a new problem , now the touch isnt responding
:/

Ever try pulling the battery and holding power button for 30 seconds?
Could be the digitizer isn't working, or worse, the ribbon cable is beginning to fail.

She gonna die, mate
I am going to be honest with you dude, some time ago I also noticed that my touchscreen wasn't responding, but like PoXFreak said a battery pull did to trick to get that ***** going again. But now, after roughly two months, the "Kaiser" is really his age, I believe it's time for you to make the arregements for the Kaiser's last days, because they are closing in on you....

hmm......I think i am buying a new one
HTC one X or Motorola Defy + ?
Open to suggestions... :/

There are lots of options, question is which do you need?
Slide-out keyboard? (Droid, Rezound,etc.)
Good development platform? (Samsung and HTC)
Screen size? (Infuse, Galaxy Note, etc.)
Processor speed? (Rezound, Galaxy SII, etc.)
It all boils down to what you want and what you would be willing to give up.
DON'T base your choice on other peoples reviews, as they are not "you" and don't even think like you. I found this out a long time ago with a Blackberry...

Back to Galaxy Note after 2 weeks of using HOX

Hey guys, this is not a QQ post like many others, just wanted to point out some things , 1 week ago i sent my galaxy note for repair and got HTC ONE X instead, the phone was running quite nice i have to say it was unbranded one even tho it was bought from Vodafone in Czech Republic, i received both OTAs immediately after the release. The phone itself have really beautifull design i have to say its probably the best looking phone right now but the issues it have thats just bollox, i had flickering when the brightness was on the lowest settings which i didnt use anyway but it was there, battery on this device is just i dont know, htc is boasting with Nvidia Tegra but come on, 20-30 minutes of playing and ur phone is dead, standby battery life is quite nice and it would last for 2-3 days but when u turn the screen on you can just see the battery goin down, which is quite disturbing i got to the point when i was really scared to even turn it on This morning i found a thread here about missing storage so i was like hey ill give it a go aswell, and boom 3gb missing, i know u can format ur card and stuff but seriously, if it would have microSD slot people would not complain that much but having to copy all data over and over again if u do the mistake and pull the device out without removing it safely its just lol. I know the device is new and there are always issues with it, but come on my note didnt have so many issues, and the ones htc is experiencing that are not just minor problems, its facing construction problems, overheating , battery drainage screen flickering, lagging tegra games and maybe even others. I was really sad to return the phone but come on, i spent around 600 euro on it and i would expect some kind of level. Im back to my note now, and tbh im just gonna wait for S3 to test it out and see, i know new phones always have issues but HTC should have waited with the release of ONE X to make it perfect phone, its beautifull designed, it has gorgeous display, nice camera but the issues are letting it down.
what i am not getting is....
You sent your Note for repair and got the HOX, was this a temporary solution? As you say you spent 600 euro on the HOX but now you have your Note back.............very confusing.

nope i wanted to sell Note when it got back from repair and keep the HOX but today when i got the call from the store that my note is repaired i changed my mind and returned hox, cause i dont really have time to sort issues htc should have sorted for us, just imagine people who dont read these forums and face issues hox have ? they are not gonna fix them by themselves, the phone should be in stage where you shouldnt really tweak the system and stuff to be able to use the phone normally, this forums right now is just filled with people who are assuring themselves they did the right choice of buying this phone, i see people saying they returned the phone 4-5 times, that doesnt feel right tbh
you sent note for repair, bought a HOX for 600 and now you are selling your HOX? I will give you twenty quid for it.
Seriously, you are moaning about the HOX but you havent had any issues but you are scared of what you read on here........
By the way, why was your Note in for "repair"?
My HOX has been fine, no issues whatsoever, i reckon you are one of these people that when you are ill with a simple cold, you type it in to google and end up worrying you have cancer.
The point is, I am not unlocked and of course still running on completely stock rom and never experience any issue mentioned here and there.
Dont get me wrong, I used to have Desire, Incredible S, Sensation, EVO 3D and I was first to apply S-OFF/unlock back in the days and did loads of mods to them, but H1X is just simply better, so flawless that I still have no intention to unlock.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA

I lost around 3gb of space on the phone memory, when i pressed the screen on edges you could just feel how the display goes down a little bit + it made the purple **** on the edges, battery was just horrible when u used the phone i cant even imagine ur traveling somewhere and play something for 30 mins that would just kill the battery, i lost around 40 percent of battery life just by downloading The Dark Meadow data with the screen on, which took around 10 minutes, thats not normal if u ask me, and no im not selling it i just returned it in the 2 weeks period, why u blame me i dont get i just pointed out some things i didnt like, but honestly im not gonna transfer all my data to pc format my card every single time i loose some space, theres few flawless devices out there if it would be the one i had i would keep it but with so many issues i rather gave up on it
to be perfectly honest, i don't blame you if you had the flex and screen issues, it drives you mad! the screen lamination issues are a total disgrace
HTC better sort this and quickly
funny some people are still in denial around here, would you like to suggest to someone in your family getting a HOX and struggling like the rest of us with defects?
The phone is amazing but we need to pressure HTC to sort this out quick and most important never box devices in such state! if you are fan of HTC you should care about this
never seen this much drama on the Desire HD forum during release, i'm sorry ask anyone with a DHD

To be honest i was really sad to return it back, my intention was to keep the phone, but right now untill they sort their mess i would not recommend it, i dont say all units are faulty, but most of them is, i was having Desire HD for 1 year and it was perfect device, apart from battery The HOX is really gorgeous i had a white one, the camera was pleasure to use, got some nice pics from it, display i wont even compare it to my note, its totally different league, but the issues i was haivng with it just drove me crazy, not to mention camera lens getting scratches really easy, and yes i was using the case and i wasnt even wearing it in jeans or anything, im really carefull when it gets to phones, i might actually buy it again when they sort these issues, but right now it was a no for me
no denail here, phone is perfect and if you have one of the issues then that is unfortunate, but the OP seems to be making mountain out of a molehill and all this while his Note was broken.

First, learn to use paragraphs to separate your thoughts. Streams of consciousness are difficult to comprehend.
Second, do you believe everything you read? I posted some comments in the SD card thread before the Chinese tree monkeys spun it out of control. The 3GB isn't missing; it's in protected space that CHKDSK can't read. It's because HTC's using a different method of managing storage. It's why the One X shows up as "mass storage" device and not "MTP" like other ICS devices. The XL has only 16GB of memory. Don't you think the people on their forum are smart enough to notice if 2/3 was missing the way people are claiming here?
If I get a SGS3 it'll be to get away from posts like this and the random and pointless crisis posts on this forum.

But all i can gather is your HOX had 3gb missing (which it isnt) and when you leave the battery on playing games it drains the battery. Everything else you have only read about it.

I'm loving my HOXL so far, battery is better than my iPhone and any other android device I've ever owned.. That in itself is astounding considering the screen / resolution.

Thinking to let go T_T

Dear all ....
i have always been a HTC phone fan since day one i own my first HTC Legend then down to incredible S and to this One X... among all, the worst i had experience was the One X. I have it exchange for 3 time already in 6 month times and seeing the 4th unit coming the way. No doubt HTC Malaysia has done a good job by keep on replacing a brand new out off the box unit for me but it does not really solve my problem and my bad experience on the One X at all .
1st unit - Wifi issue, have to press the right top part of the screen in order to get full Wifi Signal eventho i'm sitting next to a router
2nd unit - Random system restart , very often drop call with a message saying preparing sim card , battery can only last you like 5 hours but on any other day it preforming very good , phone auto turn off indicating battery low eventho it clearly said remaining 20% to 40% battery life
3th unit ( current unit ) Drop call with preparing sim card message randomly will come out on the screen , Wifi issue , same problem with above have to press the right top of the screen in order to get good Wifi signal , out of the box the screen have a small patch around the size of 1 to 2 mm of something similar to dead pixel but it does not look like one
i love the One X a lot .. but with all this problem keep on coming i was thinking is it time i should have give up on this particular model and move on with some other phone ? is there anyone which is used to be or still a One X user care to share me what you think about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus ? was it a good phone to try out ?
Else I'm afraid that if i got my 4th sets replacement i might have encounter some other problematic symptom again. Is it wise for me to write to HTC to complain ? would it help at all ?
Thanks for your advice
Gnex is a step down imo. Inferior screen, worse camera, etc etc only good thing about it is that it will receive updates quicker than anyone else due to it being a Nexus phone!
Keep trying until you get a fully working unit. There is nothing at the moment that tops the HOX apart from the SGS3 which is just as good.
i went through 6 of them. on my 7th, its finally working now. thank the lord
im glad i waited until i got a working one. i love this phone, was totally worth holding out.
now everything works properly it is simply brilliant! wifi is fantastic, i was walking down the road, and about 100m from my house, the wifi connected! with a weak signal admittedly, but it was still connected!
my old dhd would disconnect as soon as i walk out the door...
trust me, keep replacing until you get a good one. even the iphone 5 released 5 months after hox is inferior spec-wise
Wow and i taught that i was the only person that keep on swapping until you came alone ! ! will take your advice for it

Ya, I know how you feel, I've got the same wifi isue, Problem is, I bought my phone
in another country so, I can't swap it like you guys
HTC really disspointed me with this problem. I've contected they're support and they
say I can ship it to them for fix for 30euros. (and wait 6-7 weeks!!)
after the HOX I think I'm done with HTC.
Actually i had the same issue with you ... i got mine from another country as well but lucky i can get someone to send it back for me every 1 or 2 month times

Whatever you do, don't go for the galaxy nexus. I'm a bit surprised another issue seems to have appeared that's to do with my screen.
A friend of mine has a galaxy nexus, yes it's actually not that bad to be honest. But battery life is very bad.
I'd honestly wait or pick one of those (if you really want a phone now)
One X (so basically keep on trying and hope for the best) / Galaxy S 3/ Nokia lumia 920 (if you're willing to try a new os, probably nokia is best to choose from on windows) / wait for something better to come out (?)

Actually I was thinking of selling my one x and getting the nexus.
The battery is bad enough the hox, how much worse can it be on
the nexus? (and I read mostly on Black Screens)
oh, You forgot about Motorola, and it's mighty Razr HD Maxx!
BTW, I've just asked a local phone shop to fix my hox,
they want 80-90$ for this! This sucks.

Hardware or software screen problem???

This is my first HTC so i was very happy with my phone, speed and everything.
But after some time screen start to jump up and after few minuter it stops. That was for 3 or 4 times, and i thought thas is software problem, but i update phone on JB about month ago and it hapened again few times, but 2 days ago screen start to jumping and i cant to use my phone.
I recorded video and post it on youtube so if anyone know what is problem to tell me. I hope it is not big because i dont have warranty.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stWumBBxre0&feature=youtu.be
Definitely hardware.
I had the same problem with mi hox, in this moment the phone is on rma
i hope this problem will be solved soon
So is this something serious, or expensive to repair ?
From what i have heard in the past, replacing the touch display and digitizer costed around 180 euro's. But i don't know if its the screen/digitizer or only the mainboard that needs to be replaced.
had the same problem, my carrier sent it to guarantee repairs, got it back after 2 weeks, now i'm facing a problem where the volume rocker does not work when pushing volume up, it just randomly pushes the volume up itself for no apparent reason and i have to fiddle with volume down for a while to make it stop. i'm thinking of abandoning htc forever, this is my 3rd htc and every other has had major issues with hardware and software, i just can't trust them anymore.
Wow....
I happen to own a Samsung Galaxy S III, and coming from a family of HTC and iPhone users, I am really impressed with my device. My aunt has the One X as well, and her's did the same thing...she went to AT&T and they gave her a new one, No questions asked, seeing as it wasn't the first time they have seen something like it. They say there is an issue with the processor and something in the RAM...

Just so you know, HTC is a garbage company that creates good looking phones but which appear durable only on the outside.
I had an One S and after 2 months of usage The touchscreen "gave birth" of a dead spot right in the middle. It was a 1cm thick vertical line. So the phone became useless.I spend a ton of money on an "original" display+glass+digitizer (an assembly) cause I didn't choose a warranty when I bought the device, cause it was cheaper that way. after 1 month and a half month, a dead spot appeared on the new screen. This time it was a horizontal line that gave me a hard time again. I donnated the phone to some guy. I decided to buy a new HTC, but this time a ONE X. After 4 months another dead spot appeared on the touchscreen and again that area was unresponsive. I decided not to send it into warranty cause it was already enough and it's not worth it, so I sold it at a considerably lower price because of that problem. The Ironic thing is that I always tooks so much care of both devices and it still broke. If you keep using HTC, you'll only shorten your life.
I'm now a bit short on money and I'm using a pathetic Galaxy Ace 2. If you wanted right now to exchange a brand new ONE X with my Ace 2, I wouldn't make the exchange and I'd stick with the phone I have right now. Or I'd make the exchange only to sell the HTC, cause it's more expensive than the Ace 2 and after that I'd buy a Nexus 4 or a Galaxy S3, with the money I'd get from the HTC. That's how bad I hate HTC. What seems to be awesome, it's actually something that breaks with the slightest touch. Samsung, which everytime comes with the same hideous design every year, is 10 times more durable than an HTC, and also is a lot easier to root and downgrade if something goes wrong during some process.
So, my personal opinion, try to choose anything else but HTC. Otherwise you're gonna experience all sorts of problems with it even if you decide to replace the screen. When you fix a problem, another one will come out and make you be stressed. IT'S NOT WORTH IT, believe me.
Every one has there personal views of the devices they use.. I've had my One X from since it came out and it has never given me trouble.. I've never came across with the issues you are claiming.. neither my friends that use them. I have to upgrade to a new phone eventually but not because of the phone dying, but because it's just natural to upgrade to a newer better phone. I've used sammies before but have never ever come close to my comparison with the One X. I love HTC products and that remains no matter what..to the OP, your problem seems can be solved with a new screen..
How is that practical advice...uncalled for. Try a reverting phone to stock, if that doesn't help then it is a hardware fault and start looking into repair.

[Q] "Retroactive Bricking" or "spontaneous" hardware fault? [Xpost One X/X+ Help]
*PSA: This will be crossposted in xda GenerAL Q&A and HTC One X+ forums, I hope cross posting is allowed, haven't seen it mentioned in rules.*
Hi all,
Quick disclaimer: I've been lurking parts of xda now and again for a couple years now, have flashed a couple of phones and tablets now and again for mainly practical reasons, recently getting more interested in it as a ""fun" interest or "hobby".
SO: I am very aware that this is my first post, the rules, search function, etc. ..
BUT: After extensively searching both google and specifically xda to help me resolve this issue *myself*, I decided to create an account and post. I'm sorry if this Q should have been put in the newbie thread, my assessment was that it probably has no place there.
ALSO PLZ NOTE: What was meant to be a succinct summary and question somehow turned into a condensed but complete rundown of events, so here is a...
TL;DR:
- Replaced HTC One X+ display/digitizer unit myself, ran fine for 5 weeks.
- Then: flashed twrp 2.7x or 2.8, not sure anymore, before installing Android HD Revolution 33.1 by mike1986, and following the official instructions, which ran great for about week until my phone spontaneously BRICKED THE F*CK OUT COMPLETELY.
(yes, true brick, paperweight, robot-corpse, whatever)
=> Question: IS "RETROACTIVE/RETROGRADE BRICKING POSSIBLE/A "THING"??
If so, what could I have done wrong? (POSSIBLY something to do with a bootimage of firmware that I was sure I had the up to date version of... dunno though).
=========================================================================
About 6 weeks ago:
- Cracked the display of my HTC One X+ badly by dropping it onto concrete-type floor at a rave/party
=> Decided to try and replace it myself, researched for a good while (talking several days here, 90s/00s kids),
=> Decided to replace the display/digitizer unit myself to save money and gain knowledge.
Repair process was challenging and nearly as nerve wracking as playing the WSOP (not kidding, have played it three times), had an issue immediately after putting it back together where it suddenly wouldn't charge AT ALL anymore (NO LED), and overheated, and had unusually fast battery drain of its remaining charge (which never ran out completely before resolving that issue, since I kept turning it off whenever possible).
=> Took it apart and put it together again XX times until realizing the power switch flex cable kept slipping out of its two (jawbone?) connectors during putting it back together (I was doing something wrong with the flex positioning).
=> This resolved the issue.
=> Felt like a hero and that I win at life (since this phone has a rep as being hard to meddle with, and this was my first time even opening, let alone taking apart a smartphone).
=> Continued joyful phone shenanigans for over one month.
=> THEN: Decided to root it, mainly because there was a particular app I wanted that required root ("Quick reply for Whatsapp/Pushbullet", for the curious).
My previous, very limited rooting/flashing experiences =
- Google Nexus One (CWM/Cyanogen) a few times, years ago
- Galaxy Tab 10.1 (CWM/Cyanogen 10.1 ages ago, TWRP/Omnirom Kitkat 4.4.4 recently) a couple times.
So, did my research (or so I thought..?) for this particular custom ROM, decided to go for Android Revolution HD for HTC One X/+ 33.1 by mike 1986 (because it looked fckin awesome, and it was, while it ran) and loved the sh*t out of my "new" phone for about a week. Especially the vastly improved battery life seemed almost surreal, a big deal for a fixed-battery phone.
Then, ONE FATFUL EVENING in a bar, I remember looking at my phone and seeing 35% left, (days before it would've been an amazing 70-80% on an avg. day), which may not be relevant as it was my birthday, so had been using it a lot that day => may be a moot point
- Next time I looked at the phone ( < 1 hour without active use for sure) it was dead.
"Hmmmm," thought slightly drunk me. Whatever, charge it later, weird sh*t happens.
- Got home later, charged it over night after booting it with usb cord attached (mains).
Seemed normal, I even set an alarm.
=> Alarm never rang because it was in a powered-off state again come morning, despite all-night charging.
=> It booted to HTC logo. Seconds later, it turned off again. Held down power again, all I saw was the soft touch buttons flashing red a few times. After this it unexpectedly became (or was secretly crowned):
!! COMPLETE AND UTTER FCKNG KING BRICK OF BRICK COUNTRY AND ATTACHED TERRITORIES !!
No power on with or without volume up/down held for whatever amount of time;
No charging, no heating up when "charging";
No LED in any colour or flashing frequency, ever;
No response after hours and days of charging on different USB cables on PC/wall socket;
PCs and laptops don't register a sign of anything when it penetrates their port parts, etc etc...
...
.Even that semi-mystical bright-light-exposure-while-charging "light sensor manipulation" thing (which apparently worked for a lo of people with similar issues) did nothing for the cause.
Promotion: *Paperweight status successfully acquired.* Yay.
=====================================================
Now, obviously my first thought was that the power flex that gave me trouble during display replacement probably slipped again., somehow (I had taped it down solidly I thought).
=> SO I opened it once again, flex position seemed ok, but I wasn't sure of its functionality as it did look kind of battered from the somewhat unprofessional repair I had conducted on it (which I openly admit to, though I really did try my absolute best).
- Spontaneously took mainboard/battery combo to a local independent phone/accessory shop after being told they'd take a look for free
(I was in there was in there buying a microsim adapter so I could use my ancient Nexus One, since my GF has my old S2 now, which she kindly offered back, but its hers now, so nah. Great phone though.)
=>Shop's advice echoed my thoughts: Flex cable may be screwed, I may have damaged it by bending in the wrong direction/too often, and that damage somehow didn't manifest until much later. I didn't mention the recent rooting + flashing as I deemed it irrelevant at the time.
Their secondary thoughts: Battery or mini-usb port fukt, (which would require soldering, which they don't even offer).
=> SO, feeling confirmed in my layman's assessment, I cheaply got a pristine new replacement flex on ebay, double checked all videos/tutorials, implemented the damn thing with considerably more skill/experience and even higher anticipation. What happened next was shocking:
Absolutely nothing, obv.
=> Did an additional epic f*ckton of internet/forum research, found similar problems and some resolutions, but no real answers, probably because my main problem translates to a kind of hybrid question.
So here I am now am with my core question:
Is it possible to FULLY brick an HTC/any smartphone but not become aware of this until one week later, when the device dies OVER ONE WEEK of reliable and amazing performance?
(and if yes, what aspect/stage of the flashing process is this likely related to?)
If the answer is NO, it must be a hardware fault with probability rank (I think)
:
1.) Battery dead for whatever reason
2.) Mini USB OR mainboard/integral component (equal rank as not sure), possibly caused by incompetent repair, but why or how would this express itself over a month later??
3.) Other, which I'm not aware of.
While researching new ROMS for the N1, I realized that I may have messed up on the "bootimg part" of the flashing process of the Revolution ROM, a part I found v. confusing in the instructions, even after rereading them many, many times. It was about the most recent firmware, which I was pretty sure I had anyway, since it was unrooted before and I do remember installing some firmware updates over the air.
I still did my best to follow the instructions though.
=> Maybe this has something to do with it, i.e. the hardware can't accept a charge because the software allowed it to become too uncharged (a fairly paradox concept to me, but apparently it can happen. Guess it's like a BIOS-type thing).
Thank you for anyone who read this far!
As it stands, I refuse to give up hope so soon after experiencing that rush of having fixed it myself.
Any specific or general help, tips, hints, pointers, replacement phones (One M8 or S5 plz., Iphones will go straight on ebay) would and will be greatly appreciated!!
The obvious choice is to get a new battery and see what happens, but I'm not sure if I wanna sink any more money into this phone, only to later find out the mainboard is at fault (not worth the money replacing), AKA "get a new phone without a contract", which would more than suck for me financially atm (Im ignoring my N1 here, which I love, but don't wanna be stuck with, esp. as it has the standard-issue broken power button (which I actually had repaired once under warranty, back in the ol' days of yore some prefer to refer to as 2009.
So guys: What's my move, if there is one, besides going to a local/online service centre (I live in Germany btw.) and probably paying unproportionate cash money to even have it looked at?
Cheers, thanks, merci, danke
PS: Just saw the polling function, so I attached one just for the hell of it, to see what happens (never used one before).
If you feel both qualified AND so inclined as to pass judgement on this here serious business, please indicate what you think may be the cause of my issue.
Poll is in "General QA" Forum original post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/retroactive-bricking-spontaneous-t2948954
*BUMP 1*
Come on guys, I know it's a wall of text, but can't someone at least answer the TL;DR?
=> Is is possible to flash a custom rom which then (possibly because of improper installation) causes the phone to brick about a week later?
Simple question surely!
