[Q] GPS Fix for ICS leaked builds? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just flashed the FE10 ICS ROM and now my GPS will not lock. Is the only work around is to flash the EL26, turn GPS on, get a lock, leave it on, then flash back the FE10?

I flashed the same rom from sfhub
And gps locked very quickly 20 meters and i was inside my apartment. So i think you should reflash fresh .

There is another possible fix that worked for me and a few others, but not everybody. Download fasterfix and gpsfix and run them in that order. I did this on Blend 2.1 and have never lost my 2 second lock, but again this hasn't worked for everybody.

Hmm i get great gps on ics. I can even get a lock from my bathroom which has no windows lol. It's better than el29 gps. Try clearing agps and updating it using gps test followed with a reboot.

[q] gps fb21

Is there any way possible to get the gps working on fb21 modem? im running a el29 rom from calk 2.9.1.... there was a fix for the el29 kernel that worked...Im new to the e4gt, only had it for less than 1 week... on the evo they had gps drivers you could flash in recovery that solved this issue....
U want to be on el29. Get a good GPS lock and then boot into recovery and flash the fb21 rom. It works. We used to do it on the original epic. That's how I got my gps to work. Good luck. Just make sure u have a good lock and don't turn off gps. Just boot into recovery, wipe everything and flash. Gps will work

I did this trick when flashing fb21 on dark ics my gps locks to about 15 ft from me so i can verify it works its locked in my backyard and im sitting on the couch which is against the back wall of my house my icon is even facing the same direction as my phone in a straight line from where im sitting just about 15 ft outside of the house which is pretty damn accurate
Edit: i flashed the fb21 modem on dark ics to clarify i was getting crap data on EL29 went from 100kbps to 1mbps on fb21 btw

Just wondering. Should i be on a el29 rom or modem or just a rom before i try flashing an fb21 rom to fix the gps?
Use the el29 modem the fb21 modem is what controls gps so u need to lock on el29 then flash fb21 i changed the modem only had to flash back to el29 lock gps and reflash fb21 to get my gps to lock better it was locking about 2 or 3 miles away prior to doing the fix now it locks within 15 ft when im indoors anf almost right on top of me outdoors

First try GPS status. Get it from the market. Once you open, hit menu, tools, manage a-GPS, reset. Then go back to manage a-gps, and hit download. wait for a gps sat lock

If you decide on trying the gps fix you will need to do it through the temp bml cwm5.

Just tried this on build 29. Got 0/2 fix/sats. Haven't had to use GPS for anything in a while, but yeah, its not working very well. I tried navigation also, and it just sits on searching for GPS.

Got 11 out of 11 satellites and fix to 3 ft! The CIA can find me easily now! I installed the gps fix on CleanGB before CM9 or AOKP and it seems to have stuck. If you can't get it working you may have to go the Odin route, make sure it works, leave it on, root and flash AOKP.

You need to do it on mtd and.mount system first. CM9/AOKP already use these gps drivers so there is no point.

GPS doesn't work?

I am running CM9 beta 1 and GPS doesn't work. Before this, I was running CM9 nightly 6/17 and GPS didn't work then, either. When upgrading to the beta, I did a full Darkside wipe with cache cleaned properly, etc. I even reflashed UVLE1 radio, and flashed TDJ's venom kernel. GPS still does not lock. It's not an issue of my case because it does not work when I remove my case, either.
Any help?

Definitely agree as well as quite a few documented steps to gain GPS located throughout the web and these forums. I believe there is a thread for return to stock which can help you achieve gps lock, apps on the market that can help you achieve GPS lock and my best friend Google than can help you get GPS lock
Now so people dont think I am a bad guy here are some links

Have you downloaded GPS Status from the market? Download that and it will allow you to see how many sats are available and how many you are locked on to.
It doesn't show any satellite data; I don't even think GPS was functioning there at all

GPS fix? AOKP maybe cm9 ics

First of all I'm on AOKP 715 m6. My gps was nonexistent even though it was good on earlier versions. I was running a modded vle radio which i don't remember the source. Anyways, i flashed tdj's modded vle radio in one of his threads and gps initial locked on in less than 5 mins. It then locks on in less than a min after that.
At first i thought it was the kernel, so i flashed different ones, but no changes. however the radio definitely fixed it for me on AOKP.
So to those with gps problems try flashing tdj's modded radios. Sorry for being lazy on my phone and not linking them.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
This was discussed months ago. Its the basic reason modded radios were made. Apparently the RILS break GPS. So yes GPS won't work unless you flash one of the modded radios, as you found out by accident lol.

I am not using a modded radio I am using the one that came with the ics official update uvle1. And I am running AOKP M6 7-15. My GPS is the best it has ever been I get instant locks even indoors. And It is accurate too. I have also used other roms and had the same results.

yeah i remembered that discussion, and I flashed a modded radio and it worked for most ROMs. I was then really bothered that my uber great locking GPS was no more... I seriously thought I flashed TDJ's radio because I had a file with the same name in my sd card. So I was bummed and decided to test kernels because thats like testing 2 things at once lol. But yeah I ended up checking the md5 of the modded radio i had on my sd card and it turns out it wasn't the same. Must have gotten it from a different thread even though the file name was the same.
But yeah it's just a little reminder to those who have GPS problems, that even though you may think you have a perfectly working radio... you should just flash TDJ's radio mods just in case.
Just flashed TDJ's modded UCLE1 radio...still no luck with GPS

What do you guys mean when you say "breaks GPS"? I am trying to determine if my problem is similar to yours.
My problem is not really an issue with the GPS but an issue with Google Maps. When I use navigation from point A to point B, say Schaumburg to Chicago, it'll always speak directions as if it's going from point B to point A, although all the on-screen directions are correct.
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, but have not yet tested to see if that fixed it.

Yes this is what I have to do every time I flash a ROM and GPS breaks. I made a thread about it and there are also 2 more threads. Its a zip file you flash through cwm. Also people don't forget that if you're on cyanogenmod that you have to go into location services, GPS source and tick "use internal GPS". Or else GPS will barely work.

didn't know he had a ucle1 radio, he has a uvle1 radio though maybe try that one.
If it is the first time you're trying to lock on, it might take a while, you should turn off wifi and data while leaving your GPS on. Stand outside with it on for 5-10 mins or so, it should get a lock on. After that your GPS locks quicker the more frequent you use it.
I think a lot of people would expect GPS to lock on right away, this only happens if your phone has recent locks to the GPS. I find it best with wifi and data off and to just leave the gps on and google maps on.
btw i've tried the AGPS patch before, but if you have a crappy radio it still won't connect lol.
Here's the screenshot without data or wifi. This is inside my house. Notice the gps signal has a constant dot in the middle, i know for aokp this means i have locked on.probably the same for cm, not sure about tw, haven't been on that for a month.
Anyways it has went as low as 4m, so pretty good. This is without apply the patch.

GPS lock issue with JB

I'm not getting a good GPS lock after updating to JB from stock ICS. I tried Waze, Google map, and Navigon. None of these work. This happens sporadically not on a consistent basis. I also found that resetting the phone helped briefly but then I lose signal again later. My lte icon is at full bar.

gps test
I just updated (downloaded from sammobile then Odin) on stock unrooted AT&T device. My GPS locks in just fine, sitting still in my house. Not sure what its like while moving...
I just tested mine using GPS Test. I stepped outside of my office building, started the app, and the GPS locked on in about 1-2 seconds. This is better performance than I was getting before on ICS (it would usually take 8-10 seconds to lock on). FWIW, I updated to JB using the pre-rooted file from Mr. Robinson's thread via Odin.
Gps not showing sats is discussed in development forum.

G3 on Rogers here. I flashed my update with Odin and I've rooted. My GPS locks on in 1 to 2 seconds.
Navigon worked fine w/ gps the past couple of days. Have had no issues after upgrading to jb
I am completely stock on jb and get great lock. I am sitting inside a building and get a gps lock.
I am loosing gps even after wiping after the update. It locks fine after about a 15 mile drive it dropped amd would show the gps icon anymore. Had to reboot. And it started working again. Maybe 4.1.2 will fix it

This is exactly what I'm experiencing. Only rebooting will fix the problem but it would lose the lock again in a few minutes/miles later.

I used to use the FasterGPS app to set my GPS servers based on NTP with ICS. In JB, I actually find it locks faster if I don't use FasterGPS to update gps.conf. Stock rooted JB AT&T (Mr. Robinson).

I'm having difficulties now as well. AT&T, just got the 4.1.1 upgrade yesterday. I checked my GPS this morning and nothing. No satellites, no lock, nothing. Loaded up GMaps an it is only getting a triangulation off the cell towers, no satellite lock either.
I'm going to test again this afternoon when I'm outdoors and try again.
4.0.1 had lightning fast GPS locks, so this is very odd for it to be so slow. Previously, I'd simply press GPS and before I could get into Maps I'd already have a lock.
It happen again today. It seems to be around every 15 miles or so. Its spot on leading up to the dropout.

Anybody figure out how to fix the gps issue? I downgraded to ics and updated to jb again and no luck. Also I am having WiFi dropping out and data dropping only can be fixed by enabling and disabling airplane mode. When the GPS is working the locks are instant and spot on.
