[Q] unresponsive 'flash' button in twrp 2.1.1 - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi xda-ers!
I'm trying to flash gedeROM cm9 v1.35a to my KF with FFF v1.4a and twrp v2.1.1. I'm quite sure I followed all the instructions in order of boot into recovery> wipe cache + dalvik> factory reset> install ...
everything goes pretty smoothly until I get stuck here, since I choose the ROM on the right hand side column, but the Flash button is not responsive to my touching it! everything else responses without problem. The extension after 'sdcard/' changes when I choose a different zip. I tried it with some other ROMs but it's still no luck.
Please any idea and help would be much appreciated

The "Flash button" is not really a button. It's a slider that says "Swipe to Confirm Flash" on it. That means you put your finger on the arrow and drag it over to the right to confirm.

oh man...thanks for making me feeling like a dump now ... glad you solved it. I'm new to KF anyway, and my programming knowledge didn't help much in this case identifying the 'slide to flash' function

oh but after trying, i figured out that neither touching nor sliding it to the right helps... it's just not responding to all actions! any other idea? thanks so much anyway

It's always worked for me. I don't know if TWRP actually does any checks on the zip file before it lets you confirm, but maybe you can verify the md5 checksum to make sure the download wasn't bad. Gedemis makes the md5 available on his download page.

Did you apply a theme to TWRP by any chance? The themes that worked for the previous version of TWRP seem to "break" the flash button/slider in TWRP 2.1.1.

can't get into 2.5 is stuck on bootscreen.. Running defrost 2.0f recovery doesn't work in unrevoked and not trew rommanager..
Just flashed using Unrevocked 3 and got stuck at the white HTC screen.
Left it for 5, pulled the battery and tried to enter recovery. The same again.
Pulled, rebooted to the OS and re-flashed the new Unrevoked without the custom image and I now have access to recovery 2.0.2.4.

How to root and install custom rom?

I'm a beginner, i recently asked how to install the ics leak, apparently it's seem easy, one click but i was advise to root and install cwm...
so what exactly is CWM?
can anyone give me the following guides? with the most dumbed down instruction? (like button to press, where to activate things etc.)
How to root lg android?
brief explanation of what is cwm
how to install custom rom?
- while you explain, can you explain the concept of the phone? like recovery mode does this, debugging does that.
I used to be a iphone pro, but android, i'm a noob xD .
To root, download superoneclick v2.3.2 on your computer. NOT 2.3.3 as it doesn't work. Launch it and click root. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying. It'll work eventually. Clockwork mod is a recovery mode. In your android You download rom manager in the play store, then click on it. Click flash clockwork mod recovery inside the app. It'll give u a list of devices. Select att nitro HD. Then download ho!no!s cwm flash able leak, (its in the android development section. Download that and go back to rom manager. REMEMBER YOU DO ALL THIS IN YOUR ANDROID XCEPT FOR ROOTING WITH SUPERONECLICK. Click reboot into recovery. Click on backup and restore. Click backup in that. Wait till its done. Then go back to the main menu in cwm. Click wipe data/factory reset. Then click yes. Then when its done go and click advanced. Click wipe dalvik cache. Click yes. Then press the back button. Then go to install zip from sdcard. Click choose zip from sdcard. Then click Download.locate the zip you downloaded earlier, it should be in there. Click yes. When its done, go back to the main menu and click reboot system now. Voila, you're done. Phew this took a while.

3. Download Ho!no!s cwm, umh link please? xD and do i download it straight on the phone? or do I put dl it on pc, n put it on phone, if so, what is the directory i should put it in.

Make sure you know where your .zip file is downloaded. You'll need to know where to find it while you're in CWM looking to "install .zip from SD card".
I'm still a noob as well. I've only flashed one rom so far, but I hope I've steered you in the right direction. My suggestions are what worked for me with my rom so you should be fine. If anyone sees errors in my advice please post so that we will all know.
well awesome man! thank you for making it bold and everything, really helpful. pretty much got everything sorted out now. the concept is pretty easy xD Much less hassle than iphone. btw, after flashing the cwm... how do you flash custom rom? xD lol. and which rom do you recommend? hono full throttle? seem like it got pretty good reviews.

Well I don't know if it's called "flashing" for CWM. It's more installing CWM with the ROM Manager app. Then once you've backed up your stock setup you can "flash" whichever rom zip you want to use.
I'm using CM9 RC1 because it had reviews of it being stable with everything working. I'm so new to this that I am hesitant to try all of the other roms that have bugs. I'll try one eventually though.
Hopefully you get a custom rom running today. :good:
the 1st thing you need to do is learn to use the search function. there's about 50+ threads on all of this, there's a repository of everything as well.

SuperOneClick has been known to take several attempts to complete. From everything I've read just keep trying. Some guys have had to try 20 to 30 times to get it done successfully. It sounds like a pain, but it's worth it.
So super one click may still work with the updated NITRO?

Alright I got it rooted. Now what is a good noob friendly rom? Right now I am using CyanogenMod 9 RC2 but I dont like the fact that you cant put it in usb mass storage mode. Is there any way to fix that? and the fact that you have to install the play store.

Yes, follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671050
You only have to do this once for each computer you want to use USB mass storage on. It still sucks if you want to use it for USB mass storage on other computers, but if you only use it on one or two computers it's fine.

[Q] Flashing JellyTime Gapps problem (not a noob)

Hello there.
First up, thanks to the devs of JellyTime for the awesome ROM. Secondly, I'm not a noob, though I'm not an expert either, so please be merciful but don't treat me like a 10 year old kid
Alright so here's what I did:
1. Rebooted into recovery
2. Full wipe
3. Flashed JellyTime R24
4. Flashed google apps 20121011 signed
5. Reboot
Problem: Google Apps is nowhere to be found.
So I did this:
1. Rebooted into recovery
2. Full wipe, cache, dalvik, battery, fix permissions
3. Ran ARHD Super Wipe script
4. Full wipe, cache, dalvik, battery, fix permissions AGAIN
5. (accident) Key test - couldn't back out of it so I rebooted with Vol up+down + power
6. WEIRD PART - It booted right into JellyTime! Even though I wiped it!
Not giving up - I wiped AGAIN, and reflashed JT & Gapps AGAIN - but I still can't get Google Apps on my Desire HD.
Please. If there is anyone out there that can help, I'll be super appreciative. Have been wrestling with this stupid problem for hours. Thank you.

Im not sure where it is in CWM, but you could try to look for an option that says something to do with unmounting and remounting /system as read-write. It's not the same as fixing permissions.

IT'S ALIVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
I think I know what went wrong. I suspect it was the CWM that I used, it was an old version. The last time I flashed was over a year ago, during the Froyo days. I happened to open ROM Manager, wanting to restore my old version, and it prompted me to install some ROM Manager update or something. Then when I tried again, I noticed now my CWM is different; blue text instead of green, and it showed CWM v5.x.x.x something. Just flashed and rebooted.
Play is there. Talk is there. Everything is there. FINALLY.
Thanks everyone who read. Issue solved

it doesnt have to be on the root of your device, as long as its in your storage. if its in the storage, find that location amd flash it. now what do you mean you cant exactly set it there without it turning on? you lost me there.

I meant I need to be able to have the phone fully turned on in order to move the zip over to it.

what recovery are you using? twrp has an adb sideload option, cwm might have something similar.
Just push another nightly zip over with adb, while in recovery. Simple! Don't understand what the fuss is all about.

if u made a backup for ur stock rom, then restore it.
if not, the easiest way is to reflash factory image using fastboot mode. or see my thread in signature
Pardon my noobishness, but I really would rather not unroot my phone and set it back to stock 4.1.1 unless it's my only option.
Either way, I created a backup last night but it doesn't work. When I tell it to install it says "no file found".
At this point, I'm willing to let somebody take over via viewfinder if it'll help >_>

Hi, guys, it's currently 1:36AM and I am ripping my hair out and I'm on the brink of crying because I think my HTC One M8 is bricked.
I successfully rooted my device a few hours ago and I managed to flash a GPE Rom. A notification told me to update to 4.4.3 and because of my stupidity I clicked install and it brought me to the Team Win Recovery Project v2.7.0.2 again (the page with the install, wipe, backup, restore, mount button etc). I panicked and tried the same procedure to flash my rom by wiping everything but the problem was... the GPE zip file was not there. I don't even know if I made a backup of the original sense os.
I don't have anything. I don't have the custom ROM, I don't have my sense ROM and I feel hopeless. I'm sorry for getting so emotional but I feel so confined and trapped and I seriously don't know what to do, tears are actually drenching my face.
Please, if anybody could help, I would be so so so thankful... I'm a novice and I barely know anything so really specific steps would be appreciated.
Thank you so much for reading and thank you again for helping in advance.

On the website it says to make sure device is in USB Debugging mode? I can't access that because my device has absolutely no os on it. My phone is not recognized by my computer as well when I plug it in unless adb makes a difference?

Power the phone off, turn on with power+vol down, use volume keys and power button to navigate in hboot. Go to recovery. There you can use sideload to put any ROM onto the device.
Thank you! I've been trying to find videos to make it easier on myself and i'm wondering if this video would work for my HTC One M8?

Yes the process should be the same
Thank you very much! Just a few more questions but the person in the video says to flash TWRP in the command lines but what if I already have TWRP? Can I just skip that step? And I have something called **TAMPERED** on top of my boot loader, is that dangerous?

Yes you can skip that step and tampered on top of boot loader is normal don't worry about it
Thank you so much again!!! I'm just waiting for this SDK to install so I can run the ADB shell! Hopefully this works. I will be flashing the GPE rom, hopefully there is no problem with that?

Alright. If you are able to flash the ROM and it boots up make sure to make a backup just in case something like this happens again
After you check off wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache and slide to start sideload, can you start flashing ROMS during that process? Or do you have to wait until the wiping finishes?

Wait until the wiping finishes then adb sideload
Also If you have an external sd card, you can simply put a rom on that using an sd card reader and your PC. and flash the rom from your external SD :good:
Thank you! I'm sorry for so many questions but when you open the cmd.exe, can you open it anywhere or does it have to be in the actual platform-tools file?

Via recovery of course.
This has helped me many times.

1, if you can boot into recovery, great
2, if you have an external sd with card reader for PC, great
3, power phone off and take out sd, and using card reader, put rom on external sd
4, re-insert sd card into phone and reboot into recovery using power and volume down and in hboot screen go to recovery.
5, to make sure, do a full wipe of system, data anc cache/dalvik cache
6, flash desired rom and reboot
7, should have worked and saves time not messing around with adb sideloading
Thank you Exo! I shall do this right away! Although a SD card is needed first.
And regarding the wiping and sideloading, wtfsykhang, isn't the operation together? If you go into advanced, you have to option to clear cache and clear Dalvik cache and you start that by sliding the sideloading slider.
