I am using BlackICE ROM and i am wondering is it possible to completely remove the car mode from the ROM or any ROM? It keeps going into car mode randomly despite cleaning the USB port and uninstalling car home app.

you can also use ES file explorer to navigate to /system/app/ and delete it but you will need to have root access and setup ES file explorer to ask for root access and where it can browse.
I did all you said from ES file explorer but still no avail... this daam car thing is not irritating me to the core....
Please please please help..
Use Root Explorer click on system/app then scroll through list

Just want to know where the .apk files are kept on the phone because I want to manually back up so I don't need to download everytime I do a reset. I also want to keep them on my PC.
I've searched all the folders but could not find them. Are they hidden?
Try using a file manager such as Astro or ES file explorer. They have the ability to save an app to an apk.

Just go astro, press menu button, choose tools then backup option.
Then select the app that you want to back up.

Very sorry, this is a bit of a newbie question. I've updated to revo HD 2.1 and recently put on the power notification widget add on.
It says you can edit the widget.txt file in system/customize.
Well I got there but using root option on estrong yet I cannot see or edit the txt file. I've accepted superuser access etc. Selected Hiapk, didn't see it, selected cryogen and that didn't see anything either..
I also tried atsro and root explorer with no luck.
What file explorer people use to edit root system files?
Thanks for reading.

Why don't you edit the txt file on your pc before flashing the mod? ES file explorer should do fine...
Doh, I think it wad titanium back up causing problems, I reinstalled it and everything looked fine.
Out of curiosity, how do I explore system dir when on pc?
Thanks for quick reply.

You can do it using adb, but you would have to work in the terminal (unless there's a GUI for it I don't know off?)
Regarding your first question: I would recommend Root Explorer, works like a charm

i think that ES file explorer is the best of the explorer
I use ES File Explorer and sometimes AndroZIP for unzipping archives.
Isn't he asking for a file explorer which will let him edit /system/customize/widget.txt?
I think the thread title is misleading.

I've been using root explorer to try and delete a config.data file for my browsers flash player and the file will always come back after a few hours.. /: this is on miui 1.12.9, and this occurs both with dolphin browser and the stock browser.
Did you try to edit it?

I tried to write it out in your flash player thread a few down.I like ES file explorer because it has its own editor. You'll need to go into settings and under file settings check show hidden files. Then check up /, and check root access

anyone have any File Explorer suggestion? it must be as good as Root Explorer but only access Internal & External SDCard and without root permission.. it's very dangerous if my little brother play with the system file (who knows?)
because I'm using CM9 and the OI File Manager is so stupid and poor..
thx in advance..
Astro file manager, es file manager (do not enable root explorer mode) or the stock file manager from samsung should do you fine...
Solid Explorer!

+1 for ES. I have been using it since it first came out. It's very good, the 1st thing I restore after factory reset / reflash.
_____ W + Bionic Cow 2 + xda app _____
Solid Explorer-it's very powerful

Try X-plore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5sb25lbHljYXRnYW1lcy5YcGxvcmUiXQ..
It has the option to allow or disallow SU root access.
I recomend ES too it's free and adless, and it looks very elegant (especially the icons)

my opinion... is x-plore.
iam using it since iam using symbian phone (n81-n95) its the best file explorer... it can open apk as zip, open rar file, create zip, superuser permission, hex viewer, show hidden, edit permissiom, create/edit teks, has dedicated audio, picture, video player. and yeah...

Es explorer, highly recommended

Es file is the best
why not just have both>>??
i have 2 file explorer on my phone,, one is the default provided in cm9,, and the other one is x-plore.... i also have root explorer...
I'm now rooted using CF method, no custom recovery though. I want to remain stock. But, one of the primary reasons I went ahead and rooted is so that I can get rid of the 2 horrible power on & off sound files. Is it just me or do you also find those completely obnoxious and loud??
Anyhow, here's the problem:
I've located the 2 files (poweron.ogg and poweroff.ogg). I don't want to delete them, I just want to rename them so they are in essence "hidden" and can't be called, therefore keeping my sanity everytime I shutdown or startup. But when I try to rename (I've now tried ES file explorer and Astro - both to no avail) the files, I get a permission denied or some other message saying the file is write-protected and I'm unable to rename or delete.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
You need to make the folder r/w (read/write) instead of r/o (read only). You should have that option in all root explorer software.
Install es file explorer, press the menu button and then root explorer. Then from there go to mount read/write and change the system checkbox to r/w. Now you should be able to mod the files.
