i watched the video when i signed up so i really dont want to spam or anything like that but i am not too sure what exactly my problem is and if there are posts on it so i am going to ask for help.
i rooted my kindle fire and all was going well when i installed CM7 energy and my brother (i am not sure of what eexactly he did) he turned it off or something and then my android wouldnt boot, so i sorted this problem out and got it back to the factory default settings. then i put CM7 energy back onto my KF and now it comes up with the kindle fire logo, then goes into the CM7 energy launching icon and thats as far as it will go. i cannot connect it up to kindle fire utility, it cant see it. i tried giving it the fastboot commands and went through various methords for that. my computer doesnt even see it untill it starts trying to launch CM7 energy. could someone please help me?
Can you get into TWRP Recovery and clear the dalvik cache?
sadly i cant, it seems to have dissapeared when i tried to flash the new Rom
When you turn your Kindle on, what does the boot logo look like?
Should make a list of the ten most common mistakes 1. Should be using a recovery without the understanding of how to access it again.
OK I have an update to this issue. I reinstalled the drivers on my pc manually and now I can see the kindle on the Kf utility. But it can't seem to find any directory when I try any of the options. So if I try and install something it just says cannot find directory
And I never got any warrenty with it because I bought it on my holiday to America

It comes up with the kindle fire logo for a split second and then goes to the Cm7 launch screen with all the multi colour panel looking things turning
is your kindle fire logo come up first white kindle and blue fire? If so push your power button a few times to get a boot menu select recovery this will take you into twrp where you can factory/ data reset wipe cache wipe dalvik wipe system and select the rom you tryed to install swipe to install. might be best to locate this first before doing the wipes just a suggestion. after you flash rom flash gingerbread gapps select reboot then select system boot animation takes a bit be patient should boot to an adroid screen where you can sign into google.
Also if you made a backup you might want to wipe and restore that before moving on instead of reflashing
No white kindle or blue fire you can always try sending fff you must be connected to the internet to do so.

There should be some dialogue about fetching files if not kfu is probably useless to you at this point your drivers in devices manager should say andoid composite adb interface as well.

Yes my drivers are correct so that kf utility can see it, may I ask what for you mean by sending fff? And sadly it is the normal red kindle fire logo

So the KF Utility see your device, then run it to change your bootmode to recovery(5001) then install the newest version of FFF 1.4A.
From there do a factory reset then wipe Dalvik and system cache just as Thepooch stated. Then try re-installing your rom and stuff.
Use KFU to change your bootmode to recovery (5001) and reboot.
Once you're in recovery, use the mount function to mount your sdcard as USB storage and transfer FFF 1.4a to the device. Then use TWRP to install it. With FFF1.4, you can use the power button to easily access recovery and flash a new rom.
It sounds like your brother hit factory reset in TWRP and wiped out the system leaving the device nothing to boot to, hence the black (backlit) screen.
You could use KFU to install FFF, but it is ill advised. A small mistake in flashing a bootloader seriously brick your device to a state that would require pulling the back cover off.

You bought it on your holiday to America? Ok, so I guess that means your British? Sorry if I'm wrong. And you said on your holiday? And when you say holiday, you mean like a vacation. Sorry if I'm wrong, but I looked it up and that's what I found. So you bought it in America? So then I guess you can't return it. BTW Amazon provides a 1 year warranty that you don't have to buy. I'm not really sure what you can do, so I'll leave it to the other guys on this thread to help you out. Sorry.

right i tried to go into the recovery and it told me it couldnt find the directory but the kindle did restart, but never turned on thanks to low battery which im having a little problem with at the moment. i am going to charge it for half an house and turn it back on and try again.
right i have charged it and tried to put it back into recovery, it tells me that it cannot find the drive specified and when it restarts nothing changes its in normal boot
check your drivers again it needs to say android adb composite interface

Your helpers are suggesting you use KFU to switch the bootmode on the Kindle Fire to recovery (5001). If you can do that, the KF will (hopefully) reboot into TWRP the next time you restart the device. If you really want to figure out what's going on with your device, you should try using adb (and fastboot) directly instead of going to KFU to do it. Then you'd have a better chance of seeing what's actually happening.
This seems to be a very common problem where the system software has not booted far enough to accept adb commands and the KF cannot be put into fastboot mode. Your KF just might be in this very situation.
I suggest you take some time to read...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
so you have a better idea of what the posters in this thread are saying.
If you cannot get the device to boot TWRP or enable fastboot mode, you'll want to get a factory cable.
big update to this issue, i couldnt get it to go into recovery. so i just had a quick ponder and tried to flash the origonal rom using kindle fire unbricker, it then sayed a load of stuff whic is typical but then it said changing offset to 0x something and then the kindle screen changed to the kindle fire logo and stayed there. so i then plugged into into kindle fire utility and i was able to put it into recovery. now i have it in recovery i am going to do everything you all have said and really hoping its going to work.
Thank you everyone who has helped! and it seems to be coming to a happy ending
get yourself a bootloader first and be careful what you just did could wipe out your recovery and your newly installed bootloader thats what flashing stock will do. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632375 bootloader here.
But heck if it does boot into stock hopefully a working form of it.
problem solved
right after lots of redoing things, updating things testing roms. i can now say that if any body is stuck with the issue i have (e.g. stuck at the logo) they can open kindle unbricker and start the flash update. it should change there kindle to stay in a kindle fire logo screeen when they turn it off and on. from there they should connect it to there PC and open KF utility and install TWR and the kindle should go into that screen. then once there, factory reset and then it should go back to its normal self (before root) then i recomend downloading the new amazon update 6.3 and installing that. then flashing a new rom because this has worked very well and i am currently on AOKP i think its called, milestone 5 and it is amazing, i recomend it. thank you everyone for helping me, i appreciat everysingle comment and you lot are mirrical works for noobs like me!

I tried the unbricking guide on here but did not work. I could not get fastboot to work.
Here is the exact message I get on the screen:
'Your Kindle has detected a problem and must clear app storage. The recovery process will erase some applications and data from your device. Apps from the appstore are stored in the cloud and can be reinstalled later.
This will reset your kindle to its original factory settings. you will need to re-register your kindle prior to downloading items from your Amazon account.
Please press power button to proceed.'
After i press the power button I get a status bar indicating the restore, it then says success, then reboots and ultimately comes back to the same restore screen as noted above.
Any help is appreciated.
I have the same issue, I had just used one click to gain root access and was changing permissions to instal Vending.apk under /system/apps
A bit more information I've gathered:
* I can run adb push/shell before the Kindle Fire starts the recovery mode.
* BUT when I try to run a adb shell command I get the error
Code:
/system/bin/sh failed permission denied (13)
I've spent the best part of the day trying to find a solution to no avail. I had a good read through this post too.

PLEASE HELP
As soon as i get my factory cable and time I'll make a guide. But really all you need to do is flash the images from the 6.2 update via fastboot
Yeah I got to that point to where it doesn't just go into logo, but infinitely boots you into recovery mode. when you launch adb it even says its recovery mode and all the folders are hidden/missing.
Sigh, I fixed my kindle and got it working again then I broke it again by accidentally changing the entire system folder to chmod 644 haha.
Anyways so far I have found no fix around it so I just returned it and got a new one. live and learn I guess.
What did you do exactly to put it in a boot-loop? I did this once before by tampering with some system files, but i was able to push the regular one's back using adb.
I made a factory cable and managed to get fastboot working to flash over a new system image.
Does anyone have a system.img file for the Kindle Fire?
OR know another way to bring up a shell via fastboot?
I might just wait till next week and see what the status is then on the CM7 ROM.
I really need to get me one of those factory cables :S but they are sold out on black hat at the moment.

I dunno. But I think I may have the same issue. Got brick while doing wallpaper n now my fire stuck at fastboot and window cannot detect n fastboot nv finish the run always in waiting for device. Does this mean the doom for my 3 dar old kindle fire?
finally i solved it!!
IF YOU THINK MODIFYING PERMISSIONS ON /system/app IS WHAT CAUSED YOU TO BOOTLOOP THEN FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

thats what was my problem...it worked for me..after tmp root then this steps..and finally kindle was out of bootloop...thanks!!
I have follow that link, but my kindle now seem to be in fastboot n window detect kindle fire as unknown device. In cmd, device cannot be found, and fastboot rerun say waiting for device but nv work, I try, really wanna resolve the mess I created. I try to read n understand how to resolve but my current issue wasn't mention.
I'm still stuck with a screwed /system partition on the Kindle Fire.
I tried Calvin's instructions on installing CM7. I couldn't adb push the update.zip to the sdcard as my system folder was corrupted. I did manage to flash the Clockwork program via flashing updaterecovery.img
I got excited when adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zip copied over, however following Calvin's instructions for Clockwork gave me a failed to mount /sdcard error. I'm guessing the clockwork mount points are virtual mount points of some kind and not the physical device
Still seeking a system.img for the Kindle Fire. I'll give it a try building one myself I guess.
UPDATE:
This post helped on building a system.img - foiled by remote data too large problem
If a rooted kindle fire user could install mkyaffs2image and grab the system.img file for me I'd be very grateful!
"mkyaffs2image /system/ /sdcard/system.img

I think your likely in the same boat as me - though for another reason. I can't get a shell from adb and have screwed up r/w access to /system files trying to change permissions with File Expert in order to get android market to work. Seems to be one of a couple of common themes. Anyway, as far as I can tell I'm going to have to get (or just make) a factory cable in order to throw it into fastboot so that I can boot from usb. If you'll read this entire thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20017371#post20017371 then you may get a better idea of what you're dealing with. JackpotClavin has so graciously donated his time and skills. You'll have to be patient for complete instructions but I think they'll be forthcoming soon. Me, I'm going to go ahead with the cable as there's not much else I can do without shell methinks. If I get something workable first, I'll post for all.

I have the same problem. I did the same thing you did, right after I did it I realized what I had done I had an epic face palm moment. Ill try to make a factory cable from this http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/146492-how-why-make-your-own-motorola-factory-cable.html -- after I'm in fastboot I have no idea what to do. Looking foward to JackpotClavin's guide. Thanks JackpotClavin!
I came across this and couldn't find a solution to my issue. All issues seem to be different, but in my case I could have my device recognized in the Kindle Fire Utility, and it noted that I was in recovery mode. Trying to change one of the boot modes caused it to just hang at the activation screen.
While it's hanging if you just try to cancel the operation, CTRL+C, it will suddenly decide it wants to work, and then you just tell it not to stop. Then you're back in normal boot mode and business as usual.
Just thought I'd share since this was about the only thing that showed up from a series of google searches involving the words recovery loop, lol.

As b63 linked you, download that utility, and then do this:
-Turn your kindle off by holding the power button down for at most 20 seconds.
-Plug kindle into your computer
-Run the unbrick utility
-Turn kindle on
-Wait for the Caution Sign with the fire logo (firefirefire logo)
-Choose first option on utility (Recovery Loop)
-Wait... (a max of 10 minutes)
This should work, if not, try to turn off your kindle on and off, and then try again.
This should work regardless if your device was found or not. This sounds like the problem I had. I wish you guys the best of luck.

I've looked around the forums and I am not finding instructions on how to unbrick a Kindle Fire that has ClockworkMod installed. I installed ClockworkMod and installed a late ICS build with kernel 3.0 and the Fire is stuck in an infinite boot loop with the Kindle Fire/Android mascot logo.
I can get into ClockworkMod but re-flashing with the CM9 that I have doesn't do anything to fix it.
I know that if I were able to put the stock Kindle firmware on that /sdcard volume I can fix this but how do I do this with ClockworkMod?
I've tried all the unbricking utils (even the Java front-end) and they act like they're fixing things but they all make no changes.
I do have the correct drivers and can send adb commands to fastboot, normal boot, recovery boot, so I'm pretty sure I'm just missing how to unbrick a Kindle that is using ClockworkMod.
Thanks in advance.

When you say "infinite bootloop" do you mean the device turns on, shows the boot logo, then reboots?
If so... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25400963
Also CWM will not work with the latest versions of ICS, you need to flash TWRP.
I recommend people copy both the Kindle standard image as well as the customized image to the /sdcard volume. That way if you're stuck with a bricked Kindle at least you can re-install the original Kindle image and get back to where you were before.
I ordered a factory cable to get it to boot into factory recovery mode, which I know works in all cases.
In the meantime I'm going to attempt to try the steps in that post.
After that I'll try to mount the original Kindle system image from a USB drive (using the USB boot feature of CWM) and then try to install it from there and then go back to TWRP or FireFireFire.
I've successfully used FireFireFire before, but using CWM bricked my Kindle hard. I'll update this thread when it's working again.
Thanks for the info.
Okay, I successfully unbricked it.
It wasn't so much a hard brick or a soft brick but more of a firm bricking.
I went into CWM and told it to mount the USB volume. The 5 gigabyte drive appeared on my computer and I formatted it.
I took the Amazon stock update and changed its file extension to zip.
I then copied it from the computer to the mounted volume.
I chose the zip for installation and then installed it from CWM.
After shutting down and rebooting a few times it worked.
I didn't even have to do any ADB tricks. This is because I had a working CWM boot image.
Now it's off to more hacking!!
I am having the same problem... how did you get into clockwork? it doesnt stay on long enough for me to connect it to the KFU
I did the same thing. You'll need to go into CWM and mount it as usb storage and then it will show up on your desktop as a disk drive. Format it from there to wipe out the crap that's hanging it up and then reinstall either your rom or stock amazon rom.

I am int he same boat. How did you or can I get into Clockwork
I'm not very knowledgeable about CWM but I do have an idea. Try turning off kindle by holding down power button, plug kindle in to computer and turn it on. Open KFU, if it says that adb is online, then you have your fix. Just set the boot mode to recovery and you should boot right in to cwm.
Has anyone else experienced this problem:
I rooted my Kindle Fire using KFU 0.9.5. it came stock with kindle 6.3 software. The rooting process was a cinch, and I installed GO Launcher EX and the Google Play store and many other applications that work great. I haven't installed anything in the past few days. It's been working fine since I rooted about 3 weeks ago. Now, all of a sudden, I go to open my fire and there's an android guy with an "!" Icon. I reboot. Get the yellow splash screen, and it goes to rebooting options. I select normal reboot. Goes to yellow screen, Goes to Kindle fire splash screen, goes to lock screen. I unlock with my PW and the device immediately turns off. So I try again, this time using recovery. Same scenario. Third time I chose fastboot. Now it sticks on the yellow triangle screen and does nothing. How do I get it to boot up? Please help.
Thank you,
Kyle.
There was a new update from Amazon causing problems. You can flash a different rom or get the new update from the Amazon website and flash it, which will make everything 100% stock again without root.

Ok. I got it to boot into recovery mode. when I go to reboot system now, it goes to the yellow triangle splash, then kindle fire splash (orange fire lettering, not blue), then it brightens up, and goes to the lock screen. then immediately powers off. reboots into the yellow triangle splash, then an android robot with a loading bar that fills about 25%, to a mini android robot with an orange ! triangle.
If I have to flash a new ROM, which would you suggest?
Thank you,
Kyle.
Also, in the CWM recovery, there's a factory data reset. Will that undo the root? Or will it just wipe the memory?
???
Please advise. Currently my Kindle is stuck and I'd like to have it operational again. Even if that means re-rooting it. Does CWM Factory Reset wipe the root or just delete the memory on the device. Is that even the correct route to go? Is there an easier way to get out of this boot loop? KFU won't recognize the device because it won't power up all the way.
Thank you.
Factory reset will only wipe your user data.
To break root and restore to factory original you have to flash the latest update from Amazon.
Google "Kindle Fire software update", it will be on the Amazon website.
Change the file extension from ".bin" to ".zip" and put it on your sdcard.
Flash the new update.zip in CWM

Soupmag, Sorry it took so long to reply; I had to pick my kid up from his mom's after work, and feed, bathe, and bed him, which is exhausting. I was at work earlier.
I can boot the device into recovery mode. The screen looks like this:
CWM-based Recovery v5. 0. 2 .7 FULL (By DooMLoRD)
Amazon Kindle Fire: v01-FINAL: Touch ed. by TUTRCHAOS
-reboot options
-Install zip from sdcard
-apply /sdcard/update.zip
-Wipe cache
-Backup and Rest.
-Mount & Strg
-advanced
-Power off
-Go Back
Build info...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how to get a new .zip on the /sdcard. The PC doesn't see the device, so I can't transfer. It won't boot normally from this (reboot options are norm., fast, recov.) so I'm left with trying to reinstall the .zip, but I don't know if I need to wipe b4 I try that. Or, factory reset and hope it starts in Kindle launcher. What happens next. Sorry this is so long. I just don't want to screw it up even worse or possibly brick it.
Thanks for your help and patience.

For some reason, the update will not install with CWM. I found that if you install TWRP, the update will install. I have used the commands on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568340 to successfully install TWRP and then the update installs. After that, you will have to re-root.
When it says in those instructions:
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
is that a command prompt window in the kindle dir? Or a KFU Option?
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
Something completely different?
Please elaborate.
Thank you.
-Kyle
There's no need to reroot. I assume you're using Windows, right? Fix your drivers so you can use adb to push a new rom to your sdcard OR mount your sdcard in TWRP and transfer it like that.
Ok Awesome. Soupmag, awesome. I don't want to un-root. How do I update my Drivers? I had the adb drivers working fine yesterday. I didn't change anything. I'm using the KindleADB drivers and when it worked. I plugged it into the PC (windows vista) it would show under ADB devices on device manager.
Thank you,
Kyle

USB plugged in of course
Edit: When I shut the device down the Android Phone>Android Composite ADB Interface is removed from devices in device manager, so it has to be seeing the device, right?

When it says in those instructions:
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
is that a command prompt window in the kindle dir? Or a KFU Option?
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
Something completely different?
Please elaborate.
Thank you.

Command prompt window... from the directory where you unzip the files. Honestly, I don't really know if all the steps are required. All I know is that the process has worked for me.

While in recovery, select "mount sdcard". It should show up on your computer as external storage. Then use your computer to download whatever rom you want and transfer it to your sdcard. Just make sure its in .zip format.

Duplicate post, deleted. Stupid XDA app.

Awesome! Do you recommend any particular ROM for stability? I don't want to have to do this every month lol
Thanks again

i was curious to get get android market on my kindle today.. and looked up how. i used the kindle fire utility to root it. then my KF it started to go into a loop of the boot logo. it just flashes on and flashes off over and over again.hard reset doesnt affect it at all, it wont even turn off unless i unplug it. it doesnt show up on my computer either.
i dont know if this helps but when i ran the Kf utility it said 'findstr' not recognized.. blah blah blah. and it didnt give me the 1234567 options on there. i just typed in '2' and pressed enter because thats what the video told me .-. it doesnt have a triangle, or a blue screen logo either just the kindle fire logo flashing off and on. I honestly am lost. please keep this noob friendly
i am running win 7. 64 bit.

It seems like your stuck in fastboot mode. You need to reinstall the drivers manually and then go into KFU. Press 1(bootmode)and 1(normal). If you still want to root it, when it gets to installing fff, and if it says <waiting for device>, you need to do a hard reset and your Kindle, unplug, plug it back in, and manually install the drivers. Then it will finish rooting.

How do you reinstall the drivers manually? and also when i go into the kindle fire utility it doesnt give me 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 options... it just says findstr is not a recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. and another thing i tried another utility on here and it said it said my device was not found when i plugged it in , is it because it turns off every 5 seconds?
First before you mess with your drivers shift+ right click on the tools folder in kfu select open command window here power your device off completely leave it unplugged type fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product when it says waiting for device plug in your powered off kindle it should then power on in fastboot mode if you get the response product: kindle then type fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000 it will say okay hopefully the type fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot it should then reboot in normal mode
Edit: hit enter after each command

Sounds like there's some sort of PATH problem with your setup, which is why KFU won't work properly. You'll have to manually use ADB/fastboot commands if you want to get things done.
About it turning off constantly, it's probably out of battery. Use the stock wall charger (it provides a greater power output, don't bother with USB or a random clone) so it can refill some. The bootloops may be due to a bad boot mode, but it's a bit hard to pinpont with your description of the issue.
You may want to have a read here, it'll help you to better understand what's going on and how to express yourself about the problems you are experiencing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547

You might have corrupt drivers. Here's how to reinstall them:
Try going to your Control Panel >> Device Manager. If you see an entry for "Android Phone," (Android ADB interface) delete it (and any associations with Portable Devices >> KF or Kindle Fire).
Restart computer.
Then go to your KFU utility folder, open "install_drivers.bat" (right-click "Run Administrator"). This shouldn't take long at all.
You might want to restart here too after.
Then open KFU utility, plug in Kindle - if all went well here, you should read something along the lines of "Online" and "4000".
I am a similar situation
Hi Guys,
I rooted my KF with no issues, was able to copy the Jellybean and Gapp zip file to the SD and thought I flashed with no issues. Then rebooted. Now the KF is stuck in a boot loop. If I boot to recovery, that works and allows me the recovery options. if I boot up to normal, it constantly reboots, if I boot to fastboot, it displays the Kindle Fire logo and says "press power button to boot menu" at the bottom and does nothing else. My computer recognizes it as Android ADB interface but will not allow to access the SD ram. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It's usually better to start your own thread here on Q&A.
Are you able to access the SD Card from TWRP? (Mount USB)
If so and the ROM is still in there, wipe cache, dalvik-cache, factory reset and system, then flash/install the ROM again (don't install gapps yet) and reboot. If it boots all the way to the desktop, reboot to recovery and install gapps.
You may also want to check the ROM's hash.
You haven't mentioned what versions of TWRP and FFF do you have, either. Hopefully 2.1.1 or 2.2 for TWRP and 1.4a (blue "fire" on the kindle fire logo) for FFF.

Thanks for the info and sorry for the incomplete initial info. I will check this as soon as I get home and can work on it again.
Thanks for your help. It turns out that I didnt even have TWRP installed. Thats fixed. I was able to get roms installed and have different problems. (Will start a new thread in another area) Thank you very much for your help.
I used the Kindle FIre Utility that was stickied to install ClockworkMod. Unfortunately, the utility gives an error message when I attempted to root or install FFF or really do anything else. However, I was able to boot into CWM using the utility. I remember from my experience with ROMs on the Samsung Captivate (AT&T) that installing new ROMs would overwrite things like being unrooted or even recovery mode itself. So I downloaded the zip of Alien Droid and flashed it using ClockworkMod. I wiped data and cache and dalvik cache. I then rebooted the device to find it bootlooping on the Alien Droid logo. So I plug it back into the computer, the computer recognizes the ADB interface as "Android." However, Kindle Fire Utility does not recognize the device anymore since it is not known as "kindle" or at least that's what I seemed to gather. So It's stuck bootlooping for now and I'm not sure how to get it out of the boot loop or how to get back to stock. Anybody have any pointers?

The version that came with the Kindle Fire Utility I linked above. I'm not sure what number it is, but it allowed for touch functions and was black with red text.
The only version that comes to kfu anymore is sbloods but I only know it to be gb and ics safe don't know about jelly bean
---------- Post added at 09:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 PM ----------
Also you should have included a factory reset and system wipe to you scheme of wipes all you have is a broken system very likely...
I would say install twrp manually in fastboot (temporary or otherwise)

I did do a factory reset. I accidentally mentioned in the post that I wiped data, but what I meant was factory reset. The kindle still shows up in the computer when I plug it in, so I feel like there is some hope.
Did you create a backup?

No, but how would I use a backup anyway while bootlooping?
EDIT: could I use a backup from another kindle fire using this method?
My thought was to get back into recovery and restore your backup but that's not possible without fff
A backup from another kindle if it was created in cwmr yes I believe this is possible...

Even while bootlooping, you should still be able to issue adb commands, check your drivers. Also, the Alien Droid animation takes a really long time the first time around. How long did you let it sit before shutting it off?

If your bootlooping but still get adb acces before it reboots, you should try the steps in this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30098800&postcount=7
Then flash whatever rom or erase cache/dalvik-cache/userdata.

This is true. Although I don't know much about how to operate adb, I do have it installed. I waited an hour or two, the animation stops at some point and freezes but the usb connection still works.

I don't currently have TWRP installed on the kindle, just clockworkmod. I will try to install TWRP from adb and see what I can do.
EDIT: While my computer detects the kindle as an "Android ADB Interface" when I type "adb devices" into cmd nothing shows when the kindle is plugged in (but my phone shows when it's plugged in with USB debugging enabled, so I know I have it installed properly at least). I think the proper drivers are not installed.
EDIT 2: I uninstalled the driver for it to install the google usb driver but it failed to install the new one. Now when I plug the Kindle in it shows up as an empty Removable device in Computer butt does not show up anywhere else.

"Android ADB Interface" usually appears in the device manager when the KF is in fastboot mode, but if you are seeing the boot animation from the ROM, it cannot be in fastboot mode. I'm not sure where your KF is in the boot process, so it's important to figure that out first. Take a look at this fastboot guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668159
and it sounds like your device drivers are going to need some help as well...

I installed the drivers and now the Kindle is detected by adb when I type adb devices. ADB tells me it is in normal boot mode (4000). However, I cannot switch to ffastboot. It tells me it cannot find the drive specified and that permission is denied.
FFF, assuming you installed it, goes into temporary fastboot for the first few seconds the the bootloader is running. Use that time to do what you need to do in fastboot. When the device detects you are trying to do something in fastboot during this time, it will stop the countdown and stay in fastboot.
