someone already beat you to it buddy
We have more than one thread for a lot here. It doesn't really matter any more. I like this one so I will say something. Nobody can use anything until s-off so don't get too excited.
Oh sorry,i forgot totally the S-Off Problem >..<
And i didnt found the other Thread Who tells that the Source is out.
But isnt it Possible to Flash a Kernel trough Fastbootmode?
I did that Yesterday because i had a Issue where my Cpu wont go over 1000Mhz xD

Why not? We can continue flashing kernel in boot.img via fastboot in the interim.
Flashed just fine last night..... You don't need s-off to change a kernel

Say I flashed a kernel without s-off and i'm on 1.28. The 1.29 upgrade gets available for my phone, can i upgrade my phone to 1.29 normally via OTA or do i have to go back to stock etc?

OTAs contain only files needed to upgrade one stock ROM to another stock ROM, so you will definitely need to re-flash the stock rom. Or, wait for your custom ROM to be re-based to 1.29.

Hey sorry if this was addressed already in another thread. Just picked up a One X yesterday. I've since unlocked bootloader and rooted phone. Just playing with stock rom for now before I jump into custom rom.
My question is, I keep getting notifications for system update available. Should I avoid these updates ? don't want to loose root and unlocked bootloader
Thanks!
Just do the update and then re-root - bootloader isn't touched once unlocked unless you manually lock it yourself

If you have already flashed a custom recovery, you will need to flash back the stock recovery to apply the update.

Yeah when I unlocked bootloader, I immediatley flashed cwm. Hmmm seems like alot of flashing back and forth for these updates.
Should have done all the updates first I guess
Maybe I'll just flash an already tweaked rom
When you update it updates your hboot as well as your rom. Its worth pointing out that if an s-off exploit comes out for an earlier version of the hboot you might not be able to downgrade. If you're not having specific problems such as screen flicker I would not update.

If you do upgrade then given the number of problems people have it's also a good idea to make sure a RUU is available that matches the version you intend to upgrade to. That way if everything goes south you can flash the RUU and get it back up and running.
AS the title states I am a noob with the One X and want to install a JB rom but there seems so much to do
Any step by step guides from start to finish? Or even a quick 1,2,3,4 of what I need to do..
HBOOT first??
Then Unlock and root and recovery then rom??
Thanks!!!!
type
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
adn paste here the result
will do m8 when I get chance.
Got to reinstall SDK etc..
Will bump it up, was kinda hoping there was a video floating about or something..

there's no kenel for now because HTC hasn't release the kernel source yet, so stick with the stock one which is the best imo

you need to revert back to stock there are no kernels that will work with jb yet mate as the source code hasn't been released. hopefully you have backed up? if so go to the cwm folder on your phone, get the boot.img, flash it through fastboot and restore your system

Thanks mate yep in theory but not sure how u revert back to ics from jb
You can flash an ics rom on the higher hboots, no problem (at least not with sense roms) and use the custom kernels too. If you want a fully stock ics rom you can check your cid and download a matching ics nandroid backup from the nandroid collection in the general forum (the thread from matt95)
Just restore it and you will have a custom "stock" rom on your higher Hboot.....
Hello there,
I'm a flash junkie and recently updated my phone to CM11, coming from CM10.
In this process my phone went from S-Off to S-on. Is this always the case? And how can I fix it? Because I don't want to fastboot every time I flash a nightly. Thanks in advance!

It is imposible flashing ROM to make the device from S-OFF to S-ON. The rom don't have to do nothing with the HBOOT and can't change the security flag on ONE X international.

Let's hope he can tell us how to get S-OFF in the first place
If he can, I will personally flash as many roms as needed to investigate this unexpected S-ON behaviour.

I don't think it was s-off in the first place. In my experiences flashing roms and even RUU's has never lead to changing s-on/off status !

Sarcasm-ON, hilarious! LOL. How is it possible that on cm10 i could flash roms via cmupdater without flashing the boot.img? Now on cm11 my phone will not start up without the boot.img....
And did someone follow RumRummer tutorial for S-Off? Successfully?
Thanks in advance!
Because cm 11 is kitkat and cm 10 is not. Not all updates require a new boot.img.
If you go to a "new" rom you need to flash the boot.img. if a rom gets an update and it's purely a small software update it may not require a boot.img update.
Cm11 is completely different from cm10.
And rumrunner does not work.

i stumble upon a thread that S-off is really needed to have proper and compatible FW and ROM. Question is, isnt it the FW is packed with the ROM? My M8 is rooted, bootloader open but still S-Off (IC ROM and Elemental KERNEL). Please enlighten me.
PS: i read about this whole thing coz the boot time of my phone is just too long, i asked in one of the thread here; someone said that its because of this FW and ROM thingy that might be incompatible...
Sorry if i asked too much. Thanks anyway...

No. Firmware is not packed with custom ROMs. When talking about updating the firmware, we are referring to the hboot, radio, and other modules (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.). Flashing a ROM doesn't touch those firmware partitions. And in fact the radio and hboot partitions can not be modified with S-on. Which is why s-off is required to update the firmware manually.
Yes, long boot time is a known symptom of flashing a 2.x based custom ROM, while having outdated 1.x based firmware on the phone. So you need to s-off and update the firmware manually.
Alternately, you can return to stock ROM and recovery, and install your latest official OTA, which will update the firmware.

Your firmware is separate from the ROM you run, it runs between the ROM and the hardware if you like. Its the base software that is updated by RUU or an OTA, but a ROM won't update it. Hence why devs recommend to update firmware to the latest as their ROM is based on the latest sources, but it doesnt update it.

You probably won't find an RUU for your version, as I believe only the US versions have RUU. Unfortunate, as RUU would be another way update you to the 2.x firmware, and would be a really easy way to do so.
You just need stock ROM and recovery, for purpose of accepting OTAs. You should be able to get both of those here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
You shouldn't have to do anything with bootloader. Since you are still S-on, there is no way you would have been able to modify bootloader, and therefore it is still stock.
Firewater website works fine for me. In fact, it loads almost instantly. Do you have any local firewalls or anything else that might be blocking the website? Although also be aware that firewater won't work on most recent M8's (and you may need to use sunshine if you want s-off). Although it doesn't hurt to try firewater.
???? does this mean i cant no longer use firewater on my m8?

Most likely if yu get that message, than NO firewater won't work.
Although some custom ROMs (not sure about InserCoin) and kernels might interfere with firewater.
What hboot and radio baseband?
ohhh no, im with elementalX Kernel. Will try my luck with Stock kernel. Ill be back here later, rebooting my phone takes ages
Still no luck. hahahahahahaha!!! Damn... Tried the Sunshine but will also not work without stock ROM and Kernel. hahahahaahha...

I've read that Maximum ROM works with Sunshine.
EDIT: Meant "Maximus". Keep typing that name wrong. My brain keeps wanting to autocorrect!
Although you might need to find an older build of Maximus. I see that as of last night, it was just updated to Android 4.4.4! So bets are off about Sunshine working with Maximus, until its reported to work with the new build.

3.16 may or may not work with firewater. If you have tried with stock ROM and kernel, and get the "whelp" message, than you are out of luck.
Sunshine should work, again I'd try with stock ROM and kernel.
