[Q] Email Does not sync Automatically - HTC One X

hello everyone
I got the ONE X last night, and I am having a problem in automatically receiving my Emails.
I have set An Exchange Email, Gmail, and Yahoo mail using the device's mail app.
the "Auto-Sync" is Deactivated to save battery and avoid syncing other accounts.
in the mail settings of the Exchange Account, I set the "Peak time Sync" to (Push mail) which means (I guess!!) I would get the Email as soon as it reaches the account.
in the Gmail and Ymail, the Least time available on the "Peak time sync" is 5 minutes.
in either case, I am unable to receive the Emails unless I start the app and manually refresh!!!
the Email reaches Ymail or Gmail on the Laptop, I wait for more than 20 minutes with no notification on the device!
I didn't have this problem when I had the Galaxy SII, and sometimes the Exchange Email reached the device before the Laptop!!
this is very annoying and any suggestion is welcome!
I do not wanna go for the Ymail app from the Market or any other Exchange support app!
NOTE: the Gmail application in the Device behaves the same way,, does not sync until I manually refresh from the app itself

If you want to receive pushed data, auto-sync must be on.

When I had the SGSII I never turned the Auto-Sync On, and I used to get the Emails all the time very quickly!
Both are Android I do now know what is the problem!

Does any one have an idea about this issue??

as pa64 said, the emails will not sync with auto-sync disabled
turn it on and turn off auto sync manually for each app you don't want it to sync

I will give it a try. But doesn't this affect the battery life? Which is already not good?

possibly. but you can either turn it on and have push email or leave it off and have to manually check.
afaik auto-sync is a system wide switch for all updating. if you manually turn it off for everything other than mail only mail will be polling for updates. and there was some stuff a couple of years ago (with the iphone) that seemed to conclude that push is actually pretty battery efficient.

I don't want to work in the push mode with the google email, so i disabled the google sync through "Accounts & sync", but i want to receive google emails every 4 hours.
So i defined the google email account under Mail and defined to receive email every 4 hours.

The problem is that because the Google sync is disabled i can not get the google emails every 4 hours.
Question:
Is there any solutions to disable the push google mode and work with 4 hours
email check.
Thanks for the assistance.

Not too sure, but I would think receiving email every 4 hours would still require it to be running in push mode? Which would explain why you need sync to be turned on.
Not 100% sure, and would be interested to hear other opinions or solutions to your problem.
In addition i put attention on additional issue,
When my Google sync is ON i receiving emails in push mode to the gmail application , and the strange issue that these emails are not updated on the "MAIL" screen (where i configured the gmail account).
Hope the issue is clear ....
have you defined the gmail app in the mail app as POP, IMAP or Exchange?
DOn;t use POP.
But the sync in Gmail and the mail app should not be related to each other whatsoever. Mine works fine when i set it up to IMAP.
of course, make sure you have always on mobile turned on and have the internet enabled, otherwise all should be gravy....

I actually get notifications of emails much faster in the Gmail app than I do in the default Mail app. Gmail would instantaneously notify me of any new mail as soon as one is sent. For the default Mail app, it takes at least 5-10 mins before it does that.
I'm not sure if it's because for the default Mail app, the shortest interval you can select for receiving data is 5mins, but for the Gmail app, it's either turned on or off, which might make it instantaneous.

This is the issue that i don't want to use the push ( which is the fastest way to receive email), i just want simple gmail configuration which will connect to the mail server every 4 hours and download the messages.
BTW the push requires much battery use (not sure).

I think for the Gmail app, it has to be push. Is there any reason you wouldn't want to use the default Mail app, sync to your gmail account, and set the retrieve interval to be 4 hours? That would solve your issue, would it?
Did the same. Just create an Exchange Acc - Sync every X mins/hours (or Push if you want to).

*Update*
I found some good instructions here:

I dont think this is true, due to push email, makes the server from google to basically push email, if there is no email, it doesnt use internet every 4 hours to connect to google server to look for new mail therefore saves battery, while downloading 1 by 1 when they come is equivalent to getting a lot of email at once, for example 1 email every hour = 4 email at once every 4 hours.

I am not sure it's correct if you gets everyhour 1 email and you need to download it every hour, then i think it's better to connect once and download all the emails (once in 4 hours). But it's not important, i just want to be able to configure the mobile phone according to mine requirements.
Thanks for the respond.
The main reason to disable the push mail, is to disable the night emails.
Is there any possibility to disable the push during the night.
Thanks

[GMail] Mail taking forever to arrive...

When I get mail its taking long periods of time (2 + hours) before the phone syncs and alerts me. Should this not be instant? If I perform a manual sync mail always comes in at that point.
Im using the built in gmail app (not mail). Background data, and Auto sync are checked. Sync Calendar/contacts/Gmail are checked. Gmail account does have IMAP and POP enabled, I had no issue with instant email sync with the PRE.
Is there a setting im missing? I really need email to be more instant than hours.
There are several of us that are having this problem today...If your phone just started doing this today it's likely that this is a problem with a gmail server somewhere.
Mine's been working fine lately. Is your Gmail set to sync as mail arrives, or is it timed?

[Q] Email and App Sync Management

Hi;
I am the proud new owner of a DHD having just migrated from an iPhone 3G, this phone is just awesome but will take a heck of a lot of getting used to, its not a smart phone its a god dam technical revelation!!!
Anyway, I set up email (BT Yahoo), Facebook, Twirtter, Skype and created a Google Mail Account (Had to do download apps) but its not setup in mail yet.
After setting the above up I noticed that 3G was constantly on, is this normal?
Anyway my question is how do prevent Facebook et al from constantly syncing? On my iPhone they would only sync when I opened the application.
Also once an application has been opened how do I know / make sure that it is off, does simply switching to another screen switch it off or is it still running in the background using up batter charge?
Many thanks in advance.
Go to Settings / Accounts & syncs
Under there there is Auto-sync check box, you can check and select what to sync over there.
My question is How can I set Gmail check status on a random basis, once I check out Google it's immediatly push mail but I want it to check it i.e. every 4 hours.
How can I do that?

There's the option in the mail app I think. You can set two modes, for example 1h intervals during tha day and 4h at night etc.

Sync Button

In the Power Saving widget, what does the Sync button do?
The reason I'm asking: I've turned off Sync and rebooted, but my Exchange accounts continue to pull mail.

I think that only has to do with syncing with Google servers. Exchange is Microsoft and will need to be disabled via the email apk of you want to turn off auto sync.

Exchange accounts have the sync set to a timer regardless of sync enabled or not, that's why it continues pushing notifications.
I think that calendar and contacts are not syncing with "sync" turned off, even though email messages are being received.
So I'm gathering this weird picture of Exchange Activesync on the Android platform, in which I can use the Email app to control how often messages are synced, but I have to use "Accounts and Sync" to sync calendar, tasks and contacts....AND...there's no way to schedule those sync operations. I guess they're set to 24/7 pull or something?

In looking at technet, and because Android uses a global setting for push or set notifications (trying to find it in google code), there is an option for the exchange administrator to change your refresh policy..
In the following link, you'll find Exchange Information on 2010 Push. Look at the top left corner of the page, and you'll find more specific information. (I'm assuming that your connecting to 2010)
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997252.aspx
Still looking for the Android side and seeing if there's an easier fix. This will be nice to know since we're going to BYOD at work..
:edit #2: Looking at the Android side; All I'm seeing is a global setting on Email sync schedule. Even going through the fone's calendar sync options, it'll take you right back to the Global setting. :/ Saw some posts talking about Juice Defender being an option for now but it looks like it's really managed by the refresh policy on the Exchange side..
This is what I'm searching for in 'Droid.. "...A short time-out value causes the device to initiate a new HTTPS request more frequently. This can shorten battery life on the device..."

That, sir, was some DAMN useful information. Thank you
As it turns out, I'm the Exchange Admin for both of the Exchange organizations to which I keep my phone connected.
I hopped on the firewall of the less-anal retentive organization, and their HTTP and HTTPS timeout sessions are set correctly (ie, 1800 seconds).
I'll need to have the other organization's firewall admin take a peek at their setup tomorrow.
THANKS AGAIN.
If you don't mind, please let me know what you find out.
I'm going to be writing a policy suggestion to my cio and the more information the better.
Obviously we don't want regular users having to mod their phones with apks that we write. Whole "liability" thing..
Although I highly doubt that most would attribute battery life to getting mail or events..

Gmail Push Notification

So I don't know if it's just my phone, but push notification of emails in Gmail does not work. There is not option in settings to have Push notification. It only lists never, every 15min, 30 min, hour, 4 hours, once a day... and even when I put it on every 15 minutes, it doesn't notify me when I have an email. I have to manually go in the Email app and refresh the email. My hotmail works great though and it has an option for Push. Did I set up the sync schedule wrong? I have peak schedule at every 15 min, off-peak at every 30 min, peak days selected for every day of the week, peak start time at 6:00am, peak end time at 2:00am and manual for while roaming. This is another concern of mine for this phone. My iphone did a great job of notifying me when emails came in.
Thanks!
Questions:
Under Settings -> Accounts and Sync ... Is sync set as on?
When you click on your gmail account name, it should give you a list of things to sync (mine has: calendar, contacts, gmail)
Is Gmail checked as on?

I can't seem to find what you're talking about. I'm pretty new to android. Would you happen telling me what settings to go to? Device settings? Email settings? I'm using the email app for gmail, not the gmail app since I have more than I email address.
Thanks
You'll have to set up your Gmail as a separate "Exchange ActiveSync" account to get proper Push.

That is so much better. Thank you so much!
Btw, you can use the Gmail app with multiple Gmail accounts. I use it for all of mine, and the email app for non-gmail accounts.
