are syncing from Google, tho.

I always reinstall from the play store... I like it clean and fresh, and I don't have that many apps to restore.
Now...How did you get your contacts? I just installed google+, and my circles finally synced in the contact app. As far as all other contacts (gmail), can't sync them...
Sent from my SM-T520 using Tapatalk
I don't know why my contacts are syncing. The only difference I can see is that in our flashing the rom, I didn't do the advanced wiping. I just did factory reset and cache wipe. I left my system unwiped. I'm not real savvy on this stuff - I have just been a good instruction follower for the past few years and have spent lots of hours reading here on XDA. I am heavily addicted to my tablets and use them for several hours a day so I have over 100 apps. It's a real pain for me to have to go thru the play store for a restore
