[Q] i am stuck in a dark place with my kindle fire

i watched the video when i signed up so i really dont want to spam or anything like that but i am not too sure what exactly my problem is and if there are posts on it so i am going to ask for help.
i rooted my kindle fire and all was going well when i installed CM7 energy and my brother (i am not sure of what eexactly he did) he turned it off or something and then my android wouldnt boot, so i sorted this problem out and got it back to the factory default settings. then i put CM7 energy back onto my KF and now it comes up with the kindle fire logo, then goes into the CM7 energy launching icon and thats as far as it will go. i cannot connect it up to kindle fire utility, it cant see it. i tried giving it the fastboot commands and went through various methords for that. my computer doesnt even see it untill it starts trying to launch CM7 energy. could someone please help me?

Can you get into TWRP Recovery and clear the dalvik cache?

sadly i cant, it seems to have dissapeared when i tried to flash the new Rom

OK I have an update to this issue. I reinstalled the drivers on my pc manually and now I can see the kindle on the Kf utility. But it can't seem to find any directory when I try any of the options. So if I try and install something it just says cannot find directory
And I never got any warrenty with it because I bought it on my holiday to America

It comes up with the kindle fire logo for a split second and then goes to the Cm7 launch screen with all the multi colour panel looking things turning

is your kindle fire logo come up first white kindle and blue fire? If so push your power button a few times to get a boot menu select recovery this will take you into twrp where you can factory/ data reset wipe cache wipe dalvik wipe system and select the rom you tryed to install swipe to install. might be best to locate this first before doing the wipes just a suggestion. after you flash rom flash gingerbread gapps select reboot then select system boot animation takes a bit be patient should boot to an adroid screen where you can sign into google.
Also if you made a backup you might want to wipe and restore that before moving on instead of reflashing
No white kindle or blue fire you can always try sending fff you must be connected to the internet to do so.

Yes my drivers are correct so that kf utility can see it, may I ask what for you mean by sending fff? And sadly it is the normal red kindle fire logo

So the KF Utility see your device, then run it to change your bootmode to recovery(5001) then install the newest version of FFF 1.4A.
From there do a factory reset then wipe Dalvik and system cache just as Thepooch stated. Then try re-installing your rom and stuff.

Use KFU to change your bootmode to recovery (5001) and reboot.
Once you're in recovery, use the mount function to mount your sdcard as USB storage and transfer FFF 1.4a to the device. Then use TWRP to install it. With FFF1.4, you can use the power button to easily access recovery and flash a new rom.
It sounds like your brother hit factory reset in TWRP and wiped out the system leaving the device nothing to boot to, hence the black (backlit) screen.
You could use KFU to install FFF, but it is ill advised. A small mistake in flashing a bootloader seriously brick your device to a state that would require pulling the back cover off.

right i tried to go into the recovery and it told me it couldnt find the directory but the kindle did restart, but never turned on thanks to low battery which im having a little problem with at the moment. i am going to charge it for half an house and turn it back on and try again.

right i have charged it and tried to put it back into recovery, it tells me that it cannot find the drive specified and when it restarts nothing changes its in normal boot

check your drivers again it needs to say android adb composite interface

Your helpers are suggesting you use KFU to switch the bootmode on the Kindle Fire to recovery (5001). If you can do that, the KF will (hopefully) reboot into TWRP the next time you restart the device. If you really want to figure out what's going on with your device, you should try using adb (and fastboot) directly instead of going to KFU to do it. Then you'd have a better chance of seeing what's actually happening.
This seems to be a very common problem where the system software has not booted far enough to accept adb commands and the KF cannot be put into fastboot mode. Your KF just might be in this very situation.

If you cannot get the device to boot TWRP or enable fastboot mode, you'll want to get a factory cable.

big update to this issue, i couldnt get it to go into recovery. so i just had a quick ponder and tried to flash the origonal rom using kindle fire unbricker, it then sayed a load of stuff whic is typical but then it said changing offset to 0x something and then the kindle screen changed to the kindle fire logo and stayed there. so i then plugged into into kindle fire utility and i was able to put it into recovery. now i have it in recovery i am going to do everything you all have said and really hoping its going to work.

get yourself a bootloader first and be careful what you just did could wipe out your recovery and your newly installed bootloader thats what flashing stock will do. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632375 bootloader here.
But heck if it does boot into stock hopefully a working form of it.

problem solved
right after lots of redoing things, updating things testing roms. i can now say that if any body is stuck with the issue i have (e.g. stuck at the logo) they can open kindle unbricker and start the flash update. it should change there kindle to stay in a kindle fire logo screeen when they turn it off and on. from there they should connect it to there PC and open KF utility and install TWR and the kindle should go into that screen. then once there, factory reset and then it should go back to its normal self (before root) then i recomend downloading the new amazon update 6.3 and installing that. then flashing a new rom because this has worked very well and i am currently on AOKP i think its called, milestone 5 and it is amazing, i recomend it. thank you everyone for helping me, i appreciat everysingle comment and you lot are mirrical works for noobs like me!

[Q] Kindle flashing and factory software

Hi everyone, I have two kindle fire, I messed with both of them.
I've root them the first one has the problem with the yellow triangle logo stucked. And the other one I've tried to reset it to the factory settings and everything was cool until I hit the TWRP utility and I think I erased everything.
I've see tons of posts regarding rooting and troubleshooting related to rooting and i'm pretty sick of rooting, I think that 3 months is sufficient time, please DON'T POST anything related to rooting.
I'm here asking if anyone knows how to flash all the data ofthe kindle from the pc and been able to install the factory software, firmware (I don't know) from scratch from my pc. Anyone, please?

The first one is probably stuck in fastboot. Try giving it a go with "fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000 && fastboot reboot".
For the second one, "I think I erased everything" is as descriptive as not wanting people to post about your procedure is helpful. What exactly is going on with it? For future reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644970
You should also update both FFF and TWRP on both devices once they are working normally.

If i may suggest flashing modaco first after a good wipe everything except your sdcard I believe this will make a smoother transition if you desire to return to stock before returning to stock always do a good wioe to remove remnants of previous roms download the latest stock bin and rename it to update.zip do not place it in any folder just at the root of your sdcard flash in twrp this will also wipe out twrp and fff I really dont recommend doing this lots of people fail at doing the procedure correcty modaco is stock with only the market added try this approach first then you can retain fff and twrp for custom backups.

Ok, so, I've been investigating and what I'm really looking is to erase ABSOLUTELY everything from the kindle sdcard, system, etc, everything. And I'm looking for a method to sideload from the pc the orginal stock ROM of Kindle Fire. Any clues, directions? Any fully functional software?
I really, don't want to try the adb commands (I've tried them before), nor follow any tutorial about root troubleshooting.
I'm really sick of them and of all that mal-functioning software that you have to download(Eg. Not-responding superOneClick, kindleFireUnbrickUtility saying in one line <No device found> <Processing something> <Congrats, your kindle is good to go! (When it's not)>, Eternal loading Android Commander)

Read from "Reverting to stock software". You can manually rename the file and then copy it into the KF instead of using ADB for it, just make sure the extension is .zip and not .zip.bin (Windows hides extensions per default settings).

To restore back to full factory
1. Download Kindle Fire Software Update Version 6.3.1
2. Rename the file to update.zip
3. Get in to TWRP and mount USB drive
4. Copy update.zip to Kindle Fire
5. Unmount USB drive
6. Do factory reset, then wipe system cache, and dalvik cache
7. Flash the update.zip
8. Let it bootloop about 3 times or so...
If you want FFF and TWRP then flash Stock 6.3.1 Basic from TWRP. This has no root or gapps.

When trying to execute the adb shell commands all I get is:
- exec 'system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
I've also tried, fastboot update | flash | boot | flash:raw
This is with one kindle, with the other one, I can't even get the PC to recognized it as a USB
Is there any tool, that really erases everything and take the stock ROM to be installed again? Software, script?

Ahh, that's a bother. It's a pretty annoying error. Could be something messed with your TWRP (I'm assuming you tried the commands from there).
There isn't one, but there's really no need for it... you just rename the ROM to update.zip, wipe cache, dalvik-cache and factory reset, and install update.zip. If you just want to flash stock because you like it better for whatever reason, you could also just look at the MoDaCo custom ROM instead, as it is stock based.
As for the other KF... you can't get it recognized, from where? The ROM? TWRP? Fastboot?

Both of the kindles, are damaged. I can't access them. I just can access one by USB.

For future reference:
This user's issues have been partially dealt with.
The first KF will require a factory cable to be fixed.
The second KF was soft bricked (there were a few corrupt partitions) after a bad flash attempt of the stock ROM. Luckily, FFF was still installed, but the Windows fastboot drivers weren't. Reinstalled FFF+TWRP from Firekit, and then fixed the partitions, wiped and flashed the stock ROM.

I have another question, the kindle is pratically empty no system, no sdcard memory, probably corrupted ¿How do I use the factory cable, to format the Kindle and install the Stock ROM again?

With the KF off and unplugged, type "fastboot getvar product" on a shell (KFU/tools).
Then plug in the KF using the factory cable. If you get anything listed or returned, it should be working fine. Otherwise, if you wait a few seconds and still nothing, you'll have to check the drivers to make sure the correct fastboot ones are installed.
To check the partitions, you can just "fastboot boot twrp.img" to load a TWRP into memory, and then "adb shell parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 p" to print all partitions' information.

Well, I'm at my job now. So I will try this at home, but the shell is not working since system/sh (shell) it's not in the Kindle. I was trying to boot it yesterday with "fastboot boot twrp.img" and nothing. I also tried: "fastboot getvar product" and nothing but I only used the console. Anyway, let's see what happens...

Quick question, I've read that the factory cable puts the Kindle straight into bootmode, ¿So the color of the power button, has something to do with it? ¿I mean how do I know the kindle has entered factory mode? ¿The orange light is an indicator? (With a standard USB Cable I only get the green light with the power button, with the factory cable I first get green light, then orange light)
I've also read that if I can see the Kindle fire logo, the bootloader is Ok. Hence my Kindle is OK, but I can't enter fastboot mode. ¿Can anyone confirm this?

It'll get stuck in the bootloader screen, and fastboot commands should work as well, provided the drivers are properly installed and working.

OK, I've finally made myself a working factory cable. And in the device manger I can see the kindle listed as "Android phone" and in that root it says "Android ADB Interface". Look like drivers are not working. Where can I download them?

Those are the proper drivers for fastboot you should be able to use kfu to send twrp and fff to the device if that doesn't work you will need to fastboot flash them

All I get is < waiting for device>. Looks like the drivers are not installed.

Simply hold the power button down while connected when it says waiting then power it back on and it should send also try unplug replug when it says waiting

Really messed up my Kindle Fire

I was having issues with Jandycane and decided to try to go back to stock, during this I stupidly wiped the sd card and got stuck. At first I tried to install the stock as the directions said and when it gave the error that was supposed to be given from the instructions I was reading I went to reboot my kindle and instead of the blue first boot logo that I expected it went back to the stock boot logo and stayed there.
As of now I am still stuck at my kindle being at the kindle fire boot screen and will do nothing past that. I have tried the Kindle Unbrick utility but always getting the error "exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2)" meaning I can't use the shell at all. I have tried pushing a sh file to my kindle but then get an error about it being a read only file system. I then tried to remount to get change it from being read only, but get an error "remount failed: Operation not permitted". I have tried numerous other ways to past few hours but I haven't made any progress so now I am asking for help.
If anyone has any idea what to do I would really appreciate what your ideas are to try and fix my kindle.

I have the same exact problem.

The short answer is you need to get the device into fastboot mode by using a factory cable or opening up the back of the case.
Once you've done that, you can probably use fastboot to erase the userdata partition... this is similar to a factory reset in TWRP, which you should have done before flashing back to the stock system software. If that doesn't work, you'll have to flash the TWRP recovery back onto your device so you can reflash the stock system software.

Thanks for the help, it looks like my only option after reading all 3 of those pages is either getting a factory cable or opening the case, so I ordered a factory cable.

The factory cable will definitely work? I don't wanna shell out 25 bucks just for it not to work.

I am not sure, but at this point my options are either getting the cable or opening my kindle up which I don't feel comfortable about so that will be my very last option.

There are no guarantees. Given the conditions stated by the OP, the device will have to be put into fastboot mode somehow to get it booting again. If you don't want to use a factory cable, you can open up the case, short a pad on the motherboard and jump through some hoops to get the bootloader to enable fastboot mode. Most people tend to shy away from opening up the case, so they usually opt to buy a factory cable.
You can purchase a factory cable from an XDA member for a lot less than $25...

Went right into twrp after the reboot and got stock os back onto it. Definitely going to be more careful now with what I'm doing but more than anything I'm just glad I got my kindle back

I tried to take the crappy amazon software that only works in the US off this kindle fire, Installed JandyKane and Gapps with no problems (i cleared dalvik cache, regular cache, and factory reset) Also installed Clockwork Recovery (which i read somewhere that might have been the problem).
(note: I used the KF utility)
Now when i turn the device on, it shows the Kindle fire logo for a second or two, then a bunch of triangles float on the screen forever and nothing happens.
Ive tried a few unbrick utilities but it keeps saying it cant find the device. Im having troubles booting into recovery mode. (the utility says device not found)
This isnt even my Kindle Fire and its causing me so many problems >.>

Is this what you're refering to when you say you see floating triangles?

If so, That is the jandycane/Jellybean Boot animation. On first boot that could take a few minutes before it finishes. It does, however, sound like you are having other problems... have you tried contacting the kindle using fastboot?
Also, I would highly suggest flashing TWRP (team win recovery project) rather than CWM on the Kindle Fire, on most devices I would recommend CWM but on this one it doesn't work as well and leads to problems >>
I also assume that you flashed firefirefire because you said you saw the kindlefire logo before it went to the triangles so you should be fine on that front.

EDIT: Yep, after letting the animation run for 10 minutes still nothing.
Im going to try using TWRP now. Il let you know if it helped.
EDIT2: Nope im getting random errors in the command prompt. Is it 100% necessary to use this program?

If you're talking about KFU, then no. It is not 100% necessary, It is just designed to make it easier for users so they don't have to use command prompt on their own. I am uploading KindleADB from the burrito root method to help us with what you need to do. I will post a link here when it is finished uploading. Do you know how to use command prompt/adb at all?

download this file and unzip and then place it on the root directory of your C:/ Drive (this is not completely necessary, it is just for convenience)
Then try seeing if your device shows up in adb by typing in:

Either way you want it to show either a series of numbers or say something like amazon kindle or something to that degree, if it is blank or does not leave the <waiting for device> status then we will need to go in another direction. My suggestion for fastboot would be to turn the kindle completely off and then do those commands and then plug in your kindle when it says <waiting for device>... get back to me on your results and we can go from there

Did both of them. On the first part it says
List of Devices attached: (nothing shows up)
second time i did exactly what you said. it was waiting for device before i turned the kindle on, nothing happened.
EDIT: Okay I tried using the utility again, whenever i try to fastboot or boot into recovery it gives me this error

I'm having the same issue here.
The triangles keep turning and nothing happens.
In the KFU the devices keep showing OFFLINE and Boot Status UNKNOW.
The cd /

don't show the device and

fastboot getvar product
show waiting for device

I dunno what i've done, but im KFU appears Online in normal boot (4000), but the options don't work anymore.

As long as you have CWM instead of TWRP, you're just wasting your time trying to install Jelly Bean. Install TWRP and try again.

I have the same exact problem with my fire, it happened two days ago but i hadn't seen anyone else with the problem. I couldn't fix it so i ordered a factory cable on ebay, I'm waiting on that now...

no fff? how about just booting to recovery and flashing a new rom after a full wipe or restoring a backup or have the normal ways of doing things just become obsolete lol I mean so you cant flash isc or jelly bean mount your sd card in recovery transfer one of a few different cm7 roms which will flash right on cwmr and your golden ...

I'm trying to but, but when I try to enter in recovery mode, i get this:
The system cannot find the drive specified.
Failed to Copy 'files\rcmode' to 'data/local/rcmode' : permission denied
unable do chmode /data/local/rcmode: no such file or directory
/system/bin/sh: data/local/rcmode: not found

i'm seeing that too when i try to change it to recovery on KFU, but now its actually showing adb online and boot status 4000 as oppposed to when it said offline and unknown for me

What are all the ways to boot into recovery mode? It wont do it with the KFU.
I understand what I need to do now, Factory reset, then install TWRP, then firefirefire, then flash the rom and Gapps?
How am i supposed to do this if i cant get into recovery mode?

First I would try using the kindle unbrick utility:
I couldn't find the thread for this so I just have it uploaded to my mediafire account: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?6kxjs8kbmgn8h3l
I also found this Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility, it might actually be a newer version of the one I provided above with a Graphic UI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428428
If that doesn't work I would suggest trying a linux environment to contact your device, as Android is linux based and therefore can communicate with a linux machine better than a windows machine. (plus drivers are always a giant mess in windows)

If all else fails, you're probably going to need a factory cable to get your Kindle back up and running:

Cant mount SD card on kindle fire.

So I was messing with my kindle and it was trying to upgrade it to jelly bean and i guess i missed one of the steps and bricked it. I was going through the process of unbricking but when i was trying to do extract the update.zip folder it would not allow me to because it could not mount the SD card. All i need to figure out how to do is get the SD slot mounted. I am slowly picking up on command prompt and still trying to figure out adb shell but that is all i need help with.
I can unbrick it if someone knows how i can get my kindle to mount back to my computer!
Any advice or step by step for it would be very helpful, Thanks guys

I can only get to CWM. It does nothing but boot loop and does not go any farther then that. I can plug it into the computer and get the drivers connected and KFU can recognize it. when i put it in cwm this is the first thing i see

Forgive my redundancy but please describe the "boot loop". Does it just sit at the Kindle Fire logo? Does the Kindle Fire logo flash, or change brightness? Does it make it to the boot animation? Black screen?

It will go to the kindle fire logo and then it would go to a black screen. It makes no boot animation. It will change some brightness. The words kindle fire are in white and blue. It flashes where is needs to do the boot animation and then just goes to a black screen

The image shows a very low battery. The behavior you describe suggests a low battery. You're in a boot loop caused by no power.
Let it sit for several hours (better...over night).
Edit:...ie. let it sit with your charger attached.....

It might be a good idea to consider installing TWRP rather than using CWM. CWM is known to have problems with some newer ROMs.

I have tried to install it from KFU but it is always has a problem doing so. I let it charge over night and it is still doing the same thing. Here is what is says when i try to install twrp

Replace the TWRP.img that comes with KFU, with the ACTUAL one from the TWRP website.

Ok i did that but it still will not let me connect the kindle to the computer it keeps giving me sdcard errors. any idea how to fix the sd card issue?

Had the same problem with mine when I used TWRP to format my SD card..but was able to solve it..
What I did was a very simple thing..got the kindle recognised as a drive..used windows partition manager to format it
It worked.. I tx the stock and installed it

I had the same problem before and only had to reboot the kindle.

Nothing is working. i have given up all hope. Like this is crazy. It is screwed up for good. I cant get it to mount. If anyone wants to take a shot at it just shoot me a pm with an address and we can discuss something about trying to fix it or what the hell i did to it. Its crazy! and really messed up.

I have an Idea. If you have fastboot working on your computer. You could try flashing a rom from your computer by typing
fastboot -w(wipes device)
fastboot update <path to rom> (flashes rom)
If it works, you can then fix the sdcard easier with adb/shell/partition manager. Its worth a shot.
I also found this on a website
ROM update without SDcard
If you don't have an sd card, or your slot is broken you can try this trick, but you will need a custom recovery like Clockwork.
Boot up your phone to recovery. And move your rom file to the adb directory, and start a command line ( cmd )
adb shell
mount data
adb push D:\custom_rom.zip /data/
Wait until the push finised, and restart your device to recovery again with "adb reboot-bootloader"
mount data
mount /data /sdcard ( mount the data folder into your sdcard folder, so your recovery will think that you have an sdcard installed )
Locate the ROM .Zip file you wish to flash.
Confirm the flash by following the on-screen instructions (ie: pressing the trackball, pressing the call button, etc.)
If no errors arise during the flashing process then the ROM flash was successful, Reboot the device.
With some root file explorer, remove the rom file if you don't need it anymore, to free up space.
Or use adb to remove the custom recovery
adb shell rm data/custom_rom.zip

I will give it a shot. Only thing is i dont think there is even any software on here. when i try to get it into fastboot mode here is what it says.

Then you need a factory cable to get into fastboot.

When you see the error message:
Code:
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2)
It means you don't have access to the shell in order to switch bootmodes and access recovery, which is needed to fix this type of problem. The only way to change bootmodes without access to the shell, is in fastboot. Unfortunately, you need access to the shell to change the bootmode to fastboot as well...catch-22.
For this, you need a factory cable. The factory cable will tell the device to boot into fastboot without the need for a shell. Even with a factory cable, and access to recovery, you'll still likely need to either reformat, or repartition your sdcard in order to get it to mount.

You are right..
But i too was had the same msg when i was trying to fastboot it.. but then it worked.. I had formatted it and then tx the stock rom and flashed it..

Can't mount SD card on kindle fire
I was in a similar situation and after reading the various forums i came across this action "hold down the power button until the kindle goes off and continue to hold for about 30 seconds I believe this resets the kindle and then tick debugging and mount usb storage the sdcard will open on your pc" and then you can go from there. Worked for me so good luck.
