Hi, have you experienced this problem when you connect active external speakers to Z over 3.5 mm jack? I experienced this even when I used original HTC rom before I rooted my phone and it remains with all ROMs I tested so far including ICS based ones. This strange but unusualy strange sounds reminding big bangs are produced mainly when starting or closing some music apps. Sometimes even between tracks. It there any remedy?
Does the jack have any give to it? Aka wiggle while connected?

absolutely not-this is new HW. and it is happenig while not even touching the phone.
Are you using any sort of graphic eq or sound enhancing app? Was thinkin maybe the audio was clipping, but you stated it happens more when opening/closing audio.
Does the same thing happen with headphones?
If it does and also happens on every rom you use it sounds like defective hardware. Hope you still have a warranty

Yes this is happening when I manipulate open/close any music app. I tried several ones and it is always there. I can hear very silent clipping having normal headphones connected, so I assume my speakers are very sensitve for this. I will try different ones too. BTW my phone main board was replaced recently in warranty for different reason and I think problem was there before. Even with original board.

Does anyone else get white noise (similar to a television) in the background when listening to the music player or YouTube etc using headphones? So far I've tried two pairs besides the stock (which didn't have this problem but maybe that's because the quality is so bad you can't notice) so I don't think it's the headphones that are the problem.

I'm experiencing there very same problem especially after listening to YouTube videos. Not really noticeable while listening to the music on high volume but after turning the video or music off I get a very disturbing noise in the headphones

It's a problem with the audio chip I think it happen on all roms I've tried.

Does this happen on every One X or just certain ones?

Im using a 300 dollar headphone (sennheiser) and i cant hear the noise ...
Maybe the problem are the headphones you used , try to use one whit better quality...
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Well, I've never experienced this problem when using these headphones with any other device, and as I said I have tried two different pairs. Also $300 is a lot to pay for a set of headphones.

I get the same issue, am sure others do too. One way round it is to use a bluetooth apt-x compatible adaptor I think.....
Although if others don't get it then I would like to know too, then I will send it back for a replacement!
I don't give a flying feck how expensive the earphones you use are. There is white noise at low sounds levels due to the tegra 3's useless DAC. Delusional types wont accept this tho so brace yourself for the odd pre pubescent tantrum below:
its the headphones that comes with the phone guys. Im using the HOX headphones with PC and the same thing happens on the PC. Nothing to do with the phone itself.

Oh thanks. I'll return the bundled phones then. And my SH Cx300/2's, and my Monster Beats, and my girlfriend's JVC's then.
Like I say, delusional.

I'm getting the same thing... I don't think it just happens with headphones though. If you listen carefully to the phones speakers while playing audio you can hear it too. It's definitely more noticeable with YouTube but it's there for all audio. Really annoying. Has anyone tried playing audio through Bluetooth and do you get the same issue?
I'm using the stock music player and I can hear a kind of hissing sound on the earphones. The earphones are in ear earphones from creative. This problem doesnt occur with the included earphones. Any ideas why it is happening?
Sent from my HTC One V using XDA
maybe the earphone problem... try and plug the earphones in some other device and see if the problem persists

I use a pair of Panasonic in-earphones that I found in my room and I personally don't experience this problem. Try another pair perhaps?
I've been using the same earphones in my iPod without any problems. I tried another pair but still have the same problem. I guess it's got something to do with my device
we have the same problem i try 3 different earphones and i have the same problem (except the htc earphones)
As far as I know this is a common problem with the HTC One V. There has also been a detailed review about this on an indian(?) website I think.
My One V also makes these hissing sounds, regardless of the headphones I'm using, which is why I'm probably trying to get it replaced.
I don't know if this can be solved by some kind of firmware update, but at least the update from 1.56.401.1 to 1.56.401.2 did not help.
Funny Fact: The hissing changes when using the phone, so when I open some sort of menu or program, the hissing changes to a higher pitch while the processor is working more.
Mine is already at the latest version for my region. I too noticed the variation in the intensity of the sound. Maybe some kind of EM interference by the phone and the HTC earphones are shielded against it.
Sent from my HTC One V using XDA
yeah, I also think it's some sort of shielding problem. In my case not even the HTC headphones work properly.
Does anyone think this can be solved by some software upgrade in the near future or should I definitely send my One V back?
I've recently bought an HTC One x, Finally decided to get rid of my Tmob Galaxy SII. So far its been a great phone other then the battery dying quick which really isnt a problem. My Real problem is when i play music, the speaker sounds distorted as hell. It almost sounds being in a call with really low service. My question is does anyone have this problem? Is there a fix for it maybe or do i just have a busted ass speaker?

Sound is fine for me, did you flash any mods or anything that maybe broke your speakers?
HTC one x loudspeaker isn't that loud I can confirm that, I don't know about clearness although reviewers have stated it sound tinty and when you play a song is it through loudspeaker or headphone my HTC isn't that loud compared to the s2. I haven't played songs through headphone yet. I would love a tablet or phone with iPhone 4s speakers their so loud and clear they sound like a premium should do unlike HTC one x.

How can you confirm its not loud but not know about the clearness? anyway I agree its not the loudest but it is indeed clear because it doesnt go high enough to distort sound
I'm not reffering to headphones.. the beats audio enhancement is amazing with headphones. The back speaker sounds extremely distorted no matter the volume

Aren't we all haha but maybe its ROM related..? Idk just throwing out ideas here. Nandroid and flash something new to see if that'll help at all. Try a custom kernel as well if your feelin flashy
This is the third Rom iv tried. My closest idea was it has something to do with beats audio. When I disable it I get some of the distortion taken off however the music sounds ****ty :/

Hi there --
I'm a recent convert to the GS3 (and Android in general) from an iPhone 4. About all the music I listen to in my car was from my iPhone, and I want to do the same with my GS3, however, the sound quality from the 3.5mm jack to the AUX in on my car's deck is absolutely awful. I have to turn the volume much higher than I ever did with my iPhone or iPod, and even then the sound quality is very poor -- there is very little punch/bass in the music.
I've been researching a possible "USB car dock cable" which would allow me to get line out audio (rather than through the regular headphone jack) through the USB port on the bottom of the phone, but it seems the only solution is to buy a dock or DIY the cable yourself, nobody seems to sell them (and I'm not really willing to DIY a cable).
Any ideas what I might be able to do to improve the audio quality? I absolutely love the phone, but this is a pretty big caveat for me.
Mine sounds great, do headphones sound ok? Maybe your aux port is effed up. If that's the case exchange it ASAP. Are you rooted? Custom rom? Stock?

Headphones sound fine from my GS3, and other devices (iPhone/iPod) sound great on the same AUX jack in my car.
I am rooted running the leaked Bell Jellybean Touchwiz ROM.
Be interested to see what replies there are to this. I have the exact same problem. I find the volume is way too quiet and if I turn up the audio on my stereo I get an awful hissing noise. I have no problems on my sensation XE, only GS3. Headphones work fine so I seriously doubt its the aux port on the phone.
I have found some info that might help as your rooted.....

I'm going to try this myself tonight and see if it makes any difference:

Im running the same rom and was having the same problem. I uninstalledGoogle Play music and then it asked me to update Google Play Music even though I had uninstalled it. When I did, my sound issues were gone. I was having tje same problem in my car. Now everything's fine.

I also found that first link, but it only works on the International version of the GS3, I have the AT&T i747.
I have a 07 lexus, with an older bluetooth profile that does not allow for streaming music. I found a belkin product, caraudio connect, that will create a streaming a2dp profile through my aux port. On my s3/att/ics (stock), everything worked great. I had a profile for my phone audio and another for my media audio, and could connect both at the same time. This was great as i did not have to switch to aux for phone calls.
However, i had issues with hiss, drops, static, engine noise, etc. I had used many ground loop isolators in the RCA/car audio world, but never one on a 3.5mm stereo (double pole) connection. After adding the inline isolator from my aux port to the belkin product, my engine noise disappeared! I also found that when i updated to JB (CM10/sapir), both bluetooth profiles could operate at the same time without any interference issues on each profile.
If you have any questions on my rig, let me know.
parts:
Sorry, im new so it doesn't let me post outside links.
belkin: Part # F4U037tt
Ground loop isolator: Check out amazon, PAC Ground loop isolator for 3.5 MM applications. should be about 10 bucks.
Change roms use team insomia

Interesting topic. I've had issues with other phones where the volume couldn't be turned all the way up, as that would cause distortion. Have you tried turning your volume down a couple notches? I use my phone plugged into my car stereo all the time with zero distortion.
Could be hardware problem?

I just got the galaxy s3. Moved over from iPhone land. But am disappointed with this issue.
When I use the aux in via headphone jack and charge at the same time I get a horrible whine cracking and popping noise. This is unusual to me as I never had this issue with any of my I phones (3g and 4). This seems like a glaring oversight on Samsung part.

Hi everyone, with my headphones I'm actually having this housing sound kind of like white noise until I crank the volume to the max. For a better example any audio over headphones sounds like when you have a cassette adapter in your car and you crank your decks volume but keep the volume on your device really low.
Currently I'm running Skynote 8.2 and when I first noticed it it was stock. Then I tried the AC!D sound mod. Although I don't think it did anything but now I'm at a complete loss. I get my music through 8tracks but I also have some music on my sd card and I've noticed the hissing in YouTube videos and when I stream stuff over my network on vlc.
Attached are pictures of the headphones I have, I'll also have screen shots of the AC!D mod.
TL; DR: I hear dead people. ...

Yeah I have. I would have thought that would be the least I could try. One other thing I don't notice the white noise with my builtin speaker just from the 3.5 mm Jack output.

Well it's a bummer that it happens on stock and custom ROMs. You may have leftover files from other sound mods if you have used more than one. I know on some mods you have to make changes in your build prop and restart. I am completely stock and I tried two EQs both of those caused a white noise in Netflix. The stock EQ sounds pretty good in Google Music but does not seem to do anything for Netflix it does lack the white noise though.
Edit: Find a pair of headphones with a lower impedance like 8 or even 4 Ohms to see if that helps. I know you tried another set but maybe they had a higher impedance also.
Having the same issue with my Sony mdr headphones. Does yours also loose wifi when this happens?
