USB Transfer Problems - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi! I'm sitting here with my cousins brand new GNex. I rooted and unlocked it. So now obviously, I want to get a new ROM and Kernel on this sucker. Only problem is I have NO way of putting files on the phone. When I plug it in via USB I got prompted with two USB methods, MTP and PTP. With MTP whenever I try to put a file (including the ZIPs...) I will get a message saying the file isn't compatible with WMP, blah blah. Then it tells me to "Skip" the file or "Skip All". So I have to skip... Then the file is not copied to my phone (because I was forced to slip copying it...). With PTP I can't even drag a file onto the phone... It just won't let me. I just want to put the ZIP files on this phone so I can flash them... How can/do I do that?
Missing the 'old' USB transferring...

K, so. The GNex is confusing. I found a work around... You can rename (in MTP transfering) the file to whatever... *.mp3*, and then rename the file with the proper extension afterwards.

Unroot/Re-lock with mobileOdin

I've become unable to charge my phone or have it recognized by any computer, leading me to think the USB connector on the bottom is perhaps damaged. My warranty replacement came today, but unfortunately, I'm rooted/unlocked.
A great suggestion was made to try flashing the firmware back on the phone with mobileOdin, which I downloaded. This is a little above my expertise level.
Just to be clear before I attempt it - I found a file here (http://www.galaxynexusforum.com/for...hi515-factoryodin-icl53f-4-0-2-7z-needed.html) that's a .7z
If I get the .7z file on my phone with dropbox and then open it with mobileOdin, will that return me to bone-stock?
Thanks very much for any suggestions!
Update - mobileOdin doesn't seem to recognize the .7z file that I was able to get onto the SD card with dropbox. Any suggestions? What file type does mobildODIN recognize, and does anybody know where I can find it?
Update Update - odin worked! but unfortunately the phone is still unlocked! any way to fix that before I ship the phone back?
Theres a similar thread here and apparently it turned out that there is no way to lock the bootloader without being able to connect to a pc (or mac)

[Q] How do you transfer data from the phone to computer via USB Cable

I have no option for usb data transfer. Just MTP and PTP. When trying to drag and drop I get "Calculating the time required to copy the files". It copies nothing.
Airdroid, wifi explorer, kies doesnt transfer a damn thing.
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!
Make sure that your drivers have been installed properly, first off (I think this is a big problem for a lot of ppl). And on the phone, in Settings > Storage > Menu > Computer Connection > "Media device (MTP)" is checked. (I also believe unchecking "USB Debugging" in Developer options can help, too).
If your drivers are set up, you should get a prompt (assuming you're on Windows 7) to "open folder and view files" and you'll get an Explorer window. Just drag/drop files on the device.
You can also use a WiFi FTP transfer app (I wanna say AirDroid is a popular one?). Some prefer it this way.
How can you tell if the drivers have been installed properly?
I can drag and drop one file at a time but nothing more

If you plug your phone in and don't get an error. And in device manager it should show up as "Galaxy Nexus" or "Samsung Galaxy Nexus".

Sounds like a possible issue with your setup. I just recently re-installed a fresh 32bit Windows 7 install on my MacBookPro, and without any driver tweaking or anything I was able to connect and drag/drop files back and forth.
I do have issues with my desktop and plan on wiping it.

MTP can be finnicky but there's no technical reason why it can't work just fine (as I said it works perfectly for me and others here).
Have you tried something like AirDroid (linked above)? Or if you're just sitting on WiFi you can always just upload to DropBox (Google Drive) and download on the phone/PC.
airdroid hasnt worked for me. I'm not positive but I think there are certain files that won't transfer via cloud.

Should be able to transfer anything. Don't see any restrictions to it.
Is your Kies properly Installed?
Hi,
If your Samsung Kies was properly installed (means took quite time for installing Driver for Samsung devices). Your phone should be detected once connected via USB cable. Some devices may have different situations. Exp. file transfer in SamsungGalaxyTab10.1 will not display exact time for file transfer Window. Once device connected via USB cable, and Your device's Name Pops Up in your window, means it's successful. Transfer shd not be problem.
Sometimes, Phone may not the cause, perhaps ur Pc/laptop might limited capability for Kies Support.
If your case is different, perhaps you can uninstalled and reinstalled it in control panel. Uninstalling Kies will not remove ur Phone's Driver data. Hope this Helps.
Sincerely,
whitefang
**** takes forever to transfer via usb. is this a known issue on the nexus or just me? I have never had a phone with issues in transfering data. I'll give a clous service a try again. I appreciate your help

It's a known "issue" that people have really funky PC setups and have issues installing drivers. It's not inherently a technological problem with MTP or the Galaxy Nexus. As I said before, it's just a bit more finnicky than USB Mass Storage (UMS), which is used on most other phones.
I'll keep referring to the fact that on a bare Windows 7 install, with no previously installed drivers, I was able to plug in my Galaxy Nexus, auto-install drivers, and xfer files back/forth without a hiccup... that'll give you an idea for where the problem lies
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523691 try this it has wifi sync using it all the time
ive got windows 7 ultimate, no issues, works as it should

Like martonikaj said, you should be able to transfer everything wirelessly. It's probably your fastest bet.
I either do that, or use ADB. While it's not as fast, I find it to be more stable than MTP (but that could be just me).
I assume download files as a zip and then open them on the pc? I assume all I would have to transfer would be titanium backup since it contains all app and system data. I know some of my questions might seem silly but i want to make sure i dont loose any data.
I've tried downloading the samsung drivers on 3 different pc with 3 different operating systems and cant get the drivers to properly load. I'm a little upset with Samsung at the moment. I never had a problem wit HTC or Moto phones.
you can use Alt Mounter app on mac & windows
go to goole & search it
then download AltMounter.apk & install it to your phone
then download altmounter for windows & install it to your pc
after that run altmounter in your pc & also run altmounter in your phone
after that plug the usb cable . the phone storage shows up in a window
this is verys simple & i like it
you can use it if you have problems with MTP
I'll give it a shot, thanks!

[Q] USB Connection to PC breaks and cache is wrong

A bit cryptic header, but here's the problem:
Used the PC driver from the Toolkit.
USB error/test is enabled.
ROM: Probam 4.4.6
When I connect to my PC via USB, I can see the device in my explorer. I can copy files from/to the Note 2. But somehow it suddenly won't react anymore. It still is connected, but the files stop copying.
When I disconnect and reconnect the cable the device is found again and file copy can be restarted. But, when I change anything on the device, it just looks like the file structure is cached.
So, removing a file on the device itself won't be reflected on the PC. When I try to copy a file to the device which was previously removed on the device (and still visible on PC), the file copy will give an error, I suspect because it cannot find the file on the device.
Does anyone has a solution for this?

Unable to transfer files from pc via usb

Hi
I'm quite new to rooting and playing around with roms and kernels. Usually whenever I install a rom on my phone I usually download it on my computer then transfer the zip file into my phone via usb. I noticed a new rom had been released for the P8000 (nexus) and i wanted to try it out so I downloaded it on my pc but I was not able to transfer onto my phone. I got an error message on my pc saying 'could not transfer file, device may have been unplugged or is not responding'. The device certainly was not unplugged as the phone was still charging and I was able to continue browsing through my phone's files.
Have not connected a phone to a pc in ages.. Use droid over wifi!
dunno why that should be but why not just d/l directly with your phone? that's what I tend to do as it's faster than wifi transfer and my pc drivers don't seem to work with my p8000 either so can't connect to pc.
try to enable usb debugging (or disable). i had this some times ago with a samsung phone. connection option als camera could help maybe too.
regards
Maxon

No Camera Folder When Connected to PC

Wondering if anyone else has this issue, but when I connect my phone as either MTP, PTP or MIDI; I cannot access or see the DCIM\Camera folder. If I try to navigate to it "Computer\Nexus 5X\Internal storage\DCIM\Camera", I get an error saying Windows cannot find the folder. I have tried turning Debugging on and off, but it didn't make a difference. I've also tried showing hidden files and system files in Windows, but nothing shows up in the DCIM folder.
Apps like EZ File Explorer and Quick Pic can access this folder just fine, but Windows cannot. Any Ideas?
Running the January Update with TWRP, SuperSU v2.65 flashed and Xposed flashed.

Ok, this might be a little too standard but just to confirm, after you connect to PC, do you unlock your phone? (if you have your phone locked). If not, unlock your phone after connecting to the PC and check whether you can now access. Cheers:good:
