[Q]Unlocked and re-locked Bootloader? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

will i get ics update through ota after unlocking and re-locking my bootloader...can i install ics 4.0.4 if i receive it through ota...bcoz i read somewhere in the forum that if install official ota after unlocking bootloader it will brick the device...please help...i m using xperia arc...

There is no OTA update for the arc from GB to ICS. You will have to either flash it using FlashTool or through SEUS or PC Companion.

If you re-locked your Arc's Bootloader, yes, you can update to 4.0.4 OTA if your SI matched with the ones in the list here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/38387
If not, don't worry, I believe you will get it soon.
Edit: you need to restore your ROM to stock (GB) too, as ROM cook not really compatible with official OTA

OTA is Over The Air. There WILL NOT be any OTA update from GB to ICS!!!
ICS is a totally different version of Android. It's not something that can be added to GB like functionality etc. This will have to be done using your computer.

Really? so there will be no update OTA methods for Arc? Cos I just saw my friend update his HTC Sen XL from GB to ICS by OTA a few mins ago!

Well, that is what Sony announced. HTC may do things differently.

So should i update my phone manually....

Why don't you flash the 4.0.4 fw using Flashtool? Head over to the General section and download the link from there.
Cheers!

[Q] 2.3.4 update: keep root?

The option to update my phone just popped up on my Arc (with Rogers.)
Any body know if it will keep my root, like the previous update, or will I have to reroot afterwards?
I am aware that there is a forum for QnA, but I imagine that this thread will be a common occurance in the upcomming days, and it may be beneficial to have
one that will hopefully be answered here for a few days while people get their udpate notifications.
I also should have named the thread "2.3.4 OTA Update: Keep root?"...

You had right now 2.3.3??
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
Yes, I currently have stock Rogers 2.3.3 rooted, and just got the notification that OTA update is available.
I also have a bunch of bloatware frozen with titanium backup. Should I unfreeze it before updating?
I need to keep root and want to avoid flashing if at all possible, so if OTA doesn't work I'll just live with 2.3.3 until I have the time to deal with flashing.
Last time my contact book was completely messed up by the backup and restore.

Download latest 2.3.4 and update via flashtool. How about root i dont know. I have bootloader relocked and then root is always.

So I would need to update with a separate tool?
I'm sorry but your english is a little hard to understand and I want to be sure about this before I do it.

Flashtool is good. If you uncheck "wipe data" than you data will be keept. When you do OTA(overtheair) update then i dont know about root. Problably you lose it. And i think over wire update is best option.
And via flahtool you keep Root.

Alright, I'll just be patient and wait for someone who has tried it.
2.3.2 root -> OTA update -> 2.3.3 did not remove root
It would be great if I could keep it that simple again.
Thanks for your help though, I'll do what you suggested if OTA doesn't work.
Look neo forum and ther is thread about updating 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 via flashtool without losing root.
Regards!

I don't want to use flashtool though,
I just want to know if I will lose root from an OTA update,
as the last OTA update did not remove it.
You wont lose root if you do an ota update

I decided to try doing the OTA update, and now I'm suddenly "up-to-date" but I only have 2.3.3.
Did they remove update, or would there be a reason I suddenly can't get the update?

No problem at all with rooted arc to update by OTA... ;-) Just relock your bootloader (otherwise you brick your phone when you use the official OTA :-S)
After you updated, you stil have complete root access..! ;-)

Awesome, now I just have to figure out why the update has disappeared.
And I don't believe I unlocked bootloader, is there any way to confirm?
My phone has gone 2.3.2 -> 2.3.3 OTA -> flash 2.3.2 -> root -> 2.3.3 OTA

[Q] Xperia Arc Update (Flashing)

I want to flash my Xperia Arc with the 2.3.3 xLoud update and with 2.3.4 afterwards.
I have two questions regarding the flashing;
1. Will flashing delete my installed apps and other files?
2. There are two versions available for flashing with 2.3.3; one is UK generic and the other one is Global generic. I've seen reports that the Global generic version has some 3G and WiFi problems......so is there any problem if I flash with UK generic?
NOTE: I have brought my handset from India and am living here as well.
Thanks in advance!
The guides are quite clear, so pick one and flash it.

ok.....
okay, this almost answers my query
Now, installing a rom like cyanogen mod performs a hard reset and delets everything on the phone.
So will flashing my arc with the se firmware also perform a hard reset or will my apps, contacts etc. still remain?
Just unthick "wipe userdata" in FlashTool and you'll keep everything.
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
Yoy didn't say what's your current version.
Just don't downgrade if you are on 2.3.4 already or u'll f*ck ur phone.
You can downgrade, but with special method.

BL Unlocking Un-Rooted Arc S 4.0.4 Stock ROM

I want to unlock the BL of My Arc S that is on Stock 4.0.4 and wondered if there is a way to do it as the Sony Instructions don't work on ICS, I really don't want to have to find and flash a GB ftf file to unlock the BL unless it is really the only way to go as I'm un-rooted so can't do a NAND backup of my phone with CWM.
Also where would I find an ftf of the 4.0.3 Kernel along with a 4.0.4 kernel ftf so I can root and upgrade the Kernel to the latest 4.0.4 stock one?
Roland
Sigh! Use the search.
The Sony unlocking method should work regardless of what version of Android you run. Unless of course, your bootloader unlocking status says No.
For the kernels and rooting, again, use the search. Go through the threads already on the topic.

root newly purchased Play on 2.3.4?

Hi All
i used to lurk here but a couple of monhs ago got a contract renewal so decided to 'upgrade' my phone, short story later i just sold my phone and had a new Play delivered today (my old one had a cracked screen so it was needed anyway)
well simply put it has the latest official firmware on it and although i plan on keeping stock this time i would still like to root just to clear out a lot of the bloatware.
can this be done on this firmware as the guides state not on GB after Nov 11
cheers
GTanny
I think you need to downgrade to 2.3.3 to root your Play.

You need to hotboot kernal with clockworkmod via fastboot and flash the rootfix zip

No you can jut use zegrush method which is easy
And maybe super one click but I haven't use it so I wouldn't know

You cannot use those methods on the latest version of 2.3.4, .58 is last version of 2.3.4 you can root latest version is .62 or .67 i think
You could flash the enhanced ftf which is a rootable version of .58 via zegrush or superoneclick or as i said above hotboot cwm and install the rootfix on your current setup

as far as i know the cdma version of the play never got a version of gingerbread you cant root via superoneclick so his model must be gsm
Actually 2.3.4 on the r800x can't be rooted.... Thats why you have to downgrade to 2.3.3 then it... & update via ota if you want root on 2.3.4.

i got a bit carried away and im now on NXT with doomlord v14, really enjoying it, nice and fast and chances are im now going to start modding stuff again but at the moment im just enjoying playing games on a phone again.

then just install CWM for ZL over here
but root it first before flashing CWM
lastly flash a pre-rooted 4.3 rom

Well then I need the corresponding Firmware of the 4.1 cause it seems I'm not fully rooted right now some apps have access and some don't
I'm trying to flash the 4.1 kernel so I can try rooting it again even though it says it's Rooted and to try and use that method of down grading the Kernel and running Doom lords Rooting kit but when flashing the old Kernel it may not be the right one I was getting a boot loop so I re-flashed the Canadian 10.3.A.0.423 and all was fine I swear I've searched all over these forums and I can't find what I need just the instructions on how to do it a lot of these links no longer work I'm using a C6506 ZL with the Bell firmware at least I have the FTF to go with it but I need the older one as well.
