If I am correct the big pack 3.1 Is not for ics, it is only for gb.
To install cwm you need root.

Root for 4.0.4 Xperia Arc/ Arc S was out a while ago. One must downgrade the kernel, root and then upgrade it.
try to put your drive into flashmode and flash back to a stock rom/kernel and try install the big pack on an GB rom!
First of all, go to this forum and download the LT15i 4.0.4 update for your phone. I suggest Generic Global World.
Flash it using the latest version of Flashtool (v0.8.6.0). Check the No Final Verification box. Welcome to the correct build of ICS for your phone. LOL!
Now you've already downloaded the LT18's 4.0.3 ftf previously. Using Flashtool, just flash the kernel alone of the 4.0.3 build. Make sure you exclude everything else. The 4.0.3 kernel is rootable using the zergrush exploit.
Once that's done, flash back the 4.0.4 kernel. Again making sure to exclude everything else other than the kernel.
And there you go, you have a rooted 4.0.4. After this, go download pvyParts' Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from the market.
That should solve your problem. You should have no issues with CWM after that. (Maybe except a slight offline charging issue. )

Sorry, my bad. I misquoted. I meant to say use DooMLorD's Rooting Toolkit for ICS.
EDIT: I take that back. The Rooting Toolkit DOES use the zergrush exploit.

hey ..
i ask about how can i log in Recovery mode for Xperia Arc LT15i without flashing kernels.
I want to enter recovery of sony , want to keep sony logo and the ability also to enter recovery without pc.
Do you have you root? If do you can install clockworkmod/cwm which will get you into recovery mode there is a link to download in the dev section or go to market and download it is free.

uhm are you using the stock rom from sony?
because i'm pretty sure .62 cant be rooted with zergRush
Like the post above you can't directly root.62 with zergrush method.
If your bootloader is locked you can use flashtools to downgrade to .42 then get root with zergrush, then you can update over the air to .62 and still keep root.
If your bootloader is unlocked do not update over the air out you will brick your phone.
Look at the stickies you will find all the tools you need.

the Bootloader is opened and i uses a prerooted kernel and Windy Ser1es 30.5 rom.
when i try to use titanium back up, it said Root : can't access. so why ? i dnt know.
now, i want to do root manually, how i can do this ?
i want to keep my opened boot loader and keep sony logo with recovery, how can i do this also ?
Flash DooMKernel to get root and then flash the other kernel to keep the Sony logo.
But why do you want to keep that Sony logo?
DooMLoRD's bootlogo looks much better

thanks for your reply.
another 2 Qs :
-what's the difference bet. CM7.2 and CM9.0 and which is better ?
-which kernel is best to use ?
CM7.2 = Android 2.3.7
CM9 = Android 4.0.4
For CM ROMs the included kernels are the best
For gingerbread from Sony I'd say go for DooMKernel

Thanks, ArcMan09. I have only rooted the Arc and have not installed any other firmware - it still has the existing manufacturer's firmware. I have also not unlocked the bootloader. Will it not accept an "official" update again ?
The updates do some checks on your current system, if it seems modified it will not update. Just do a restore in pcc it will install the latest version on your phone for you.

Just flash 4.1.A.0.562 ftf files with FlashTool.
FlashTool do not require unlocked bootloader.
After that you can root easily.

I just updated my Arc to ICS. Connected through the Sony Companion which detected the SW update and it downloaded and updated it. The downside of this is that my existing root has been 'patched', ie, it has been unrooted with the update. Waiting for Doomlord to work his magic now

Yes - but what we really need is a 1-click rather than flash 'down', root and then flash. Am too lazy for these you know...basically a zergrush exploit or an emulator trick for the latest firmare...

There is no easy root method at the moment. If you want root then you will need to downgrade the kernel then root then update kernel.

The only easy way is an unlocked bootloader, other you'll either have to use the downgrade or wait for an exploit.

Ok, so I have now rooted following instructions from this thread :
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119
Step 1. Download Flashtool
Step 2. Download the .562 kernel
Step 3. Flash .562 kernel and reboot phone
Step 4. Root using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
Step 5. Download the .431 kernel
Step 6. Flash .431 kernel and reboot phone
I don't see why you need to go check on the talk.sonymobile.com site as those very same instructions have been posted here.
You do realise that everything that happens there is just a rehash of what happens here at XDA. :cyclops:

True...just that I had several links bookmarked on this rooting thing and I followed one of them. Btw, the .562 & .431 kernel links were about 5 MB each, whereas the ones I found on XDA were ~250MB - guess they included the entire stuff...or, I wasn't searching properly here:crying:

Righto...just wondering why you need to download the whole ftf's when kernel flash would do...
Probably because they couldn't find the kernel alone. In that case, the only option would be to download the entire ftf.

Hi, i recently upgraded my arc LT15i to an arc s LT18i with ICS, all is working well with no problems. I want to install cwm recovery onto my phone as i want to flash more mods. After looking around i see you need cwm recovery in case it all goes wrong. I have installed rom manger from the market place but when i try to flash cwm recovery it asks if i have installed a cwm based recovery manually ( i haven't) i select no and it tells me that until cwm recovery is available, rom manager will not work with LT18i. Can anyone help or advise. I am fairly new to this flashing business so simple terms please.
Thanks

make this
[HOW-TO] CWM on ICS
To have CWM on phone,
For locked bootloader, use Xperia Auto Installer. Can be download at market.
For unlocked bootloader, flash custom kernel with CWM like Stock ICS kernel with CWM, ArcKnight and Doomkernel.

But it works fine on ics. bare in mind that my app installs cwm into the system recovery. And if you have an unlocked.bootloader your better off getting a kernel with cwm. Or getting the stock kernel with cwm put in to the ramdisk
Oh one note the app will break offline charging. I have a fix.in my thread for it tho and as soon as my pc will compile.apps again I'll release a new version on the market.

Hi
After attempting to install Xperia Ice Bean on my Xperia LT15i awhile ago then reboot the phone, I am now astuck on SONY Logo. Itried giving n 10 minutes to wait for the tools to be installed however, I still got this SONY logo. I performed full reboot by removing the battery and still getting the same.
Now, I'm trying to revive my phone by installing the stock ROM of ICS 4.0.4.
Can somebody help me on this. I'm so nervous already that I might not be able to revive my phone.
Please I need your help guys ASAP.
BTW I'm using LT15i running on Rooted ICS 4.0.4 with the updated Busybox installed.
Managed to install CWM.
Here's what happened.
I have to tell it honestly. I didn't follow the instructions on how to correctly install the ROM. I just mount the sdcard and install the zip without even wiping the data and doing factory reset. I know its wrong but I still did it.
Can somebody assist me on this.
Thanks, I can donate some of my cash to your build if I revive my phone back.
Assuming you can get into flash mode, just reflash stock Rom available in the general arc section, use flashtools for this.
After you get stock back you are at the point of decision, do you stick with current set up or try custom roms, remember custom roms sometimes need custom kernels as well so you will need unlocked bootloader to send them via fastboot.
I have found some custom roms don't work I too get blank screens etc, but have installed the pureness build and it runs well

Hi everyone !
I had a rooted xperia arc s with the last firmware. I have just updating it to 4.1.B.0.587, so it is no longer rooted. The problem is that when I try to root it (I have tried different ways) with Flashtool, it doesn't function. What is strange is that when I plug my Arc S to the computer, Flashtool says busybox version .....
if I try to unroot it, flashtool tell me the phone is not root. And if I begin root, Flashtool stops by saying click restore on your phone, and nothing appears on my phone.
I have tried to restore my phone and to root again but this is the same result...
Can someone help me please ?

4.0.4 is unrootable. You need to downgrade the kernel so you can use the exploit found in that version of kernel.
