Jump ship when I have the first phone with 4g? although my phone has never seen 4g and probably never will. Too bad it can not run on LTE. Verizon has their networks up before their phones are release, Sprint went kind of backwards on this one for some.
I have no problems with Sprint service, and Im on a great affordable plan. Im sure sprint will get some new flagship phones over the summer.
No. I currently have the best plans on the market, so I don't see the logic in spending more for less with another provider. Besides, I have a feeling Sprint is gonna surprise us in a good way, come June.
PS. My name is HondaCop and I approve this message.

Nope no reason to replace my EVO....
I dumped my iPhone 4 for the EVO!!! Sprints network is better than AT&T for my area anyway. I just can't wait for them to roll out 4G service in AZ. I do wish the EVO had better battery life though......
Plus if you do a service plan comparison Sprint has the better plans.......
I won't be leaving sprint anytime soon, and if i do it will be because of coverage more than a particular phone.
If in a year or two Sprint doesn't switch to LTE or at least get some better spectrum for wimax, I'll probably leave.
Verizon and I believe ATT will be using some of the 700Mhz spectrum for LTE and that is the only game changer for me...but their plans are expensive and I don't think their customer service is as good as Sprint.
I saw a recent review in a magazine at the doctors office that pointed out that AT&T had the worst reviews for customer service and cell service.
On the other hand it Sprint has been recognized for their strides in providing better service and better signal.
I had Verizon for a short period of time this year. I don't expect that much has changed with their customer service or their rate plans. They are very ineffective at customer service and seem to just not care about it. With out making this post a novel, Let's just say they couldn't even show me my bill in a store.
I have had Sprint's flagship since June when it was released ... with their rate plans for the Evo and other 4G phones there is no way that I would consider leaving then as a customer.

You should try the myns Rom and some kernels to change that battery life.. mine is like excellent.. way better than ever and I'm not exaggeration.. and I'm a heavy user.
Leaving a network just for a phone is silly, since every network will get a better phone than the one you have sooner or later. Leaving because of costs/coverage? That at least makes sense.

Why would I jump ship, I'm not easily swayed by everything that glitters. Plus I get good service and plan.
To sum it up, HELL TO THE NO.....

Label it whatever you want, silly, traitor, etc. but that new monster Motorola Atrix phone shown at CES this year seriously has my nipples fully erect. that thing is just a beast. i really hate all the other cell providers(various fees, caps, coverage, etc) but damn, thats an awesome phone!
I'm leaving Sprint and the EVO... but only because I'm moving someplace with no Sprint... blah
Im gonna sit out this contract not because of money, but because the next big thing is dual cores. Till I see an awesome dual core im not jumping anywhere.

Nope! I left Verizon for a reason. Their prices are ridiculously high for less! My Evo will have a very good shelf life, sprint should be rolling something out of their sleeve soon anyways.

Best reply of the post.
No... I have the best priced plan with one of the top available phones and get full 4g at work constantly for tethering when needed sparingly on my laptop. Bought my EVO of craigslist, by contract expires after June 27th and still will stick with Sprint after that.
I have a contract from when I bought my hero, paid out of pocket for my evo and had it replace my hero, I will gladly pay out of pocket again for the evo 2, I like sprint, I like my 4.3 inch screen, if I can keep those 2 with an upgrade I will, but dangle whatever phone you want to in front of me and unless it's sprint with 4.3 or bigger I won't care the least
no phone can tempt me for the 100 a month we are saving (vs verizon)
I love this phone i used to have an lg thrill from att but i hate att and lg.its been a week since i got the white ipic 4g i love it but sprint coverage sucks in my area should i change to verizon since they r offering 4 gb

Personally coverage is key. If your planning to get verizon, I would wait atleast another week to find out what new phones will be launching (MWC in spain)... Otherwise Nexus on verizon with sucky camera is the best choice at the moment...
Metalhead is regretting, a little, going to att and the 4s. He too had poor sprint coverage in his area. I don't know what to suggest. I can understand your frustration. IMO, the other companies are horrible. I've never been on any other carrier but sprint, so that's just my opinion, not based on any facts or personal experience. I don't gain or lose anything if you stay or go. I just hate to see it when sometimes people learn an expensive lesson that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. Then again, maybe a different carrier could benefit you. Good luck in your quest. Give sprint a call and tell them your situation. See if there's anything they can do to convince you to stay or fix your problem, if that's even possible.
I'm in the sane situation as u bro. Sprint sucks but luckily I have wifi at home. I'm just trying to wait as long as I can. I could go to Verizon and have lte in my area.

I started a thread few days ago about leaving sprint for the same reason and I did. Went to t-mobile and tried it for 15 days. My first option was att thought based on the minutes and data I use. Chose t-mob because my step-daughter's b-friend works there. Long story short I am back to sprint. I did not like the service, nor the phone (GS2). Sprint GS2 is the best. I've been with sprint for almost 10 years now. I have WIfi at home and work and I am holding but if you are new and want to switch already I don't blame you. I checked Verizon and it looked so expensive I couldn't do it but if it works out for you go ahead. Sprint data sucks. I like their phones a lot though. Who knows maybe in the future I get mad again and change again but for now I am put. Best luck in your decision.
PS: just curious. Why you did not like att?

I made the mistake of going to AT&T for about 6 months one time. Worst decision I ever made. I kept getting bills that were too damn big, with AT&T unable to explain to me why this was. I ended up breaking contract and paying about $700 more than I thought I should have owed. I considered it a good deal, just to get away from those fine fellows. (Not the words I wanted to use, but this is a family forum )
I've dealt with ATT in the past, I'll never do business with them again.
Left Sprint a couple of days ago and switched to Verizon and got the Galaxy Nexus. I was a Sprint customer for 15 years...
I am going to write a review of the 2 phones and also compare the service and what you get for your money when I have some more time.
Just a little fact, I have yet to turn on LTE with Verizon except to check it's download and upload speeds. I leave 3G on and have been able to do everything I need to do without a problem. Remember those days with Sprint!
Anyway, you have 14 days where ever you go and can always come back.....
If you have any questions just let me know.
I'm honestly willing to give Sprint another 2 years. They are working hard on coverage and upgrades. They are trying their best.
Flash to another carrier!!!

I got my Sprint GNex in the beginning of May and been having some problems with Sprint 3g (Metro Detroit). I am not sure if it just a Sprint issue or if it has to do with my phone. The problems I am experience are;
1) Certain MMS pictures just show 'download' button and wont download when pressed. I have tried toggling between wifi/3G.
2) Google music won't buffer a song when I have a full 3g signal.
3) Signal seems to get stuck on '1x' when it should have a 3g signal.
I unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and installed CMM 9. I believe I updated the radios to FD02 from FD12 but am kind of a noob when it comes to radios. I have tried updating profile and PRL but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.....
I just got my GNEX yesterday. Immediately after activating, I noticed the 3G data speeds seemed a bit slower than my EVO but I didn't think much of it. Then after a day of use I noticed slower data speeds overall. Today I was having trouble where I couldn't access a webpage at all in a known area with weak reception. The funny thing is I tried to access the same page from my wife's iPhone (also on Sprint) and while slow, it was still able to load the page.
From what I read the big issue with the GNEX on Sprint was that it wasn't connecting to 3G data services at all, and the FD02 software update was supposed to fix that. I'm running FD02 and I can access the 3G data network, however the transfer speeds are very slow compared to my old EVO and my wife's iPhone.
I really do enjoy this phone and I hope this is something that can be fixed via a SW update. What's the best way to handle this problem? I was thinking about going to a Sprint store to compare it with a demo model of the same phone just to see if perhaps I have a bad piece of hardware.
Haven't had this issue. However to radios in Samsung devices are notorious for having weaker signal reception which is why comparing to the Evo and iPhone it is much less. It could potentially be a bad radio in the phone you can always take it into a sprint store and have then test it.

I would get a unlocked nexus depending on your minute for one like you could be paying 65$ at month for unlimited everything but calls(500 minutes) and 5GB of 4G if you get a phone from then it could cost 85$ at month

Returned evo lte due to data dropouts and crap reception for the photon with hopes of getting the gs3. Will the gs3 have similar data issues due to the new 4g radios in these new sprint phones? So far the photon reception is insane.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I think most people would agree that the Photon is well known among Sprint phones to be the champion when it comes to reception. If you're hoping for reception like it had in the GS3, I wouldn't hold your breath. I had the EVO LTE before the GS3 & the reception was about the same between the two. Samsung did do us a service in improving the radio slightly in the GS3 over the GS2 though. I get approximately 2-3 dBm better reception with my GS3 over my GS2 in the same spots. YMMV.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
As far as cdma Motorola has a patent that allows them superior radio quality. Does anyone know one that patent will expire? Lol
Should I stick it out with the photon and skip on the gs3?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Dude, the SGS3 is the pinnacle of smartphone hardware you can own in the WORLD, regardless of network, right now. It is an amazing piece of technology. Like I said, if you expect to see reception like you do with the Photon, that's probably going to be a pipe dream. But I think you'd be crazy not to at least try it out. Am I biased? Yeah, mostly!

Great time for a return. Verizon SGSIII should be out shortly, return that Photon, pick up that SGSIII should receive equal to +/- reception and you'll be in excellent condition. I couldn't do the EVO LTE, looking forward to Verizon, again :good:.

Just got off the phone with best buy and according to them, I should get the gs3 right away since I preordered which should be in my 30 day return policy with best buy. Ill give it a shot and if I see the same poor reception as the evo lte, Ill go back to the photon. As far as going back to verizon, not happening, I just did an assumption of liability with some one on xda an gave up my unlimited. Couldn't justify spending 150 a month for three lines with only one smartphone, 700 minutes, and only 200 text per line. Now I'm spending about 165 for all three lines two of which are iphones for my wife an mother in law. On the 1500 data unlimited. Sprint in my area is fine for service and will only improve as they make network upgrades plus I should be grandfathered in my current plan if they ever decide to change policy. Again this is all speculation, not fact. Here's to hoping the gs3 doesn't drop data the way the beautifully designed evo lte did.

I agree, Sprint ftw! Also, the EVO LTE is beautiful, but once you have the GS3 in hand I doubt you'll be disappointed from a design perspective. It's gorgeous & also more comfortable to hold IMHO. Hopefully the signal strength will be better for you, too! Good luck in your endeavor.

I think both phones are excellent phones and the which one is better, is a silly argument. Ultimately both phones will tackle just about any task you throw at it and any performance differences will be minimal.

Dav, you get what you pay for... I'm with Sprint and I put a pre-orders for 2 S3 with Verizon. I cant even load Google maps while on the train here in LI NY. IMO after Sprint went with the iPhone my speed went from awesome to pure garbage, yes, you get unlimited but what good does it make if you can't even stream a song without skip.
If you want to check how Sprint is doing where you live try check here network.sprint.com
on LI too! Ditched sprint all together, cant justify spending $225 for service thats barely there. Anything above $150 is pushing it with theses greedy cell companies. Att wanted $200 for something similar to sprint and verizon is about $190. Hey guys, mainly asking for your opinions so just let them fly.
I currently have a Thunderbolt and my contract is up at the end of November now I am trying to decide what to do next. I was fully anticipating going with the nexus 4 (I was prepared to never buy a non nexus device as long as Google keeps making them). Now that the nexus 4 will not be on Verizon and switching to at&t isn't an option since I get 25% off my bill through work, what would you guys do if you were in my situation? The Gnex is going to be cheap as hell when am eligible for an upgrade and am still considering it, should I be? Do you think Gnex development will slow down dramatically any time soon? I'd also hate to buy a phone with outdated hardware...do you guys run into hardware limitations withe the Gnex?
The only other phone that intrigues me is the galaxy s3. Mainly because it is so popular that I see there being a huge development opportunity there? I looked through the thread for the GS3 and it looks like there plenty of aosp roms and it looks to me like there will be quick updates for it as well. The biggest things I hate about the GS3 are the hardware buttons, I love the customisable soft keys in aosp and think that hard keys are so pointless anymore.
I'm pretty much against moto but if you really think I should look at something they have to offer, let me know.
Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance.

My advice? Wait and watch. See how the N4 actually pans out as a device itself. It could be a hardware flop for all we know at this point. There were certainly fun hardware issues with the Gnex.
Then wait a bit longer for the HTC DNA. It might turn out to be a barnburner, or something to burn the barn with.
Then make a decision.
I'm not sure if the Moto RAZR i or HD is a good option or not for you.
Its up on you dude. go out & explore something new and one more thing that the GS3 is a pretty good option.

I would wait if I where u. If u really need a new phone I would say the galaxy as 3 is a good choice. I have the gnex with Verizon and I love it. I dont have no issues at all my signal is always good i dont drop any calls or never go into 3g lol. (Must be my area i live in) Only problem I see u having is the storage capacity. The gnex on Verizon is now offered with only 16GB. No more 32GB. But as stated before, wait it out a few more months and see what's around the corner. If anything get a used nexus from craigslist for like 250 bucks to hold u over. That way up don't waist your upgrade on a phone u might regret

The answer for most people? Coverage.
Coverage, Coverage, Coverage.
If you have a Thunderbolt, that means you still have unlimited data right? So if you're planning on buying a Nexus anyway, you might as well just find an unlocked one (i've seen used ones for ~$150-250) so that you won't have to upgrade. If I remember correctly (and I might be wrong), but Verizon only takes away the unlimited data when you try to upgrade.
No offense, but then he'd be stuck with T-Mobile's network and current lack of LTE. I root for T-Mobile; however, I was miserable when I was using them in suburban Denver, due to relatively inconsistent/slow data.

You can use AT&T's towers via Straight Talk if T-Mobile isn't great for your area. AT&T's HSPA+ network is pretty expansive.
Also, he wouldn't be "stuck" with anything - he could take the SIM card out and flush it down the toilet if the service bothers him. That's the beauty of not having a contract
I had the gnex on Verizon and loved it, except for one crucial issue-battery life. Sure, this was remedied somewhat by getting spare batteries, but this got to be a pain in the ass.
I currently have the Verizon SIII and love it (I find the dev community to be more than adequate). Yet I agree that it is worth waiting for the inevitable next greatest thing. The DNA does look to be badass

Yeah the main reason why I stay with Verizon is coverage and my discount. At&t is the only other viable option, all the others are spotty at best around where I live.
Yeah I never thought of trying to get a gnex off contract. That would probly be the best option seeing that I'm getting married in June and will most likely have to revamp my plan for me and the wife anyway.
My friend just got the s3, he doesn't root or anything like I do but I can still bug him about the battery life at least.

I've only ever dealt with Verizon so can you include a few more details? Isn't straight talk sprint, but you're saying at&t sim?

The only way I'll be buying a Nexus 4 is if it's gifted to me.
I honestly want to wait it out for MWC and HTC's 2013 lineup.

I'm not real big on the next best thing, the S3 would be in that category for me. Do you stick with touchwiz ROMs or aosp (or aokp)?
I have a sour taste in my mouth for HTC and I'm sick of waiting. I thought I waited for the next best thing with the Tbolt when I was coming from the OG droid. Samsung at least gets it right with their flagship devices. They don't come out with almost an identical phone but with more bugs worked out 3 months later.
I'll wait till Christmas and see what all comes but that's as long as I'll wait.

How do you buy something gifted to you?

Straight talk offers an AT&T SIM that gives you unlimited* everything for $45/mo. I think it's actually their most popular plan.
*2-5gb of data before they start to nag, depending on how the stars align for you. Since, you know, unlimited is never actually unlimited in the US anymore...
If you are only with verizon because of the discount, try calling up another phone company and see if they can match the offer or sweeten the pot for you. My brother gets a corporate discount with Bell (here in Canada) and so he called up Rogers (who he's with), and told them that he can get such and such plan for such and such price and asked if he can match it otherwise he'd switch. I forget the specifics of what he got but he was able to get a discount because of it.
Otherwise, just wait like many others said. Perhaps you can get a sweeter phone than the nexus.

don't be annoying like that
To OP: I'm in a similar situation actually, except that I use a GNex right now instead of a TurdBolt. Nobody knows if a Nexus 4 will come to VZN, but I'd probably just buy a GNex until something better rolls around later. And if you do have unlimited data, DO NOT UPGRADE! I cannot fathom losing my unlimited data at this point of my spoiled-data-consumption life. And the development for the VZN GNex is pretty healthy actually. Nothing to complain about, especially when you know you have a reliable connection at the end of the day.
I'm in agreement there, I dumped my tbolt for a gnex and it was a huge step up. You can grab one for fairly cheap off contract now too. I have little to complain about besides battery being a moderate problem. It still beats the tbolt for battery life by quite a bit though, and has given me better data reception. My main urge to upgrade is called 'upgraditis'. For now I'll be trying to treat the symptoms.
