I'm wondering why updates are rolling out 2-3 weeks after Europe (yes another person whinging about this) - but what I really want to know is who to complain to so this is sped up in the future?
Is it the carrier that controls this or HTC?
depends... is your phone carrier branded?
if yes then the carrier will be modifying the software to add their own boot logos, apps etc
if no then its just HTCs update schedule. if you don't want to wait flash the RUU but it'll wipe phone (not SD) data
What software version are you on at present?
Thanks guys. I'm on 1.29.708.9.
It always comes out like weeks late - my phone is supposed to be branded Smartone in Hong Kong (luckily there are no annoying logos etc, just crap apps).
All very annoying.

there's your problem
It's not branded but it's the Hong Kong region unbranded handset - you have to wait for HTC to push the update out (which I don't think they have yet)

Can't you just change the CID to turn it into any other country's (that also has it) model? I mean, as long as you make sure you don't mix up a One X and One XL CID, and the radio frequency for the one you change to is the same (in case any update has a new radio), you should be fine, right?

Anyone have the new Arc on Orange?
Is it Orange branded? How much Orange software/games demos have they loaded it with and can you remove them?
Thanks in advance!
dude orange cripple their fones with the crap they stick on them which you cannot remove unless you root, im leaving them this month to get the arc on a diff carrier, but if you want to stay with orange my best advice would be to upgrade or get it via carphonewarehouse, phones4u or mobiles.co.uk, that way the handset comes unlocked and has no bloatware from manufacturers and will have firmware as its ment to be therefore will get updates far quicker
or reflash to the decrypted ROM in the development section

+1 on that.. always better to go unbranded - you will get more updates and quicker too..
well I had no problems reflashing my ROM on my Xperia X10 and I never rooted it. You just need to use the flash tool that is also in the Development section

SE have stated simlocked arcs will have locked boot loaders whereas sim free ala cpw p4u and mobiles.co.uk ones will all have unlocked or unlockable bootloaders which opens up the phone for further advancement with the devs
Thanks all for the comments.
I need to order via Orange - I have a couple of contracts with them and am due for upgrade. None of the retailers can get close to what they have offered me.
I currently have an Orange branded Desire - hence my original question.
I dont really want to flash it (yet) - so back to my original question;
Does anyone actually have an Orange branded Arc and what have they loaded on to it?

bit too early for people who buy direct from orange, the reason is that they havent released it yet... officially, i think its only available for upgrades right now
Orange stores were selling them from last Friday.
OK - well I'll have my Orange supplied Arc with me tomorrow.
So I'll report back and share the love (info) !
I'm waiting for one as well
the guy on the phone told me it should not be sim locked and branding is questionable, since Gingerbread is new, there's possibility it's not yet branded - only the startup logo..
let's see if it's truth

No way in he(( it's not branded. If you get it through the carrier, it's definitely got the branding!
I should have it today, will keep you posted
if it's branded, I will return it - I didn't mess with flashing yet, don't want to crash my phone ?
ok, finally got mine from Orange (Slovakia)
and the guy was right !!
no logo on chassis
no startup Orange screen
no Orange custom icons
no Orange menu
NOTHING !! It was worth, I saved 300€
Update:
Branded as expected...
-Boot screen
-Orange App Shop
-Orange Backup
-Orange Games
-Homescreen selector (choose between Orange and SE)
-Orange Maps
-Orange Plus
-Orange TV
-Orange Wednesday
-Orange Photo Upload
-Your Orange
Also has some games demos, but I suspect they might have been put on by SE - I was able to uninstall them.
In the (Orange branded) box:
-Arc (with Orange logo on rear) & battery
-USB cable/mains charger
-2 x screen protectors (1 fitted to the screen, 1 spare)
-8GB card (was already installed in the phone)
-Earphones
-HDMI cable
I presume this is SIM locked too... but what's the quickest/easiest way of telling?
(I only have Orange SIM cards in my household!)
FYI - This is Orange UK
wow... so I guess I got lucky - I heard they are going to brand Orange SK as well, but it takes time since Gingerbread's new (Froyo is branded here)

Find a mate that's on a different network and borrow their SIM?
@discos7u,
I'm interested to hear how the Orange-branded version seems to work. What have they nobbled?
Presumably there's no (wifi) tethering available (which I understand the unbranded versions have got)?
[I can probably then justify to myself that it's worth shelling out the extra cash for an unbranded version!]
Cheers!

I upgraded my Orange contract from CPW last week, free phone on £30 pm contract. Ordered the phone last Thursday, delivered at home Friday. CPW are the only ones stocking the silver one which I think looks much better than the black/blue one.

Anyone have a One X that Came from India? I ordered one from amazon the box says HTC India and the phones software says English-India.
Phone was not made there of course but it came from there. Any issues with that or should i be fine
The seller probably imported it from India and selling it there. (Amazon has lots of quad core factory unlocked versions which come from UK and asia ).
Other than universal problems that might be present in any One X, there is nothing special to look for in the phone coming from India. Its same as any other International One X.

You can't without S-OFF
I have a factory unlocked HOX that I bought from NewEgg. The phone's default language was Taiwan English and all the packaging also matches with that, so I guess it's an Asian market device. Now, as you can probably see, I'm in Canada, on Virgin Mobile. I'm also new to Android, coming from iOS. Something I had always heard about as a negative about the Android platform was that people had to not only wait for Google to release their OS updates (eg 4.0.4), and for their device manufacturer to create their OTA update (Android 4.0.4 plus Sense 4.x I guess), but also for the carrier to roll out the updates.
So my questions are simply, "what role does the carrier have in OTA updates?", "how does this process work when you have a factory unlocked device?", and "does the fact that my carrier does not carry/officially support the HOX change anything?"
I've already received OTA updates since I got the phone, so I know they work, I'm just interested in how the whole update system works in Android, and how my OTA update availability schedule will look.
Thanks

your phone is the international unlocked version. in fact its the taiwan version which in some and most cases, gets the update before the europen and asian N HK ones. If there is an update, you would be the first to receive it.

how would I possibly know whether I will be able to flash the recent JB roms? Is it safe to say that all the stock available now have the right CIDs?
I am jumping ship from Samsung and this seems like the sweet spot for Android right now, especially weighing bang for the buck. I hope this is not a noob question.
Thanks in advance to my new community hopefully.
CIDs are regional. You need a phone destined for Western Europe and unbranded.
Basically you'd need to buy an unbranded phone from within Europe to get one with a compatible CID.

So if I bought an unlocked "global" one from Negri for instance I assume that would suffice. Right? Link -- http://negrielectronics.com/htc-one-x-32gb-unlocked-black.html#.UIhOK8WHJkY
I wonder why it shows the old "Market" app instead of the new Play Store.
old market, on what rom?

So after some uneventful conversations on the HTC live chat, I'm wondering if any of you have an unlocked HTC 10 from Australia and have the nougat update?

It started rolling out about a week and a half ago. Are you rooted? If so you won't get an OTA update. You'll need to update manually
I'm not. To my knowledge I have a stock ROM as I got this handset from JB.

Would this be an Optus OTA? To my knowledge, Telstra and Vodafone haven't released any comms about Nougat update for the HTC 10 while Optus was testing both the M9 and 10 earlier this month. M9 was definitely listed as released but 10 was still marked as being tested earlier this week.

As I understand it, JB HiFi was selling phones with either Optus or Vodafone firmware. Mine's from JB too and is on 1.95.710.3 which I understand to be the Vodafone version.
Optus update status states 'Testing Android 7.0 update and VoLTE – completion expected late February':
https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Android-Software-Updates-16-02-2017/ba-p/198463
UPDATE: Actually, Vodafone has HTC 10 listed as well as "Testing complete, awaiting feedback from HTC", hopefully that doesn't mean a long wait.
http://community.vodafone.com.au/t5...-2017-Software-Update-Weekly-Wrap/td-p/424073
JB sold an unlocked handset which I am with on the Optus network. I am on 1.95.710.3 as well. I was under the impression that HTC sends the software to unlocked devices first specifically, and then to carriers who then distribute it for the optus devices. Would I be correct in assuming that?

That's usually the case though I'm not entirely sure about the nature of our firmware (mine's the same as yours) - is it a true unbranded retail or an unlocked carrier version? I know the Moto Razr I had in the past was an unlocked Vodafone handset.

Im not sure. I would be more inclined to go unbranded retail but again, Im not certain.
Bump.
My HTC 10 is right now in the process of downloading 2.42.710.2 (1.19Gb) OTA. It's this one:
http://ausdroid.net/2017/02/27/nougat-update-htc-10-now-rolling-vodafone-customers/
Got it as well!
Installed here too.. however no live wallpapers. I personally hate all the default graphics on the HTC10 so in MM had a Sony live wallpaper which I liked.
Anyone else here have issues with live wallpapers?
