Any archos devs up to team up for custom ROM? - Gen9, Gen10 General

Like the title say i want to bring live into.the archos gen9 section, im an hobby dev with some spare time, so if somebody wants to team up with me, maybe we can make an aokp, miui or heavily moddes ROM to bring it back to live again, its an highly underestimated device, so PM me! Im builded for one x and sensation btw.

Couple of thoughts:
- we don't have a 'standard' recovery (letama's CWM is still not public) and big enough partition for system- /mnt/system is 200MB (or 300 for newer models)
- there is quite some Archos proprietary stuff, I didn't check what is the exact use of it (I guess it is at least for video player, maybe also for abcbox and other binaries)
- current kernel is still not perfect (my Gen9 is much hotter then on 3.2.80, also there are apparently memory management problems)
I can help when I'll have some free time but please don't expect miracles (I'm an advanced modder at best with some compilation knowledge)

Not only recovery is the problem- HDD models don't have SD slot so there will be a problem with file transfers (HDD operates as MTP/PTP device, not mass storage)

No, data and system are in internal flash (2GB total). HDD is used only as storage- SD card from system point of view

CMW is designed to use SD card (/dev/mmcblk*p1 or /dev/mmcblk*p1, vfat) and to mount it for PC as USB storage but maybe it can be tricked to use /dev/sda* instead and adb push should work for file transfers (USB mass storage won't work for windoze PCs- majority of users)- there has to be a way to copy files to the device with damaged system
Anyway what we really need is a big enough partition for system (not modified Honeycomb system uses ~330MB, I didn't check ICS- ask suduru_petru). Question is if we want to be able to flash official .aos files- this requires ~190MB free space on /mnt/system (for androidmergerd.squashfs.secure system image) otherwise full system reformat must be done

Even if we do get cwm, won't we still be booting more than one OS?

Yes, it's possible. Letama used fbmenu for launching CWM/Android, there should be no problem adding another boot options to it (but I don't know if dynamic menus are possible to make).

DEV Q - Could we port Conap's multiboot?

Hi devs,
today morning it was news on the xda portal, that it is possible to have 4 ROMs installed on the Droid Incredible, and to choose which one you want to boot up.
Here is the thread
I hope somebody will be interested, and we get at least a dualboot. Would be nice especially, that there is the Ubuntu project now.
The only problem is, that we don't have 8GB internal storage, but we have sdcard (where the Ubuntu runs from to)
I will delete this thread as soon as a dev makes an other one for making the development happen.

you are right, it is the case with Incredible, but you can run Ubuntu natively on your DHD and it uses your sdcard, so it would be possible to install the ROMs there

IF we did get this ported to the dhd, would it be good to go for an inspire user like me? or would it take some more dev time to also port it for the inspire. I'm still not technically aware of what dhd and inspire's differences are..
EDIT: also, are the inspire and dhd's internal memory the same?
That's great idea!!
The desire HD have enough internal memory to have cm7 and sense at the same time.

I think no simply because what you said in your post...
Minimal internal memory so I think it would be pointless if possible
Well...I once had a HTC HD (a Windows 6.5 device - great hardware, shockingly bad OS) and installed dual boot on that - Windows 6.5 and Android - there was a splash screen upon boot up where you chose what you wanted to do plus the Android OS was booted from the SD card (and so internal memory wasn't an issue).
It worked flawlessly - I won't take any credit for it as I simply followed instructions on the HTC HD part of the XDA website.
So I would say that yes it is possible but I would argue that there isn't a demand for it - after all what would it achieve?

Try booting into recovery from clockworkmod and flash it the old fashioned way. Some ROMs don't play nicely with the built-in install function. But the working recovery is the key we've needed.

A huge leap forward, again! We technically now have real support from devs out there. Not only r we gonna get CM9, we also received proper CWM with TOUCH! That is just great.
I just wanna say this real quick to KernelPan!c. If you are reading this Kernel, I know you know that your ROM's days are ticking down as CM9 moves closer to reality, but I just wanna say Thank you for all the hard work you have put in into your wonderful ROM! It has given many users here the hope (if its even the slightest bit) that this phone will not be left undeveloped. You kept supporting your ROM when everyone else has dropped out and I greatly appreciate your dedication. I'm sure many others here will agree with me on this.

Absolutely Thank you so much Kernal, and Bytecode for the original port of CWM it's so awesome...
Not working on LU6200, tried it with ROM manager and also via USB and Adb-method. On reboot I got stuck on LG-Logo and no way to enter Recovery. ROM manager found the CWM without any problem and also installed it. However, after reboot and open ROM manager again it states that there is no compatible CWM version available for my phone. Any ideas ?

[DEV][REQ]Dualbooting Galaxy S - aka "porting" LolBoot/Siyah

Ok, you may know this Thread over in the S2 forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205288 or this one http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/04/10/siyahkernel-v3-1beta1/
My idea is too look into HellcatDroid´s special Kernel which allows one system to sit behind an other - primary - system and to be booted with a button combo, and try to "transfer" the preperations needed for this to work.
So we (this is not my project - it should be a big community project) need the help of a Kernel developer. - Everyone´s welcome
gokhanmoral implemented his own Version in his Siyah Kernel - so there is another point to look into.
I will attach HellcatDroid´s Kernel...
I've read a bit in the thread, and I'd say that the second system uses the same partitions as the first, they are splitted for the two systems(i.e. if /data is 512Mbs, 100 are for system2, 412, for system1). Am I right with that?

Well, both ROMs use /data like it's used in one ROM, but they have to share the storage. The amount of Mbs the single ROMs can use is predefined.

As the kernel has to fit both ROMs, you never will be able to have this. Only two different cm9 or cm7 or Sammy ROMs
edit: if mialwe has enough time, I don't think it would be too hard to do this. As /system for second os one should use /datadata I suppose.
But compared to the s2 we have not much space. Maybe the system partition has to be shrinked to 210 MB, to make datadata equal in size.

@DerTeufel: You just stole the words from my mouth. As you rightly said, it won't be possible to boot 2 ROM with 2 different file systems in the same partition - rfs vs yaffs...So it's either got to be 2 CM7s, 2 Sammys or 2 ICS based roms..
so cm & miui would be possible, right? i think that would be a great combo...

Here at MoDaCo
The modded boot.img you can get it from the link I provided there.
Once you are rooted, more or less you are like having a custom ROM as you can start your own customization. The problem is there is no CWM yet so no nandroid can be made or custom ROM to be flashable. But there is a workaround on that, maybe a dev of custom rom can put the custom ROM as a signed update.zip, so in recovery it will flash the custom ROM.
But to do this, a user must have an official RUU for this phone in hand in case something goes wrong.
Thankss anyway.

As stated above, do not use a task killer application. The android OS installed on the device should be able to manage applications correctly already. Using a task killer will just eat up more resources.
But if I don't use then device ll get slow
