I've recently bought an HTC One x, Finally decided to get rid of my Tmob Galaxy SII. So far its been a great phone other then the battery dying quick which really isnt a problem. My Real problem is when i play music, the speaker sounds distorted as hell. It almost sounds being in a call with really low service. My question is does anyone have this problem? Is there a fix for it maybe or do i just have a busted ass speaker?

Sound is fine for me, did you flash any mods or anything that maybe broke your speakers?
HTC one x loudspeaker isn't that loud I can confirm that, I don't know about clearness although reviewers have stated it sound tinty and when you play a song is it through loudspeaker or headphone my HTC isn't that loud compared to the s2. I haven't played songs through headphone yet. I would love a tablet or phone with iPhone 4s speakers their so loud and clear they sound like a premium should do unlike HTC one x.

How can you confirm its not loud but not know about the clearness? anyway I agree its not the loudest but it is indeed clear because it doesnt go high enough to distort sound
I'm not reffering to headphones.. the beats audio enhancement is amazing with headphones. The back speaker sounds extremely distorted no matter the volume

Aren't we all haha but maybe its ROM related..? Idk just throwing out ideas here. Nandroid and flash something new to see if that'll help at all. Try a custom kernel as well if your feelin flashy
This is the third Rom iv tried. My closest idea was it has something to do with beats audio. When I disable it I get some of the distortion taken off however the music sounds ****ty :/

I was wondering from a long time, if our phones have two speakers, why is that only one is used to play music? Why can't we use the front speaker also so that we get more volume??
Is it cuz when we place our phone down either of the speakers will get covered?
Hmmm... hope I didn't answer my question!
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S running the awesome CM7!
Its because the front speaker isn't loud enough!
sent from my HTC Wildfire S running CM 7.2
Good question. But I can think of 3 reasons why not...
1. Battery (it would eat it)
2. Sound quality (its made for phone calls)
3. It's quiet (not a very loud thing anyway)

Hi,
For people who have the phone, does the beats enhancer work and does it make the sound different without using the enhancer.
I am running sense 4 light on my desire a and I went into the equaliser and it told me which headphones I was using, presumably I chose studio or solo would the original buttons on the headphones work? The volume up and down?

Yes the Beats Audio enchancer really makes the sound "richer". Beats become louder and the voices crisper. I'd say it really makes a difference especially if you have some high quality headset (Sennheiser, etc).

Don't have the beats ears, so I can't really help you on that one.
Althou considering HTC has 51 % stock in BeatsbyDre I'm pretty sure every button works fine with HTC . (Can't confirm it thou)
I use the Beats by Dr. Dre Studios with my phone.
I must say, when I play music with the HTC Music Player, it quite sucks.
I mean, it sounds pretty well, but I miss the bass.
So I've been using PowerAMP.
Great music player, and it has a bass button, which makes the bass awesome.
Sadly the HTC One X can't handle that very easily, because when I have the bass pretty high, and the volume pretty high too, it starts pushing away the high tones with kicks (Like in hardstyle music).
I didn't had this problem with my HD2.
I also had this problem a little bit with the Samsung Galaxy Note, and had it very much with the HTC ChaCha.
It could be a hardware problem, the quality of the sound module/soundcard (Or how is it called?)
But yea, in my conclusion...
It's all about personal opinions.
The HTC Music Player does not give me the bass I really want to hear from my Beats Studios.
I got my one x from Vodafone and it came with ur beats headphones I must say the sound quality is very nice crisp and clear
I don't no why people would use anything else to play music for me the beats audio is so nice to listen to I wouldn't use anything else.

Audio is all down to personal preference, I personally don't like the sound from beats headphones compared to my shure 535's. I done a test today, same song on the one x, my Sony Walkman and the wife's iPod, all set to the best sound I could get out of them at the same volume. The Sony Walkman was by far the best, much more bass than the other 2, very little difference between 2ND and 3rd but one x just wins.
Saying that I love the one x thoroughly!
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
my one x came with beats ear phones (urbeats) and i think they are amazing and the beats enhancer with the head phones is a big improvement over the normal equalizers but the beats speaker on the phone is abit of a let down shame really but loving the ear phones.
Does anyone else get white noise (similar to a television) in the background when listening to the music player or YouTube etc using headphones? So far I've tried two pairs besides the stock (which didn't have this problem but maybe that's because the quality is so bad you can't notice) so I don't think it's the headphones that are the problem.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I'm experiencing there very same problem especially after listening to YouTube videos. Not really noticeable while listening to the music on high volume but after turning the video or music off I get a very disturbing noise in the headphones

It's a problem with the audio chip I think it happen on all roms I've tried.

Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Im using a 300 dollar headphone (sennheiser) and i cant hear the noise ...
Maybe the problem are the headphones you used , try to use one whit better quality...
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Well, I've never experienced this problem when using these headphones with any other device, and as I said I have tried two different pairs. Also $300 is a lot to pay for a set of headphones.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I get the same issue, am sure others do too. One way round it is to use a bluetooth apt-x compatible adaptor I think.....
Although if others don't get it then I would like to know too, then I will send it back for a replacement!
I don't give a flying feck how expensive the earphones you use are. There is white noise at low sounds levels due to the tegra 3's useless DAC. Delusional types wont accept this tho so brace yourself for the odd pre pubescent tantrum below:
its the headphones that comes with the phone guys. Im using the HOX headphones with PC and the same thing happens on the PC. Nothing to do with the phone itself.

I'm getting the same thing... I don't think it just happens with headphones though. If you listen carefully to the phones speakers while playing audio you can hear it too. It's definitely more noticeable with YouTube but it's there for all audio. Really annoying. Has anyone tried playing audio through Bluetooth and do you get the same issue?
Someone i know wants to swap their htc one for my SGS4 ,
they dont listen to music a lot and i do EVERY day so my question is is the beats audio as good as everyone raves on about?
and do you reckon thats a fair swap
I suggest watching this first, but what makes the HTC One better isn't beats but the actual speakers on the phone.

Yeah I've looked on YouTube but it's not really a good comparison. Only thing that puts me off is the camera
I don't have a comparison of the S4 to the one, but I did just upgrade from S3 to the One about a week ago and I do think the sound from the One's speakers is a whole lot better than any other phone I've owned or heard. I don't like beats audio though. I actually turned it off because it seemed to bring too much bass through and distorts the sound quite a bit. With beats turned off the phone sounds very very good, imo, and sounds amazing for a phone. Another note is I haven't listened to any music with headphones, only with the phone's speakers, so I don't know how beats would sound using headphones.
Hope that helps.
maak
I listen to the HTC One a lot with headphones and I keep the beats audio off. I have noticed with the beats audio ON there is a hiss in the background that takes away from the music a bit. For just the speakers, the beats audio on or off both sound really good. Hope this helped!
@Khixar27 It is done
I traded my S4 for an HTC One about 3 months ago. No regrets. Haven't looked back once.

I usually leave it on when I'm listening to music or audio of any kind through the speakers. Haven't done much headphone testing but I don't remember being excited about BeatsAudio through headphones.
It's nothing more than an overhyped equalizer setting. This guy explains it pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdbn_pmxFic
The thing is, when you turn it off, it doesn't actually turn off. It adjusts the equalizer in the opposite direction instead, so you get artificially degraded sound. A pretty sneaky way to make you think Beats makes your music sound better.
This is what I have told people for years about beats. There's nothing special about it that its just an eq setting which you can recreate with any DSP type app we have seen out for a while and quite honestly make it sound better. Beats is for (I hate to say it) for lazy people that doesn't want to take the time to setup an eq setting.

Check out this review , htc one is the best audio device on the market.
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one-review-912p7.php
"This is the second smartphone in a row where HTC makes the Beats audio logo stand for something other than a simple equalizer.."
And i've tested several phones personally such as xperia z , s4 , apple 5s , htc one in my car. (bang & olufsen sound system) - incredible quality.
While on my friend's stock honda sounds horrible , so it depends on a quality of you stereo or headphones.

This is true but using other DSP apps while running aosp ROMs on this phone have gotten better sounds than what beats could produce. Beats is just a general eq setting no more no less. Most likely they did a study on the eq settings and this setting that's in the phone now is what the general population agreed on. Me myself can enjoy beats setting but there are times I like to fine tune it more.

I use the power amp on my HTC and used it on my galaxy s, 10 band equalizer appears to sound good.
It definitely sounds better on the One with Beats enabled, but the external speaker volume takes a pretty big hit with Beats on. I usually end up leaving it on for music, but turn it off whenever I'm watching a video. I think just as good or better sound with better volume can be achieved with DSP or Power Amp.

BEATS
They are over rated. With the auto adjustment part it makes the music sound weird like its fading in and out. thats the most annoying part. so i leave beats off.
As said before it's nothing but an equalizer. It does sound great under most conditions but it's nothing that should make or break your decision on getting the phone as just about any audio app(and other custom ROMs) can do the same.
I probably wouldn't consider myself a picky audiophile by any means but I think the stereo speakers on the One are most of the difference I hear. My audio app is Poweramp which has a really nice EQ built in. I prefer to tweak that over enabling Beats. Beats sounds over processed to me. Even running AOKP, the first time I had a notification while I held the phone had me startled with the clarity and volume of the sound... and that was without Beats obviously.
Beats just sounds like a bass boost to me. Which I'm okay with or without.

Evening all,
So I'm on the fence at the minute,
Short story I have the option to get the M8 in replacement for my Note 3 with multiple issues
I dont want to wait for S5 because I'm kinda fed up now with Sammy not changing their S series in design or features for that matter.
So anyway can anyone tell me how good the music is through headphones? I know the dual speakers are amazing just haven't been able to test my music through the headphone jack.
I've believe there is no equalizer on the music app? which is no off putting but I do like to mess bout abit with the sound.
any input from owners would be great!!
Cheers . .

I've played music off the SD card, Pandora and TuneIn all sounded good and plenty loud on my gaming head phones and just as well on a pair of $30 ear buds. Very happy with it here.

Just curious but what carrier is allowing you to make that switch. I'm assuming its because you've replaced the Note 3 multiple times via warranty and the issue has not been resolved...

The headphone quality is top notch, volume is super loud, very good for headphones, bass is super punchy and clean, highs aren`t grainy, plenty of power, maybe an inline amp?, hiss is minimal, ink black on most, only trace hiss on my silver cable se535`s which is very very very good, considering they would pick up hiss on my one x+ even when the internal amp was off and no music was playing!. Did I mention the bass was good?, because its probably the best i`ve heard, at least on any mobile device.
I'm glad I'm not the only one switching from a note 3. You say punchy bass, is it similar to cyanogenmods bass boost ?

I had a similar problem with the LG G2. First one I had had the treble was waaay too low. Installed an EQ to fix it, and just assumed that's the way it sounded.
Got another G2 two months later and it was fine out of the box.. don't think it had been updated either. Weird.
Maybe try someone else's M8 - yours may be faulty?

Thanks but its definitely the headphones, reviews made the sound signature sound cool but in reality it is unnatural, even though they were very expensive. Had the same problem with the One X but once I installed Poweramp and fiddled with the EQ they sounded great.

Personally, I don't like to use any kind of equalizer.
If you rip the audio "loselessly"(not in mp4 format, mp3 spoils the quality) from the CD you bought, I think equalizer would be no needed.
As for the phone itself, the build-in music player supports flac file, it should be convenient for us, no conversion needed.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
