Does anyone else get white noise (similar to a television) in the background when listening to the music player or YouTube etc using headphones? So far I've tried two pairs besides the stock (which didn't have this problem but maybe that's because the quality is so bad you can't notice) so I don't think it's the headphones that are the problem.

I'm experiencing there very same problem especially after listening to YouTube videos. Not really noticeable while listening to the music on high volume but after turning the video or music off I get a very disturbing noise in the headphones

It's a problem with the audio chip I think it happen on all roms I've tried.

Does this happen on every One X or just certain ones?

Im using a 300 dollar headphone (sennheiser) and i cant hear the noise ...
Maybe the problem are the headphones you used , try to use one whit better quality...
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Well, I've never experienced this problem when using these headphones with any other device, and as I said I have tried two different pairs. Also $300 is a lot to pay for a set of headphones.

I get the same issue, am sure others do too. One way round it is to use a bluetooth apt-x compatible adaptor I think.....
Although if others don't get it then I would like to know too, then I will send it back for a replacement!
I don't give a flying feck how expensive the earphones you use are. There is white noise at low sounds levels due to the tegra 3's useless DAC. Delusional types wont accept this tho so brace yourself for the odd pre pubescent tantrum below:
its the headphones that comes with the phone guys. Im using the HOX headphones with PC and the same thing happens on the PC. Nothing to do with the phone itself.

Oh thanks. I'll return the bundled phones then. And my SH Cx300/2's, and my Monster Beats, and my girlfriend's JVC's then.
Like I say, delusional.
This person okini obviously didn't even read my first post.

I'm getting the same thing... I don't think it just happens with headphones though. If you listen carefully to the phones speakers while playing audio you can hear it too. It's definitely more noticeable with YouTube but it's there for all audio. Really annoying. Has anyone tried playing audio through Bluetooth and do you get the same issue?

I'm considering grabbing one of these devices in a couple weeks when released on Telus. I will be using it as an mp3 player a lot and would like to know how headphones sound...has anyone compared performance to other devices such as the iPhone4? Thanks for any info.
There's been related threads about this already. Search will find them easily.

Well, pretty much the only thing I would want to change is the audio. It just sounds too flat. I got a message from HTC saying that they have to comply with EU regulations. It seems like they have a volume limit and a speaker without bass functionality.

Sound through the stock earphones is average at best, i bought a decent £40 pair of earphones and now the sound is easly on par with my mates iphone.

I use my DHD with the headphones it came with and my Sony MDR-XD100 Headphones and it sounds great.
With SRS on it sounds even better than my ipod
Hi, have you experienced this problem when you connect active external speakers to Z over 3.5 mm jack? I experienced this even when I used original HTC rom before I rooted my phone and it remains with all ROMs I tested so far including ICS based ones. This strange but unusualy strange sounds reminding big bangs are produced mainly when starting or closing some music apps. Sometimes even between tracks. It there any remedy?
Does the jack have any give to it? Aka wiggle while connected?

absolutely not-this is new HW. and it is happenig while not even touching the phone.
Are you using any sort of graphic eq or sound enhancing app? Was thinkin maybe the audio was clipping, but you stated it happens more when opening/closing audio.
Does the same thing happen with headphones?
If it does and also happens on every rom you use it sounds like defective hardware. Hope you still have a warranty

Yes this is happening when I manipulate open/close any music app. I tried several ones and it is always there. I can hear very silent clipping having normal headphones connected, so I assume my speakers are very sensitve for this. I will try different ones too. BTW my phone main board was replaced recently in warranty for different reason and I think problem was there before. Even with original board.
I'm using the stock music player and I can hear a kind of hissing sound on the earphones. The earphones are in ear earphones from creative. This problem doesnt occur with the included earphones. Any ideas why it is happening?
Sent from my HTC One V using XDA
maybe the earphone problem... try and plug the earphones in some other device and see if the problem persists

I use a pair of Panasonic in-earphones that I found in my room and I personally don't experience this problem. Try another pair perhaps?
I've been using the same earphones in my iPod without any problems. I tried another pair but still have the same problem. I guess it's got something to do with my device
we have the same problem i try 3 different earphones and i have the same problem (except the htc earphones)
As far as I know this is a common problem with the HTC One V. There has also been a detailed review about this on an indian(?) website I think.
My One V also makes these hissing sounds, regardless of the headphones I'm using, which is why I'm probably trying to get it replaced.
I don't know if this can be solved by some kind of firmware update, but at least the update from 1.56.401.1 to 1.56.401.2 did not help.
Funny Fact: The hissing changes when using the phone, so when I open some sort of menu or program, the hissing changes to a higher pitch while the processor is working more.
Mine is already at the latest version for my region. I too noticed the variation in the intensity of the sound. Maybe some kind of EM interference by the phone and the HTC earphones are shielded against it.
Sent from my HTC One V using XDA
yeah, I also think it's some sort of shielding problem. In my case not even the HTC headphones work properly.
Does anyone think this can be solved by some software upgrade in the near future or should I definitely send my One V back?
I've recently bought an HTC One x, Finally decided to get rid of my Tmob Galaxy SII. So far its been a great phone other then the battery dying quick which really isnt a problem. My Real problem is when i play music, the speaker sounds distorted as hell. It almost sounds being in a call with really low service. My question is does anyone have this problem? Is there a fix for it maybe or do i just have a busted ass speaker?

Sound is fine for me, did you flash any mods or anything that maybe broke your speakers?
HTC one x loudspeaker isn't that loud I can confirm that, I don't know about clearness although reviewers have stated it sound tinty and when you play a song is it through loudspeaker or headphone my HTC isn't that loud compared to the s2. I haven't played songs through headphone yet. I would love a tablet or phone with iPhone 4s speakers their so loud and clear they sound like a premium should do unlike HTC one x.

How can you confirm its not loud but not know about the clearness? anyway I agree its not the loudest but it is indeed clear because it doesnt go high enough to distort sound
I'm not reffering to headphones.. the beats audio enhancement is amazing with headphones. The back speaker sounds extremely distorted no matter the volume

Aren't we all haha but maybe its ROM related..? Idk just throwing out ideas here. Nandroid and flash something new to see if that'll help at all. Try a custom kernel as well if your feelin flashy
This is the third Rom iv tried. My closest idea was it has something to do with beats audio. When I disable it I get some of the distortion taken off however the music sounds ****ty :/

Evening all,
So I'm on the fence at the minute,
Short story I have the option to get the M8 in replacement for my Note 3 with multiple issues
I dont want to wait for S5 because I'm kinda fed up now with Sammy not changing their S series in design or features for that matter.
So anyway can anyone tell me how good the music is through headphones? I know the dual speakers are amazing just haven't been able to test my music through the headphone jack.
I've believe there is no equalizer on the music app? which is no off putting but I do like to mess bout abit with the sound.
any input from owners would be great!!
Cheers . .

I've played music off the SD card, Pandora and TuneIn all sounded good and plenty loud on my gaming head phones and just as well on a pair of $30 ear buds. Very happy with it here.
Cheers for you input I think I will get this as long as store has its stock . Might even try get them throw in the dot case

Just curious but what carrier is allowing you to make that switch. I'm assuming its because you've replaced the Note 3 multiple times via warranty and the issue has not been resolved...
Yeah that's right the note 3 had same issue on two different phones . . It's with phones4u but I'm with EE but essentially it's phones4u that are swapping

The headphone quality is top notch, volume is super loud, very good for headphones, bass is super punchy and clean, highs aren`t grainy, plenty of power, maybe an inline amp?, hiss is minimal, ink black on most, only trace hiss on my silver cable se535`s which is very very very good, considering they would pick up hiss on my one x+ even when the internal amp was off and no music was playing!. Did I mention the bass was good?, because its probably the best i`ve heard, at least on any mobile device.
I'm glad I'm not the only one switching from a note 3. You say punchy bass, is it similar to cyanogenmods bass boost ?

With the bundled headphones, it sounds amazing. Better than any phone I've owned IMO, and I've owned pretty much all of them at one stage or another
GSM Arena did tests and rated it as having the best audio performance of any phone...

Difficult for me to say personally as my headphones have an odd sound signature, have to install an EQ to get them sounding good.

I had a similar problem with the LG G2. First one I had had the treble was waaay too low. Installed an EQ to fix it, and just assumed that's the way it sounded.
Got another G2 two months later and it was fine out of the box.. don't think it had been updated either. Weird.
Maybe try someone else's M8 - yours may be faulty?

Thanks but its definitely the headphones, reviews made the sound signature sound cool but in reality it is unnatural, even though they were very expensive. Had the same problem with the One X but once I installed Poweramp and fiddled with the EQ they sounded great.
Ah OK

Right so just got home with my lovely new M8!
Said goodbye to my note 3 which screen size is the only thing I'm missing so far but that's it.
Audio through headphones errrmm well let's just say I had viper4android on my note and it has been beaten all over ! Fantastic quality! My headphones are only Marley branded ones so nothing high spec but I got lost In the music and just sat there while the phone did all the work!
Very pleased with this phone . . Very pure android compared to other os overlays I've experienced . .

Personally, I don't like to use any kind of equalizer.
If you rip the audio "loselessly"(not in mp4 format, mp3 spoils the quality) from the CD you bought, I think equalizer would be no needed.
As for the phone itself, the build-in music player supports flac file, it should be convenient for us, no conversion needed.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
