I am trying to flash a stock package (rooted or non rooted) through the stock recovery but am not able to get past the verification. I did it once with a rom through one of the FBXX leaks and I cant for the life of me remember which one it was, and through all manner of stock, ics recovery, etc searches i've not been able to find it, can anyone help me out with this?
Use Odin/Mobile Odin and flash el26+cwm. Boot into recovery by holding power+volume up. Wipe data/cache/dalvick and flash rom.

Cant boot into odin, only stock recovery, so it has to be a signed zip that will flash there. I have el29, el26 One clicks on the pc, but cant do **** with em without odin mode
if you can't boot to odin mode you may need to use a jig
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25310210
It is supposed to be signed, so it should work.

Just use the one click its the easiest way to use odin you do not have to boot into recovery.

If you are having problems with Odin, there are dozens of threads on that. First off is get a better cable. Then follow the directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
FWIW I've had problems with two phones and two different cables rooting EL30 with Odin and CWM5.
Here's what finally worked for me:
Odin the ACS recovery or CWM3 tar.md5 files. Most of the time when it reboots automatically, it will reboot into the recovery (with cable still attached). If it doesn't reboot into recovery, pull the cable and battery and use Odin again to reflash ACS or CWM3 until it does reboot into recovery.
Use the recovery to flash a CWM5 zip.
I can get Odin to install a CWM5 tar but it never "sticks". It always stays with the stock recovery. The only way I can get CWM5 to stick is to flash a CWM5 zip.

That's cuz on gingerbread you need to flash another kernel prior to flashing the recovery and don't have auto reboot checked after flashing the recovery just go straight into it

Thanks. I seem to recall that when I didn't have auto reboot checked it just sat there in download mode, but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. As I get older my memory isn't what it used to be. Also, as I get older, my memory isn't what it used to be.

Check this method out originaly from here,

Phone shown is different from epic, method still stands with the correct files needed, Good Luck!
I have a question about how the recovery works. So I am a bit new to this, but does anyone know how the recovery mode works on the T989. So I understand that there is a Download mode and one can use this to flash just about anything such as a kernel or an entire rom. Now what I am confused about is CWM when one installs this using this method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639673 does it overwrite the built in revovery (I actually am not sure if there is a built in recovery menu, I was looking at the ATT captivate and there is an e2/e3 recovery menu where one can flash things similary to CWM). And if it does overwrite this revocery menu is there a way to get it back? Also one more question, with odin are we able to flash CWM at all?
Thanks

Download mode is the mode you need to be in to use odin ans yes flashing CWM via odin overwrites the stock recovery allowing you to root. I would follow this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311194
Odin is a program you will need to flash your CWM recovery...and you can use Odin to revert to complete stock if needed so yes you can restore stock recovery.
Hope I helped

I downloaded the .zip file for the upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4 off CM's website, put it on my SDCARD, booted into recovery - looks like stock recovery, (following the steps on CM website) then applied the zip -> it looks like its doing something for about 20 seconds then the little android guy dies and has a red triangle with an exclamation point coming out his stomach. What am I doing wrong?
baseband version: FE10
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FD10-CL377892
You need to be using a clockwork mod recovery to flash, stock recovery will not work.
First make sure you are rooted.
Next use either Odin 1.85 or Mobile Odin to flash the EL26 kernel.
Upon reboot, go into recovery mode using volume up+power. If you miss your chance to do so, just pull the battery and try to get into recovery again.
Using CWM, flash per the install instructions.
so do i just odin the kernel back to el26 w/ CWM? the reason i dont want to do a clean install is because i wodnt want to wipe my data. If i odin to EL26 w/ CWM do i need to go back to gingerbread?? Or is there a way i can sat on ICS and upgrade?
what if i used this kernel? [NEW][KERNEL] FE16 Repack with ACS recovery

If someone tells you how to do it safely, and you choose to do it your way done come crying when you brick, because it still says don't use recovery with ics kernels...

Do exactly what he said here... You're not going back to GB or wiping data. You're just re-flashing a CWM recovery. When you originally installed CM9 alpha 3, you used a CWM recovery. But the CM9 ROM re-flashes a stock recovery (which you can not use to upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4).
So all you do is Odin the EL26 kernel/CWM recovery image (phone in Download mode), and then you reboot and hold vol+ and power to get the phone into the CWM Recovery Mode. From there, you just install the CM9 alpha4, you don't wipe data or lose anything.
thanks man, it worked.
I am new to the forums and didn't want to make a new thread. I am having issues with the GPS (Maps App.) The app loads up i enter the destination i want to go to but it wont find my location where i am at. It just keeps searching for my location...
So i went ahead and downloaded another GPS app ( tele nav.) same issue. I was wondering is there a way to fix GPS issues on this rom? I would like to fix that issue..
anyone have a solution to fixing the GPS issue on this rom???
Recently had to replace my E4GT and the new device was sent to me with FI27 firmware. I want to install Blue Kuban or something similar, however I can't get the phone to boot into recovery. I can access download mode, which I used to flash a rooted version of the stock rom, however when I try to boot into recovery (holding power and volume up) the phone displays the samsung boot screen twice then boots like normal. Can I flash to a CWM or something through Odin in download mode, to gain access to custom firmware and recovery mode? Assuming I can, is there a preferred firmware to use now?
Get the el26 kernel that had cwm recovery in it and flash thru odin .
When the phone resets pull out the battery and place it back put the phone then boot into recovery

I really appreciate the guide, and I followed it, installed odin lite, got the right apk for my phone to flash, grabbed the cwm and flashed it, however I still can't boot to recovery and obviously can no longer boot back into the rom I had. I suppose I will wait until I get home and use odin on my pc to flash, as I can access download mode. Can I use the same cwm with the pc version of odin?
Ok, so things have gone from bad to worse.
I was able to flash the stock el26 with odin and got it back to factory, after that i booted into recovery and attempted to install blu kuban (after clearing everything) and it gives me a short write error about not enough space but I have over 10gb free on the phone and 20 on the sd card. I then attempted the mobile odin steps again VERBATIM from your guide and when the phone reset it soft bricked again, however this time it wont boot into recovery or download mode and just sits at the samsung logo screen. When I plug the phone into the pc and attempt to boot into anything the charging animation just freezes on the screen. any help would be greatly appreciated.
(edit) nevermind, im an idiot. figured it out.
I apologize if this is already a thread in here somewhere, but I searched first with no luck. I have/ had a rooted galaxy note 2 done by method of the galaxy note 2 tool kit. I went and installed AOKP 4.2.2 but my sound wasn't working so I went to load a back up through CWM. after I slid the accept slider to start it went to a screen with " Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I have tried to flash the stock recovery with odin and It gets to the point of recovery, and then fails. is there a fix for this?
I have seen the videos on how to use TWRP, and CWM using the recovery mode on the phone, but it doesn't allow me to enter that mode using the volume up, power and home buttons. all I can access on the phone is the download mode through ODIN.
If u can't get into recovery then use download mode and flash a stock rom through Odin. I would use the mc2 stock tar in the development section.

if you can't enter a custom recover with the power-up+home+power combo, I suspect you don't have a custom recover installed--TWRP or CWM. Sounds like you have just the stock recovery.
I suggest trying to Toolkit and install just a custom recovery. If you do, I suggest downloading the TAR file from the recovery prefer. If you haven't used one before, I like TWRP.
If everything goes well, all you'll need to do is just flash a rom you like. won't need to be stock.
