I'm on ICS UVLE1 and it seems that I am suffering from a power off issue where the magenta T-Mobile box stays on and the phone never really shuts off. It says brightly lit and I have to force it to turn off by pressing the power button for 30 seconds. It just sucks. It happens whenever I want to reboot or power off my phone. It just never really shuts off or restarts.
I still can't seem to fix this problem and I'm just not enjoying my experience on ICS or maybe my Galaxy S2 is one of those bad apples. Sad to say, I guess my expectations were a little to high. :-/
I rooted and installed ICS mms gallery and calendar . I notice this issue you have l but it restart fine just lag on power off so I just hold power down no biggie

I was going to complain about the same.
I've even tried reinstalling, wiping, etc. Also, time zone resets to zero. F'ing annoying.
I'm looking around to see if I find anything.

have you tried formatting your sd card where the photos and downloads are kept? i had the same issue, albeit with the telus rom, and formatting the sd card worked for me.

This issue has been addressed many times. Look for dark side cache wipe. Flash it. Then you should be good to go. It has to do with using cwm to flash roms. Don't use the wipe feature in it, flash either super wipe "everything" or cache wipe from TDJ.

This is a very well known issue. If you are unrooted, do a factory reset. If you are rooted, flash TDJs cache wipe.

Would you happen to have a link for it?

Also, the Dark something super wipe works wonders. Wipe, reinstall ROM, and you're ready to go.
In the Q& A forum, I posted the instructions. In the development section, you can find the Super Wipe.

I was having this exact issue during shutdown and reboots. It went away after flashing TDJ's Darkside.Cache.Wipe.
I had the same issue, just reinstall it and you'll be fine.

I believe that once you've done your first hard reboot on this phone the UI becomes permanently jumpy/choppy/laggy. Anyone?

No lag here after 2 reboots. One of which was pulling the battery after turning the phone off to get the serial number.

Dude, it's different from Factory Data Reset. It doesn't erase affect your setup. Ok. How about a simple reboot - just by holding power button. Can you do that and tell me what happens?

My routine to make it relatively smooth: Power Off / Power on while holding VolUp+Power and waiting for it to vibrate a couple of times / Turn off display animations / Turn off wallpaper scrolling.

When you hard reboot it actually factory resets the data the reason its lagging cause its reinstalling all the Bloatware Tmobile put on it. So you need at least 5-7 minutes.
Ive already done a hard reset on my phone after receiving it and the reason was i had a issue with music on my sd card. I dont see the lag you speak of. If its persistent then get it replaced. I have no issues as of yet with the phone and its running great. My only slight issue is battery but that is most likely due to bloat.

Have done plenty of normal reboots via the power button (power off then power on) and pulling the battery. Mine is still quite a bit more snappy than the Vibrant it replaced.
Can somebody smash their phone for me and let me know if its damaged after? It seems all phones are damaged after they're smashed.

I've smashed mine several times, one of which was even a sledgehammer dropped from a 3-story building right onto the glass. no damage here, it's actually less damaged than my MT4G was fresh out of the box
Sorry, just had to post the other side of things too lol
Okay, so i had the balck galaxy s 2 and it never had this problem, but i just got my white galaxy s 2 and every time i reboot, it freezes, and then comes up saying that power manager has crashed. Then nothing works, so i reboot and it does the same thing. I figured there was something wrong with the system, so i rooted and installed the Dewizzed rom, after 3-4 minutes of using it, it freezes, turns black, and then goes to the lock screen and it lost all conections to t-mobile/wifi. changed the rom to the juggernaut and the same thing happened.
Can anyone help? I don't know why this is happening. Never happened with my balck SGS2
probably just a faulty device dude.... return and get another is what I would do

Did you try factory reset? Wipe all data and cache before you flash a different rom?
I agree with the secobd person that posted an answer but theres another solution to it.... just get into download mode im sure you know how to do that... and use odin and flash back to stock... stock rom... that should fix everything.. thats what i do everytime something goes wrong with my fone...

There were problems on stock too. Plus for some reason, stock had a terrible lag. I gues if it doesnt resolve itself i will have to do another exchange (this is my 4th exchange) hopefully with mwc next month, t-mobile will get a few new phones and i will be able to get a working device . Anyways thanks for the help

Hi all!
A few days ago I rooted my stock T989(ICS) using the galaxys2root method and everything went well. The only issue I ran into though, when I turn off my phone normally (hold power then shutdown), it will get stuck at the pink goodbye screen (as did about 3 others in the comment section of the GS2Root website). When I was unrooted, turning off the device normally, it would hangup a bit at the pink goodbye screen as well, only for about 30 seconds at the most though. In this current state, I've ran this over 5 minutes and it still stays at the pink goodbye screen.
I didn't see this to be too much of an issue since I use notification toggle, which has a a restart and power off toggle that I can access in the notification bar for rooted users. But last night I didn't charge my phone so it was dead when I woke up. The thing is, it was hot. So I'm thinking it got hung up on the pink goodbye screen until the very last drop of battery left. So it just worry's me in the long run if it happens again here and there of affecting the battery. It showed 0% when I plugged in to charge and did take a while to go past that number.
Some background:
-Completely stock rom and kernels (know nothing about flashing/intimidating to do for me as I don't want to ruin anything)-slowly looking into it though
-Only rooted because I wanted to save some game data.
-I've already done factory reset but it didn't fix the issue.
Hopefully any input will help out others with the same problem as well!

Darkside Cache Wipe always fixes my issues. It's said not to use CWM fix permissions or cache wipes. Using the Darkside also aligns your card.

Thanks guys! So DarkSide it is then.
So in order to do this, it's essentially just like rooting, right?
This is how I'm thinking of it based on GS2Root's video:
-Boot into clockwork mod recovery
-Install zip from sd card
-Choose zip from sd card
-Find DarkSide Cache Wipe in where ever folder I put it in (which I finally found the download link and hoping this is the right one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955)
-Choose the zip and apply.
-Done?
Are these the right steps? Or is there anything special after and/or before that I need to do? Don't have to install the DarkSide rom beforehand?
Also, would I ever need to uninstall this for an update? I just read somewhere on my drippler app that t mobile or samsung will provide a future update for bug fixes, but not jelly bean.
That's correct steps then just reboot. It's a script that does what cwm should do plus more. It will wipe both cache partitions then properly fix permissions. It's not installing anything so it won't effect any future updates. Also doesn't matter what Rom your on, it's not specific. Just a fix for cwm not working correctly.

darkside wipe deleted your rom and its data... thats what its designed to do.... do you cant go past the start screen because there is nothing to boot too... reflash your rom or get a different rom.

Did you run the superwipe as you are directed to do? it is a pretty simple process and it will not wipe your ROM.

Superwipe will in fact wipe your ROM. Cache wipe will not wipe your ROM, and will probably help with the reboot hangs.
Superwipe is for before you flash a ROM.
Cache wipe is for problems after an install.

Will wiping the cache kill my personal data?
I had the same problem with koodo 4.0.3 and JMTX. I bet you were using CWM Recovery. For me to resolve this issue, I had to switch to TRWP using the dd method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639673
and reflash the room. After that, all was good.
I don't know much about the exact detail, but I suspect CWM recovery doesn't wipe everything (Hence the Superwipe script was needed, but I had problem with the superwipe script as well), where as TRWP does a proper job. That is to say, with CWM, we were effectively doing a dirty-flashing.
Give TRWP a try and let me know if it resolves the issue for you.

I can't help you, but I'm just letting you know you're not alone. Mine did that a couple of times when I was on some CM 10.1 nightlies. The phone would just shut off. I thought maybe it was just a SOD on black screen, but one time I caught it flash the Samsung logo, and then shut off. I had to press and hold the power button to turn it back on. Strange indeed. I don't know what caused it, but I would like to know. I use my phone as my alarm, and if it would shut off during the night that would not be good for the morning.
You'd get much more input if you were on a Rom on xda.
This is why I won't use a few roms....jellybam, carbon....at least until there is a dev thread on it....and a couple others.
Just my two cents!
