[Q] External SD disappear with Open source roms, why? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am currently running the Frankenstein rom, and when I open Titanium Backup you can see my 32GB external SD, but when I switch to a rom like CM9, Miui, my external SD doesn't show. I was wondering two things, does this has anything to do with the rom is a leak or open source, and two is there a fix?

Read through those ROM's threads. I know they are big threads but search for SD card or emmc. I don't have to much experience using them but the SD card is there it's just labeled emmc somewhere.

Yea its because your extsd is under /emmc on AOSP roms whereas on TWiz roms its just /sdcard/externalsd. You should read through the threads. Guarantee your question was answered there.

Thank you for your help, I been searching around for awhile, and saw questions that sound like it may applied to my question, but wasn't sure if the answers would help, I didn't want to clutter up Q&A with repetition.

[Q] SD Card Replacement

Howdy.
I've purchased a Class10 16gb kingston badboy and am having rather the trouble copying everything to it. I'm sure i'll work it out in the end but just in case I don't I thought I would ask if there's any amazing solution to SD Card Replacement out there... e.g. Ghosting an SD Card?
Currently an 8gb with fat / ext3 / swap (sadly)
Im in the process of backing up everything again from the 8gb and re-formatting the 16 while trying to copy shiz over. Fun times to their respective places on sd-ext.
Dont ask questions like this in the development thread.
Desire Q and A is more the place for these kind of questions.
Moved to Q&A as not development. Please do not make new threads in development to ask questions.
Try plugging in both sdcards to your pc (Linux, if using windows get a gparted livecd) then use gparted to copy the partitions over, then resize the fat partition to fill your sdcard.
Sorry guys, my bad. Realised my mistake of placement after pressing post.
Merc that would have been an epic solution However after much fustration, I got the great idea to do a backup of the current install through rom manager, copy that over to the other sd, load up in recovery and restore.
Somehow that made all the correct partitions and everything too. Ohhh what a mission.
Cheers for the help

[Q] SD card help

Sorry to post a new thread but I have been searching for a couple of days now and am still confused, so please forgive me if I have missed the obvious answer. (I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for a very treatable form of cancer but the chemo is messing with the logical part of my brain, so again, please forgive a noob/silly/obvious question!)
I have a Desire HD and I am very confused about how to ensure that my apps are installed to my SD card. When I flashed a custom ROM, I am fairly certain that I did not partition the SD card (unless the flashing process does it automatically).
In my searching on this site, I've read somewhere that you no longer need to partition the card. I've also read something about the fact that Gingerbread roms now 'format' the SD card as XFAT4 file system while flashing. Is this correct? If so, does this mean that my apps will all automatically install to the SD card? I keep getting limited space on the current SD card which has more than enough room for my apps. (Hope that makes sense.)
Sorry to be such a noob but I am totally confused and just need to know what on earth to do with the SD card.
Any help would be very much appreciated!! Thanks in advance.
First off we are all hoping you pull through. Get Well.
You do not have to partition your sd card. And doubt there is a custom ROM when flashed that will do it. My card is fat32 with only the primary partition and has always been that way. I have never reformatted my card. If you are flashing a new ROM and you do a complete wipe it might be a good idea to format your card yourself, either through your computer or your phone. Then you can have a fresh clean start. Of course back up all your important info to your pc first.
Your phone by default installs apps to the phone's internal memory. There are some apps that you install that will install to the sd card from the market. I am guessing you are running out of internal memory and not sd card memory though.
There are a few apps that can MOVE most of your apps to the sd card. I don't think there is one that will install them to the sd card by default. They have to be moved there by you. You don't need an app to move your apps as froyo and gingerbread ROMs can do it for you if you have a sense based ROM. Other ROMs may also work this way but I am only familiar with sense based ROMs.
Go to your app drawer > hit "menu" button > select "remove app" > select "On SD card" tab. It will list all your apps that are on the SD card as well as those that can be moved. The ones with a check are already on your SD card. If you want to move one that is not checked just select it and then select "move to sd card". It will move the app then hit the back button. Repeat this process until you have all your apps moved that you wish to move.
If your ROM cannot do this on its own there is a varety of apps on the market that can do this. Just do a search for "app2sd" and you will see the multitude of downloads. Most are free or have free versions.
Again get well.
Thank you soooo very much. Your reply was very helpful. (I didn't want to brick my phone. )
Also, thanks for the well wishes. I am definitely getting better. The prognosis is very good, but chemo isn't much fun and really messes with your brain, to say least. Fortunately, I'm nearly finished. I wouldn't have even mentioned chemo in the first place but I didn't want anyone to think I was either too lazy to search properly or too dimwitted to understand all the information.
Thank you for your good wishes and also for your speedy and helpful reply.
Plus one to that dude. I wish you well in your recovery.

@Agoattamer: Now THAT is the kind of post I like to see! Didn't have an issue myself, but that gets a "thanks" anyway due to a high level of "SO MUCH WIN."
And to the OP, best wishes to you for a full recovery! FWIW, one of my friends battled aggressive leukemia through most of high school and won. 10 years into remission and going strong. AOKP File System Questions

This is kind of based off another thread I started but the subject has changed a bit. First I'd like it if someone could break down for me how the AOKP filesystem is divided up( and maybe a lot of this goes for other builds as well ). But on our E4GT you have the root system, /sdcard, /emmc( This doesn't exist in non CM based ROMs from what I've seen ) and /mnt/sdcard and /mnt/emmc which are links( or link targets ) to the root directories of the same name.
Regarding those directories, when you look in Settings->Storage you see "Internal Storage" with 1.97gb, "Validity" with 11.49gb storage, and an "Issued On" heading which states whatever your micro sd card has. No idea why they call it "Validity, that screen is confusing to me in general.
- If I do "Erase USB Storage" will that do /mnt/sdcard and /mnt/emmc?
- "Unmount shared storage" will only unmount the /mnt/emmc correct?
- Most system things go on /mnt/sdcard ( Camera, Evernote settings, GoSMS and Syncr settings for isntance. ) I'd really like them to be on the external so I don't loose them during data/factory wipes, and generally so their safer from deletion over all. Is there anyway to change the external card to be /mnt/sdcard other than going in and trying to manually place a symbolic link in linux on the device?
- For some reason, why I plug in my phone now I only see one drive, which corresponds with /mnt/sdcard, I have no access to /mnt/emmc as a drive any longer. I've tried formatting the card via an SD Card adapter on my computer, I reflashed AOKP from scratch, and still the PC just will not give me access to it after I "Connect USB Storage" in the notification dropdown. This is what my other thread was about mainly, but split it off seeing as I had more in depth questions.
Thanks for any info you can provide, I love android, but there storage methodology seems a little odd, and this is coming from a Linux / Unix guy
very interested in this as well. I have AOKP as well and noticed my 32gb micro SD card wasn't showing properly.

[Q] Why oh FRIGGIN why cant I get apps to SD!

I will apologize in advance for acting the village idiot but i don't get it.
I have been running the script to swap my card for the internal memory.
I have tried both Clean Rom 5.0 and Jedi x16
Tried both with different Kernels
Same Result, I get it to "Work" in that I see the "internal" memory as my 64gig card
However
All apps are still loading to the actual phone memory.
I am at a complete loss as to how I fix this. ill attempt to anwser some of the questions you may have in order to help me........
I am currently running Clean Rom 5.0 with perseus alpha36
card was formatted
ran script properly............Must have or I would have seen the swap under "storage"
Is there a step im missing? I see under app manager that the apps are still going to the actual phone memory.
I hope that made some level of sense and someone can help me out.
What is your micro Sd format?
Fat32

Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.............................................
anybody home???
Zzzzzzzzzzz
Seriously, nobody can help????
i'm sorry bud, but android ICS and higher version are not allowed to move apps from Internal to SD. Google made the changes, but there are ways to do this and i assume you are rooted. Here it is, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889550, directory bind, i used it for a while, it works.
I have a working zip for this, it swaps the internal and external memory. You still need it?
I believe folder mount may be of some use to you.

[Q] KitKat 4.4.2 External SD Card issue

Hey everyone,
I am having issues with my external SD card, which apparently is a design part of KitKat. I have read of some fixes for other devices, but before I try any of those, do you know if they will work on the T989? If so, what fix do you recommend? Thanks in advance!
I am having no problems running HellKat which is a 4.4.2 ROM if I remember correctly. External storage seems to function fine on my device.
What issues are you having? The only issue I had was that the phone didn't allow for Mass Storage anymore and needed to use MTP/PTP. I did up a quick and dirty shell script to get around this though and I'm more than happy with the results.

I am running this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521015
I've been happy with it for quite a while, but maybe it wasn't using my external SD when I thought it was. My external has 12.29GB avail, but my internal is full. Everything tries to download to the internal, and I get a message that download failed for no space. I was reading some on it, and it seems like KitKat doesn't really support external SD. (Unless I've interpretted things wrong, which I guess is a possibility.) I found a few workarounds online, but I haven't heard of the devs before, and I couldn't find much on XDA, so just thought I'd post it here for the experts.
Thanks!

Sounds like normal issues...look into app2sd or similar apps. And check your app default download locations. I know most default to internal.
